A cursed mermaid who wonders if she’ll ever find the one. A sheriff who thinks he’s past his prime. Snow is falling, holiday magic is all around, and two people are about to find that it’s never too late for second chances.
Sheriff Aaron Holmes is a Silver Fox -- only he doesn’t know it. He thinks he’s past his prime and has settled on the idea that in a town full of magic, he’ll never have his happily ever after.
Charlotta Lawsen spent one thousand years sleeping -- until she woke up, and that very day, met and fell promptly head-over-heels for the new deputy in town.
Twenty-five years later, she’s only more in love with Aaron, but she knows with her reputation, she doesn’t have a snowball’s chance with the good-to-his-core sheriff.
It’s the season of magical beginnings, though, and Aaron and Charlotta are about to experience the perfect holiday recipe: one part meddling family, two parts Fate, a dash of romance, and the secret ingredient of a hidden treasure … mix it all up, and what do you get? A Sapphire Lake tale (or is it tail?) that’ll have you singing "Silver Bells” and craving tater tots (trust me, it’s a thing) …
Sassy mermaids + sexy sheriffs = a Christmas story you don’t want to miss.
I'm the proud momma to a golden retriever named Charlie, two tortoises named Jake and John, a frog named Toad, and a gopher snake. The latter is my girl, Holly Jr. There's also the fact that I'm a thunderstorm-loving, front porch-sitting, hot cocoa-drinking, beauty product-hoarding, self-proclaimed environmentalist who just happens to write erotic romance.
This is a great story! I was swept into the story from the first page. I loved Charlotta (Lotta) and Aaron.
Lotta has loved Aaron for years. But as a cursed mermaid, she only has three days on land. He also wasn’t available for a long time. She searches for her mate and the one who can break her curse. Aaron has wanted her for years and this time he is going to do something about it. Will they discover that they are mates?

I haven't read any of the other Sapphire Lake Mountain Mermaid books but didn't have any issues. The author said it best "Sassy Mermaids and Sexy Sheriffs". After sleeping a thousand years she met and fell in Love with Aaron he was the deputy in town. The mermaid in love with the sherriff is a fun twist on Paranormal. It was kinda dragged out on actually what was going on between these two and I was super surprised that they each longed for each other and neither knew how to overcome there own issues. Overall it was a good read with a sweet ending.
Finally seeing the light Wow! What an amazing offering into the world of the Sapphire Lake Mountain Mermaids. This author sure knows how to draw out the emotion and excitement in a story. Poor Lotta really has gotten the short end of the mermaid tail. To have a mark that can only be seen when intimate with another, to have a man who ends up marrying another, to have a sister that she has to push on for, to resign herself to eventually be alone, these would all break any other person. But the author has made Lotta out of much sterner stuff and a love that is worth the rest of eternity alone. Good thing when a blast from the past almost takes it all away. I love how the author has tied in her Shifter Kings books with this one, could Essie be in store for an entirely different fate than her sister? I can’t wait to read the author’s next book and see who will get their HEA.
We've all taken longs naps, but what do you do if it's for 1000 years? Charlotta/Lotta and Maranessie/Essie are mermaid sisters. Essie is the perpetual innocent youth. Lotta, changed at 35 is an old soul. Lotta ventures out of the water during the full moon for 3 days hoping to find a better life for Essie and her mate to break the curse. 25 years ago, Lotta met the love of her life, Aaron Holmes, the same day he met his future wife, Diane who left him 7 years later leaving their 1 year old daughter, Irena, behind.. He is now 55 and still youthful in Lotta's eyes. Lotta will find her mate when they have sex and he can see her special mark. So, she lays with a lot of men and has a reputation as the town slut. Aaron and Rickard bring the sisters trinkets and things for their treasury. Lotta & Essie stay mers, to protect each other. Essie is not cursed, but stays to keep Lotta company. Does Lotta find her mate? How long will Aaron stay on the sidelines watching the love of his life look for love in all the wrong places? Will Essie ever grow up and say, enough? Nice story. Left many unanswered questions. Nice town, excellent characters. I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In any good Christmas Story, a wish some has carried in their heart comes true. Lotta and her sister have been together since a witch cursed their people. Lotta has been looking for her one true mate to break her curse. Her mate has to really see her and that includes her mermaid mark. Unfortunately Lotta's is in a very private spot, that a mate couldn't accidently see. Aaron, the local Sheriff, has kept an eye on Lotta and her Sister for 25 years now. He has now decided to go for what he wants, whether he is Lotta's mate, she would love for Aaron to be her mate. The holidays are moved in Sapphire Lake around the full moon phases. This story fits in the series of the other Mermaids really well. I love short holiday stories like this one.

Sheriff Aaron Holmes is a kind, terrific man who thinks he is now past his prime and not entitled to find that someone special everyone looks for. With so much to offer, he’s just not convinced something wonderful is just waiting for him.
Charlotta Lawsen has likewise given up the hope that, after all these years, she can possibly be of interest to the yummy Sheriff. With neither of them looking to find romance, what can get them to open up to a chance for love and happiness?
This is a good story of two worthy people who deserve to find each other and finish what they never started years ago. Will the mermaid and her sexy sheriff give love a chance? Grab your copy and find out – is it ever too late to fall in love?!
The Sheriff and Lotta have a romance that spans decades, in Holly Gunn’s Silver Bells: Mountain Mermaids:Sapphire Lake.
It is such a pleasure to read the sultry and heart warming words written by Holly, as she adds to this series with amazing and unexpected characters.
We watch the longing of two individuals, who have responsibilities that each think will keep them away from the love they know they have so deeply for the other.
A sweetly ringing Christmas gift to her readers, with some extra magic to warm our hearts for the season, and all year long!
Aaron has loved Lotta for over twenty years he just has to convince the sassy mermaid to take a chance on him. Lotta has a mate mark in a place to lay with men in order to find out if they can see it because only the man that can see her mark is her true mate. If she can find the man for her then she can leave the lake forever. Lotta knows she love Aaron but she is considered the town slut how can the Sheriff love her and give her a chance. But it is the holiday season and miracles happen. Silver Bells is a great addition to the Emerald Lake series. I can not wait for more.

Well written story full of sass, humour and steamy romance
This was a really fun story that fit well into the Mountain Mermaids collection of stories and I loved that it hinted at the Shifter Kings series. I cannot imagine the emotional toll it took on Lotta to search for her true mate and be able to break the curse. So many men, so little success - until the chemistry sizzling between her and Sheriff Aaron Holmes finally gets acted on. Family, friends, loss and love fill these pages to the brim and I enjoyed reading about the curse from Holly Gunn's perspective. I also enjoyed the sneak peak at the next book and closed this one off giggling. Good fun!
I am so glad someone finally gave the loyal and dedicated sheriff a story with a HEA. Good storyline and likable characters. If you follow Mountain Mermaid series you should like this one. I hope this author is also writing a story for the younger sister, as there was a blurb in the last chapter about her trip. Since there are shifters involved if the story is not in Mountain Mermaids series, but a crossover I hope it will be noted somewhere in story synopsis so we can find out what happens with the sister.
There is angst and so much more going on that you get sucked into because you also have the hopelessly in love mermaid and the hot as sin sheriff. I couldn't put this down. It has a great mix of paranormal and not and it looks like the author also mixed in some of her other books in here. I will be reading those next!

This is a well written, wonderfully sweet, second chance love story. It will have you hooked right from the start not letting you go until the end. You won't be able to stop yourself from falling in love with the main characters. They are all amazingly written, loveable and very relatable. I also loved all of the paranormal elements woven in throughout. All in all, a fantastic story.
I can't wait for the next book from this amazing author.
Aaron the sheriff of Sapphire Lake has always secretly loved Lotta the mermaid. Lotta had been looking for her fated mate since she woke up 25 years ago to be greeted by the town sheriff. She secretly loved him too but the town thought she was loose due to where here mate mark was. This year though was going to be different for her, her sister and the sheriff. Fun read.

Charlotta (Lotta), a cursed mermaid, has loved Aaron since she met him when he was a new deputy. Twenty five years later he's the Sheriff and she's still a cursed mermaid. Is Aaron her mate and is he the one who will break the curse? This well written Holiday romance between a mermaid and the sheriff who are perfect for each other. I loved reading Lotta and Aaron's love story and I look forward to reading more about Sapphire Lake and the mountain mermaids.
Lotta is a cursed mermaid, she only has three days on land. Within this three days she searches for her mate and the one who can break her curse. She love him for years. Definitely not my favorite mermaid story. It was a little boring and felt drug out. I want to love them all, but this one just didn't do it for me.
I still give it 4 stars though... simply because I respect that it's well written and thought out. I especially appreciate a book that has clearly had the efforts of proof reading and editing. It's more creative than many of the others. And I have to give the book and author the well deserved credit for that.
This Sapphire Lake story is a very well-written story of characters that are well-crafted and have depth. They are both lost until this holiday season of miracles and love. I really enjoyed this story and is must read by this Author

SILVER BELLS (Mountain Mermaids, Sapphire Lake) by Holly Gunn is an awesome story to read. I loved reading this story very much and I can not wait to see what the author writes about next. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about small town, erotica and paranormal roamnces.

The story is all about romance and finding that one. For Lotta that also means breaking her curse. A curse that only allows her to leave her lake for three days a month. The rest she and her clan are stuck in the lake as mermaids and mermen. The story gets very sweet at times as two people finally understand what they really mean to each other.
Part of the Sapphire Lake series a well written short Christmas story that held my interest throughout, I want to read more in this series. Sheriff Aaron Holmes and mermaid Charlotta Lawsen's story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ok parts of this story just made giggle. Especially when it came to shiny things and references to the little mermaid. When the sheriff ends up with something shiny .. OH MY! This story made me like the sheriff that much more and not because he is shiny now
Aurora Falls is a unique small tourist town. Sapphire Lake has mermaids and mermen. Vikings cursed a thousand years ago. For the three days the moon is full, they come ashore and look for their fated mates, to break the curse. Aaron is the Sheriff of Aurora Falls. A single dad to a grown daughter, who is mated. For the last 15years friend to Lotta and her little sister. Lotta fell in love with Aaron a decade ago. To free herself and her sister she has to find her mate. Aaron has been in love with Lotta for years. Knowing she has to find her mate, he has put himself in the friend zone. Things have changed and he wants more, even if it is only for three days a month. A sweet and a little steamy, Viking paranormal romance. romance, set in a world where the paranormal are not in hiding. While part of a multi author series it reads well as a stand alone.
