This time, they’re searching for a Van Gogh painting that was hidden away for generations in a dusty attic in Arles. With suspects galore, the SALT team comes face to face with the underbelly of the art world and even brushes up against a dangerous Chinese gang in Paris. From Paris to Arles, and Amsterdam t and even in Ipoh, Malaysia, the SALT crew face frustration, dead ends, and dead bodies, and navigate new relationships that can sometimes seem just as frightening.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book and was kept wondering who why how throughout. The writing style flowed well until the SALT team entered the stage. Excluding the investigation scenes, I felt the narrative was very quick and didn’t allow for a natural (slow?) progression of the characters’ development and shaping. However turns out this is book 2 of a series and it’s possible this was already accomplished there. For the same reason I also felt that I had walked halfway into a conversation and was desperately trying to keep up. The book does provide historical (book 1) context but I still felt I was lagging. Maybe I should have read book 1 first! Otherwise I thought the adventures of the SALT team have a great scope for a series and look forward to seeing more from the author. For some reason this is the second art theft book I have read (in a row) and felt the factual information about authentication processes and art appreciation interesting But not overwhelming. Received a complimentary copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only.
I enjoyed reading this book and I'm impressed with the author's knowledge of the art world an art. His descriptions are excellent, you can taste the food and wine as he describes it. I love how our protagonist travel around the world saving art pieces. Fantastic idea and I hope there really is such a secret Force. I enjoyed this book much more than his first one, he's really grown into his characters and his plots. The character development was wonderful and the plot line was so interesting. Again, I don't feel the need for romance in these style books. I prefer the knowledge and Intrigue and art. Good show and I can't wait for book 3!
I would like to thank C. L. Decker, C. A. Scribner, Shadow Rock Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Decker, once again , shows the reader his vast knowledge of art and the art world. You taste the wine and food that throughout his world travels, Decker has experienced. His love of traveling and meeting people of the world adds to his description of people and places in this exciting and informative story. This is a book for all to learn and enjoy.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only and the author. I really enjoyed reading this novel. I felt like I was right there when Dean discovered the painting and then throughout recovering once it went missing. I really liked the SALT crew and hope to read more of their adventures. I really liked the beginning of the novel with Dean and his quest and had hoped to read about him throughout the book.
I am a Voracious Reader and received a free copy to read. This book was very good and I hope there is another one to see what the SALT team does. I felt like I was there when the Van Gogh was found and the diary was being read.
