Jared Stone is a freaking wolf. And I don’t mean that metaphorically, either…

I thought I had it bad—living in my dead Dad’s old hunting blind in the woods, barely staying alive on apples and ramen…that was before the storm hit and destroyed the only form of shelter I had left.

Enter, Jared. The hottest—and most unavailable—guy at school. Except he wasn’t Jared when he pulled me out of the mud. He wasn’t even human.

As if that wasn’t unsettling enough, when he brought me back to his cabin, I found he wasn’t alone. Another guy, one I’d only ever heard about in whispers beneath the bleachers, was there too. Clayton Armstrong: bad boy extraordinaire. And it turned out, he wasn’t human either.

Mindf*ck, right?

At first, all I want to do is run away. But I have nowhere to go, and for whatever messed up reason, Jared is insistent that I stay. Despite Clay’s loud protests.

So, now I’m stuck in a cabin in the woods with two hot as hell wolf shifters. One who wants to protect me. And another who wants to eat me for lunch…

What could go wrong?

Just when I lost all interest in reading, about to give up on searching for something that gave me the can’t put it down feeling ... along comes this little gem.

It was perfect. Just what the Doctor ordered. Exactly the kind of slow burn but with great potential, romance I needed right now!

Nothing to mark down for apart from that awful cover maybe. Don’t let it put you off, if you love shifters and fated mates, don’t mind a slow build and need something new don’t pass this by.

I’m unsure if it’s YA, NA or adult yet. I kind of went in blind and didn’t look it up yet. The pacing was perfect and I loved that the MC was the “broken” heroine coming from an abused background, she was independent but needs a little support from the guys at the same time.
The perfect mix.

It went a little dark at the end but I’m glad to say the next book is out so the cliffhanger won’t kill you .

Warning ***SPOILER ALERT***

It starts off interesting enough. So much so, that I one-clicked. I did like the cute guy saving Allie during the storm. Unfortunately, a few chapters later is where the book begins a slow death.

I struggled with giving this a review. I didn’t want to be harsh, but the author failed to mention that there’s two mates instead of one for Allie. I don’t care for the 1:2 ratio scenario in fated mates or any type of romance novel. There’s no warning of this. If it had been, I wouldn’t have chosen this book. On top of that, there was no spark with either of the fated mates.

Besides that, there are other issues here. Like:

Weird dialogue.
Allie asked Clay what he was working on based on the engine oil on his hands. Her inner dialogue suggest she knows his working on a motorcycle, but there’s no where in earlier reading that would suggest she saw him working on a motorcycle. How would one know this by lookin at oil on another person’s hands? She even says he’s missing a part. How does she know this without actually seeing it. Further along in the book, Allie mentions she hadn’t yet seen Clay’s shop. I went back to see if I were missing something. I wasn’t missing anything. This was missing something instead.

Repetitive.
I’m living with wolves. I just have to make it until the guy upstairs leaves. I keep lying to my friends, etc, etc.

Some things left out.
Like you find out later than you should have that Devin’s father is a judge. Knowing this information earlier in the book could have helped the reader understand Allie’s decision. Why is Devin so insistent on Allie being his? Clay’s grandmother said there were two parts (or something like this) to Allie. An explanation, even towards the end could have helped. Allie says she’s responsible for her parents death. How so? And what’s this about Devin planning to release her wolf. What wolf?

Editing Please
“The Uber driver who drove us was a girl named, Jess’ uncle’s best friend, Jack”. This was an actual sentence. I read and reread it several times thinking I had missed something, but the sentence that followed indicated the author had missed something.

I could go on, but what’s the point.

Reads very YA, and I know the balance of “teenage voice” and “doesn’t actually sound like a teenager because that’s insufferable” is difficult to do. So, why make her a teen? Couldn’t she have been a down on her luck community college / working her way through life kind or girl? I don’t get how the plot is made better by putting these kids in high school. It gives me a case of the yucks, with a side of “ew grrl”🤢.

Anyways, the writing was just okay for me. Allie is of course a cool girl who rides and fixes motorbikes, can hunt, knows how to punch, and isn’t materialistic. Oh, and she’s beautiful and loves books. Jare-the-cinnamon-bear has all the personality of a saltine cracker. Clay-who-should-be-named-Ryker (because all the surly assholes in these books are names Ryker, Ryder, or Cole) is a walking, grouchball cliche. Dylan or Devin or ...fuck. I forget already, he’s THAT memorable, inexplicably wants to mate Allie and is a bloody psycho for no reason (that the author gives).

So, you get this picture. This is a reverse harem after school special: werewolf edition.

This was pretty good, I am absolutely dead with a cold right now so it could honestly be a pile of purning poop and I wouldn't know. The ending reveal of *gasp* the two of them being her mates is kinda rushed and didn't really make sense, I wish one of them was her mate and the other just her friend.

This cover is also poopoo, but I can't be bothered to alive my laptop and change the edition to the less poopoo one :)

edit: i truly don't know how my brain was functioning when i wrote this lol this is my worst review ever but i'll keep it because i'm impressed that i managed to string together such a strange series of words

After the death of her father, and with her aunt and uncle away thinking Allie is staying with friends, things haven't been easy, and they only get worse when Allie finds herself in trouble. A storm destroys the shack/old small cabin she has been secretly staying in and has her caught up in a mudslide. Rescued by a wolf, who happens to be a shifter she finds her life changing. Add in a crazy and violent ex and things get more than a little messy.

Part of me feels like the bones of the story were just laid down, and then the book ended with a cliff-hanger - luckily book 2 and 3 are out. A YA paranormal read, and a quick one at that, there are very light hints of a romance that I think will be a more tangible component of book two. Curious enough to see what happens next, so I've already downloaded book two, hoping it will have more depth both when it comes to plot and the characters.

Hoping world-building will be more potent in book 2.

It looks like there may be trouble brewing when it comes to alpha Ryland - Allie takes an instant dislike to him.

Given the cover, it was better than I expected.

The writing was actually decent, which I was surprised about. It had a small semblance of a plot, even though the book is really too short for anything to actually happen. I feel like these small paranormal romances do that a lot. Split what could be a perfectly decent book up into multiple parts of only 100 pages or so just to increase sales.

I'm not sure if I really plan on continuing the series. Even if it was better than I expected, I still feel like there were too many issues. Or really, not even issues as much as personal deal-breakers. I just wasn't invested enough in the story to really care. It was fun while it lasted but the characters are all pretty shallowly built and leave me with no lasting drive to find out what happens to them.

Also, I never comment on this when it comes to reviews, but there is so much swearing in the book that it honestly starts to detract from the story a little bit. I mean, I'm used to characters's colorful language, but this seemed to have at least one f word in every sentence.

Overall, an okay read. The writing is better than most in the genre, but the story is about what you'd expect.

I think I've read this story before at least three or four times... I'm always hoping for more creativity from YA authors, unfortunately is rare to find original plots. I don't blame them, after all they need to make a living and they learned that this is the cookie shape that sells.

It’s vary similar to the manga/anime FRUITS BASKET . the plot and storyline in the beginning are vary similar to torou Honda’s .
Dead loved parent
. Treasures picture of dead parent .
land/mudslide .
lives in woods because didn’t want to bother anyone .
2 best friends .
Like there was a instant we’re the protagonist was flustered when she found out the Jared and clay were wolves that was just like the manga/anime When torou found out Yuki and kyou were the rat and cat almost word for word .

Like I understand there’s a lot of books and genres so there can be similarities but I found that instant just like the manga .
Like I wanted to give the book a chance so I read the full book and the reviews here are awesome but idk it just felt like reading a fanfic to me .
I will read the next book tho I want to give this series a chance .

The only way I can describe this book is unlocked potential. There is the myth of the fox with multiple tails but seldom a wolf. The heroine has two of them.It had the dark forest lit with the eyes of a hundred wolves floating like haunted lanterns in the air.

The tale had the bad boy,the mad boy and overtly sad girl.It had boys that were wolves and a girl who became a wolf.Sadly though the pages were also was saturated with deep melancholy and since only the single howl being heard was that of the heroine, any aforementioned unlocked potential remained locked.

I know I say this all the time, but I just adore werewolf books, especially the ones with the mate bond. I knew when I picked up this book that this was a werewolf story, but I had no idea what direction the plot would take and the crazy turns the author created kept me constantly guessing and on the edge of my seat. And yes, while this potentially could lead to a romance (and I very much want it to!), this book was not focused on romance (but man am I excited to see how this will play out!). Instead, this had a great start to world building and character introductions. I have so many questions I can't wait to have answered, this is my first read by this author, but man did she hook me hard. I didn't realize that this series is set in a world the author already created which means I now need to go out an binge all the other books in this world because I need more now.

Geez Louise, this girl can take a hit (both physically and metaphorically) and come up swinging. A picture of her should be in the dictionary next to the word resilient. Basically being homeless, trying to finish high school and work while keeping her living situation a secret, and dodging an abusive ex-boyfriend, Allie has it rough but still keeps going. I loved her and rooted her on, wanting things to go well even when I knew it was only a matter of time before another terrible thing occurred to her. Don't worry, the girl saves herself in this tale.

I am so excited about this series, more so than most books I have read recently and will try to contain my impatience to come back into this world since that freaking cliff hanger of a shocking ending. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes werewolves, strong capable heroines, high school drama, all things paranormal and surprising twists. Just a side note, there was some physical abuse in the story so be aware if that is an issues for you.

I listened to the audiobook which was well done, the narrator did a great job bringing Allie to life. Overall the audiobook was entertaining, I would listen to the next book on audio in a heartbeat.

3 stars..

I am a little confused as to what I just read haha. I enjoyed the writing, it sucked me in and kept me hooked throughout the whole story, but I felt like there were things missing. I could feel the connection with Jared and Allie, and I could tell there was some small spark with Clay and Allie.

I could see where the author wanted to go, but I feel like if this book was longer and the relationships with the main characters were more flushed out it would have been more enjoyable. All of the events of this book spanned a week, and A LOT happened in this week. Just everything was very surface level and if we had more back story for all the characters I would have liked it more.

Overall a good start to a series, since it was so short it was very fast paced and keeps you hooked. I will start the second book and hopefully we get a little deeper with the characters... *fingers crossed*

Looking for something like the Mercy Falls stuff by Maggie Stiefvater. This wasn’t it, but I read all the way through.

* A weirdly high number of f-bombs. Like, nearly every sentence?
* Ends without any resolution, like the author wrote a longer book and then cut it up into smaller sections to make a trilogy (or however many books are in this series)?
* Better writing than some of the others in this genre.
* Some missed typos (I know, it happens). Eg: "manor" for "manner."
* The goodreads covers are horrendous. Much better covers on Amazon.

Allie makes this story so wonderful with her fighting spirit and never give up. Clay and Jared are super hot heros who arrive at the right time in her life when she needs friends to help her out.

The story is actually paced well and did not at all slow and I did not want to put down.

There is a cliffhanger and you will be cursing where this first book ends but I cannot wait to see what happens.

Really enjoyable first book.

So, Okay...

So, I found this book by chance and when I read the blurb, I immediately wanted to read this book. Now with that being said it is true when people say "your pride will cause your down fall"! So when it comes to a description of our heroine and her stupid ass pride, caused her down fall. She kinda hit my last nerve, with her making some stupid decisions.. So now this book ended on a cliffhanger and I'm hoping in the next installment of this series that the heroine is more likeable and there more of a HEA !

Overall Rating:
3.5* ~ It's a Okay Reading

This was a decent start to the story. I like how Allie was genuinely scared of Jared and Clay when she found out instead of accepting it and letting her body betray her. She was a bit of a dummy and put herself in dangerous situations. This is more of a MFM instead of RH unless she grows her harem later on.

I’m feeling meh about this book. It is promising with an interesting plot but I can see where this is going and I’m not really excited. Also it strongly reminded me of the plot from Fruit Basket but shifter version and while I really loved that manga, it didn’t work out quite as well here for me.

Why did you read this book?
I am craving RH romances at the moment and this one had good ratings.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an ebook on Kindle.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Chick Lit, Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult

What was your favorite part in the book? SPOILERS
My favorite part is when Clay shows up at the party Allie is attending and saves her from falling down the stairs.

Who would you suggest this book to?
Anyone who likes slow burns, stubborn MC, and werewolves.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? SPOILERS
I liked it. Although I thought the MC could be a bit too stubborn at times. (I get wanting to be independent, but injuring yourself is not smart.) I liked how the MC was smart and didn’t fall for the guys right away, but I would have liked to see a bit more romance building. I am interested to see how the MC handles being a shifter. I hope in the next book her Ex-boyfriend is executed.

How intense are the intimacy scenes?
There are none! :D (Some hugs and cuddles and that’s it)

At what “burn” level is the romance?
Very slow burn.

Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender?
There are two love interests, all males, and all shifters. (Possibly a third later)
Jared- Wolf shifter and popular guy.
Clay- Wolf shifter and “bad boy” type.
(Ryland- Pack Alpha)?

Allie is a senior in high school, but is all alone in the world. Both parents have died and she was living with an aunt and uncle, until they decided they’d rather live in Florida. Not wanting to be a burden to anyone, she lied to everyone. Her friends believe she’s living with her uncle in the city, and her uncle believes she’s living with one of her friends. She’s really living in her dad’s hunting blind. Sure, it’s not ideal, but she’s making it on her own. Until a violent storm begins and destroys her blind, and triggers a mudslide. She’s saved by a wolf, a gigantic wolf, and finds herself in Jared’s cabin. Jared’s friend, Clay, doesn’t want her there. But she has no where else to go. Well, this is gonna get interesting.

While at times this read like a more juvenile book, I still enjoyed it. Of course there is a violent ex-boyfriend that Clay and Jared have to contend with, and an alpha (Jared’s uncle) that is not happy with the situation at the cabin. It seems that one thing after another happen to our poor heroine that would obliterate a normal person. But not our Allie. She keeps moving forward. That is until her ex, Devin, comes back into the picture.

Normally, I wouldn’t have finished this book, as it does seem very immature to me, however the author managed to tug on my heartstrings and that is what kept me interested. I admit that the scene where Jared helps her pick up her stuff at her uncle’s storage unit did me in. I could absolutely feel the sorrow, the loss and the feeling of complete loneliness that I had to grab a tissue, or two, myself. And any book that can move me like that deserves an extra star than I would normally give and a positive recommendation. This story might not give every cold, dark heart out there a warm feeling, but it did mine.

Something I could see becoming a Netflix series

So I have several thoughts on this book, number one being that it needs a new cover. I am one to judge a book by its cover (the horror I know!) And this cover almost lost me for this book. I am glad however that I powered through because for the authors 2nd (?) Book I think she did exceptionally well! The writing was strong and steady and the characters were all interesting. The reason I think it would be perfect for a Netflix TV series is because, 1, it wouldn't cost barely anything to set the scene of the entire book. And 2, the plot is very mysterious and intriguing with a touch of dark added to it that I think would go over extremely well with fans of the Vampire diaries or twilight.
I give this book a solid 4 stars and I have very high hopes for this author!

Almost an exact copy of the first few episodes of an anime that came out in 2001 called Fruits Basket, but that had chinese zodiacs instead of werewolves. Tent/blind, parent died living with relative but they leave town, doesnt wanna bother her friends because one of which has a big family, so moves into the woods, landslide, loses picture of dead parent, boy from school helps her and offers for her to live at his cabin in the woods, turns out he's a supernatural shifter, mean cousin also lives in cabin he eventually comes to care deeply for her and so does the nice one

One of the best paranormal books I have read in a long while. For once the heroine did not blindly believe everything she was told or romanticized the situation. It was interesting and, more importantly, believable.
