Spirits & Sparkle: A Big Mountain Christmas Carol

Rate this book
Lisa doesn’t believe in ghosts. And even if she did, she doesn’t have time for them. Her mother-in-law has finally handed her the Christmas reins, and Lisa can’t mess it up. She’s practiced Christmas dinner dozens of times, found the perfect gifts, and decorated a tree beautiful enough to be on a magazine cover. Everything is right on track. But when ghosts start appearing, she can’t let them ruin all her hard work. Even if her future happiness hangs in the balance. This inspirational retelling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is the perfect story to read under a cozy blanket with a cup of cocoa.

"Where did that sparkle go?'
What was he talking about? I still had that sparkle. I mean, I wasn't a little kid anymore. I didn't have the child-like innocent. But surely, I had my sparkle."

Lisa is determined to have the perfect Christmas, and no one is going to stand in her way. Including her family. But when she gets a glimpse into how life could be if she continued with her quest, she may just realize that perfect is not everything. This one has "A Christmas Carol" vibes. I was a bit worried that it would be too cheesy as that theme has definitely be overdone at times. But I feel like the author did a good job of featuring a new angle. I will say that this one could be especially convicting for moms who can start to watch their own stories, rather than being a participant.

Spoilers would abound aplenty if I shared too many details about this one. I can say that this trilogy includes three lifelong best friends, Blake (yes, she is a woman), Clara and Lisa. This title features Lisa, but Blake and Clara definitely play an important role.

Big Mountain Christmas # 3 takes place several years after book 2, "The Truth about Lying." I think you would appreciate the characters more if you read all three of the books in order. But this would be an enjoyable read no matter what.
