John Maynard had fished many times along the Florida Panhandle and the St. Marks Lighthouse and wanted to share its beauty with Abby Sinclair, who had never visited that part of Florida. They’d left the Albany Chronicle (GA) for a three-day getaway from the sometimes violent and tragic news stories they cover together. But things didn’t work out that way. Their first day on the water they saved a Seminole man who had been shot in the head and was floating near the Aucilla River. Maynard and Sinclair are plunged into a deadly showdown with violent criminal gangs along the Gulf Coast. They turned to their new Seminole friend who uses the old ways to bring justice along the Panhandle.

I was born in Marion, Indiana, in 1957 but moved to Albany, Georgia, in 1966. I've spent most of my life in the Southeast where I wrote for newspapers and taught history and government. I few years ago, I began a thriller series - Maynard & Sinclair - set in Albany. The series is based on my experiences as a newspaper reporter for the Albany Herald in the early 1980s.

The most recent book (2019) in the series is Aucilla Bones.

Today I live and write in Fayetteville, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. My wife Phyllis is a published poet. You can find her work on Amazon as well as mine.

Thank you for considering my work.

This latest in a series of John Maynard and Abby Sinclair thrillers Lightle has been creating is probably his most interesting. Set in South Georgia and the Florida Panhandle area like the other books in the series, Aucilla Bones beautifully evokes the River and surrounding towns of the rural South. The reader can feel the cool waters, hear the birds in the trees, and relax in the knowledge that John’s and Abby’s day of fishing will make their world a calmer place.

All goes well until Reality interrupts and starts them on a roller coaster ride driven by prejudice, fear, venality and ultimately violence. The ride is populated by a well-drawn cast of characters and set in an intricate plot full of twists and turns. All in all, it’s a fast-paced exciting read that I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

Bill Lightle’s journalist’s gift for setting the scene in a Natural World that he obviously loves and for writing the backstory of each of his characters, gives depth to his stories you don’t often find in the mass-produced dime-store fiction of airport bookstores. The Reader can sink his teeth into each book in the series and come away from the experience having learned something as well as having been entertained. Reading this series is definitely time well spent.

Different from the others

If you've read the first four stories, you'll want to read this one. But the scene changes, and the adventure is a bit different. Hope you enjoy it.

Ancient bones and gangs what a mixture

Enjoyed reading this book . I am native Tallahassee and was quickly drawn into the story. This area is indeed a special place. Very well written. My attention was quickly captured in the very first part of the book. Very fast paced. The striking was developed quickly and moved along quickly.
