Money can’t buy happiness. Whoever said that obviously didn’t have any.
Money is the root of all evil. Now that one is true.
In the town of Silvercrest, everyone knows who the upper class is. The Society is the ruling class after all. They are the ones who throw cash at their problems and walk around as if they could get away with murder. Old money, new money, it doesn’t really matter to the elites. All that matters is wealth.
Ready to see just how far they will go to keep their image perfect, their pockets lined, and their actions hidden?
Michelle Brown writes in multiple genres such as Mafia Romance, Dark Romance, Horror Fiction, and many more. She lives in a small town located in North Carolina, USA. She writes stories that will break your heart only to put it back together again, just a bit bloodier. Michelle also co-writes with a close friend under the pen name Ally Michelle.
I’m addicted to Alice La Roux stories and her part in this anthology did not disappoint. Elena attends Slivercrest Prep she’s the model student, just like her dad wants her to be but her passion lives with the dance studio.
Tristan likes Elena more than he wants to admit. He loves to watch her dance. In fact he’s found the perfect place to watch her without her knowing.
These two are promised to each other but the connection goes deeper. Can Tristan and Elena escape the pressures of an elite life? Could being together be the answer to their problems?
Each Book will be Individually Rated and Reviewed, then I will Total for an Overall Star Rating.
There will be No Spoilers From Me.
Overall Total: 4.5/5, Listing as 4 Stars.
**1** Revenge Knows No Love By Sam Destiny Rating: 2/5 While I liked the concept, the story for me just didn’t satisfy nor really make sense to me. Belle as a whole did not make sense, from beginning to end. Plus there are quite a few things she had said that didn’t match up. The plot felt too weird(?) and a bit fast, the characters way too understanding (and I’m not talking about the scene where Belle & Kip are playing coy) as well as naive, and I also did find it a bit flat in tone. It felt too compact and wasn’t pieced correctly and was also missing pieces, as well as it felt a bit out of order. A beta reader would’ve/should’ve fixed a lot of these issues.
**2** The Good Girl By Alice La Roux Rating: 3.5/5 This was a good but ok book for me. It was much longer than I was expecting.
**3** Pretty Things Fall By Michelle Brown Rating: 3.5/5 Definitely a fast and compacted stories, it’s Dark lite for me. I couldn’t really connect with Quinn.
**4** The Lesson By TL Mayhew Rating: 4/5 Great Ending! This author is new to me, I look forward to reading more books.
**5** Sugar Daddy By Murphy Wallace Rating: 5/5!! Great Cliffhanger! Can’t wait to read the next book when it comes out! Love this Story so far!
**6** Sell Your Soul By Ally Vance Rating: 5/5!! This is Devins book, and it wasn’t at all I was expecting his to be...It’s even better!! I had no idea. So Good!! Love it!!
**7** The Bet By C.L. Matthews Rating: 1000/5 aka 5/5!! Such a great and most definitely unforgettable read! It’s SO GOOD!!😍 Definitely my favorite story out of the bunch! 😍
Read Good Girl and of the rest of the anthology is anything like this story it’s gonna be one you won’t put down til you read cover to cover. Alice did an amazing job the story was dark, sexy and intense it kept you interested the whole time. I wanna read more of this story so I hope she continues on with it I absolutely loved it.
✨I will continue to update this reviews as I read more of the stories. (Last updated: 1/30/2021) ✨
🗝 THE BET by CL Matthews Rating: 5+⭐️ . Bought this book specifically for this story. After reading CL Matthews Here Lies series I’ve started collecting her books. And when I saw this story was specifically about a GRIM I was highly intrigued. Maybe Kenji and Atlas will cross over into the Here Lies series, maybe not, but either way I’m happy to glimpse the family.
Identical in nearly every way, Kenji and Atlas are competitive to a fault. From the time they were little they’ve always bet each other they couldn’t do something. And as they got older the consequences got steeper. They’re now up to murder.
This story is literally a melt your panties off feast of MM carnal relations. And damn 🥵🤤 one has a 5 bar Jacobs ladder!!
I’ll say one thing, don’t sleep in CL Matthews books!! They bring the story you’re craving with a searing blast of steam in all the best ways.
NOTE: We glimpse Harley & Aero (from Another Family Affair) and Texas & his husband Devin from Loveless at the end of this story.
This anthology blew me away. I have never read anything like it. The premise alone sold me – secret society? Heck yes. The authors took it one step further and made it so very well interconnected that it was more like reading a series than a traditional anthology. I can’t imagine the work that went into preparing it. I loved every word. 5 stars for a unique, twisted, and engaging read!
Revenge Knows No Love by Sam Destiny – 4.5 stars This was an excellent beginning to this anthology. The suspense and edginess set the tone for the anthology. Sam Destiny really made a twisted story with characters I wasn’t sure whether to love or hate at times. I desperately need more and hope an extended version is planned.
With all anthology pieces, word count is restricted so although I deducted half a point for some inconsistent pacing, it was nothing that would draw the reader away and most likely due to the word count.
The Good Girl by Alice La Roux – 5 stars Everything about this just worked perfectly. My jaw dropped at parts, my heart pounded and yet it was certainly a romance. I can’t get over these characters and how the author pulled every single emotion out of me with this piece. I’ve already reread this one because I can’t get it out of my head.
Pretty Things Fall by Michelle Brown – 5 stars Emotional devastation. That sums up how I feel. Though it’s in the very best way. I love the way the author took me on a journey and the twists. Dang. No words are good enough on this one. I had to set the anthology down for a bit after reading it just to get myself together.
The Lesson by TL Mayhew – 4.5 stars Loved the steamy taboo aspect of this, and yet it managed to be a bit sweet as well. I’m looking forward to more on this.
Again, I think it was due to word count, but I felt there needed a little more depth to the characters. Yet it isn’t enough to prevent me from needing all the words. I’m looking forward to see what TL Mayhew brings.
Sugar Daddy by Murphy Wallace – 5+ stars Excuse me while I go cry and scream. This is phenomenal and I may have cursed the author because I need more to the story. The author knows how to elicit a reaction certainly!
Sell Your Soul by Ally Vance – 5 stars This captivated me. There were times I wanted to yell and strangle Devin. I absolutely adore Ethan (and claim him as mine). This story transported me right into the pages and I could not let go. Ally Vance brought these characters to life and the way the story came together was perfect.
The Bet by C.L. Mathews – 5+ stars This was the hardest to review. I bow down to this author. All the stars. Just. Dang. I’m not even going to pretend I can write a review that truly reflects how incredible of a story C.L. Mathews wrote. This ticked off every bit of dark, twisted, demented and just holy heck. It may not be for everyone but it certainly was for me!
Revenge Knows No Love by Sam Destiny I don’t know if I would want to read the next one of Belle story it’s not about the writing. But I really don’t love when one of the characters are so stubborn I like them to be just a little bit and I don’t know how this story will go by but I hope if there is a next one it would be much better then this short one.
The Good Girl by Alice La Roux I found this story a bit more interesting and has a bit more in sight of what the society is about. And now I’m definitely curious of what they can do how far will they go to gain more power and protect their way of live.
Pretty Things Fall by Michelle Brown Ok with this story I don’t know if it just jump to one place through another but I think there were parts missing . So I hope the reason of that is that there is going to be more to come.
The Lesson by TL Mayhew Love this age gap of the couple and that ending I will sure be looking forward for more of the founding families.
Sugar Daddy by Murphy Wallace Oh my goodness! Sorry but I have to say that this one is much better then the rest. Carver he definitely is a hottie. I’m definitely going to be looking forward to the rest of Ingrid and Carver relationship.
Sell Your Soul by Ally Vance Oh man, oh man this two last stories have been interesting. Devin wow I thought I would have to wait awhile to get his story but I’m glad we got a little bit of him. But just like all the rest I would have to wait and see if there will be a happy ending for him I hope he does Ethan and Devin seem to be just perfect for me.
The Bet by C. L. Matthews Ok hmm wow. This was completely different than the rest so I have not much to say without giving to much away. The only thing I will say that even with that shocking story it was definitely an interesting read.
In the town of Silvercrest lies the ruling class of The Society. They can make any problem disappear for the right amount of cash, and they can get anyway with murder. They are untouchable.
So far I have only read Alice La Roux's addition to this book and just wow. Elena and Tristan have had an arrange marriage within The Society from a young age, but Elena wants nothing to do with Tristan. She wants to finish school and go to college, but she puts on a mask in front of everyone to please her father. But Tristan sees who she really is, she thinks she is losing control but he believes she is becoming who she is meant to be. This story was definitely longer than I was expecting and I fell in love with Tristan, he might come from money but he doesn't care about those things, all he cares about is claiming Elena as his own but on his terms, not his families. There are a few things going on in the background of this story and you find out that some characters are definitely not what they seem.
“It all started with a dare. One which pitted us against each other since we were ten. Who knew two brothers—twins, no less—would ruin their lives on one word. Wager.”
Due to my insane schedule, I only read one story out of this anthology. I know they all tie in together but they can be read separately as well.
The Bet by CL Matthews
Cassie has quickly became one of my FAVORITE authors to date. Her stories always slay my soul or are so extremely taboo that I can’t help but to keep reading.
Twin brothers. I have been WAITING to read a twin brothers story because.. HELLLOOOOO.. that’s hot af. And Cassie did not disappoint with Kenji and Atlas.
Dark. Depraved. Forbidden.
“Bet.”
This story was insanely hot to me. I would LOVE to have more of them. They are addicting.
2.5 stars to 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥, because tristan and elena served arranged marriage trope.
2 stars to 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥, because quinn and sebastian's story was interesting and i see the potential but it was definitely incomplete? there were huge chunks missing from the chapters and the ending was very abrupt.
i have no idea how to rate 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭, this one was about a pair of twins and it was so disturbing like wtf tw:
I was lucky to receive an ARC of The Good Girl by Alice La Roux and holy crap! I highly recommend this book. Amazing characters and the plot will suck you right in. I hope I see more from these characters!
The following review is for Sell Your Soul by Ally Vance Hot, hot, hot!! I loved this story set in the dark, brutal world of The Society. Devin and Ethan are so wrong for each other, but their attraction is almost instantaneous, sparking a love/ hate relationship neither can afford to acknowledge.
The plot was intriguing, and I was totally caught up in this suspense-filled short story with murder, revenge and passion at its heart...I received an advanced copy of this novella from the author
This review is on Pretty Things Fall. I was trapped in its web of lies and intrigued by the deceitful secrets. Absolutely loved this story and looking forward to reading the rest of the stories included in this collection.
Sell Your Soul by Ally Vance The Society is a dark brutal world where money and power rule and can't be touched until they meet Ethan who's on a mission of revenge. Devin and Ethan are intense with a love hate attraction and makes it even more dangerous but the passion is hot hot these two light the pages on fire. I Loved It on the edge of your seat story with fantastic plot and characters.
The Society: I LOVED THIS ANTHOLOGY. I CANNOT GET OVER HOW AMAZING AND UNIQUE IT WAS. EVERY SINGLE STORY WAS 5 STARS. ONE OF MY FAVORITE ANTHOLIGIES EVER.
Revenge Knows No Love by Sam Destiny *SPOILER* This was my first book by this author and I liked it alot! Man, I was so bummed to flip to the last page and not see the hero and heroine together but then I told myself, not all endings have to end with a man and a woman being together. It DID end with an HEA. Annabelle got to be with her dad and start a new life and Kip DID get his revenge. And in the acknowledgments the author says this was not her normal type of book to write so I would say she did a fantastic job especially being this was an anthology with other authors writing about the same society!
The Good Girl by Alice La Roux
Dang. I really really LOVED this story from the very start. I did NOT want it to end! I would be completely happy if the author lengthened this into an entire book about Tris and Lena and how their enemies to lovers teen years blossomed into a marriage. It was amazing to witness all the side characters that are actually big characters in other stories too. Like that part where Quinn yells at Serena but it actually Happens in another author's book. I really love how this anthology was weaved together.
Pretty Things Fall by Michelle Brown
I really loved this story! When I was finished I kept thinking I WANT MORE. Sebastian seemed like he would be someone I wouldnt like but boy was I wrong. At first I thought I wouldnt like Quinn. She seemed like such a mean girl. But I grew to love and understand her! And the twist really got me! I had no idea. Also, like I said before in my review of Alice La Roux's book, I think its so unique how this anthology was written. How each story is different but side characters in your book are main characters in other books. How Quinn yelling at Serena happened in another story too. This is so cool! Absolutely loved this! 5 stars!
The Lesson by TL Mayhew
I loved Harlyn from the start after getting a peek into her from the other story Pretty Things Fall. I loved that she took that kiss from Asher and didnt run away. I loved that she straight up told Lance she wasnt into him. Gahh I just can't get over how creative this anthology is. Its like with each novella I already know these ladies! And shew, Mr Harrison can teach me a few lessons let me tell you! I was entranced with him from the GET GO. Lance made me soo mad. That ending too! Gasp!
Sugar Daddy by Murphy Wallace
I need a sugar daddy. Preferably Carver Brooks. Can I have one sculpted like him for me please? I love him and his fierceness. I love a good age gap story. Ingrid definitely seemed older for her age and I had an inkling in the back of my mind she was connected to his business deal. I was happy I was right...until the end! That cliffhanger! Amazing story!
Sell Your Soul by Ally Vance
I absolutely love MM romance and enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Add those together and you have yourself an EPIC romance. This author did such a great job on Devin & Ethans story! I was so happy to see him get a book! I loved his little evilness in the other story!!!! & to find out his book was an MM romance made me SO happy! THEN to find out it ALSO tapped into Katys murder omg I was so happy with it all! It flowed effortlessly. Ethan was fierce and the sex was BOMB.
The Bet CL Matthews
First off, Hollywood Undead is NOT bad :-) its so goood. Ok now that we have that settled, WOAH HOT MAMA!...I mean hot brothers! This book was seriously one of my favorites from this author. She knows exactly how to feed my inner darkness. Kenji and Atlas were mouthwatering. I thought it was MORE than perfect. It was so so so good. I just cant get over it. And then with the Loveless being thrown in and the other AMAZING characters the author has written, my heart actually skipped a beat with that epilogue. I LOVED LOVED seeing Credence, Wren, Harley, Aero, Texas and Devin again!!!!!! 5 STARS!!!
Usually with an anthology I write individual reviews for each story but in this case, I only read two before I DNF'd so I am just writing my reasons for choosing to do so.
The stories in this anthology interconnect, so it is necessary to read them all. I tried skipping one that I own separately that has been expanded, planning to read it later, and realized the stories were too intertwined to do so.
As is typical for me, I buy anthologies and wait ages to actually read them, and usually by then the individual authors have released their stories singly, which has happened with several of the stories in this one (including some noting they are significantly expanded like in the aforementioned one I attempted to skip), so I am not sure how that interconnected thing works now that this anthology has been unpublished and some (but not all) of the stories have been released alone. I didn't see any notes in the newer versions (the ones I own) that you needed to go to X story first, despite them being published separately now.
I made a hearty attempt to not skim in the first story, but the writing and world-building was so poor I ended up doing so by the end. I got the gist of things for that story's main characters, but it was not good so I was eager to move along. Shortly after that I realized the side characters in that first story were main characters in the rest of the stories, and that it would be necessary to read everything in order, but the writing in the next story I read was not great either, even allowing for some missing information due to my skipping choice, and never was any of the shared world's structure or politics (or people) really explained. Maybe it comes later in some kind of planned reveal type of way, but I was in no mood to slog through bad writing so I decided to stop.
This is a phenomenal anthology I loved every single story, each story is original and enjoyable to read.
Revenge knows no love by Sam destiny
I wasn’t sure where this story was going to take me but I love how it turned out. The strong MC was so much fun to read.
The good girl by Alice la roux Alice is a new author to me and I loved this story and it’s characters. She brought the characters to life. Definitely won’t be the last thing I read from Alice.
Pretty things fall by Michelle Brown I need more, Michelle brought to life characters that I need more of, what’s going to happen next where are they going to end up in The Society
The lesson by TL Mayhew Instantly intrigued. This story pulls you in a keeps you reading. That ending!!!!! I want more
Sugar daddy by Murphy Wallace This story is short and sexy and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters pull you in leaving you wanting more
Sell your soul by ally Vance This story is MM and man is it hot!!! The passion between the two characters are intense. The story line behind it all is even better
The Bet Cl Matthews Dirty, sexy and down right wrong in the best way possible.
The Society is a collection of short stories by authors: TL Mayhew, C. L. Mathews, Ally Vance, Murphy Wallace, Sam Destiny, Michelle Brown and Alice La Roux. These are dark, twisted tails, full of debauchery in a society that will do anything to succeed. All of the stories take place in the town of Silvercrest where the upper-class rules and no problem seems to be too big to get rid of.
If you like your stories dark, sexy and with lots of twist and turns then this anthology should be on your must-read list. Each story seems to have intense characters who you are going to love to hate and are part of the upper elite and the lengths that they will go to protect themselves! They do leave you wanting to read more about the characters and what makes them tic, with intriguing plots, twist and turns and some deliciously dark moments.
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊
The Society is a collection of stories written by some amazing authors based in the town of Silvercrest that is filled with the rich, prestigious families of The Society and all their secrets. The things they and their children will do to keep their secrets and money safe. Each author tells a story about a different person from one of these prestigious families and the things they will do to protect themselves, the ones they love and their money. Each story was a remarkable read and left me wanting for more. This is a must read and I look forward to reading what comes next for each of these stories from their authors in the to be continued books!
This was definitely a different story from this arthur not to say it was bad or good just different. This story is about Quinn and Sebastian these 2 were promised to marry at a early age as dictated by the parent's and The Society. Sebastian found out he has a sister and Quinn thinks he's cheating so she decides to cheat as well yeh 2 wrongs don't make a right, but then something happens to Katy and the finger points to Quinn. Will she be blamed or will The Society take care of it and make it go away. I very much enjoyed reading this and the way it ended I hope there's going to be more.
Ally Vance wrote a brilliant five star read for this anthology!!!! Hot isn’t even word enough to describe how blazing this story was!!!! Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!!
No one and I mean NO ONE does taboo quite like CL Matthews. Leave your morals at the door. Atlas and Kenji will test everything that the society teaches us to be wrong. This short story was incredibly well written, hot, 'I should probably seek for mental help' type of forbidden but insanely good. I'm still waiting on the day this author disappoints.
13 'I want a twin sandwich' ⭐⭐
ETA: I recommend reading the previous short stories first. I didn't and I felt like I was missing the background of "The Society" that the characters were part of.
I can't wait to read more of this story. (6/2021) This collection of stories are entertaining, dark, taboo and a page turning. All are new authors to but C.L. Matthews. I definitely recommend reading this book. I loved it!! ❤❤❤❤❤
dnf - i can’t do this lol i tried so hard but i just can’t get into any of these stories. i love the concept of the secret society but it’s falling flat for me. i may come back to it later.
This is a review of Good Girl by Alice La Roux. I loved this story and I was really happy with the ending.
The Society will do anything to protect their way of life, even if that means forcing Elena to marry Tristan. Elena is a perfect student who loves to dance and tries way too hard to please her father, the only thing is she doesn’t want to marry Tristan she wants to go to college but her father is having none of it, the only person who see’s the real Elena is Tristan who would much rather be holed up in the attic painting than attending school and pleasing his father. Will Tristan and Elena get together? Will Elena’s father let her go to college?
