Rate this book
Our relationship starts as a game.
I sneak into his bar underage.
He kicks me out.
Repeat.

Maliki Bridges is the town's hottest bar owner.
He thinks I'm the mayor's troublesome daughter.
I think he has a stick up his a**.

Once I turn twenty-one, we become friends.
Nothing more ...

Until my world is turned upside down, and he offers me his guest bedroom.
It's a bad idea, moving in with him, but any opportunity I get to be around him I'll take.
Consequences be damned.

woah what the heck i just made my self read :/
i'm beyond mad and pissed and i don't understand why there are so many good reviews ?
who likes a book where the girl it's "kinda-sorta dating a guy" but she stuck up to always go to a bar for the hot bartender and it was kind of funny at the start , but then.....when i tough that there will be finally something with those two, she decided to marry her sorta-kinda boyfriend WTF???? WTF??? they had an open relationship, and she tells everything about it to the bartender ( the less and less sex, about him going with other girls ,that she clearly isn't loving that guy) and she STILL MARRIED THE FREAKING GUY WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF? I'M SCREAMING, i can't. this is BS !
btw DNF AT 20% !!!! why?? cuz after her freaking honeymoon the guy tells her her husband was f***g another girls at a party.
i can.t stand this shit, this is freaking stupid,i'm done
She is clearly involved sentimentally with the bartender ,and it's clear that he is too even if they "friendzoned each others" but we are talking about young adults here not freaking teenagers.
i don't care how and when they will end up with each others. it's to much at this point. it would be cool only if she didn't freaking did a wedding, it's not like they loved each others and then she start feeling different. it's the total opposite, she KNEW AND SHE STILL FREAKING GO TROUGH IT ALL,NO LOVE NO, PRESSURE NO FREAKING NOTHING.
SORRY FOR THE HARSHNESS BUT I'M STILL FUMING :/

“You’re trouble, Jailbait—a pageant princess with a crooked crown and leather jacket.”

I don’t know what to say about Just Roommates, other than its probably my favorite Charity Ferrell book to date. This is a beyond complicated, slow burn friends to lovers book. Oh and they eventually become roommates. This story spans over a few years where Maliki and Sierra meet, become somewhat friends, then somewhat besties, then definite roommates who are beyond attracted to each other. There are other people in their lives through the years, and there are complications once they finally get together, but the best part about this story is once I started reading, I could not stop. It’s a good read. There’s angst, there’s heat, and there’s a friends to lovers love story. Can’t beat it.

I was feeling the beginning of this book and everything between Maliki & Sierra. But once the whole marriage thing popped up and the desk sex happened with another women.
My interest dropped a lot. I hated it. I hated all the back and forth. It made absolutely no sense.
Sierra was obsessed with Maliki sex life. Always throwing that he slept with all these women to his face. It got old.

I’m 42% in and I’m just trying not to skim it! I started to get somewhat back into once they got together. Then the ball dropped! When one of his ex hook-ups comes back to him with the shocking news that he’s the father of her little girl.
That was 65% in.
The baby mama is Sierra’s best friends older sister!
Yeah... no!

Then Maliki hides it from Sierra. He was sneaking around trying to work something out. Never thought to include Sierra in any decision.
Then he lies to Sierra to meet his daughter. I was so over it!!!

Once he gets to the house where his daughter lives... and he see’s Jessa (The Baby mama) he thinks this about her.

Jessa is wearing a tight red dress, baring plenty of cleavage, is barefoot, and her hair is pulled into a tight ponytail. There’s no denying she’s an attractive woman. It’s what drew me to her and caused me to fuck her so many times. I ignored her craziness in exchange for her hotness.

I hated that he even look at her any way.

Then of course Sierra takes him back like nothing. Jumps back in bed with him.

Omg... I absolutely hate books like this. And female leads that just accept everything.

I thought this was going to be a light fun read. This was just a hot mess. And I just checked out. I just skimmed it to see how it all ends.

This was a horrible book!!

I had no clue this was the 5th book in a series. I will not be reading those other books. This book turned me off to them.

Ok didn't I say that it had started going downhill for me by the second or third book, well it kept getting worse in my eyes. Again I dont find it romantic to read about the main characters having sex with other people and then claiming that they were the ones for them and that the looooved the other person so much..yeah gag me. So we meet Sierra who is immature as all get out and who meet Maliki her supposed love interest the guy she has been crushing on forevah..Maliki owns the bar that Sierra sneaks into at the age of 18, he tells her she is underage to drink but not underage to f-- you get the drift and their love affair begins. she sneaks into his bar again in 2 years and he is lusting after her even though he acts like he is not. then finally finally at the ripe old age of 21 she gets a free drink from him and his attention. She is sleeping with another guy who she has a complicated relationship with, while stringing along Maliki who is only too happy to be strung along. Finally she marries this other guy whom she supposedly doesn't love because why she loves Maliki, the night before the wedding she hears Maliki having sex with someone else and she has the nerve, yup the nerve to be upset with him, he claims -later on that he had sex with this other chick because Sierra was getting married. maliki catches her husband cheating on her tells Sierra who immediately moves in with Maliki, and there ridiculous love affair really begins..goooooooood, I almost done with my commitment, just one moer ridiculous book to go, woo hoo.

rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..voluntarily reviewed (wish I hadn't) with my own thoughts and opinions.

Let me tell you how long I’ve been waiting in this book....ummmm, probably not as long as it feels like, but it’s been long enough. From the moment I met Maliki I’ve been stupidly excited for his book, and I have to let you know, it’s everything I had hoped it would be and more. Him and Sierra are just perfect together, and I love that there is a bit of an age gap too. This is one of my favourite series EVER and I feel like more people should be shouting about these books. They are funny sexy, angsty, and you will fall in love with every single one of the guys of BLUE BEECH.

“You’re trouble, Jailbait—a pageant princess with a crooked crown and leather jacket.”

My first book by this author. I loved the writing style. So smooth.
I also loved the main characters and the story line was captivating. That twist in the second half of the book was everything! I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

I really liked the book and the hero but he‘s lost all of my respect now.

„It pisses off how damn quick Sierra threw us away when she‘d fought for us for so long.“

YOU.ARE.A.PIECE.OF.SHIT!

You lied to her for weeks and instead of apologizing, you turn the whole situation around on her and blame her for leaving your lying and pathetic ass?

Let me tell you, from the bottom of my heart: Go fuck yourself.

„If you get hurt again, it won’t be by me.“
You already hurt her worse than anyone else, dipshit.

She broke up with you because you LIED to her for weeks and not because she doubts your love for her.

When you‘re in a lasting relationship, love isn‘t nearly enough. It‘s companionship, trusting the other not too hurt you and not hurting your partner. It means going through shit together.

This whole stupid storyline reminds me of season 6 of Gilmore girls and I HATED most of season 6!

Didn’t mean to rant but I‘m freaking pissed right now.

————————————————————————

Edit:

I now have lost all my respect for Sierra as well.

I made the mistake of skipping a few pages and read a little further.

She took him back BEFORE he even properly apologized. What happened to groveling?

So, so done with this shit!

Okay I loved this book until the trope I hate most "let's keep this a secret that will definitly be the right way to go about it. It will definitly not blow up" that gives me too much anxiety. The rest of the story was really fun tho

The characters were annoying me tbh. Like it was just a constant, tiring back and forth between the MC and the love interest.

It was also kind of embarrassing how obsessed the MC was with him. Like girl please STAND UP 😭😭

I loathe this book and everyone who tricked me into thinking it would be good.

At first it was cute and funny, but then she gets married to the guy she doesn't love or trust and still flirts with the bartender because he "understands her".

He's upset she's marrying someone else, but at the same time won't do anything about it cause their relationship would never last. She ends up finding him with another women gets jealous and kind of gets married out of like...spite. Then moths later he shows up to her place and shows her that her husband has been cheating on her, she then moves in with him and gets a job at his bar.

When they were finally ok(I use that word very lightly), he finds out he has a child. Instead of telling her, he hides it and spends time with not only his daughter but also his baby mama(Who is try to do everything in her power to get back with him). When she finds out that they were spending time together and that they had a child it was from her. She goes to confront him he begs to “Don’t do this. Don’t fucking walk away from us.” When she tells him it was about trust and not love, he tells her she's being a child and tries to blame her mistrust in him on her age.

She leaves him, and though he says he knows it was him who hurt them, he still blames her. He knows that his baby mama is trying to hurt her, but continues to belittle her and tell her its nothing when he lets his baby mama touch him like their a couple in front of the fmc. Not only let next day does she forgive him and move back in. 😐

I have no words for how much I dislike this book. Also throughout the book he makes her feel bad for feeling things that are normal. I really really dislike both of these characters.

Love love this book! The chemistry is just pure perfection. I wouldn’t say that this is an enemies to lovers romance nor a hate to love. I mean there was no hate in the first place. Both were attracted at first sight, if not before.

Sierra Lane is full of flirt and sass which makes her such an interesting character. Maliki Bridges challenges her which not only spices up their conversation but also adds humor to it. Yep, I definitely inserted a few chuckles and giggles at every witty response either of them gives. Additionally, I love their names - super unique for me. Overall, the character building is a solid 100.

Let’s talk writing style. This is my first book of the authors and my first impression was that it was oddly similar to Elle Kennedy. SIMILAR not the SAME!They way they write their sassy MCs and the way they add humor to the conversation. So of course, I loved it. If you’ve read any Elle Kennedy books (The Deal, The Risk, etc.), try this out.

Dislikes- do I have any? I just was a tad bit unsatisfied with Maliki’s response to certain situations (no spoilers!). But otherwise, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Recommend? YES. To my fellow romance lovers, this is for you. To my fellow bookworms who are not as fond of romance as I am, try it out and see if you’ll like it.

i was enjoying this at first. i didn’t mind the 10 year age gap, even though they first met when she was 18. i could get past the fact she was “kinda-sorta” dating a guy. hell, i could get past her marrying that “kinda-sorta” guy when she was clearly in love with maliki. she got married to this guy, despite telling maliki that 1) their sex life was lacking 2) he had slept with other girls while they were on their “break” 3) most of the reason she was going to marry him was because she saw how happy it made her mother.

it was the 80% conflict that ruined it. truly, it was all of it together, but the conflict just topped it off. i love a good 80% romance book conflict. i know some people hate them, but not me. i love the angst, and above all, i love the grovelling.

maliki was being a fucking IDIOT. i could understand his reasonings, if i really wanted to. i hate miscommunication/lack of communication in books, but like i said: i’m a sucker for angst, i would’ve let it slid. but it was when they actually had that conflict; he was a complete dick. he blamed HER for shit he did. but that’s fine. i love angst. i could even relish in his lapse of judgement. but this man did not fucking grovel.

quite literally, the words “sorry” didn’t leave his lips until after he’d fucked her again. he didn’t grovel. didn’t apologise. didn’t own up to his actions. and sierra just accepted it. i don’t give a flying fuck that she loved him. she was heartbroken. this man had just betrayed her, and she gets back into bed with him and forgives him? when he hadn’t even apologised?

i mean this in the most respectful way possible: what was the author thinking? sierra was built up as this strong, independent woman who didn’t take shit from no man — proven by the fact she left her husband the moment she learnt he cheated — but she forgives maliki because of a couple orgasms? stupid as fuck. why ruin a character like that?

these motherfuckers were in their 20s and 30s and acting like fucking teenagers. no one was mature. it was stupid, and oh my god, the slut-shaming sierra did to maliki. it wasn’t funny or cute. she assumed he slept with every goddamn woman he looked at, and threw it in his face. liz hated her for no reason (and while she got her redemption arc, it was still stupid). jessa was a stereotypical homewrecker and maliki wouldn’t grow some fucking balls and actually do anything about it. the whole thing with her dad and his illegitimate child with her brothers girlfriend or some shit?? what the hell was that????

literally what WAS this book. the more i think about it, the worse it gets. i thought it was a cute romcom book. oh, how i was fooled. i should’ve known it was bad the moment i saw the old cover (shirtless man, surprise surprise).

i wish i could’ve enjoyed this more. i’m really disappointed. i saw so many good reviews. but i should’ve known not to trust tiktok recommendations. they have failed me in the past, and they have failed me again.

Small town, Contemporary Romance, Friends-to-Lovers

First person; dual-POV

Book #5 of the Blue Beech series, it could be read as a standalone, but I don't recommend it. I believe for a better enjoyment of small town romances, part of the charm is to know characters and settings well.

We suffered and risked our happiness out of fear. If we had skipped the games, we would've been here years ago.

by Maliki

Addictiveness: 5/5 I'm in love with the series and this is another heart stopping story. Really, this town, these characters are so likable that you become invested in their happiness and can't let go until the end. As addictive as chocolate!!!

Character: hero 5/5, heroine 4.5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Very complex characters with lots of depth. Because this is the fifth book of a series, I've seen both Sierra and Maliki before. I've loved them.

Maliki is WOW!!! Really, I can't find a word to describe him. He was hot, patient, loyal, good with people and amazing for Sierra. Yes, he had a TSTL (too stupid to live moment), but we all have that sometimes.

Sierra was so fun. Great heroine! I took half a star from her, just because her path was harder than it should have been because she made it that way. I really didn't understand her life choices, but I guess she was young and afraid to take a risk.

So many amazing secondary characters. Every book from the series I've fallen in love a with the characters. I have read 5 couples now, all of them very easy to love. Plus all the great kids and characters for future books. Maybe Rex and Carolina will be next. I would also love to read books from Maliki's friends.

The villains... ok, they are not villains, more the antagonists... there are more than one, which was a surprise. One came out of nowhere as a twist. But even them are well written and have layers.

These characters were multidimensional, very easy to love, connect and understand.

Freshness4/5 This book is different. It has its own unique story. They way they have met and became friends was cute and unusual. It felt original, like something that I haven't really read before.  As fresh as a cold bottle of water in the middle of the desert!

Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5  Amazing opening and great ending. A very believable plot that has been written by a wordsmith. Dialogues were fun and sexy. The story was fast-paced with several subplots and a few unexpected twists. Lovely small town that has elevated this series to another level. Highest level of satisfaction!!!

Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 5/5  I'm in love with their romance. It was so beautiful, at times pure at others dirty. From their first meeting I could feel their chemistry. The way the hero patiently waited for the heroine to grow up was loving. Their sexy scenes were hot and very well written. Enduring love!

Writing Style: 5/5 Perfection!!! Really, Ms. Ferrell is a wordsmith. She has a clean, cohesive style of writing that carry lots of emotions and feelings. Her characters are real and really easy to connect. Inspiring writing!

Cover: art 3.5/5, title 5/5, color-font 4/5, buy 4/5  I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. This is not a bad cover at all. It is just a bit generic and I love to "read a story" through its cover. After reading the book, sure, this could be Maliki from the jeans and hat, but could be too many people. I just wanted to find clues on the cover. I love the title and the color/font is good. At the end of the day is a sexy man and yes... I would buy this book by its cover, but maybe I would need to read the blurb.

"Own me, Maliki."

"Jailbait, I've owned you since you were eighteen."

by Sierra and Maliki

Ms. Ferrell is a goddess!!!! Really, I've binge on the series reading all five books in 4 days. Each book had it own unique traits within this amazing small town built by the author.

If I were to take a guess I would say next book will be Rex and Carolina. I can't wait! In fact, I hope this will be a very long series.

If I only could choose one thing to say about this series: it feels real!!! Very believable!!!

33.5/35 STARS –  5 STARS (between 33.5 stars and 35 stars)

Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 3.5 Freshness: 4  Plot: 5 Romance: 5 Writing Style: 5

Action 1.5/5

Angst 3/5

Darkness 0/5

Humor 4/5

Romance 5/5

Suspense/Mystery 1/5

Would I recommend? This is a must for anyone that enjoys family romance!!!

Would I re-read this book/series? YES! This has totally become binge worthy!

Would I read more from the author? Can’t wait for more!!!

You MAY read this because you like small town romance; you SHOULD read this because you enjoy love stories; you MUST read this because this series is addictive!!!

would have been a lot better if there was ANY type of diversity
besides that i really enjoyed this, and probably would’ve gave it a higher rating if so.
BUT i do appreciate the “we have an age gap and i’ve known you since you were young but not too young and i’m not a creep.” trope😩(cuz it’s usually like)”i’ve known you since you were 7🤪”
he’s known her since she was 18
anyways her brother is hot asf, that’s all.

This book had such a fun/promising start and all my favorite tropes. It was a younger lady/older man/forced proximity etc etc etc. The main character Sierra was so fun to start - really sassy and confident.

But then after *****spoiler alert***** her husband (yes, she gets married halfway through) cheated on her, she just becomes a sad sack which I fully understand! We've all been through bad breakups! But she was just so boring to read about.

There was also so much jealousy!!! Like, you cannot get be deeply jealous when you are not with someone? Or you can, but you cannot be so rude about it? And then halfway through when you find out the male lead (I finished this last night and could not tell you his name because it left so little of an impression on me) has a secret baby, he continues to keep it secret. That's when the book starts hurtling downhill. I could barely keep reading because it was 1) boring 2) I hate when they keep ~secrets~ that cause drama when they truly do not have to. Talk to each other!!!

It was a bummer because at first I was excited to find a fun new author and the side characters seem really interesting, but I don't know if I'd try them now.

These two made my head hurt but in a good way. It was so much fun reading the banter between MC's. It was almost torture the slow burn that was happening.
I'm usually against all the game playing and these two had perfected the game. My heart was breaking everytime she left him in the beginning. You could see how perfect they were for one another and I wanted to smack some sense into both of them. The chemistry was of the charts and when they finally decided to give in and fall in each other's arms I was so over the moon.

I'm so enamored with this series and I'm hoping we'll get great stories like this one out of it.

This was my first Charity Ferrell book and I am so glad I stumbled upon her. I really truly enjoyed this book. I loved the back and forth flirting and sexual tension between Sierra and Maliki throughout the entire book. I loved that this story was more of a slow burn and there was actual friendship between the two characters. I liked that the author didn't rush these two to be together, they got to know each other and were trusted friends before anything else.
4 stars from me I will definitely be going back and reading everything else in this Blue Beech series.

I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Drama!

This is definitely a wild ride. I wanted to smack both characters at some point in the book, but I also really enjoyed them. The connection they shared was so wonderful and the ups and the downs really kept me enthralled. I’ve really enjoyed reading this series!

Rich sorority girl and the bartender

He’s older than her but she’s drawn to him. She’s. Even sneaking into his bar since she was 18. He always catches her and puts her out. They can’t seem to stop the flirting. She’s kinda sorta in a relationship but she wants him.

My first novel by this author and all I can say is, “Give me more!!”
A hot and steamy little morsel, that also had me in stitches laughing at times.
5* thumbs up from me
