What good is a queen if she can’t protect her people?

When Ruby Black was dragged into the centre of a war between powerful Elemental Houses, she faced a fight for survival with her very life on the line. Now, the war is over; shattering the Sword of Enuma into fragments and bestowing them equally among the Houses, Ruby herself was the architect of that peace. More than that though, she is Queen, elected and protected by the Elemental deities she once feared.

But peace is a fragile thing, and when the sword fragments begin vanishing from under the noses of the Great Houses, the threat of war looms once more. The pieces must be found, but with the only clue being a series of cryptic symbols found at the scene of each theft, she’ll need all the help she can get.

Dark forces are moving in the shadows, and they threaten to bring all she has worked for crashing down.

If a queen cannot rule, chaos will reign in her place.

This is a must read! The cliffhanger at the end will leave you wanting the third book asap.

The relationships get more complicated, the weight on responsibilities increase, and the bad guys get more + more interesting. If you liked the narrative on AetherBorn, AetherQueen will just give you chills.

The sequel to AetherBorn picks up essentially where the first novel left off. Ruby, now leading the Elementals and spurring the reunification of the Houses, uncovers a new threat that puts the Houses at risk.

I found this novel to be a tighter and more satisfying read than the first installment. The pacing felt much more consistent throughout the novel and was well-executed. I found the new elements of world-building to be promising, but not as clear to me as I would have liked. Having said that, these elements are likewise murky to Ruby (whose perspective the reader follows), so this is more of an observation than a criticism. (I didn't have the feeling that Ruby was misleading or unreliable in recounting her understanding of these new elements).

The character development was also much stronger in this second novel, with Ruby having grown more into her own as a character. There are some elements that I found stretched credulity (her role being universally accepted despite her age, for one thing). I also found that other main characters (particularly Liam) read as flat to me. I think there's a lot of potential to develop the other important people in Ruby's life into rich characters, and that wasn't realised for me.

When the villain is revealed, I found it to be a let-down. This character also had the potential to be complex and interesting, and I didn't feel that this was achieved.

The editing is the one element that I found lacked more in the second novel than the first. There were problems with verb tense, possessives, and incorrect words being used (yield instead of wield, for example). I think another pass would really help tidy this up.

Overall, I do enjoy the story, and I think there are some unique elements in the way the universe works. I look forward to continuing on in the series.

Just as the Elemental Elders have settled their differences and Ruby has taken over as AetherQueem, mysterious problems start happening. As part of the Elemental pact, the Elders agreed to split the sword into parts for each of the Elemental groups and a stone for Ruby. The Elders each kept theirs in a well guarded safe known only to them, and yet, each of their parts of the sword are mysteriously disappearing. After a date with Liam, Ruby realizes she left her phone with him, and goes out late at night to get it. In the alley behind her apartment, she is attacked by a girl who looks just like her and discovers that other Aetherborns exist.

Learning that other Aetherborns exist rock Ruby and the Elementals. No one had any idea that more than one Aetherborn existed at a time. This is definitely a story of what you don’t know could hurt you. The ups and downs of how the Elementals and Aetherborns fight for supremacy or co-existence is an entertaining page turner.

I adored A.N. Sage’s AerherBorn (separately reviewed) so much that I rushed to download AetherQueen and AetherBlood, books 2 and 3 in her The AetherBorn Saga, and then addictively read them through the night. It’s 3:30am and my sweetie has been merrily snoring for hours (though he denies it) and I’m exhausted - but it was more than worth doing. These addictive books were wonderfully told, making great use of (and adding to) the world-building and story arc start in book 1, and each bring superbly written and a total fun-blast to read. I cannot recommend these books highly enough.

*spoilerish*

I enjoyed this fast-paced, magical, fantasy-filled sequel to AetherBorn. Although it would have been nice for Ruby and Jake to get to be friends again, at least they seem to be heading in the right direction. There were a few other unresolved issues, but as this is a series, that almost seems to be expected. It ends in a safe-for-now situation.

Alexis Sage has again taken us on a paranormal journey into Ruby’s world where she is once again trust into a suspenseful mystery toward the truth of the Aether. This was a good addition to the “Enuma Legacies” and I can’t wait for the next book. I highly recommend this book, but make sure you read “Aether Born” first, you won’t regret it!

This is book two in the series, and you probably SHOULD read book one to be up to date. Ruby is now the AetherQueen, and mysterious things start happening.

This is a fast-paced, page-turning sci-fi/fantasy themed book. Not my normal trope, but i relaly did enjoy this!

The second book in the series gives a bit more insight into what the Aether is.
Ruby continues to learn to control her powers despite being ignorant of what they are about.
A solid story line with little diversion from the central plot.
A few twists thrown in help to make Ruby's confusion believable.
Ends with a continuance factor so hoping the ensuing books are equally entertaining or better.

An exciting continuation to Ruby's story! It's great to see how she becomes more confident in her powers and more wise as a ruler as she faces her enemies. Staying true to her heart, this is a journey of incredible changes for our protagonist. I really enjoyed this story, and will definitely keep reading to the very end!
