Dr Anil Lamba's bestselling book Romancing the Balance Sheet now comes in a compact travel edition. Meant for the On-the-Go reader, this book is your handy companion when it comes to understanding financial management. A result of the thousands of requests that Dr Lamba receives from the existing readers of Romancing the Balance Sheet, this book covers all topics from the main book, albeit in an abridged form. Presented in a manner that is long enough to cover the topic and short enough to carry with ease.
I would have given five stars to this book if I had read it four years back when I was in 11th standard. But now as a CA final student, I already knew all these things written in it.
So this book is definitely not for the people from commerce backgrounds but it is for all the other people who are afraid of the financial technologies.
This compact book with top notch design of font and color (unfortunately rare in Indian books by any publisher including global brands) is a brilliant distillation of the basics of reading the three financial statements: balance sheet, P&L, cash flow. In a step-by-step fashion, master financial educator Anil Lamba helps the reader understand the logic behind the sections of financial statements, how to assess the health of a business, and how to manage a business enterprise.
This book is supposed to be a travel edition of the original bestseller by the author titled, "Romancing the Balance Sheet". I have heard strong recommendations for that book but never got to read it. Having a relevant educational background, my positive reaction to this book is based less on information obtained and more on the superb teaching methodology and style and presentation. The book almost perfectly achieves its intention to make finance (not accounting) less intimidating for absolute novices. Perhaps a few beginners might still find the crisp summaries and graded examples a bit heavy and new. But the book is sure to make such readers seek out the original bigger book that I guess would have more examples and explanations.
Financial literacy for people in business or wanting to invest in equity markets. Very simplified and easy to grasp
+ The two rule evaluation: ROI based on cost of capital & Profit understanding based on short-term & long-term inflows and outflows were awesome + Concepts of WACC, understanding Profit in context of volume of sales i.e. fixed and variable costs, evaluating businesses based on concept of leverage +Author's ability to change perspectives to give a clarity in narration was refreshing
- The book could have been more. Felt as if it ended abruptly
A must read for everyone regardless of the profession you are in. I had been looking at balance sheets for the past three years, but only after reading this book have I really understood it. Although I am from a non finance background, the language is such that anyone with basic education can understand it.
It is very simply written and explained. All the stars for writing finance in words and proses. Perfectly done! Although this book is primarily for non-finance people. To those who have no to very little knowledge of finance, go for it. You'll lear a lot!
As somebody who is a noob when it comes to financial management. This book was the perfect foot in the door. Got me excited to read the full version and even follow more of Mr. Lamba's work!
Must read for anyone who needs insight into financial management.
great book, really have some wonderful concepts in an easy format, anil lamba wrote this book in 10 days. i just wonder how smart and financially literate he must be. one of the best books i have come across
For a non-finance person like me, I cannot think of a better book than this. The whole book is like a note. Every single word is important. Written in so simple words that anyone can understand.
Great book for starters in this field. Language used is so simple and effective.can be read in a weeks time , can be revised and applied day to day in your work. Hopefully I am able to apply things I learnt from this good book.
This is one of the most important books in my bookshelf. It explains concepts very neatly and convinces that the content is much more than the title. Must read book for any business owner.
