Gill Andrews is a conversion optimization specialist, copywriter, and web consultant who helps service providers turn their underperforming business websites into slick lead-generating machines.
When she’s not writing copy or auditing websites, she’s teaching other business owners—especially those who take care of their websites themselves—how to make their websites work better.
Thanks Gill, far and away one of the best books I've read on web copy and UX design principles (although some are common sense, we still get caught out trying to overdesign sometimes!).
I love the format - all bite sized actionable tips which can be implemented immediately.
Highly recommended if you see a freelancer or within an agency in the web design or copywriting space.
One of the most useful and actionable books in a bite-size tweaks
I loved this book. It's a quick read, short chapters that have a practical advice with no fluff or buzz words. The author made a great effort to compress a lot of experience in such hany guide.
I recommend this book to marketers and business owners to improve their websites to their next level.
Side note, as the chapters are short and usually separated advice, so I read this whole book in my short waiting times (dead small times)! Imagine In 5 min or less you read a complete advice to implement on your website.
The main disadvantage from my view is the topics are not in specific category order, I wished to see the 1st 20 tips is in copywriting. The 2nd 30 tips in design ...etc. by that readers can find and fix related issues quickly. However, currently the book has an index of the topics at the end.
I've been browsing books on website design for the past week, and this is the only one I found worth keeping. Andrews' 100 pithy suggestions are relevant for any site, and she elaborates just enough to explain why they work.
I will be downloading her checklist to keep a summary close at hand as I work on creating my new website.
A really useful book which has made writing copy for my website and making sure it is user friendly. The book is written in the style that Gill suggests you use to write web copy - clear, to the point and with clear purpose.
...and anyone else responsible for their business website. Actionable, reader-friendly and fun - if you like working on your website but you need help, start with this book before you hire anyone to help you.
This is one of my favourite books. In fact, I have purchased multiple copies and send it to clients and friends who are creating new websites or updating existing ones. This is a 100% practical, easy-to-read book that is guaranteed to help you improve the user experience and impact of your website.
This books is timeless! Author is not telling you last trends in web design and website optimization but giving you 100 bite sized advice how to make your website convert more. Must read for any business owner!
As a newbie to the field, I gained a world of wisdom from this book, it should be on every web designers bookshelf! The ultimate website building book :)
I can strongly recommend "Making your website work" for everyone who would like to revamp his website or needs inspiration on applying changes. It is an incredible book and I read it within 3 days. The way Gill structured the book, the way she wrote the different chapters and surly its content is great. The tips are very useful and easily to apply. I revamped my website and will see what happens now.
