Rate this book

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Welcome to Reindeer Falls.

Grab a mug of hot cocoa and a comfortable chair and enjoy all three novellas in the Reindeer Falls Collection in one volume. This bundled version also includes nine holiday recipes inspired from the series!

The Boss Who Stole Christmas, Book 1

Dear Santa,
Please bring me a new boss for Christmas. Mine is the worst. The worst, hidden in a six foot tall package of male perfection. It’d be easier if he looked like an old Scrooge, wouldn’t it? Nick Saint-Croix doesn’t look like an old scrooge. He’s hot as-Um, never mind. Just bring me a new boss. Please.
Sincerely, Holly Winter

If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread, Book 2

Dear Santa,
I do not want Keller James for Christmas. I will not fall for him, no matter how charming or irresistible or famous he is. I will not be swayed by his skills in the kitchen or by his British accent. I’m going to win the Great Gingerbread Bake Off and no one is going to stand in my way. Not even Keller. All kisses are off. I mean all bets. All bets are off. And all his clothes. Grr, never mind. I’ll figure this out myself.
XOXO, Ginger Winter

The One Night Stand Before Christmas, Book 3

Dear Santa,
Please stop by my house and pick up your suit. If you thought I was going to run it to the dry cleaners for you after you left it on my bedroom floor, you’ve got another thought coming.
Best, Noel Winter

This month I decided I would only read Christmas themed books and so far I did well, but after this one right here I am officially done. It's not that it was bad per se, but it wasn't great either. Full of clichés, silly and immature characters and surprisingly, not christmasy enough.

There are three different stories in The Reindeer Falls Collection and each focuses on one Winter sister.
The first story was the one that convinced me to pick it up, because part of it takes place in the city I currently live in (Nuremberg, Germany). On one hand, it was really nice to read about places I've known my whole life and places I see almost every day. But on the other hand, there was some weird stuff happening, like for example there's a scene where the MC, Holly Winter, gets fingered on a church balcony, by none other than her boss 😐🤦‍♀️😂 They came to Nuremberg on a business trip, while also visiting the Christmas Market, where they fall in love. The romance part was just meh for me.

Story number two was the one that annoyed me the most and the one that basically ruined the whole thing for me.
First off, the name of the MC is Ginger Spice Winter. Nope, I am not kidding you. How ridiculous is that? Anyway, Ginger is a baker who is participating in a holiday baking contest, where she meets and falls for a celebrity chef.
Thing is.. she might just be the silliest and most immature character I have ever read about. Dare I compare her to Nora from Hush Hush, and she was a special kind of stupid.
Ginger says things like "sex stuff" instead of just saying sex and event though she's a woman in her late twenties, she acts and thinks like a horny virgin school girl, if that makes any sense. I really disliked her constant whining.

And story number 3 is about Noelle Winter, the third sister, who one day ends up having a one night stand with Santa. She confuses him with someone else and thinks they shouldn't see each other again, but as fate would have it, he's actually the guy she's supposed to end up with.

Had there been more about the sisters and their relationship, more Christmas cheer or simply more than just the romance and "sex stuff", this might have been better. Altogether, an average read.

This set was so cute!! I read the books when they came out and I couldn't resist getting the audiobook to listen to them all over again. I'm a huge fan of Christmas and this town just sounds like a magical place where I want to live. I also want to be best friends to all three sisters, Holly, Ginger and Noel because they all sound like they would be so much fun. The guys these three fell for are just a bonus!

4 'Christmas at Reindeer Falls' Stars!

It seems I am very much in the mood for some Christmas stories lately! I thoroughly enjoy them when the mood strikes me and the three short stories in the Reindeer Falls Collection did not disappoint me. I loved the Winter sisters, they are so hilarious and unique. Each story was different, super funny and entertaining. I loved the heroes too and how swoony and sexy they were! I specially enjoyed the second book but I did really enjoy the whole collection. Jana Aston is so good at romcoms and mixing it with a holiday theme was a great idea!

The Boss Who Stole Christmas - 4 'My hot Grinch boss' Stars!
If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread - 4.5 'Trust the magic' Stars!
The One Night Stand Before Christmas - 3.5-4 'Tell me a secret' Stars!

I really loved this interlocking series of standalone holiday novellas. Very cute, and laugh-out-loud funny in places. Really great for holiday listening! And now I have finished my book challenge for the year! (But I'm going to keep going.)

I’m not a fan of novellas, but these were super FUN to listen to and who doesn’t love Christmas theme books!

I think what I liked most about the series is that it’s about 3 sisters and the banter was really funny and sweet.

I also believe I enjoyed the book a lot more because I listened to them via audio and who doesn’t like to listen to Erin Mallon’s voice.

I’ve been wanting to read this series since it was first announced and now I was finally able to I’m in awe. I love Christmas so much and Jana just rocked these beauties.

ARC generously provided in exchange for an honest review

Reading these books have been the highlight of my week. They’re fun, short and absolutely addictive. I went in expecting a certain thing and came out with a story completely different and I loved that so much.

The Boss Who Stoke Christmas

Holly and Nick were amazing. I’m a sucker for an office romance. Their story was fun and so damn hot. Their relationship and their chemistry is off the charts hot and they leave you needing more.

If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread

Ginger and Keller were instant. The friendship from their first meet was cute. I loved how they interacted and I loved how they both helped each other in different ways. They bring the best out in each other and they’re so damn adorable together. I loved the baking part of this story too, it’s been so much fun to read.

The One Night Stand Before Christmas

Holly and Teddy are so adorable it hurts. I love how fun and feisty Holly is and how adorable and loving teddy is. I loved that their story was different and I loved how everything played out. This one was by far my favourite from this series.

It’s been an absolute honour reading and reviewing these. Jana did an incredible job turning these sisters romances into books. They’re short, fun and sexy and don’t fail to make you laugh. 5 STARS for these beauties.

The Boss Who Stole Christmas

4 CROWNS

Very cute, light, fun holiday read. With a Christmas obsessed heroine and a seemingly grinch-esque boss, Jana Aston’s new holiday novella takes a sweet journey through romantic holiday.

Both characters are extremely likable, and the heroine has the Christmas jokes (even though a tad corny at times). This is a hit of steam when they finally connect, and the plot, while predictable was very entertaining.

The narrator is wonderful, and I enjoyed listening to this one. Definitely a good holiday read.

If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread

4 CROWNS

Another cute, fun, and low angst holiday novella. It really is a great holiday read.

I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, and the continuation of the quirky and outlandish holiday life that these sisters have.

I’m a huge fan of the food network baking shows so I loved that component of the story, and the couple in this one was very cute.

The gingerbread theme ran through the whole story, and I enjoyed the overall story. There just isn’t a ton of surprises or conflict in them, but it is a novella and a holiday one at that so it isn’t unexpected.

The One Night Stand Before Christmas

4 CROWNS

Super quick, like shorter than the previous two, but still funny and Christmassy.

I enjoyed the premise. I don’t know that I loved he lied about who he was and the events that occurred around his obscure identity, but is was still charming.

Reindeer Falls is certainly that idyllic community, and this group of sisters was charming with the zealous love of all things Christmas.

Holiday fun for all, with different tropes. Definitely for lovers of romcom and Christmas.

I’ve decided to review The Reindeer Falls Collection separately—unlike usual, where I would just copy the reviews of each book with a quick sum-up—because I feel the need to explain my low ratings.
As a fan of Jana Aston, I was sorely disappointed with how half-assed these books were. If you asked me before, I would tell you that she was one of my authors with the least chance of getting two-or-lower-star rating. But here we are…
The stories seemed to be based on Christmas and Christmas only. Other stuff (even main characters) were just complements to it and not a well-written ones either. This is one of the reason why I don’t prefer to read Christmas or any other holiday-themed stories, because many authors (or even TV screenwriters) just use holidays as an excuse for lazy writing, as in “let’s just slap a Christmas stamp on this shit and people will read/watch it and love it” writing.
But back to this collection… Were those stories just a bonus one-scene canapés, just to tide us over while waiting for another book of hers, I’d go for it and I bet I would love it, the sisters were the perfect material for it. The added length to their “love-stories” just bred boredom and blandness, and to repeat myself from one of reviews, a horrible, horrible predictability.
Then, to top it all, I guess, the epilogue came with the ultimate happy ending, because readers would be so disappointed if even one of those sisters was left unmarried, albeit in happy relationship.
This series left a bitter taste in my mouth, not sure if bitter can be described as typical one for Christmas.

The very best part of this collection of three short stories is Erin Mallon's phenomenal narration. She does an AMAZING job narrating the first person narration of each sister who takes the lead in these stories. It was a delight to listen to her, and I think that she hit the mood of these stories perfectly. As for the stories themselves ... well, they weren't all that fantastic. The major issue with short romantic stories is that they are short. It's hard to write a romantic short story that manages to tell a complete story arc where a couple can begin to fall in love without it seeming rushed or incomplete. In each of the three stories in The Reindeer Falls Collection Jana Aston attempts to get each couple from just meeting to Happily Ever After, all within a few short days. How can they do this so quickly? Well, it appears that the way to their hearts is entirely physical, because almost the entirety of the stories concentrates on the physical chemistry between the romantic leads. That's it. There is nothing that indicates the growth of an emotional attachment other than various proclamations about growing feelings. How could there be any growth? The entire story takes place over a couple of days during the Christmas season. Growing physical chemistry makes sense, but deep emotional attachment? Unlikely. So I guess I would say that if you are looking for stories about amazing physical chemistry found during the Christmas season, this might be the book for you. But if you want anything deeper, look elsewhere. The problem with these stories is that Jana Aston wants to have it all ... finding perfect HEAs for all her heroines at breakneck speed. It didn't work. The stories ended up feeling superficial and incomplete. But they were cute(ish). I think I felt the cuteness 100% because of Erin Mallon's narration.

As for the individual stories ... The Boss Who Stole Christmas was my least favorite of the bunch. There was a bit of an ick factor for me with this one because Nick is Holly's boss, and I felt too much of a sexual harassment vibe in this one ... probably because he comes onto her seemingly out of nowhere. There is no indication that there is any emotional connection between these characters. He seems to just want a business trip hook-up. Sure, she is all happy about it because he is oh so handsome, but I wasn't feeling it. It felt wrong to me.

I think I liked If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread the best of the three. I really liked the use of the television bake-off competition as the background for this one. The main issue with this was the speed of the attachment between the two leads. I could see why they were physically attracted to each other, but why the quick jump to love and leaving everything to be together? Why do this? At that speed it seems almost stalkerish? But it was a cute story.

The One Night Stand Before Christmas was also super cute, but if you stand back for a second and think about what happened ... well, ladies I would just advise against doing this in real life. Who just drags random Santas home to their house for a holiday romp? Who does this? It's just all sorts of potential tragedy. And then to find yourself maybe in love with the guy? WHY??????? What happened in the few pages of this story to warrant those sorts of feelings? Jana Aston couldn't pull it off with a short story. It might have worked in a full-length novel, but it didn't work here.

Like I say, the book was cute, mostly. But because the author was trying to pack EVERYTHING into a short story it ended up being superficial, hoping that the physical interactions could carry it all. It didn't work for me. Overall the book gets two stars for plot, but I'll add an extra for the great audio narration which kept me listening to the end.

The Boss Who Stole Christmas, Book 1

This novella was my favorite out of the 3 sister's stories. The Boss who stole Christmas is about Holly and her Grinch of boss Nick. Nick is Holly's boss that she can't stand with a passion. She feels that Nick is the Grinch that is trying to steal her Christmas when he makes her go on a business trip to Germany for research. However this business trip is about to turn both of lives upside down and it all starts on the balcony of a church. Talk about a one way ticket to the naughty list.

If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread, Book 2

This book is about Holly's sister Ginger. If you've read The Boss who stole Christmas you know that Ginger is in the Reindeer Falls Gingerbread baking contest and is going against her celebrity crush Keller James. Ginger has promised herself that she needs to stay away from all distractions and that includes Keller. That however is easier said than done when Keller doesn't pull any punches when trying to get closer to Ginger. This story was just so cute.

The One Night Stand Before Christmas, Book 3

The one night stand before Christmas is Noel's story. This story had me cracking up. I mean come on.... a one night stand with Santa and a case of mistaken identity, you can't go wrong her.

Me encanta Reindeer Falls ♥

You guys, this book had me dying laughing! In the first one, The Boss Who Stole Christmas, it started with all of her excuses to try to get out of going out of town with her boss! Including her made up boyfriend, Santana. And then, oh my gosh, Holly's advent calendar! Not countdown to dick-mas as her sisters called it, but soon she was calling it. Plus the little snippet about if there was room at the Vagina Inn? I was laughing so hard! I have to say before I go any further, this was my favorite of all the stories, and I was a little disappointed we didn't get as much with Holly in the other two stories, although it makes sense since they were all taking place pretty much over the same few weeks, and Holly was in Nuremberg with Nick for a week of that time.

I have to say I liked the name of the character in the second book, If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread, the best, Ginger Spice. We got a tiny bit of a glimpse of this story in the first book. While this story I didn't love as much as the first one, this is the story that convinced me to reach out and purchase the anthology with all three stories from the author. You see, there are many different baked goods discussed in this story, I mean it is about a baking contest. And I wanted to have the recipes! When I reached out to the author about it, she said that I needed the actual written copy, because obviously they won't put recipes in an audiobook. Yeah, yeah, I could have just purchased the ebook, but no, I want a physical copy if I'm going to buy a book for recipes. The other thing I loved about Ginger, besides the yummy sounding baked goods, was her adorable way of cursing. I tend to do that a lot, not that I never use the actual bad words, but for the longest time I didn't, and I still don't feel right using that kind of language in front of people, I'm guessing it's my education career.

I also liked Noel's story, The One Night Stand Before Christmas, because she had some great quotes that totally are my kind of quotes. The being alone for a long time, being the oldest, etc. It was fun getting to hear a little bit about the other sisters, just like the second book, we got more of just Noel and Ginger, because as I mentioned, Holly was out of the country. The one night stand was perfect. Even though Noel wasn't quite sure about Teddy, I was pretty sure of who he was when she met him. But I didn't see the name thing the way it turned out. I also loved that the elderly lady Noel was trying to set up was kind of playing her. The limited edition coupon bit was hilarious!

Overall, all three books were hilarious, you can see even though I might not have given them all 5 stars, the other two were 4.5.

3.5 🌟

Ratings
Story - 4.25 stars (Book 1); 5 stars (Book 2); 4.5 stars (Book 3)

The Boss Who Stole Christmas (Book 1) was a cute and quick start to the incredible timing of all 3 quirky and talented Winter sisters falling in love concurrently in Reindeer Falls with equally interesting and attractive heroes.

I think If You Give a Jerk a Gingerbread (Book 2) was my top favorite of the 3 love stories because Keller James was British. I'm a sucker for a British hero, ha ha!

I also loved that Ginger's love story, The One Night Stand Before Christmas (Book 3) , covered a longer duration and also included an update on her sisters' love stories.

This was such a cute, light-heated, and thoroughly entertaining Christmas themed novella bundle, especially narrated by Erin Mallon, one of my very top favorite narrators. I never know exactly how to rate novellas since they are so much shorter than your average full length novel.

Performance by Erin Mallon - 5 stars!
Erin Mallon always knocks the ball out of the park for me. She has great timing and delivery especially for humorous moments. I have yet to be disappointed with her vocal acting and characterizations. She made each of the sisters' love story distinct with their own personality highlighted.

Bravo yet again!

Final Thoughts:
I really need to discuss the 3 stories with my book buddy reading partner, Beth S. who also read the audiobook format. Was she as charmed and entertained all throughout as I was? I'm curious to see what she liked or disliked if anything and which love story was her favorite.

Three 5⭐ holiday treats in one. You can't beat that! Jana Aston's books always put a smile on my face. Like a nice mug of gluhwein. Three HEAs for three merry sisters. These stories are really sweet. Like a mug of gluhwein. But in classic Jana style the sexiness is turned WAY UP. Super steamy. Like a mug of gluhwein. The narration is superb and these audiobooks are the perfect accompaniment to holiday errands and bustling about in your car. Unlike gluhwein. So if you're looking for an audiobook that's better than gluhwein to make your holidays merry, look no further!

**Cut to Jana Aston using "Better than gluhwein!" as her paperback cover review. #believeittoachieveit

3.5 stars for this series of novellas. They are all really cute and sweet, but I wish they had a bit more substance. The first was my favorite but the second two were just a little more “love at first sight” than I typically prefer. Still, these are a fun holiday read. Like a hallmark movie with the sex scenes. 🥳

I am also a little obsessed with listening for all the references to Frankenmuth, MI. Now I’m dying to go back there and have a chicken dinner.

Q: Is there anything better than a collection of stories by one of your favorite answers?
A: No!
Jana Aston’s “The Reindeer Falls” Collection contains three fantastic novella length stories featuring the Winter sisters. Each story is fantastic and features a sweet, sassy, spunky and sexy heroine and their hot, sexy, alpha male counterparts. A pleasure to read from start to finish.

“The Boss Who Stole Christmas” had me rolling on the floor. Holly is a cracker and every thought, word and or action that she had, had me laughing out loud. Meanwhile Nick is strong, sexy, bossy and Grinchy - make me swoon. Their chemistry is hot and their happily ever after sexily adorable. Loved this short story.

“If You Give A Jerk A Gingerbread “ is another laugh out loud swoon fest. Ginger is Hilarious with a capital ‘H’ and Keller is to die for, when these two bakers meet it is love at first cookie. Their attraction jumps off the page and you can’t help but fall in love with them, their baking shenanigans their Christmas banter.

“The One Night Stand Before Christmas “ is Noel and Theo’s love story. It’s a case of at the right place at the right time for both of them. Their chemistry is off the charts and gets them placed permanently on Santa’s naughty list and what an utterly amazing place it is to be. A fitting end to the Winter sister’s trilogy.

TBR this fantastic Holiday Collection and enjoy the magic that is Reindeer Falls. Merry Christmas everyone. (I read an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review).
