Christmas bites this year for vampire slayer Violetta.
When her brother is injured by a vampire gang, she must pick up the stake to avenge her family. The target: Lee Desmond, billionaire CEO of Desmond Industries and secret vampire lord of Briar City. She poses as his new assistant in order to infiltrate. This should be pretty straightforward, except now she has to divide her time between planning his assassination and fancy Christmas party.
Lee senses something different about his assistant. Violetta isn't intimidated by him. She also happens to send his blood racing, a feat no human woman has ever done in his 300 years of existence. He has little time to spend under the mistletoe with Violetta, but her body and blood call out to him. Can he unwrap the mystery surrounding her or will he be strung up like a box of lights this holiday season?
Violetta was tasked with the challenge of taking out the up and coming vampire lord, Lee (Leeland). Little did she expect that she would fall for him so quickly putting a big fat wrench in her plans. The chemistry between she and Lee was instant after their first meeting. The progression of their relationship was reasonably paced throughout the story and a joy to read.
Lee’s mother was a trip, she took to Violetta instantly.
Not so great bits:
The treatment that Violetta was given for her transparency by her brother, aunt, and uncle was disappointing. It seems like she was the only one expected to do any of the heavy lifting when it came to the actual slaying which wasn’t cool.
This story is about two people who are thrown into each other lives fueled by revenge on one side. Violetta and Lee would be seen as adversaries, since she is a slayer and he is an vampire. She is to take on the task of slaying him before his coronation to become the vampire lord of the city. In doing so she gets a job as his assistant in order to get close to him to set her plan into effect on how and when she would kill him. During her interview for the job both Violetta and Lee feel this strange pull towards each other. They go through a lot when he finds out she is a slayer who was suppose to kill him.
I love paranormal romances and this book did not disappoint. Kinda invoked flashbacks from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But, it seemed to be missing information that could have rounded out the story. What was the true story behind the parents death? What was Katrins purpose? How was her brother attacked? Why were the foster parents so laser focused on Lee? Too many unanswered questions led to a 4 🌟 rating...
We’re Lee and Violetta fated to be mates , or was there just a strong attraction? How did her family react to the news that she had been changed? Violetta’s family plan to kill the alpha and all else would crash doesn’t compute for me. There was a structural organization already in place. If the head topples it could reorganize. So what was the slayer families real goal?
Wow, this is the first book I have ever read from this author but it will definitely not be the only one, I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this world. I can't wait to read more about Violetta and Lee, and what happenes in their world as they become vampire King and Queen!
This was another good holiday read from this series. I had just one issue with this story. The author did keep her time of day right, other than that, it was a good holiday read. Rated: 4.7
Cool story! Violetta is like an intrepid Black Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Lee reminds me of Eric Northman from HBO’s “True Blood”, all broody and autocratic. Great read!
I have read a few Vampire books but this one I liked. The portrayal of Vampires as warm blooded eating food more human but with extra extra special powers is more palpable to me. I will look for more from this author.
A very good book with the intensity to keep your interest. I truly enjoyed Violetta and Desmond interest for each other and how their connection became a unbreakable bond.
I enjoyed this story. Violetta and Lee are good characters with good chemistry . I like Lee's mother who liked to have the latest decorating trends in her castle. This is an unusual Christmas story.
I did finish it, it's intense and a bit gory. I think it does a good job establishing the vampire world blending with the humans but not really romantic enough to outweigh all the vampire stuff.
I know if was a short story but it felt rushed. Like an outline of what could have been a good short read. Liked the premise and the concept but not the execution.
