The Forfeit
Every superpower on the face of the Earth has simultaneously surrendered. The survivors of the attacks would come to know this day as The Forfeit. The day humanity lost its ability, and its will, to fight back. Most had no idea they’d submitted to demons, not that it would have mattered. The Fallen walked away with only a single blemish that day. Rescue One, comprised largely of Sentinels, became the only known instance of humanity repelling their attacks. I know this because I was there. I led them, and now I lead the resistance, but that is another story.
The survivors often ask how AJ Chambers, a seventeen-year-old high school student, came to be the world’s last and only hope. I’ll never forget the day it began.
