Family is all that matters when friend becomes foe—and the stakes are survival. The world has become a dangerous place for Shane McDonald and his family since the solar storm wiped out the power grid. Tensions flare when it grows clear the dire situation will be prolonged and most are ill-prepared. Even the friendly small town of his prepper mother-in-law has drawn unwanted attention as word gets around about sharing their supply stores. And strangers begin to infiltrate the once peaceful Georgia community. All Shane can think about is where his wife and son ended up in all the chaos as the hours stretch into days since they last communicated. Jodi is far too trusting a soul, her desire to help the downtrodden a dangerous commodity among desperate and increasingly hostile citizens. But Jodi isn’t without resources when push comes to shove. When her son and cancer-stricken brother come under attack, she finds the strength to do what’s necessary to ensure their safety—and inadvertently draws the attention of a menacing gang. Now they must stay one step ahead of their pursuers in a race to reunite with family. Before all hell rains down on them.
Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.
Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"
It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.
I have now read quite a few books and even full series by Grace Hamilton and have to say so far, I have enjoyed them all, some of them I have adored, and I do recommend this author if asked for recommendations in the post-apocalyptic genre. After reading so many of her books I have read a little about the author, though Grace Hamilton is a pen name this female author is a prepper in real-life so the situations and actions of the characters within her stories are so realistic and believable. As a reader you are so drawn into the book you feel like you are along side the characters and you really want the good guys to win and see the demise of the bad guys! After reading and loving Crumbling World, the first book in the Surviving The End series I had put this one straight on to my “must read” list. After reading the book, I would say that the cover depicts Jodi, her brother Mike, who is still suffering the consequences of his recent last chemotherapy treatment and Jodi’s teenaged son who seems to have aged and be wise beyond his years. The cover could easily be a scene within the book. I think the cover goes well with the rest of the series covers too, making them look very cohesive as a series.
This book picks up from where Crumbling World ended with Jodi, Mike and Owen still struggling to get to what they consider the relative safety of her prepper mother’s home in Georgia. It’s dangerous and becoming increasingly difficult travelling. There are abandoned cars and small settlements seem to be setting up anywhere and everywhere. Sadly, not everyone is out to help each other, there are plenty of unscrupulous, armed, angry people out just for themselves who are prepared to do whatever is necessary to take what someone else has if they decide they want it. Jodi is injured, though thinks it is quite ironic that she would have thought getting shot would be the worst pain ever. Jodi is now discovering that the worst pain comes afterwards when trying to function in a world that appears to have gone mad. Mike is still suffering side effects from his chemotherapy which is making progress slower as they keep having to stop for him to rest. There are times in this book where he tells them to leave him behind as he is well aware the longer, they take to get to his mothers the worse the world seems to be becoming and the more danger they are in. However, of course nether his sister Jodi nor his nephew Owen will hear of it. As in the first book, Owen takes on more and more responsibility and Jodi has to reluctantly allow him to do so, as because of her injuries she herself is struggling.
One of Beth’s neighbours quickly realises that Beth is more prepared for the shops to be closed and the world they now find themselves in. Beth is in her mind just helping out a neighbour when she provides her lonely neighbour with some food. Unfortunately, this neighbour then does nothing to help her own situation and begins a pattern of turning up for hand-outs of supplies. Shane attempts to warn Beth that this behaviour from her neighbour will not stop and the neighbour will talk and attract others looking for an easier way to get food and supplies than looking for themselves. He implies the supplies should be kept for their family. The atmosphere becomes quite tense between Beth and Shane but Beth points out she doesn’t know Corbin but she has welcomed him to their families and is sharing their food etc and then goes on to say she is the one who has prepared for such an incident and they are in her home so it is up to her who she shares supplies with. Shane has little choice but to let the incidents go but Beth does come to realise she should have listened to Shanes advice earlier when the situation worsens.
Things go from bad to worse for Jodi, Mike and Owen when they finally find a fairly reliable source of transport and it is taken away from them. Not only that the biker gang leader decides he is going to take Jodi with him and his men too. All Mike & Owen can do is watch as she is taken from them, though they do go in search of her as soon as they find a quicker way of travelling themselves.
We see more characters that are not the McDonald family in this book. The local Sheriff, and then there’s the ever in demand Doctor. Luckily the family have a couple of vehicles at their disposal for now but life is nothing like it was before and it looks like it may never be the same again. Shane does coerce and cajole Beth into allowing him and Corbin to put up a high fence around their property. I have decided my initial wariness of Corbin was unfounded and he is really integrating into the McDonald family. I think Corbin and Owen are becoming form friends, especially when Corbin teaches Owen how to safely use a gun. Which is something Corbin tells Shane he thinks everyone should be able to do. Violet is feeling increasingly side lined and feels she is pushed to stay behind from any ventures out because of her disability but it’s during one of those times that she ends up using a newly acquired skill to help save herself and her family. Then the search for a doctor begins and the treatment for injuries have had to resort back to somewhat old school methods. The characters in this series are rapidly becoming aware that what was once perhaps a small injury and a quick solution of antibiotics or a small operations can now mean an infection or death.
It’s also decided that they should have some sort of meeting somewhere to see who is still in the area and if they can come together as a community in attempt to re-build and coexist peacefully. The Sheriff, James, takes the lead and he goes along with Shane to the high school when its noticed that there are lights on inside. What they find inside is mayhem, graffiti, food strewn around and basically kids doing whatever they want running around. James and Shane eventually get some order and send kids off in groups that live nearby to go to their homes and see if their parents are there. Though as a reader and as a parent like Shane & James I found it hard to think that in such a catastrophe that parents had not shown up at the school in search of their children. The few kids left behind who know their parents are out of state somewhere and no one will be at home with them are taken back to Beth’s house. Then it’s Beth’s turn to rise her eyebrows at Shane bringing in more mouths to feed. As much as he tries to put his only family first, he finds it impossible to turn his back on children in need of shelter, food and protection.
As with Crumbling World I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, in fact I think I enjoyed it more. It has now become apparent that there is going to be no easy fix for the power outage, the shops are not going to be re-stocked anytime soon, and there is no police force or army that is imminently going to come to their rescue either. It seems word has got out that Beth has plenty of food etc, so what started out as a safety net for her family and a few friends is soon becoming somewhat of a target on their backs.
My immediate thoughts on finishing reading this book were Wow! What a fantastic second instalment in an already brilliant series. I read bk1 & bk2 back to back and if I had the next one now despite it being 11pm I would be starting to read it now!
To sum up this book has great world building, with characters that you grow almost immediately attached to. Then these characters end up in the middle of some really edge of your seat suspense and action. I am certainly eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series. (New World). This really is addictive, nail biting, edge of your seat stuff happening to some great realistic characters that you could honestly imagine being friends with, and/or living next door to.
This is book two in the Surviving the End series and continues the story of the McDonald family. They have nearly all made it to the safety of Jodi’s mum’s house in a small community outside of the larger cities. Shane and his blind daughter Violet and her service dog Ruby have made it safely. Followed days later by Jodi’s brother Mike, who has just had his last chemo treatment when the disaster started, and her son Owen. Unfortunately they have been separated from Jodi, when they were attacked by a motorcycle gang. Everything they had was taken and the four thugs took Jodi away, leaving Mike and Owen to try to follow along or make it to safety.
Beth’s home is now being made into a fortress, but some in the community are jealous and start making trouble about the amount of food Beth may or may not have stashed in her home. The small community has expanded hugely with a large tent city, inhabited by those left stranded when the disaster hit and being made welcome by the town’s mayor, Frank! Most of these strangers are doing nothing to help, themselves or others and still expect to be fed by the town. Violet tries to ask the Mayor to allow a new planting area in the park to grow food for all these extra people, but is mostly ignored.
Jodi is now in a situation that could go bad very quickly and she has to rely on all of her persistence and do what is necessary to survive. What she does next could very well bring the vengeance of a much larger part of the motorcycle gang to seek out her and her family. If that happens, then the outcome will be deadly on all sides. Shane heads out to look for her with James, the local sheriff and friend of Beth. But both of them and Jodi must evaded the remaining bikers coming after her, before all hell falls upon them.
A tale of survival against the odds, lots of difficult situations to be overcome and the desperation of those unable or unwilling to help themselves, who are struggling to find food. Where this pushes many people is far from what their normal behaviour, pre disaster, would have been, but this shows how human beings can revert to their most base of instincts and behaviours, often not in a nice way! Another great read in this series and there is still more action to come. I have definitely found another author to follow and look forward to reading more of this author’s books in the future. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Fallen World is the second book in the Surviving the End series by Grace Hamilton. Fallen World picks up where the first book Crumbling World left off. Fallen World pulled me deep into its world just like Crumbling World did. I couldn’t take my eyes off the page once I began reading.
Shane and Violet have made it safely to Beth’s. Jodi, Owen, and Mike are still on the road trying to make their way there. Jodi, Mike, and Owen run into a biker gang and are separated when the gang takes Jodi with them. Mike and Owen try their best to follow her. When they can't find her they do as Jodi would want them to do and go on to Beth’s. Later after they arrive and let them know what happened to Jodi Shane and James go looking for her.
It is a new world now and many bad people out there think it is ok to take whatever they want from others. They don’t bother to find their supplies they would rather take it from someone else.
What a scary world it has become. The law is non-existent so the evil comes out to play. Evil that was probably already there lying dormant waiting for the right time to show its ugly face to the world. Waiting for the right time to show the world who they truly are.
Fallen World was way better than Crumbling World. The suspense ramps up more and more page after page. Fallen World kept me racing to the end to see how everything would come together. I kept rooting for Mike, Jodi, and Owen to make it to Beth’s.
The world-building is one of the best I have seen in a long time. I love this world that was created for the Surviving the End series. I can’t get enough of it and can’t wait for more. I can’t wait to dive into the next book New World in the Surviving the End series. I can’t wait to see what comes next for Shane, Jodi, Beth, Violet, Owen, Kaylee, and everyone else who has become a part of their little family.
I highly recommend Fallen World to all dystopian fans! Grab a copy of Fallen World today!
This is a great continuation of the series. I enjoyed this more than the first book although both were pretty good. The characters are in for a wild ride and this is written in the style of two storylines merging at the perfect point. You can clearly tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. You just love to hate the good guys sometimes but overall the characters are very well developed and you learn to like them as the book progresses. I will warn you, this is the middle of a series and there is a cliffhanger ending but overall I was satisfied at how the book ended and also excited to see where it goes next. The performance was consistent with the first book and followed a very similar path. I enjoyed the character voices, both male and female were done very nicely. Looking forward to the series and hopefully the narrator continues alongside with the series. Bring on book 3! I was provided a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review from audiobook boom. This in no way affect my opinion of this work.
What happens to the world when there is no more fuel, no electricity and no order? That is a scenario that you read in this story. Even though I have not read the first part, there is enough feedback to give me an idea of it. In this story it is mainly the son Owen, brother Mike and mother Jodi who are central and their return to the rest of the family. To get home they have to be tough on strangers who need their help and use their powers and brains in unforeseen situations. Jodi is abducted by 4 men on motorcycles who lay their cars and steal their gasoline. Jodi escapes her cruel fate by killing a member of the corridor. Once home, the danger is not over and even their blind daughter has to fire a shot to save the family.
An exciting book in which a lot happens. Well worth reading

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a good continuation from the last one and I am really looking forward to reading the next one. This author tells great unfit down a bowl stories and, believe it or not I have found hidden messages in them that speak to me and will speak to others if they are able to pick up on them.
I like this book because it was kind of neat to see Violet shine. Her dad had and I told you so moment. My favorite part was when Violet was brave enough to shoot Jodis kidnappers when they came into the house. I thought it was amazing. This is a good story for blind and visually impaired people to read win people are misunderstanding us. Even though it is just a fictional story it’s good to see someone that is like us shine. Maybe one day we will have a moment like this and someone will see us for The people we are.
Early on we learn that Shane and Violet find their way back to mother-in-law’s house without much more effort. Jodi, Mike, and Owen were not so lucky. Through bad luck and carelessness, our trio gets carjacked. Jodi’s luck dries up. Mike and Owen spend the rest of the night looking for Jodi. Jodi turns out to be the courageous one of the family while Mike is pretty helpless and Shane is straight-laced and wimpy for the most part. The idiotic things people do always bug me in these types of stories. Either people deny the situation that they are in or they do really stupid things. I suppose if they didn’t it wouldn’t allow for much of a story. The carjackers supply plenty of material to fulfill the rest of the volume. Hopefully, Jodi, Mike, and Owen eventually get home safely. Continuing the fight for survival, this book explodes into your mind, takes root and makes you question everything. Superbly written, this storyline will keep you glued to the pages, from start to finish. The characters are excellent; unspeakably realistic and believable. The plot continues to engage, while making certain you find it almost impossible to put the book down.
I will stand behind the four star review, recommending this book to any fan of apocalyptic, end-of-the world-as-we-know-it drama.

Amazing series, as is to be expected by Grace Hamilton. Chris Monterio did a great job narrating. The characters are always fleshed out. You can relate to them. They aren’t perfect but no human ever is. Corbin was my favorite character. Of course Beth was a close second. They were the smartest and most prepared. One mentally and one with Preps. I loved Violet too, her strength of character brought on by determination to overcome her blindness. She was a great character. Smart, strong and competent. Loved her.

All these 5 star ratings have obviously never read Franklin Horton, A. American, G. Michael Hopf or AJ Newman. I have read a couple other Grace Hamilton PA series and they weren't bad, so I'm not sure if she drank the kool-aid or what. Because there is ZERO chance the characters in this series would survive a week in a PA world. Not only are they sadly ill prepared, but they still want to face the new world with old world ways. A PA world is Darwins playground. Only the strong will survive. I'm only going to read book 3 for comic relief. Y'all do yourself a favor and read series from the authors I listed above. You'll thank me.
Fallen World is book two of Surviving The End series and picks up where book one left off. The McDonald family are separated and both groups go through so much in this book as they make their way to Jodi's mother's home where they hope to reunite and survive the end. Grace Hamilton writes these post-apocalyptic stories so well that they seem like they are really happening. Great writing, interesting characters and an ending that left me wanting more. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is book two in what is shaping up to be a wonderful series by this author who writes this genre fantastically. The author does give some back story in this book, but I think it is still enjoyed more if you have read book one prior to reading this book. It’s a great series so go ahead and grab book one as well! The characters are well rounded and perfectly suit the story and the situations they find themselves in. There’s a steady pace throughout the book and I am looking forward to the next book.

This was a really great listen - book 1 was all about set up and this develops the story and plot becomes more intense and clearer. I liked the introduction of the new characters and how the developed (this is even though in the first book I got confused with the different characters, but in this book this works so well).
The characters are now learning about the new world and working out how to resolve it. The rose coloured glasses are coming off. I am interested to see how the characters develop. Straight onto the next one
This author creates amazing worlds of post-apocalyptic horror that I absolutely get so involved in and cannot escape the world until the series ends. This is the second book in this series and it is, again, so compelling. I love these realistic characters Shane and Jodi. The story is perfectly paced and action-filled. Great read as always by this incredibly-knowledgable in apocalyptic matters author.

Let me just say the second book was better than the first so now I’m off to read number three. I’m originally from Georgia and lived in Augusta so the fact that the first part of book two originated in Augusta was a little like going home. I’ve held my breath closed my eyes and walked away from the story when it gets intense but I always go back for more. This is a great series and I can’t wait to read book three.
As with so many stories in this genre, there's a lot of contrived action arising out of stupid, unrealistic decisions made by the compelling characters in this story. Although it's open-ended, it does not end in a cliffhanger.
Again, Chris Monteiro performs this second audiobook in the series well.

This was an excellent 2nd book in a series.I enjoyed revisiting the characters and finding out how they were doing. It seems, not so good.Besides getting robbed at every turn. Our friends are getting beat up and shot!Don't worry we all learn gun safety in this book.I am looking forward to more from this series. Chris Monteiro was a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
In this small community in Georgia, following an EMP strike, confusion reigns. People want answers. Protection. Food. They think the government will help them. Some things I it's only temporary. The matron of the family is prepared. She's a preppe r and always felt the need to be self sufficient. Slowly but surely her family is preparing for a long standoff, if necessary. A believable scenario. Another excellent read in this series!
Book Review: “Fallen World: A Post-Apocalyptic CME Saga Filled With Fascinating Characters & Prepper Info (Surviving the End Book 2)” Kindle Edition by Grace Hamilton (Author) Format: Kindle Edition This is an action-filled continuation of Book One. It was fun and entertaining to read plus it has valuable prepper information. Violet remains my favorite character – a brave precocious teenager. I shall continue with Book Three tomorrow.
The McDonald family isn't complete yet. When Mike and Owen return without Jodi, Shane and Corbin take off to find her. They find Jodi in a ditch, pull her out, and take her back to Beth's. After everyone except Jodi, Violet, Kaylee, Corbin, and the two dogs leave for a Town Hall, the gang that kidnapped Jodi turns up. This story has plenty of action, ending with a cliffhanger.

Fallen World is a fantastic and descriptive story of a family who fight to be together, despite all of the obstacles in their way. When the apocalypse happens, they pull together. Details are realistic, but not overtly graphic. Can not wait for the next book.

Good read, good series so far. Grace Hamilton excellent Author of prepped and post apocalyptic books. Following on from book 1 the family together realise that lazy people expect hand outs, evil around the corners. And to expect the unexpected.
This 2nd book in the series is perfect. Its pulls things together from the first book and opens up new avenues as we anticipate the final book in the trilogy. The characters are pretty great, regular people with medical issues, drama, trauma, and more.
This is a great continuation to this exciting, well written end of the world adventure! I really enjoyed this part of the story & would recommend this writer & series to anyone that loves apocalyptic scenarios! Looking forward to more of the same from Grace Hamilton!
Fantastic post apocalyptic fiction. Corbin is my favorite character so far. Would like to read more about him. I have a feeling that bad things will happen before they are better. Looking forward to next book.
Once again this book leaves us hanging on by our seats for the next book!!! I can’t wait!! I can’t believe The twists and turns the storyline takes and continues to keep us readers all engrossed!!!

This is the second book in this series, and it is as good as the first one. Lots of action, I really like the characters, and how there are different age groups. I recommend reading this series, you won't be disappointed.
I really love the characters this author develops. The story is on point and the characters are believable. I look forward to reading each book. I received an advanced reader copy of this book. This review is strictly my own opinion. I have no relationship with the author.
