Stalked by a psychotic woman by day and haunted by a supernatural force by night, Mateo Cardenas is convinced the two have nothing to do with the new home he just moved into. Until he sees something sinister in his backyard, something that soon enters his home.
He reaches out to a psychic-medium named Eloise for help. But this isn’t an ordinary haunting. And Eloise has never encountered such a mystifying presence.
Mateo soon struggles to determine the truth from a lie and distinguish friend from foe. Because when you’re terrorized every second of every day, it’s difficult to know what’s real. And that’s a big problem when you’re the only one who can see this malicious spirit. Especially when it’ll destroy everyone until it gets what it wants!
Every book in the Sinister Spirits series stands alone, and while the narrators may change, the same characters weave in and out of every novel.
Man, I love how all those these series have the same characters!! It tells a huge, big connection through all of them! These books are awesome! On to the series!
The Malicious is definitely a Supernatural Thriller! The genre of supernatural thrillers was not on my radar until I read The Presence. That book had me on edge from beginning to end, and I was eager to read another. In The Malicious, Kirk Kilgrave took the thrills and supernatural up another level. Characters from The Presence continue their story in The Malicious. This story begins sometime after the events of The Presence.
Rosalind and Mateo are married now, and there are surprising changes in their lives. As Mateo focuses on fixing up their new home, strange things begin to happen. We find that Mateo has an ability that comes in handy as the story progresses. We also learn about Mateo's past and his family. The storyline contains some unexpected twists that keep you turning the pages. The supernatural aspects are intriguing and described in a way that makes them seem possible. There is also an interesting spiritual component.
I can describe The Malicious as a supernatural psychological suspense thriller. The mental state of Helena, the antagonist in this story, is wholly questionable. She walks a line between crazy and shrewd that frequently blurs, and with unique talents of her own, she is quite the nemesis. Not knowing what Helena will do next and how her actions will impact Mateo and Rosalind, keeps you engaged and makes for a lot of drama, chills and injects the thriller component into the story.
After reading both The Presence and The Malicious, I am eager to read Kirk Kilgrave's next book. I wonder if it will deal with the mystery of what is going on with Jocelyn? I hope to find out soon.

This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

I have read every book in this series completely out of order and they still all made sense. This series is consistently interesting and entertaining. They have a lot of the same characters but you can read any of them in any order. This latest book has a lot of twists and turns. Everyone is not who they seem and people are connected in ways you will not expect. Mateo, the main character, is a former cop and begins to see and smell things that may or may not be real. A strange woman shows up and begins to make his life incredibly difficult. Nona, one of my favorite characters, makes an appearance and is actually Mateo's grandmother. This is not for children, lots of adult stuff. Some violence but not an excessive amount.

Can be enjoyed as a standalone if you've not yet read others in this Paranormal/Supernatural series.
Rosalind and Mateo are newlyweds, happily settling in to their new home, as Branch Library Manager Rosalind strives to overcome recent ghostly experiences, and Mateo renovates while considering how to proceed after his resignation from the corrupt local police department. Unfortunately, ghostly encounters and police and personal corruption are about to intensify, and both will be in grave danger, but also in line to solve serious buried secrets and heal lesions of the heart.
This book was a little confusing. The entity appears to be the astral projection of a very bitter female psycho. While Eloise and Jacquelyn are involved, they have a new companion who is a psychic. Both Eloise and Jacquelyn seem a bit preoccupied, especially Jacquelyn. What is going on? Will all be revealed in the next book? Keep on reading!
Super creepy! This book takes stalking to a whole new level with astral projection! I don’t think I would have made the same decision as Mateo, he seems to be a nicer person. I really loved reading this and getting all paranoid and creeped out! I can’t wait for the next book!
I hope that this series continues, being as I'm obsessed with it. I'm reading them faster than they are being written which is really disappointing. Love all of the characters and storylines! Well written, I look forward to the next book!
I love this stand-alone book though it does make me want to go back and read all of the previous books. I love this book and this awesome story. I found it compelling with awesome characters.

This series just keep getting better. I like how the characters grow and evolve . With each installment the characters and their talents become developed. I look forward to the next book.
Creepy storyline with wonderful characters. This is the sixth book in the Sinister Spirits series but can be read as a standalone. This supernatural thriller kept me intrigued. This was the first book I've read by Kirk Kilgrave. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this book it gave me The Grip of It vibes. From the married couple to the haunting of them. The disappearing shadows and everything was done wonderfully. I’m volunteering to review this book. I was sent a free arc copy of it.
I stumbled onto this series when the others that I've been reading ran out of new books for a couple months. They were all enjoyable and I plan to add this author to my growing list that I follow and read regularly!
