A Flare of Sorrow

Rate this book
He failed to save them—his soulmate, his brother, her sister.
He swore to protect her.
Now he broke his promise a fourth time.

Haylie was glad her Awakening was over. She could finally handle her power, thanks to Dylan who was slowly but surely breaking through their friend zone.
And slamming into something far more intimate…
Her luck was short lived, though, when she suddenly found herself in the hands of a psychopath. Kidnapped and deceived by someone she’d thought she could trust.

Dylan was on the verge of losing his mind. The rage consuming him since his precious Natural had been snatched away under his watchful eyes was maddening.
The only thing he could do was hope. Hope of finding Haylie and getting her out of wherever the hell she was. Alive.
Because if he lost her, he would find no reason to fight through another day...

What use was all this strength if I couldn't even keep one person alive? --Dylan, a Fighter

5++ stars!

Okay guys, I've quickly become obsessed with these books. I'm constantly checking my email for updates from Elodie about release dates for upcoming books, teasers, snippets--really anything I can get my hands on regarding this series. It's just filled with such goodness that I find myself desperate for more.

FLARE OF SORROW takes place where FLARE OF POWER left off, right in the middle of Haylie's Awakening. I admit that it took me a while to get all of the terminology of the series straight--Fighter, Catcher, Watcher, Regenerator, Roe, Natural, Inferno, Glaciation, etc.--but the second novel definitely helped to clear a lot of my uncertainty.

Nevertheless, Haylie makes it through her Awakening [barely] with the help of Dylan, which only serves to further complicate their relationship and growing feelings for each other. As they turn their focus to Haylie's increased powers, they are all blindsided by a deep betrayal by one of their own. Chaos ensues and Haylie is once again lured out of the compound by the Hunters and taken to a different compound. Dylan is devastated by his lack of vigilance and sets out to find Haylie and exact revenge on their betrayer no matter the cost, while Haylie struggles to escape her captors and learn as much as she can about their nefarious plans.

This book was WILD. There was so many new things we learn, so many twisty-turns, so much action, romance, nail-biting tension that my poor heart struggled to keep up while my brain struggled to read faster. The ending was ABSOLUTE CRAZINESS!! Everything was chugging along just fine, then BAM!! all sh*t hits the fan and people are dying and Blusters are happening and then he appears--who wasn't what I was expecting--and I'm just sitting here like

Overall, this book and entire series is drop-dead gorgeous. I feel like we really get to know the characters better in this one, especially our MCs, and the plot was completely engrossing. I will definitely be rereading this one until the final book comes out, hoping all of our beloved Roes are well. Pick up this series if you haven't already!!

My Dylan, desperately searching for his beloved Natural (while still looking sexy of course)...

Haylie is still reaching for her potential even after her awakening when nothing is coming together miraculously to make her the ultimate weapon that everyone is so afraid of.At least I don't see it yet.The books are getting darker in tone which is a plus. This the third book is still a tentative 3.5/4 stars as there is a repetitiveness creeping into the dialogue from the previous two books that is unfortunate.

Wow. This book is even more proof to me why I love this author’s series and writing. It was interesting and kept me fully engaged with all the action and escalated romance between Haylie and Dylan.

I liked seeing again how some of the major events, like the Awakening, of the book were from Dylan’s perspective. It was new and exciting when his viewpoint was used during the Awakening in the very beginning of the book. Especially because most of the time in the books I’ve read, this kind of change is told completely in the girl’s viewpoint. The reader only sees the guy’s emotions and doesn’t feel them like I could.

The action was intense at times, but I enjoyed seeing how the characters handled all the challenges in front of them, especially Haylie and Dylan.

Overall, I loved this new story. It is definitely worth reading! And I can’t wait for the next and final book in the series.

Oh My Word! I've said it before and I'll say It again, Elodie has outdone herself! There were no plot issues, everything flowed so easily, and it completely enthralled me. Every word is perfectly placed to reveal so many twists and turns, I could not put it down. I literally cooked supper while reading this.

I love every single character in this series and couldn't imagine it done any dufferently. There is always a hint of steam, one that has you begging for more, this book in the series took it up a notch as Dylan and Haylie's feeling are explored more. Which is perfectly placed in this series. And well worth the wait!

This is my #1 series on my list!!!!! I cannot wait for the next! The ending had my heart beating so fast. The cliffhanger....wowza! Did not see that coming!!!!

I received an ARC for my honest review!

The best one yet!

The angst in every page of this book in the series is beyond suspenseful. I couldn't put it down. I spent three days lost in this series while I was laid up in bed from a procedure that I couldn't move from. It was great! I loved every minute of this series. Haylie and Dylan are a powerful couple for the lead roles in this series. I cannot wait for what comes next. That ending!!! I was left in utter shock. Can I have book four yet? My word the waiting is already killing me and I just finished book three.

Im just gonna point out that the best scene in this series in The Awakening scene. My goodness! Fantastic job on that scene. Can't wait for what comes next. I am a new huge fan. Bravo to the author for a wonderfully crafted series.

This series is phenomenal!! There really is no other way to describe it! If you haven't read the first two, A Flare of Hope and A Flare of Power, then get going and grab those first. You really don't want to miss anything in this series. A Flare of Sorrow picks up where we left off in bk 2 continuing the story of Dylan, Haylie and their friends. We learn so much and there is plenty of action, twists, revelations, tension and romance that you had better be prepared not to put this book down until you reach the last page. I am desperately awaiting what i believe is the last book in this series, but at the same time so sad that it will come to an end.

Oh My... I don’t know if I have words to describe this series!
JUST perfect!
It has everything I could ask for! The fiction aspect of it has a solid base in reality and is so creative!
I love all the characters and the combination of their qualities and flaws.
The sexy side is toned perfectly, not vulgar or trashy and is delivered perfectly.
The way the writer describes emotions and feelings is beautiful!
I am sad there is only one more book left! I want spin-offs and movies out of this!

A good third book

I hate it when authors continue stories in series. It's annoying as hell as the story is filled out with unnecessary information overload. I personally love this series. The storyline is solid and the characters are well developed and likeable. However I do feel that continuing a story beyond three books is excessive and unnecessarily drawn out. Whilst there is action, there is plenty more wet dreams, and graphic details of dreaming about lots of sexual intercourse that it became tiresome, boring in parts and was very unnecessary. Like I said filled out pages. There is a really slow burn romances which to be honest was getting on my nerves. Dylan the male lead treats all women like whores as he is one himself. He doesn't want a relationship with Haylie because he's not that type of guy. Haylie is a relationship type of person and is frightened understandably of getting her heartbroken and of him rejecting her as this is what he does constantly. Dylan has been aweful to her and I really don't know why she likes him so much. Dylan does eventually vindicate himself in this book with how he really does feel for her and his actions speak louder than his words. After Haylies awakening he became angry with her once again, with him thinking Haylie was jealous of cassie because she spoke against her. He was just simply annoying at times. This is not a trilogy and there is a cliffhanger at the end. The story might seem from my review negatives but it really is a good storyline and one regardless of the filled out information is a recommended read.

Once again a brilliant book!

This book had to be the most intense, riveting and heart wrenching book to date! But it also gave us a chance to see both main characters separated from eachother to show us as an audience what they truly mean/think of eachother.

Haylie has grown so much mentally and in maturity in this book that it is so amazing to watch! To see where she started until now? This is her really owning her powers and getting more and more stronger which I loved!

This had action and danger at every corner but that's what I liked about it! It was never a dull moment and I was entertained all the way!

And spoilers we FINALLY! have a breakthrough with our main love story!!! I was so happy it happened and it felt like a breath of fresh air.

Even though the book ended with loads of questions and we are still up in the air with their relationship... It was still a good book regardless. I can't wait for more!!

Possible spoiler?

I’m sorry but, just like the other books, IT WAS NOT LONG ENOUGH.

I love how Haylies character developed through the series. It wasn’t forced but came naturally with every event. I love all the characters and how they interact with each other. It makes me laugh out loud and feel like I’m part of the camaraderie. I also love how Dylan and Haylies relationship builds up. It made their union that much more satisfying.

My favorite was the relationship between Cassie and Haylie. I was laughing so hard! I wonder if Haylie will spill the beans on what happened between them. You just have to read and find out!

>Book Review – A Flare of Sorrow
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 3rd in the Jaylior series and ends with a cliffhanger. Dylan and Haylie are finally a couple. Their romance is so sweet and sexy. Haylie is getting proficient with her powers. She and Cassie are taken by the bad guys and tortured. Dylan comes to the rescue, of course. There is a weird girl on girl scene with Cassie that was disturbing. If they were going to do that scene, I wish Dylan would have eventually found out about it.
> This story is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. There are a lot of battles and the paranormal powers are fun to see.

5 stars for A Flare of Sorrow by Elodie Colt. This is book three in the Jaylior Series. I love everything about these characters and their story. Finally, Dylan and Haylie are admitting their feelings. “Think. Then act. Never the other way around.” Haylie is missing, but who is to blame. Dylan is losing his mind, he feels like a failure. This book is intense, and the dual P.O.V. add to that. I am hooked and loving every second of this series. I can not wait to see what next. Be ready for a cliffy.

Well-written series

This is a very well-written series, meaning world-building, characters, plot, language and editing were all fine-tuned. The magic/abilities of the Roes is extremely complex and based in pseudo science which is actually very interesting. Obviously, the romance is hot and Dylan and Haylie are both swoon-worthy. I don't mind "cliffhanger" endings and I'm super glad the series is continuing.

A Flare of Sorrow

This book is fast paced and action packed. Can't wait for book 4. In this book, Dorian creates a lot of havoc. Charlie gets captured and the compound is attacked. Critics all people die. Then a huge twist gets added to the cliffhanger at the end.

3.5 stars. For me, this series feels more YA/NA than what I'm usually into. The whole plot of the series 3 books in is around a battle between 2 groups of superhumans trying to control/possess a "Natural" - a rare type of superhuman with Jaylior colored eyes.

Plot picks up in book 3.

A Flare of Sorrow, the third book in the Jaylior series, is an ebook I downloaded from Kindle Unlimited. The elevl of complexity took a nice upward turn following the prior book's ending. It's nice to see the plot coming together. The surprises keep coming, which enhances a great storyline.
