Maya is down in the dumps ... quite literally. She's just been pied off by her boyfriend before what was supposed to be their last romantic summer before heading off to Uni. Luckily help is at hand in the form of her friends, determined to hook her up with a fun summer romance, no strings attached. And with a summer job working at fancy new beach resort in town, how can she fail to meet the guy of her dreams? Hot weather, hot guys, hot summer romance... it's a dead cert. But with three perfect-on-paper guys to choose from, not to mention her snakey ex re-entering the picture, how will she know which guy to go for?
Chloe Seager grew up in East London with her Mum and much-loved cat, Katie. She studied English Literature and Drama at the University of East Anglia, where she sadly realised she couldn't act, but did rediscover her love of children's books. Studying them on her favourite module, Children's Literature, made her wonder why grown-ups ever stopped reading them. She now works with them full-time as a YA/Children's literary agent at Northbank Talent, and lives back in East London with her boyfriend, three fish and her cat Edie. Editing Emma is her first novel and the sequel, Friendship Fails of Emma Nash, was published in 2018.
This book was addictive, fun and funny. I was expecting nothing less seeing as it’s written by Chloe and knowing that my past experiences with her books have been the same. It really did make me laugh out loud, which is slightly embarrassing when you’re on a packed train, but I don’t really care because I enjoyed this book a lot!
This is a great, light-hearted read! Very cheesy, very sweet, and while I also found it very predictable, the excitement was in the actual scenes rather than 'what's going to happen?' - all the characters were so fun!
This book follows Maya, or M as her friends call her, and her friends during the summer holidays as they work at the utterly brilliant "Casa Nadar" after Maya's "perfect" boyfriend Freddie breaks up with her. Her best friends Aimee and Joe however are determined to find her her perfect match.
First of all, I did enjoy this book. It was fun, quirky and as I only seemed to notice halfway through the book somehow... Very much love Island!
I won't lie, parts of this book were slightly cringy, and I thought the main characters were quite immature for their age, the way they spoke and how niave they were made me think they were younger than they actually were. The boys Maya meets however were written coming accross as quite a bit older and much more mature so it was all quite conflicting.
Dispite a few minor problems i did enjoy it and for anybody looking for a fun, light read for this summer, this one could be for you!
Honestly I shouldn’t be the one writing this. My book type tends to lean towards two very intelligent and capable rivals who compete against each other and try to kill each other followed by the slowest slowburn on humanity capped off with them becoming lovers just before the book ends but anyways.
I mostly read this cuz a friend recommended it and I have a vow to finish every book I read cuz the author as probably put tons of effort into it(please excuse textbooks, they will only even be fun when y and x marry-) but anyways, by finising it I have accompkished the task of skimming though it and getting the overall plot.
Sooo ya, not really a fan of the MC liking a bunch of guys and picking up some other person. But it is a good book if thats yr taste :)
This book was exactly what I needed right now. It was light and fun but with realistic characters. It has the typical British YA trademark of using fad words which usually irritates me but this time didn’t, perhaps because Chloe used them minimally.
If I have any issues with this book, they’re with the friend, Aimee, who seems to almost gaslight the main character, Maya, by going back and forth on her opinions frequently, but she does grow as a character herself so I can forgive those behaviours somewhat.
Overall it’s a fun read with a lot of surprisingly deep insight into what makes a good relationship. I enjoyed Editing Emma by Chloe, but I think I prefer this book by her more.
This book was one of the most romantic books I’ve ever read. Maya has just been dumped by her boyfriend Freddie and has missed her opportunity to go to Spain. Instead, she spends her summer with her two friends, Aimee and Joe, at Casa Nadar. There she meets three boys, who all seem to like her. Lots. She has to choose between Noah, Adam and Jake. Will she be able to choose?
I guessed right away who she would choose. I probably read the last bit like three times. I know, I’m weird, but you know, I couldn’t help it.
This book is the best. No wait I mean, the BEST. That’s why I rated it 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠. It’s just amazing and you should DEFINITELY read it.
"Oh, My Days!" This is a funny and beautiful story. I loved the Emma Nash books and could not wait to meet a new character from the writing-mind of Chloe Seager.
Maya is so lovely and I love her inner-narrative: "... a snakey snake!" Honestly, I laughed so much at her take on the conundrum life was throwing at her, from multiple directions.
This book is simply pure genius and I honestly did not want it to end. I won't pretend I didn't know how it would conclude, but as with all humour, it's all about timing. And this ending had me laughing and spilling happy tears.
3.5 stars A short and cute read. Maya is likeable and her voice is distinct but I wish she were more nerdy in the first half too. Maybe the author could have overdone Maya being a geeky STEM student and how she over plans and over organizes. I think there could have been more comedic scenes with Maya failing whilst being a perfectionist. Although looking back, the author managed to put that in the story but I still felt it lacking in some ways. It's not as outrageous and witty like Dating Disasters of Emma Nash.
Overall, this was still quite entertaining and a light-hearted story about red and green flags in dating. Surprisingly, this book also touched upon the issue of gaslighting but not to a great extent. I'm just thankful that this book taught me that having an ideal/dream person is not all that. At the end of the day, we are just human beings with unique and contradicting traits.
I always enjoy this author so much! So funny, very Georgia Nicolson vibes. I liked that there was an almost magical realism element of these dream boys dropping out of thin air/materializing from her magazine quiz. And the end was very sweet and got me right in my feels!
This book is exactly needed in a book at the moment. It's super fun and easy to read and overall just a really happy book. It's not very romantic (which I wasn't really expecting) but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good read, easy. Half way though you can kind of predict the ending, but for a dyslexic reader it is a good easy read. Everyday i had to pick it up to read more of it, it felt addictive.
*spoiler warning* My type on paper by chloe seager rating- 5/5 stars i read this book before i read take a chance on me by beth garrod and even though i read these two books one after the other i still loved both of them. unlike take a chance on me in this book our main character , Maya , (under short notice) is staying in her country for the summer and working at the local beach resort as a cleaner, then a lifeguard. This book follows the same story line as take a chance on me however i think that the two are different enough to be enjoyed one after the other (unless you get bored of the same tropes over and over.) i really liked the friendship Maya and Aimee had and i liked that they helped each other out . throughout this book i found myself laughing at parts and empathising with our main character, Maya ,this book was a fun, light, entertaining and a great read to take with you to the beach. i would recommend this book to people aged 12+ if you enjoyed this book you should read: -bumpy rides , turning tides and my french romeo by liz elwes -sparks in Scotland by a. destiny -wish you were Italian by kristin rae
I would give this book 3.25 stars, and I really liked it. If you liked this book, I would really recommend reading Take a Chance on me by Beth Garrod because they have quite similar plots, but are both unique in their own way. All through the book I was hoping that Maya and Joe would get together at the end and THEY DID! A really cute ending and I liked how each character was wrapped up neatly. My favourite character was Joe, he was just such a good friend and hilarious! So I enjoyed this book, 3.5 stars.
