Five Points #2

Forever Chance

Rate this book
Balancing a professional life and a personal life is always difficult. When you're the Sheriff of a county that brings in a million tourists like Chance Fitzsimmons is, you stand as the thin blue line between order and anarchy twenty-four hours a day, three hundred sixty-five days a year. Trying to plan a Christmas wedding to begin a decade's long-delayed life with her fiancée, Jax St. Claire, can throw things out of balance. If that’s not enough, an influx of opioids causing multiple overdoses at a county festival followed by a mass casualty incident at a popular ski resort threaten to push the county emergency service resources to their breaking point. Chance’s dedication stresses her conviction to the five principles she lives by like a rescue rope loaded to its safety limit. Jax's life isn't exactly calm either at the Three River's Animal Clinic, where a sinister visitor introduces unwelcomed sexual advances that cause waves of intimidation and harassment to her and her staff. The resolution that comes crashing down will close a critical link in the chain of a high-profile investigation, putting lives and a vow yet to be made, at risk. Both women are dedicated to finding that balance, and their "Forever Chance" is but a promise away if only they can survive to trudge the snow to say ‘I do.’

I grew up a voracious reader, feeding my imagination with books. I spent hours exploring the woods around my farm, pretending I was “Hawkeye”, surviving in the wilderness. I climbed into the hayloft of our barn, looking for “Charlotte” among the spider webs. Later, I looked in every wardrobe I could trying to find “Narnia and Aslan”. As an adult, I can still remember reading my first novel with a lesbian character and how it made me feel to finally identify in an entirely new way.
My adventure into writing came at the suggestion of my wife. Several years ago, she asked me to write her a story. I began crafting her personalized gifts for holidays and special occasions, by writing stories for her. I’d weave in pieces and parts of our life. My brain started asking “what if” after she mentioned forgetting I’d written the story until something sounded familiar.
My wife and I are part owners of an active produce farm and a U Pick strawberry operation on my wife’s family land all while I continue into my twenty fifth year as a full-time firefighter. On top of all that, we built our dream home in 2016, on property we’ve been clearing and preparing for fourteen years. Now we reside on 221 acres of woodland in the mountains of West Virginia, with three cats as I pine away for another promised Border Collie. We love to go watch our Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Steelers. We love leading our great niece and nephews on adventures to fuel their imagination and creativity as we watch them grow.

Oh my gosh - this is an absolutely amazing read!

There is a lot going on for sheriff Chance Fitzsimmons; trying to plan a wedding, assault and battery and an unknown enemy becomes increasingly violent. The safety of her lover is seriously in danger. Chance, her partner Zeus and all the other first responders are doing everything they can to keep everyone safe. Even if that means risking their own lives. This installment is an excellent addition to the first book in this series. It is fast paced, full of love, action packed, the characters are well drawn, a superb plot and the ending is heartwarming. The dialogues are easy to follow and sometimes hilarious. Especially the dialogues involving the moms. Chance and Jax are my favorite couple. The love between them is palpable and feels so real. It leaps of the pages.
After reading this book I can certainly say that it increased my respect for these incredibly first responders. They are courageous men and women. I highly recommend both books in the Five Point series. So, grab your copy and brace yourself for a wild ride.

Great addition to the Five Points series (at least 3 are planned from what the 'afterword' says). Murphy has a great talent for writing tense scenes. Especially with regards to this series and a criminal element. There is *tons* of conflict in this book (and book 1 too now that I think about it) but the MC's are adults, and consequently act like it. (IKR GASP). Such a refreshing change. Too often I read about MC's who are written in their 30's/40's whatever but they act like they're 12 years old, which always frustrates me. Not here though. Each MC has her own set of strengths and that really appeals to me as a reader. I *really* enjoy Murphy's writing. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Another great book in the Five Point series. I love these characters and their story. The love between Chance and Jax is palpable. The closeness of the clan and its extended members is joy to read and experience. I’m having fun on this trip down memory lane as I prepare to read the newest book Sovereign Chance.

Another home run for CJ Murphy. Chance and Jax are back and CJ keeps the action going in this second book in the series. What a great balance of romance and action. I read throughout most of the day on New Years and then finished today because I was so anxious to find out what happens next...Clever woman left a few things unanswered, but not the most important stuff that required closure. I can't wait for the next book because OMG the teaser at the end has me hooked already. I don't think anyone can ever go wrong with one of CJ's books.

I love all of CJ Murphy's books and this one is no exception. I've been excited for this since I read the first book in the series and saw the teaser for this one at the end. A lot happened in this book, but it wasn't overwhelming or too much. It hit all the points and was very well balanced between all the moving parts. Crime/detective parts, romance parts, search and rescue bits - I loved it all! And the characters! I've not read a book by Murphy that had a character I didn't like. (Minus the obvious Bad Guys who you're supposed to dislike.) Like with the rest of Murphy's books, I'd love full length novels for every single side character we see (LOL). I know that won't happen, but it's just a testament to how amazing the characters and the world they are in are built. (But I mean Taylor and Penny - are my favorite and I'd love love love to get more of them and I loved that we got a bit more in this one, so I can't wait to watch them grow in the background as the series progresses. And I can't wait to learn more about Kendra and Brandi!) I really loved this book and the first book in this series. After reading the little teaser for the third at the end, I'm equally excited for the next installment!

It was great to catch up with Jax and Chance in the second book of the Five Points series... and most important of all, I got all my questions answered! Penny and Taylor's baby name is perfect! I loved all the action in the book... even if a couple of our favourite characters were hurt, luckily not fatally hurt. Finally, I love the family dynamic both with their actual families and the families Chance and Jax have chosen in their friends. That's pretty cool.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Brad get what's coming to him in the next book 'cause the guy is seriously a douchebag.

Just a small critique though... a catheter is a small plastic tube that goes into a penis and/or vagina hole to extract urine from a patient who's unable to get around themselves. It's not used like an IV... 'cause OUCH!

SO BEAUTIFUL!!

Sheriff Chance and her fiancée vet Jax are back in this second part of the Five Points book series. Picking up a few months after the last book left off, this one is full of LOTS of love of all kinds, friendship, family, tension, mystery, drama, danger and so much more! Problems from the last book, Gold Star Chance, are resolved, new problems erupt and need to be dealt with, Jax finds herself in mortal danger not just once and there are weddings, a sweet new baby and much drama around, including trouble with Faith and Jax’s mother…

I adored this book!! This is a beautifully written book with TONS of feels! I loved the feeling of coming home to see old friends and the warm fuzzies I got from watching all these loving relationships evolve and grow while new ones formed. The women in this book are so amazing. They are strong and brave, kind, loving, warm and dedicated to each other and others in their community. I loved them all, well mostly, Faith and Mrs. St Claire aren’t on that list at all but I digress. I cannot recommend this book highly enough! This series is among my favourites and anyone who reads it will not be disappointed and might even find themselves falling in love with Jax, Chance and the women they love.

I’m so glad CJ decided to become an author. Her stories are so well written and her characters are so lovable, it’s a joy to read her work. This second book, in the Five Point series, is a perfect example of her talent. The emotions I felt during reading this story went from chuckling out loud to tears of happiness running down my cheeks.
Chance has her hands full again, trying to keep the bad guys from harming the innocent people in her county. Jax has a growing business and, of course, Chance to watch over. All of the secondary characters are interesting and play their parts in CJ’s story so well, you won’t want to stop reading until you’re done. The flow of the story moves along so well, you’ll want to keep turning the page at the end to see what happens next!
I really think you’ll agree with me when you grab this book. The only downside to reading CJ’s work....having to wait for the next installment! Thanks CJ Murphy, I’ll just sit here impatiently waiting for Redemption Road to drop!

I loved this sequel to Gold Star Chance. I really enjoyed the planning for the wedding between Chance and Jax. I found that the story has the right amount of everything I like in a novel. There was plenty of mystery, conflict, drama and romance. This is the second of CJ Murphy’s books I’ve read and I’m now planning on reading the rest. She introduces new characters that have the same sense of honor that Chance has. I really like Kendra and Brandi as well as Taylor and Penny.

There is a teaser of Chapter 1 of the next book in the series and I’m ready to jump into that one as well.

Forever Chance was awesome and would definitely recommend it to others.

Another great book from CJ Murphy. I was happy to catch up with Chance and Jax and their extended family and friends. It's refreshing to read a well crafted story about two older women that has rounded characters and several 'meaty' strands to the story. Themes touched upon in the book are drug overdose, domestic violence, misogyny, homophobia and is not for the faint hearted, but it is strangely uplifting at the same time. CJ Murphy is a gifted writer and I've already bought the next book in the series and am looking forward to learning more about Pastor Rhebekka.

Took the Chance

CJ Murphy was recommended by another author. “Gold Star Chance” was the first I read and now I am hooked. Both Five Points Books were good. I liked both lead characters, Chance and Jax. Two people trying to right a wrong from long ago. The town and the people in it add to the story and make you wonder if there is really a town like Tucker County that we can visit.

I highly recommend the Five Points series.

Second Chance Romance

Chance and Jax are lovers again after thirty years apart. A Sheriff and a Veternarian who also do rescue operations for the surrounding countries. Life has some challenges in store for them but together they face then all. Some wonderful characters share a passion for life, love and family. Recommend Series. Marvelous writer.

I totally loved this. It was a fantastic read. Plenty of action and I loved the characters of Chance and Jax. The secondary characters were excellent. My favourite from all would have to be Maggie and Dee who are Chance's mothers. They two were hilarious.

Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Good read

I liked that the characters are likable and their lives do not lack adventure that is believable. The fact the art their lesbian community are also their family is a delicious brew to be tested and enjoyed.😘

An excellent follow-up to A Gold Star Chance. Highly recommend!

Also, Thank you Murphy for actually giving me the wedding and vows. I've read too many romances with the weddings happening off page, but I love those sweet and lovely moments!

wow!

The road to the wedding was fought with peril, but our two soulmates managed to weather the storm. So much happened in this book. It was great to get to know Chance, Jax, and their posse better. Quite the adventure really. Good story!

This is the second in the Five Points series, and is pretty good. I liked the first book better than this one, but the story was still interesting. A few loose ends were tied up, and there was some suspense here. Overall, a good continuation of the previous book.

Loved this book

Really loved this book! It was well written and it hooked you into the story from the get go. I enjoyed all the characters including the supporting cast of characters. I liked Chance’s kid sister Kendra and her girlfriend Brandi.

The suspense that went on with the hunt of the drugs coming into the county all the way to Jax being run off the road.

The insensitive way Faith talked with total disregard for Theresa’s feelings. I hope there is a story about Theresa somewhere along the way.

Ms. Murphy is an excellent story teller and I look forward to all her future stories.

This is the second in a series. I liked that the this couple’s story continued. I liked the new romance that occurred in it as well. My one tiny issue was that the main character wouldn’t touch soup in the first book due to something in her history, but that want carries forward in the second book. That is a minor thing though. I do plan in reading more of this series. I hope the main characters are not just small side characters in the next books.
