Take It Down a Notch

Rate this book
I read this book twice. That first chapter sealed the deal for me, I knew this was going to be a kind of story that I was going to throw my day plans right in the trash for. -- Amazon ReviewerIf only men were for sale this time of the year.

Then I could buy one, use him as a companion for my son who needs a male figure in his life, and then return him once we were all good again.

But it doesn’t work that way. A friend mentions a Big Brother Program, and I’m all in.

My little one gets what he needs, and I don’t have to sacrifice my freedom and worry about love loss again.

The handsome guy they assign my son isn’t at all what I expected. Nor are the warm fuzzies I get when I see him.

Come to find out, he’s not there for the best reasons.

But me and my kiddo have fallen in love with this unruly, aggressive alpha male.

There’s no way to work out the desires bubbling up inside of me and keep my morals in check.

And for the first time in my life, I want to make the wrong decision. The selfish one. The one just for my own deep, dark pleasures.

To find out that he's beyond wealthy, just like my son’s father was, leaves me cold. I should run far from him.

My ex's family made me sign a contract promising to never tell about the baby in my belly. My life was forever changed.

Rich people are horrible people. This new love interest is no different.

Yet I’m trapped in desire and drowning in need when he’s around.

With no way to take it down a notch.

Not sure I would if I could…

Every good girl deserves a bad boy. ~ Weston

Hey there. I'm Weston.

Have we met? No? Well it's time to end that tragedy.

I'm a former firefighter/EMS guy who's picked up the proverbial pen and started writing bad boy romance stories. I co-write with my sister, Ali Parker, but live in Texas with my wife, my two little boys, my daughter, two dogs, three cats, and a turtle.

Yep. A turtle. You read that right. Don't be jealous.

You're going to find Billionaires, Bad Boys, Military Guys and loads of sexiness.

Something for everyone, hopefully. I'd love to connect with you. Check out the links below and come find me.

2.5 I’m not sure this book was for me stars

I picked up this book because I saw it on Amazon and I love single mommy reads. BUT, The writing style is not my jam.

I liked that it was more dialogue base. I’m not the type of person that likes to read inner monologues, however, when the main characters goes and talks to his or her best friend after every scene to talk about what JUST happened. Well that’s like having an inner monologue. I really hate that kind of writing. Why can’t the two people just have a relationship, why do they always go to the best friend for advice for everything.

I really hate a secret storyline Granted the secret was really stupid. I mean how can your issues be with rich people? That’s like saying, oh someone was once mean to me, so I don’t like mean people. Huh? Really?

Declan lies about him being rich because Raeanne doesn’t like rich people. Declan also lies about why he went into to big brother problem because what’? He’s embarrassed? Umm.. okay.

I also didn’t like the pace of the book. I felt like 20-30% of all the filler chapters could have been edited out. The lead-up to go into the big brother program took forever! Like … let’s get to the heart of the story ya know.

I usually give authors several chances, but I have a pretty good feel for this one. I’m not fond of the pace or the type of plots that are created. I’m just going to pass.

Money💰 Can't Buy Love💘

Declan🐺🍆⛲ is the privileged son of a wealthy man💰, one of three siblings in a dysfunctional family. He spends his time being a screw up, mostly. Finally one of his drunken escapades gets him arrested and he is also forced to do community service as a Big Brother. He really does need to grow up. Maybe this is his last chance.

Raeanne💃💋 is a young single mother with a seven year old son Lawson👨. She is angry at her circumstances. The wealthy father refuses to acknowledge his son, and Raeanne💃💋 must be both a mother and father to him. Lately it's not working out so well, the boy👨 realizes he wants a real father!

Raeanne💃💋 decides, with some urging from her best friend, to get Lawson👨 a Big Brother.......

ARC Received from Bookfunnel🌀
I also got this ebook with KU.

This is a cute, crazy ADULT love story that takes place over Christmas and beyond. It's written from dual points of view, of course.

Weston Parker is one of the premiere male authors of ADULT contemporary romance. Enjoy!

I must say the beginning dragged a lot for me. It took the characters 10 chapters to meet and that was waaaaay too long for my liking.

Raeanne was ok at first, but the more I got into the story, the more judgemental, narrow-minded and prejudiced she got and it kind of got on my nerves. I do understand she was treated really badly by Adam and his parents but her behaviour just proved to me she was immature and kind of dumb. Especially when she found out the truth about Declan's wealth and family and she couldn't figure out why he wasn't honest about it from the beginning??

Well, maybe if she wasn't that sour and didn't make bitchy comments left and right about people with money, he would've been honest, but I guess she was too dumb to add 2 and 2 together and actually needed Tessa's help to spell it out for her.

The kid didn't sound like any 7-year-old I know but he was pretty cute. The biggest plus in this book was actually Declan (despite his ridiculous name). Smart, a bit cocky, but with good heart. I enjoyed his pov way more than out little Miss Goody Two Shoes.
There was this plot hole with the interview as well, but that didn't bother me that much.
All in all, I give it 2.5 stars. It was ok but it didn't blow me away. I'll probably check more books from this author in the future.

Wow just Wow!! Weston has outdone himself with this one as I think it is the best book written to date. I know I keep saying that but his books just keep getting better.

Roseanne got pregnant while she was still in high school, the boy was from a very wealthy family and they decided she wasnt worthy of their son. They wanted nothing to do with her child and signed over all rights. Book now skips seven years and Lawson, her son is 7 years old.

Declan Hobbs is from a very wealthy family but hasn't figured out what his passion in life is yet. One night while out bar hopping with a friend a misjudgment gone bad ends with Declan being mandated to 3 months of Big Brothers.

Twists and turns from there...very enjoyable read

Another rich one falls

If you like your heros rich...if you like them cocky, if you like them in shock...
You are going to really like this story... because even the rich can be humble.

Good enough

Very predictable but it was a cute story. Character development was good, but again it lacked the surprises that most successful novels contain.

Good story!

This was a bit different then other stories I have read recently. Liked the fact that Declan wasn’t a jerk. He was totally a nice guy. Great romance!

This only gets two stars because of some spoilery stuff I shall mention later. I'm not really a huge fan of the "big secret" plot. I mean, just be an adult and tell someone if it's something that big! Some authors have done it well and the secret is told and someone gets upset, but they work through it. I'm all about that. Not so much this book. But I still think it's pretty cute.

I think the addition of Lawson to the mix helps a lot with that. It kind of raises the stakes a little. Declan's family is a little (lot) much. And I think we are supposed to eventually see that he should be better with them, but I never really feel that way. I don't think they were likeable enough. But I do like Raeanne (what is that name??). She's a pretty bad ass single mom who is just looking for what is missing for her kid. I like that she takes advice from Tessa and doesn't let any pride get in her way. Her only issue is a HUGE dislike of rich people. Which makes it all the more weird when she kept saying that what was in his bank account didn't matter to her....oooooooooo. Hypocrite! Hah.

But I think there is a pretty huge plot hole? plot issue? in the story.

Weston Parker's books are always a automatic for me to pick up. Take It Down a Notch was a good read and I did really enjoy the characters! The relationships and family problems are something you can relate to. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was I felt it was predictable in what was going to happen and I could guess alot. But overall I did like the book and would recommend it! I recieved a ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Eh. As a mother of two elementary aged boys, the absolutely unrealistic character of the son totally took me out of the story. I also had major problems with the believability of the hero and heroine as well.

What an amazing ride Weston has taken us on with this story.
He had me engaged from the 1st page to the last one. This book has it all, you will laugh and you will cry, but you won't be disappointed at all.
It is amazingly complex likeable with all 3 characters, which will bring you to a different level of love and suffering.
Definitely one of my favorites from Weston. I surely recommend it.

Open for the Holidays…!

Author Weston Parker has gathered much of his experiences he generously shares in his Bad Boy books as a firefighter/EMS man. He now travels and writes, at times with his sister Ali Parker, and at times alone, and his books are all the rage with the Chick Lit audience who undoubtedly love the manner in which a man creates the hot steamy erotica that women usually write for this audience. Weston keeps it real with people with whom we can identify readily and he writes with such powerful eroticism that his novel steam from cover to cover.

Stepping up for the holidays reading time, Weston provides a scintillating and unique romance between one Raeanne and one Declan, and introduces the male figure first – ‘The only reasonable explanation was that I had to have been adopted because there was no way the people sitting around the unnecessarily large dining room table could have the same blood running through their veins that I did. They were certifiable. During every family dinner, there was a point that I came to this same conclusion, as my wannabe fashion-designer younger sister explained her latest ideas to us, I realized that I had reached that point. “There are only two weeks to go until Christmas,” she said with an air that made it seem like she was imparting wisdom to us, like we hadn’t known it was nearly the holidays…’ That is a fine glimpse of Declan, the male lead.

Raeanne, the female lead is well described in Westin’s synopsis: ‘If only men were for sale this time of the year. Not sure I would if I could…’

Fleshed out characters, a fun pairing, and a solid romance as a payoff. This is another steamy erotic piece that works on every level.

the story was okay but raeanne was immature and childish at times like just because her 16 year old brain experienced what is a horrible experience of meeting her son father’s rich family and letting that experience dictate her view of all rich people. She should know that not all rich people are like that and sometimes there are reasons why they act that way. Even though declan family mostly his siblings and mother are stuck up spoiled snobs doesn’t mean she can treat them the way adam and his family treated her. Like she should think about it for example their son plays football and might become something great in his future and they think she is a young gold digger and using a baby as a meal ticket and use their son. i’m not saying they should’ve treated her like shit and stuff but maybe adam never told his parents about her or anything because raeanne wasn’t popular or anything just a loner. I blame adam’s parents and declan’s parents for their upbringing because adam family was judgmental but they probably had reasons for it and declan’s parents should’ve been more involved with their kids and make them earn their things than spoiling them too much especially the mother. The father was verbally abusive a little bit to declan and that made him insecure in ways of his life because who tell their son stop being a pussy at 4yrs old. And it’s really strange that adam family didn’t leave lawson with a trust fund and raeanne parents don’t talk to her like are they dead or what.

DREAMY DECLAN EARNS HIS FAMILY!

Declan Hobbs was a rich, hot playboy who didn't know what he wanted to do with his life. He did know he didn't want to be like his brother or sister, just squandering away his parents money, acting like fools. But he wasn't much better. Then one night, a drunken accident sends him down a different path.

Declan becomes a Big Brother to Raeanne Zeller's son Lawson through a series of unfortunate incidents. Lawson is a precocious 7 year old who is starving for a man's attention. The bond these three form is amazing and heartwarming to watch. I could feel the affection Declan felt for Lawson as the weeks went by and the attraction between him and Raeanne. But Raeanne barely scrapes by for a living as a freelance photographer and has a deep hatred for the wealthy. Declan has secrets and is afraid if he reveals all, he will lose what is becoming the most important part of his life. For as he is changing and impacting Lawson's life, Lawson and Raeanne are changing and affecting his. He can't lose them!

This is a fantastic book and I resented any distraction that took me away from it. I read it in one day, couldn't stop. It is one you need in your library! It deserves at least 10 STARS!

Raeanne meets Declan when she enrolls her son, Lawson, in Big Brothers. Declan, although reluctant to be there, bonds with Lawson during the first session. He meets Raeanne and he is instantly attracted to her.

As he gets to know mother and son in the capacity of being a Big Brother, the attraction on both their parts grow. However both are keeping secrets. Declan still hasn’t told Raeanne how he found himself involved with the program and most importantly who he really is. Raeanne hasn’t disclosed the truth about the biological father of Lawson or why she has a disdain for wealthy people.

Trying to build a relationship while coveting secrets proves not to be so easy. As one of them comes clean about an issue from their past, the other offers no real answers until the choice is no longer theirs to make.

Overall a good story with well developed characters. Tessa, Finley and Wayde add to the back story as good supporting characters should. I just didn’t conn t with Declan as much as I should. I felt he was wasting his time and talents and if he hadn’t met Lawson, then what would have become of him?

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this title.

4 stars for Take It Down A Notch by Weston Parker. This is a single mom romance , that gripped my heart. Raeanne has had it rough. She got pregnant at a young age and the father’s family was a real piece of work. They wanted nothing to do with her or the child so they made her sign an NDA saying she would never tell who the father of her son Lawson really is. She has decided to sign Lawson up for the big brother program. This is where Declan comes in. Declan is a rich playboy who has done nothing with his life up to this point. After getting in trouble with the law he is sentenced to community service with the big brother program. Declan, Lawson, and Raeanna start to get close and develop a bond. Raeanne swears she will never be with some who is like Lawson’s father . What will happen when she finds out who Declan really is. That he was the exact type of person who Raeanne says she will never be with but will she see that Declan has changed.
This is a great story. I would consider this a story about discovering yourself. I loved all the characters and see what Declan will do with his life. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a single mom romance.

I wanted more!!

Wow just wow 😯 I enjoyed this book I really did It was so sweet. I enjoyed the characters they were so relatable; Raeanne & Declan were great together & their love scenes were freakin steamy 🔥! Lawson was smart and so adorable 😍 the relationships they all had were so cute.

The small problem for me was that I wanted more. There came a point when this book just stalled. The lie went on, and on, and on I was bored with it😐 It was so frustrating because I figured if that part was wrapped up quicker we would’ve had more time for the good stuff. The writer could’ve at least given this story an epic epilogue!! I wanted to read about the wedding, did they ever have a daughter? Did Declan adopt Lawson? Did Adam and his ratchet family contest the adoption? Again I have such a curious mind and dang it I wanted more!

Take it down A Notch 1 Star🌠

You know I do not understand this author. When I started reading his work I was so happy to find an author who let his work stand for itself. Then gradually, like most authors of this genre, his work was becoming destroyed by using Gods name in vain. Then this book just totally destroyed an kind of respect I had for him or his work. Every other word was GD this and HS that. Totally blew me away. Totally destroyed what could have been a brilliantly written book. I will not read this authors work anymore. If you do not respect God or your readers Sir, someday you are going to be in for a wide awakening. Good luck with that.

Declan is a wealthy son and a playboy without focus in his life. When he gets arrested, he's forced to volunteer time at the local Big Brother program, where he meets Lawson, a precocious 7-year-old, and his mother, Raeanne. The first several chapters were slow, but I was interested enough to find out how Declan would transform himself. After it gets going, the story is well written, and I couldn't put it down. Declan makes a lot of strides in his personal life, and the conflict and resolutions are well worth the wait. Standalone, and a pretty great HEA. Weston Parker is one of my favorite authors, and this book didn't disappoint.

Lots of fun characters

Raeanne, single mom and freelance photographer, meets Declan, trust fund playboy, when he is assigned as her son’s Big Brother. As the story progresses attitudes are hard to overcome, lies pile up, and when his two worlds collide there may be no coming back. Weston Parker’s Take It Down A Notch provides lots of fun characters and plenty of laughs. I would love to see if there is anything planned for Finley, Tessa, or redemption for Daisy and Charles.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

I'm gonna be honest

I hated Declan at first. Entitled rich man who isn't working and is snobby towars his family no freaking thank you...but I pushed through and he ends up having an amazing transformation because he chooses to be better for the single mom he fell for. I hate that she found found herself pregnant at 16 with out any support anywhere but she is written as a strong amazing woman...and that's honestly why I enjoy Westons stories so much...his female characters are beyond amazing and strong.

Getting Past Labels

Declan is a rich douche who has never had to work a day in his life. Just party and hang out. With a hump them and dump them mentality. Until he ends up in handcuffs for an accident. Raeanne is a very young single mother. Becoming pregnant at sixteen. She is forced to make some hard decisions. Being kicked out of her house. And forced to sign a paper saying she wont go after the rich father she is alone. After they are forced together in the Big Brother program sparks fly. The story was okay. It just seemed to be missing something.

This was my first book by this author and I realllyyyy enjoyed it! I also loved the boys name, Lawson. That's my son's middle name so I'm partial. He was such a great child character. I was pleasantly surprised that this author is Male and wrote such a great love story. I loved how Declan redeemed himself by becoming and embracing being a big brother. He ended up being such a positive influence om Lawson. Then the relationship between Declan and Raeanne. It sizzled. Again, pleasantly surprised with this author. I will definitely give another book of his a try. 4.5 stars!

Another great read I could not put down

Absolutely loved this book! It was so good I read it in a day!! I loved the characters and how they are shown with a sense of realness and likeness, and I loved the humor that was shown too. I also liked the setting and how the beauty in some of the scenes are described. I loved the romance amongst the characters and the passion and romance that was portrayed. The whole book just left a feeling of hope, love, and something inspiring. Not the first I've read and loved from this author, and definitely won't be the last!

Heartwarming story of redemption and growth. Declan is an admitted playboy who enjoyed his life of privilege and excess. Forced into community service to avoid jail time he turns his life around after he befriends a crying boy. Raeanne has been treated shamefully by a rich family and voices her dislike of the privileged at every opportunity. I loved this tale of guy trying to find purpose and redemption. The tiny family of Lawson and his mother helped find Declan’s long lost drive. I read this book using my KU subscription.
