In Alcohol Explained 2 William Porter develops his insight into the alcohol phenomenon, and provides the tools you need to retake control of your life for good.
I enjoyed reading this, perhaps enjoyed isn't the best way of describing it but it certainly deals with the clear facts of what alcohol is what effect it has and strategies for stopping either for a short period eg dry January or for longer.
It was so helpful in changing the way I think about sobriety. Instead of looking at life without alcohol as a sacrifice I now see it as gift to myself and my family. There is hope! Thank you!
Williams ability to tell it how it is and cut through the lies we tell ourselves about alcohol. The book is really well written and I can credit the author with helping me become alcohol free but also changing my perception of the 'attractively packaged poisen' A must read if you are serious about giving up drinking.
Really good, and definitely helped me decide to give up for "good" (very few special occasions, pre-planned), but wasn't as good as the first. Maybe it was that I listened to it on audible and the narrator seemed much more judgy... but that's entirely what I thought of this. While it was great information, I felt more judged than I did the first one, which was "come with me on this journey". This one was "you are stupid and weak if you don't give up alcohol completely and forever". Still read as it's good information, but please keep that in mind!
I have Alcohol Explained book 1, and found it helpful, especially the explanations of what happens to the body and mind as a result of alcohol. Some of which I was not aware of. How alcohol is just a temporary relief from uncomfortable emotions, worries and so on.
I read this book to deal with current strong cravings for alcohol, and found the authors detailed explanations and possible solutions on this aspect, again hopeful. The idea of changing one’s self image is interesting. So we will have to see if I can keep away from alcohol without seeing that as a disaster, maybe more a victory . We shall see.
I was hesitant to buy this, I thought it would be a rehash of the first book, it isnt. I found it much more insightful and gives you a better understanding of how addiction works. The book also gives you the tools and strategies to overcome the baffling addiction to alcohol, it totally turns your thoughts of how you perceive it, on its head. It is a game changer.
I read all the saga by William Porter. His "Nicotine explained" was the final book that pulled the trigger to make me quit for good; it is almost a year that I do not touch a cigarette. After nicotine, I got into my alcohol habit and I read both Alcohol Explained 1 and 2. These books made me consider deeply my relation to alcohol, and its effect on my life. Even though I haven't become completely sober, as I can have a drink and stop there, I a seriously considering giving up alcohol completely as well as the arguments in the book are logical and alcohol does take more that it gives. To conclude, I strongly recommend all his books, as they make you think deeply on your habits/addictions, and they really help making better choices for yourself. After reading both of the alcohol explained books , I feel like I now finally get it, ! These books are brilliant...They educate you in a way that you can see the hype for yourself , that alcohol is not what it’s cracked up to be,and that yes, you can quit, and not have to keep on taking one day at a time.. just start living and move on.. I have read numerous books in the past, lots of drunken diaries, self help books etc.. But NOTHING compares to these books.. I have them on my kindle,, special points , highlighted in different colors and I know I can refer back to them at any time if needed .. Believe me, .. you will not need any help, if you read both of these books.. you will be set. GOOD LUCK ,so worth it.. Thank you Mr Porter ..
William's works (both this and the earlier volume) are full of thoughtful insights and practical suggestions. I found both immensely helpful and in my view the best among the books dealing with these issues. His analysis of the actual processes involved in alcohol abuse and his rigorous laying out of the real consequences are particularly good. His approach in saying - you are not helpless, you do not need to be in "recovery" for the rest of your life, this is a choice - will, alongside his many other clear and sobering insights, strike a chord with many.
Best book I've ever read on this subject! Exploded myths and made the realitreality y so clear!
Best book I've ever read on this subject! Explodes the myths about alcohol and the reality of drinking as well as describing the reality of the way it works in the brain to set a person up to take another drink. There are also some very practical ways to be successful at getting out of the cycle that poisons everyone who chooses to drink.
Great book that adds fuel to the fire for quitting the poison, alcohol. William porter has a wonderful, logical, cut to the chase style that is easy to read and makes so much sense. I think a must read for inspiring those on the path to freedom from alcohol.
I defy anyone to read alcohol explained and not change their habits. Book 2 reinforces the lesson. Drinking is going the way smoking went (is going) the more people who read this the quicker this will happen. As an avid reader this is the only book I’d describe as being one that people have to read.
This book is largely a rehash of the information in the first book, with opinion s copiously added. The style is loose and colloquial, and the opinions are dictatorial and no-nonsense. I'd recommend the first Alcohol Explained, but skip this one.
William writes with great clarity and purpose and is very Allen Carr esque in his style. Some excellent approaches and analogies and I subscribe to much of his philosophy on drinking. Needs to be proof read otherwise would have been 5 stars
I really liked the 1st alcohol explained book and this is just as good if not better. Easy to read and explains in an easy to understand way all the myths about drinking.
This book goes deeper into "explaining" alcohol and is a great companion to the first book, plus never bad to have a refresher course to keep you going in the right direction!
Very simple yet insightful explanations on why alcohol is addicting and how to use this information to stop. I love the explanation on why it should not be a daily task but a one time decision.
I bought Alcohol Explained 1 and 2 after seeing William Porter on another podcast. The books are amazing, clear and precise with science based facts. 89 days alcohol free and I will Never touch it again. I feel so happy that I found the books.
Great book.....both..... one and two....are very informative...practical and easy to follow.....if you want to quit drinking...William definitely gives you the tools and information to do so...
This book gives loads of information needed to understand what alcohol does to us physically, emotionally and psychologically. I will recommend it to anyone in recovery or wanting to start recovery.
Excellent advise for anyone wanting to question their relationship with alcohol. Pragmatic solutions to overcoming the effects of stopping this drug. Well written and actually funny in places considering the seriousness of the topic. Would recommend to anyone .
Clear, concise and written to provide specific ideas to quit drinking, if that is your goal. I very much enjoy William's writing style and there is nothing that's difficult to grasp conceptually. I learned about myself and my journey with alcohol
I truly appreciate the honesty and true life experiences that William shares! This book and William give hope to those who feel as though they are broken. Thank you William for spending the time to share!
This book is essential for those of us who find drinking to be negative force in our life. The down to earth approach simplifies the process of giving up the poison and leading a purposeful life. I highly recommend Alcohol Explained 1&2.
This is a wonderful book. A great follow up to alcohol explained many good ideas. I would definitely recommend this book to all of my friends. Thank you so much for writing alcohol explained two
