Blaise is a shifter collared from birth to keep her from her abilities. It's been her dream to get the collar off and vanish into the countryside. Working as a highly paid whore has gotten her close - she can almost taste it. Until her Mistress dies, and the new Master burns her contract. Now everything is gone, and Blaise has to fight just to keep herself out of his hands.
Keepers are charged with keeping the peace amongst shifters, mages, and humans. The lower ranks spend their time collaring newborns and inspecting communities. But the higher ranks are on scene to investigate murders and hunt down criminals. Of these Keepers the Six Horsemen are an elite, high ranking, team, but to those who rule the kingdom, these six men are little more than instruments to do a job, and they're getting sick of it.
When they're ordered to take in a whore, a calculated move to prevent Keepers from forming meaningful relationships that will impact their job performance, the Six Horsemen go looking for Blaise. But there's a pretty good chance she's going to be dead before they find her.

Six Horsemen is an adult reverse harem. It is intended for an adult audience. It is a medium burn with a three rose rating in the relationship department, but every episode involves some panty-dropping. The series has a five rose rating in the trigger department. Episode one alone contains drug use, non-con, and physical abuse. This series does contain m/m content, and there are plans for m/m/m/f/m/m/m at some stage.
Hey guys, I'm an Australian who loves all things PNR and Reverse Harem. I also love good food, better bourbon, and great company. If I could give this book negative stars, I would.
Edited to add; There are no horsemen of the apocalypse in this book, these men were horse shifters, they didn't actually shift because they were collared with magic to prevent that.
Einstein's definition of insanity; doing the same thing over again, that's Blaise right there. She kept finding herself in different scrapes, she was totally TSTL. This book wasn't dark either, it was just vulgar , Whore is used 121 times that's about as dark as it gets not failing to mention the almost rape.
There is absolutely no character development. Blaise, a whore is on the run after her new master tries to drug her and have her sign another contract. She is almost raped and is saved by the Horsemen, they leave her at an inn. She is penniless and tells the innskeeper she would have sex with him for a roof over her head, he drugs her, finishes with her and then tries to double cross her, she flees and meets Bell, she hitches a ride with Bell. Bell is stopped by bandits and they ransom her belongings for twenty pieces of silver. Blaise volunteers to get the money for Bell so she goes into town and tries to have sex with Jensen in exchange for some money. While they are having sex she injures him and run away with his money, he catches her and almost drowns her.
Jensen is a scum. He has nothing working for him except him being a scum. I haven't seen a worse MC. He sells her out to the master looking for her, locking out the rest of his "brothers". The reason is because he doesn't trust her even though one of his brothers had a premonition about her. He lets her be drugged again and be tortured. Her fingers are being removed while he watches, he keeps questioning her and she keeps insisting that she is telling the truth but he doesn't believe her. Until her can't stand it and then saves her.
Why should I read another book about that type of hero. The heroine was stupid, she had no respect for her body . I don't even mind her profession, it's that there is literally nothing else going for her. Her solution to EVERYTHING is to have sex. There is also no plot, absolutely none. No thanks.
Never trust a goodreads rating... What a piece of BS. The characters are boring as f*k, there is no real plot. Blaise, the female protagonist, seems to be unable of development... She doesn't change her tactics or behaviour throughout the whole book having one standard reply by default. You might think that after the third failure she might consider to smarten up or at least she would try doing things differently but no. And don't start me on Jensen. In the beginning he was boring me out of my mind with his issues and he fast became real agitating piece of hypocritical ass.
I liked the trigger warning in the beginning of the book though.
I was afraid I wouldn’t really like this book based on some of the reviews thinking it might be too dark for me. But it wasn’t at all. Very similar to the authors other books. Still dark for sure and deals with unsavory elements but keeping it in context of the story... and the “time” the book was written... it didn’t bother me nearly as much as I was afraid it would.
In fact I thought it was fantastic. I loved midnight- Blaise and all the other characters that were unapologetically themselves. Some were dark and scary. Some were complete and utter horses rear-ends and others have glimpses of the possible good in a dark dark world for those that are not the rich and elite.
Definitely looking forward to reading more of the story. The format was different. It was like an omnibus of serials (that we didn’t need to wait for). It broke it up and set the stage.
I really really disliked this book. I no longer like this author either. I hope that changes before she releases the next Shadows and Shade book though, because I have no plans on skipping it.
So first, there are trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, and she means it. The rape situations aren't too bad, so if you aren't sensitive to that they probably won't bother you too terribly. But they still happen and can still be a trigger. The forced drug use though, that is not a silly or lighthearted thing. Not that the rape is, but the only rape scene that isn't stopped is the one the FMC is definitely participating in, not being forced to endure. That is not the same with the drugs.
So this is basically a series of VERY short novels bound into one book. Then each book is divided into acts, which are divided into chapters. Each chapter is voiced by a different protagonist, with a few "omniscient" voices mixed in, basically so that we can figure out what the "villain" is doing without having to be intimately inside their heads. You still are in their heads, you get to hear what they are thinking, and it is not comfortable, but you are at least allowed the distance to not feel like you are supposed to sympathize with them in any way. This method of dividing up the book works well if you are having issues, because it really isn't a problem to set it aside until you can deal with the feelings it evokes, then pick it back up when you are ready.
This book is dark, there is no way around that. It is uncomfortable in more than a few ways. Our FMC is troubled and has a skewed view of the world, caused by her past issues. She uses sex as a weapon, while it is also her worst weakness. Each MMC has an issue of some sort or another. At least one of the male protags ends up being in a really horrible place in the end, caused by his own actions and choices, and is the reason I am pissed at the author at this point. Despite that, the book is quite excellent, even if I'm not going to be sleeping well for a few days. I am very much anticipating the future books in this series, I just hope that the FMC does not easily forgive in the future, because that WILL be an issue if it happens.
Honestly, if you can handle the dark parts of this story I'd recommend it. Just don't go into it lightly.
This fantasy novel is the start of what promises to be an epic, dark and woven saga that currently holds more secrets than answers. It takes a little bit to really get into, but once the hooks are set, it’s fully engrossing, leading the reader to a maze of destiny that smacks the pages as much as it does this perfectly, if reluctantly, matched group. I can’t wait to see where this goes!
Fantasy, Med/fast burn RH, Cliffhanger, First person, multiple POV Rating = Mature (triggers abound and there is a darkness to this you need to pay attention to) Character age range = 26+ MMMMMMF
pros: - Amazing plot! - The right amount of dark. - That dust will make you shudder. Ick - lyrical writing. - Beautiful cover.
You can tell that the writer of this book is a fan of Rise of the Illiri by Auryn Hadley because it is influenced by it but it's nowhere near the same book. At first it was a bit slow for me but I persevered and after about 30% I could not stop. I enjoyed this and need the next one ASAP. I also enjoyed how the writing is set up as a play. I love the different personalities of the men and need to see more of their history but Jensen could go take a flying leap of a bridge.
When the description says no blushing virgins I am not sure if she means it more towards the characters or the intended audience but it’s a timely and apt disclaimer! A sassy and confident sex worker who owns her sensuality and enjoyment of sex despite being horribly used, abused and discarded by her first love. She is a Survivor in the truest sense of the word. She is juxtaposed against sex men who despite being stronger than the average man each have some small limitation that makes them considered damaged. Though they will still be used to death by those above them. They are no delicate flowers or blushing beaus but they are tangled in lust and magic and a cliffs edge from death at every turn. It may be a bit harsh and dark for some readers and the author acknowledges that and even lists support groups and crisis lines within the book. That being said it was a gritty glory and I will eagerly await the next to see where this world goes. *There is some real beginnings for dark here, murder, rape, attempted rape, beatings and abuse. Know yourself and your triggers and be safe.
Really enjoyed this book. I haven’t read anything by this author before but will dedireasing her again. The story was interesting, sucked me in from the beginning. The characters were intriguing especially Blaise, I loved that she was proud of, and took pleasure from her profession. And the premise was a refreshing change from a lot of recent offerings. Highly recommended
I'm not going to lie when I started reading this book I was a bit hesitant, it seemed a bit too much, but I'm now glad I actually read it all, I think I'm going to enjoy reading the next book as I really need to know what's going to happen, jensen seems to be the one to watch out for, he appears to be strong minded and un trusting of anything new but I have a feeling he's the one who's going to fall for blaise the hardest
Very interesting world. I love how feisty Blaise is. The multiple POVs was a little annoying for me but not enough to reduce my enjoyment overall. -Very mild spoiler - Oh and I really hate Jensen. I hope Blaise doesn't forgive him, but I'm afraid she will. What an a@@hole.
Phenomenal book!!! Written in segments as this is a compilation of short novellas that Amanda started for her newsletter followers!! Each segment grows in intrigue, character development, and numerous plot twists!
The ending will leave you begging for more!!! Bring on book 2!!!
This is written in a serial format. Supernatural people are treated badly, collared and sold as slaves. I love the characters and cant wait to see how things unfold
A truly unique take on coming together. Not your average tale of a damsel in distress. Not your average damsel. With characters you will love to hate and hate to love. I truly cannot wait for the next book.
Wow! Just wow! Such a different story from every other book I read! There were some hard parts but it was completely over shadowed by the good. This book was the kind of sitting on the edge of ur seat good!
great start to a new series and different type of book. I feel like I went to the theater and it was fantastic. I would go to this play in a heartbeat. Love this author and this book doesn’t let you down.
This book was crazy! So many POVs to follow and they created an incredible world. I need to know what happens next. Here's hoping Jensen can redeem himself.
DNF 24% it jumped around between very forgettable characters and a FMC that I couldn’t feel connected to. The world building was confusing and too grim to stick with.
