Baci proibiti

Rate this book

Londra, 1815.

New York Times bestselling author Nicole Jordan spins delightful tales that simmer with passion and sensuality. In her former life, Nicole grew up as an Army brat, moving frequently and attending high school in Germany. She later earned a civil engineering degree from Georgia Tech and spent eight years as a manufacturing manager making disposable diapers and toilet tissue! Currently Nicole lives in the Rocky Mountains of Utah with her real-life hero (her husband) and beloved kids (her horses).

With over two-dozen historical romances to her credit and four million books in print, set in numerous eras and locales, Nicole now enjoys chronicling the sparks that fly when Regency lovers play the matrimonial mating game.

One of her novels had the dubious honor of being humorously spotlighted by Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show." On a more serious note, Nicole's romances regularly appear on numerous bestseller lists, including The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and USA Today, and have earned such honors as RITA finalist, RWA's Favorite Book of the Year, the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Historical Romance, and the Dorothy Parker Award of Excellence, presented by a group of over one hundred romance reviewers.

This one was dull. Then why did I finish it? Well honestly I was too lazy and preggo to get another book. Too far away! I was all, whatever I can just finish it. And I did skim quite a lot in the second half. They were doing it all the time anyway and not a lot happened.

That was a problem. After 150 pages or so not a lot happened. It was more them smexing and considering he wanted to protect her from a murderer I had expected a bit more suspense. It was just them, and even if other people were around none stood out. Side characters really should stand out a bit too, that is how you think ohhh I want to read his book! Her book!

So all in all, a disappointment.

This story has an unusual plot which i find refreshing from the normal monotone plots circulating around today.
Antonia, daughter of a common shipping merchant, is determine to marry a nobleman to fulfill her dead father's wishes. Trey Deverill, a common man is determined to protect and safeguard her after he learns her life is in danger and the danger is coming from the noble lord who Antonia is betrothed to. She is stubborn and fiery and the only way to protect her from her betrothed after she doesn't believe he is responsible for her father's death is for Deverill to kidnap her and take her away from London.

Antonia is a bold no nonsense woman. And it isn't everyday you see a heroine approaches the hero for lessons in pleasure and seduction which is precisely what antonia does after deverill abducts and takes her to the cornish coast. I really love that she took charge of her own pleasure, demands it actually, from deverill.

The sex is off the hook between them. The chemistry, spark, flare and explosion between them I so look forward to. The bold way that the author writes this historical is to be commended. I will definitely be reading her work in the future.

To the lovers of romance novels, this is the book for you. Trey Deverills and Antonia’s love match certainly takes you on a romantic adventure. Their adventures are filled with murder, suspense, action and a lot of backstabbing. It is hard for me to say who was my favorite character, for they all played a good part. My only thought is to why Antonia held a gun on Deveril, telling him not to touch her, if she wanted him to ravish her.
Maybe that was a fill in, who knows. Good book people. I will be reading more from this author.

This should have been better than a 3 star book. The plot was reasonable, the supporting characters are great, the villain was really nasty, the hero is really swashbuckling, and there were numerous hot scenes.

The hot scenes may have been just a little too numerous. Antonia said several times that she and Trey Deverill had a lot in common but it was beginning to seem like there was really only one thing.

I also found it annoying that Antonia insists, loudly, over and over again that, in spite of being a female, she has a brain and can think and make decisions for herself. She then proceeds to demonstrate over and over again that she doesn't really make good decisions at all.

Soooo, this book annoyed me so much! Its a nice story, BUT THE VERY SAME OF MY FAIR LOVER! Or, I must say, My Fair Lover has the same story because it was published after this one. I amsolely disappointed in Nicole Jordan after this. The similarities are huge. Antonia and Kate have alburn hair, they both have a past with the hero, they are trapped away from London in an idillical place, they even share a identical scene about a knee! (Trying not to spolier). Ok, Trey and Brandon are cousins, but it seems to me that Nicole just pick up some things of this story and of Fever Dreams and put it in My Fair LoverMy Fair Lover. WORST, the books are related in this series! That said, I must admit the plot twist that got me biting my nails. It was good and the end was awesome. Unfortunatelly, I have fall out of love with Nicole Jordan. So much things are annoying me on her books (I think its a common ocurrence when you read a lot of books by the same author in sequence). I think sometimes her writing lazy, just a bunch of words to lead to a lot of sex scenes. Dont get me wrong, I love this part, but in NJ they are a bit excessive. The plots are good, but I dont know, they become lost in the middle. In the end, they always give me a feeling that was much ado about nothing.

I very much prefer when my romance novels have solid impediments to relationships--like murderous fortune-hunters-- and strong-willed women; this book checked both boxes. I could've done without some of the fluff after the denouement, but overall a very pleasant read.

The back of the book says an adventurer/pirate kidnaps the heroine. The first 150 pages of the book is the hero trying to convince the heroine that her fiance is a bad guy who is involved in the slave trade and an all around bad guy.

So I kept reading along hoping to get to the romance between the hero and heroine and there isn't much. A kiss here or there and she thinks he's doing it to get back at her fiance.

Heroine spends all of her time complaining about "society" and how she can't be a shipbuilder like her father or an adventurer like the hero. Ok, I understand the time period but don't be a whiner. Do something about it.

Heroine demands proof of her fiance's guilt and hero decides to kidnap her to keep her safe.

At this point, I just gave up on the book. This book had potential but it was too bland and boring. This book was a did-not-finish book for me.

This is the third book in this historical romance series, but I got mixed up and read it first. It still works as a stand alone. Antonia is an heiress, whose father's one dream is for her to marry a nobleman. Trey rejected his noble birth for a life of adventure. They met when she was just 17, when she stumbled upon him in her father's bath and she has never forgotten him. Four years later, after the death of her father, he is sent for by their housekeeper, who believes that her father was murdered by Antonia's fiance, Baron Heward. Unbeknown to Antonia, Trey is a member of the Guardians, sworn to protect the weak, vulnerable and the deserving. To protect her, he must sweep her a way to his island home until the Guardians can get the proof they need against Heward, where TRey and Antonia get swept up with each other.

I couldn't even finish it. The writing wasn't bad but the plot was completely predictable. After having read Brenda Joyce's The Prize I couldn't help the comparisons, granted the only thing the two had in common was the abduction theme, Joyce's had better written characters (or should I say more endearing?) and a complex story of revenge interwoven with the romance.

I'm a little disappointed since I wanted to love this simply because one of my first romance novels was The Seduction by Nicole Jordan and perhaps having read many historical romances and basically having expanded my horizons since then her writing just didn't capture me and the love scenes weren't as steamy.

A&T

Antonia set eyes on Trey and the world was no longer there. The charismatic sensuality of the adventurer was simply jaw dropping, leaving the clumsy long legged teen totally in awe with him...

Four years passed till they meet again. Antonia's father recently died and the family housekeeper contacted Trey to investigate the causes of his strange unexpected death. Trey used to be a very close friend of Antonia's father and was definitely determined to find the true behind the misterious death...

And the story goes dydady dydady lalala...

P.S.: For my Portuguese reading mates there's an edition entitled Fantasia Absoluta published by Marcador

A cute story with some definite hot scenes. If anybody can recommend some really GOOD romance with highly developed characters and still some steamy scenes, though, I feel like I've read through most of what's good and am now just feeding on what's decent.
