How do you trust the very thing you are running from? On the run and in need of a safe haven, fate intervenes when Jordyn breaks down in the small town of Rhino. There she finds the most unlikely of allies in the Hell’s Riders MC. Caught somewhere between accepting their help and running, she soon finds that she has no choice when Brood, the president of the MC, tells her otherwise. He won’t let her go, not until all threats are neutralized. Maybe not even then. Brood is a spin off series to the Hell's Riders. It is not necessary to have read them but for a better take on Brood's story it is encouraged.
This is a quick read. I did have trouble in the beginning as there were a lot of character names thrown in the mix. It does say this can be read as a standalone but it is recommended that previous books are read as this is where we are introduced to these now secondary characters. It didn't take long for me to settle into my stride
As an MC story, the writing wasn't really gritty enough for me, I like raw, rough around the edge biker type characters. The true 1% . That being said, I liked the story, it was a bit fast paced for me, I prefer my books to be slow burn, giving the relationship time to develop etc The story has been done a few times before so nothing really surprised me.
I loved everything about this book except for the heroine! The club put themselves on the line for her.
They have years of experience so I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing. They came up with a good plan.. she ruined it before they could execute it.
They take her back into the fold, tell her that she’s family even though she didn’t do anything to deserve it and everything’s all good until her past catches up and she runs off AGAIN!
I love a good plot as much as the next person, but come on!
*This is only my feelings toward the book, yours might differ, so give it a shot if you want to*
4 Stars (ratings break down below) for a super sweet story of a single dad living the motorcycle club life and a desperate young lady in need of escape!
This was a very different kind of MC romance than what you usually see from the motorcycle club trope, and I love it! We got a break from the usual hardcore darkness and grit of the trope and got to peek into the life of Brood, a single dad who cares A LOT about his son and his club. When Jordyn shows up mysteriously in his town (amusingly enough named Rhino--the stupidest things make me giggle!), he's drawn to her immediately, and he's happy to help her out when he discovers she's on the run.
Main Characters: 4/5 I absolutely adored Brood, though I had a hard time connecting as much with Jordyn. She came off a teensy bit cardboard at times, not seeming to have much personality despite the fact that she's suffered through so much. I would have liked it if she'd had a little more reaction to Brood's jealous ex than just being passive-aggressive afterward; it would have made her seem more human to me. Brood, on the other hand, seemed to be full of life, particularly around his adorable son.
Side Characters: 5/5 I loooooved the side characters in this story! They honestly made the book for me, and I am really hoping we'll see Roman and Pria's book soon. Of course, my veeeery favorite character was three year old Kasin, because who doesn't love a toddler with a caring biker for a dad?
Plot: 4.5/5 The plot was great, though I thought it was a tiny bit slow at times. Jordyn's background was really interesting, though, and the author kept me on the edge of my seat about what was going to happen there. The relationship side was VERY slow burn, so don't expect any fast action in this book, but I like me a slow burn. It makes a true bond seem more realistic.
Sexiness: 2.5/5 I am not a huge fan of sex scenes--I generally skim quickly through them--but these were pretty short and repetitive. I would have liked to see a bit more heat between Jordyn and Brood.
Writing: N/A I'm basing this review off the story alone since the author still plans on some more grammatical edits.
This had potential to be more than OK but just fell flat. The main characters were a bit dull and the female was annoying in her decisions. Not all that keen to continue the series.
A good beginning for the Rhino chapter of Hells Riders MC. This is a spin off of the mother chapter. It can be read as a standalone but does have some appearances from the other books. You don’t have to read them to enjoy this book , you won’t get lost. This is not a “dark" book but it does have its moments along with laughter and romance. I like dark but sometimes we need some light to balance it out. So now comes Brood, he is a tough man and a loving father raising his 3 year old son on his own. He has had plenty of trouble and heartache in his 30 + years . Along comes Jordyn walking into town with a bag full of trouble, she’s on the run and terrified. Her car breaks down in Rhino a town just big enough to spit across! Rhino is the MC's town, they have a shop and Brood runs it. They all three need fixing ! There are some shenanigans among the supporting characters with lots of laughs to go along with the “ oh no’s" . Joy Blood definitely knows how to put her characters together introducing people we want to read more about. That little Kasin is a sweetheart I’d like to see more about how his life progresses. Another good one Joy ❤ ….pat….
Basic & fairly typical. Too safe abd immature for an MC book
First book by this author and while I have read worse, this isn't great either. This is a very safe, immature take on an MC book. It's like it was written by a teenager and is lacking all the depth, heat, maturity and intensity I prefer in my MC reads. I got quite bored frequently, so it was a struggle to finish. The wording used is very awkward and stilted, while grammar and punctuation are practically non existent. Honestly it's like thousands of other MC books, even the phrases used I've read too many times elsewhere. No uniqueness to the story or the characters. Too immature, was not tempted to read anything else by the author. 2 stars.
This author's M C storyline 's always seem to check all the boxes for me They are always well written and aimed to walk that fine line between fantasy and reality successfully... making always for an exceptional experience that pull at the heart strings!
Promising start to a new MC series. Story: 4.5 Steam: 3 Characters: 4.5 Editing: 3.5 I've enjoyed this author's previous MC series and this is a worthy new chapter, although it's a shorter read and feels a little rushed past the mid-point. This is Brood and Jordyn's story. Brood is a long-time MC member with an unhappy history. He's gotten custody of his son, who is on the autism spectrum, and he's next in line for the gavel, so he has plenty going on in his life. In walks (literally) Jordyn, after her car breaks down not far from the small town of Rhino, during her cross-country flight from her own bad past. Jordyn's quickly adopted by the MC Mama Bear, and attracts the attention of several members, including Brood, who delays on the repairs to her car to keep her in town. The attraction between Brood and Jordyn quickly escalates, and their pasts catch up to them in some predictable and not-so-predictable ways, which makes for a fun read. My quibbles with the story were that, other than their chemistry, I didn't really feel Brood and Jordyn had much of a connection, particularly during the "getting to know you" phase of the story. Slow-build and steamy scenes are not this author's forte, which is fine because she tells a rocking MC tale, but I'd like a little more heat if that's going to be the thing that draws the main characters together. I received an ARC, so I'm assuming there will be some more editing before the final version is published, but having read a number of books by this author, I know that commas are kind of optional in her books. That bugs me somewhat as a reader, but I'm generally wiling to overlook it for a strong story, which Brood certainly has. Looking forward to more in this series.
Jor is running for her life. She has one shot to disappear To escape her prison
Brood is balancing fatherhood and the darker aspects of his MC and he's killing it (IMO)
Both are about to find their carefully laid plans shredded to pieces
Jor is such a ray of sunshine. She is young and that reflects in some of her choices - There were times I wanted to shake some sense into her Others she acted well beyond her years.
Brood kills me. He is such a hard arse. He lives up to his name without question. Opposite his darker tendencies regarding the MC when it comes to his family he is all marshmallow filling
The plot line is easy to follow with a couple of small turns that surprised the he ll out of me Great start to the series - I am definitely invested in the cast
Brood and Jor fit perfectly. He is almost twice her age but she is mature enough to stand at his side.
Kas stole my heart
Show reminds me of the overprotective uncle - I think he has his eyes on a fiery woman who might be feeling scorned
Roman is the big brother that keeps the peace- don't let him fool you he is keeping tabs on a certain someone
Eh, it’s a fine story and Jordyn and Brood make a nice enough couple, but I feel like the whole story could’ve been fleshed out a little more.
I wish we saw Jordyn interact with more of the MC as I don’t feel like she really became a part of it, and considering she’s supposed to be the Pres’s old lady, I would really expect her to be a bit of a tougher character and interact with the entire club more.
She also didn’t really do a whole lot with Kaisin and I didn’t find their relationship all that believable.
Brood was fine. Typical gruff and protective guy, and he’s sweet on his son. I felt like the lead up to Brood and Jordyn becoming romantic was a little iffy, but it was still fine.
Some mild OW drama but ultimately nothing comes of it. Def TW for mentions of past SA, miscarriage, body mutilation, graphic violence/death
What an amazing start to a new chapter in the Hell's Riders series. I couldn't put this book down the twists and turns kept coming and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. My heart broke for both Jordyn and Brood and all life handed them and I'm so happy they were able to find their happiness with one another. Jas well let me just tell you that little boy has captured my heart. Cammy well I hope she finds someone who wants her and moves that women runs me the wrong way. I can't wait to read more about the guys and they gals who won their hearts of the Rhino chapter.
I usually don’t like slow burn romances but this one was extremely well done. They don’t actually have sex until 75% in. Normally that would really frustrate me. But the build up of Jordyn and Brood’s relationship was extremely satisfying. It was worth the wait. The story moved along quickly. I didn’t skim at all. (I find myself doing that a lot lately). I loved the secondary characters—all except Cammie. I couldn’t stand her. I was so looking forward to the second book in this series until I read it was about her. She is the last person I want to read about. This book was great though.
This was my first book by this author and she did a really good job of immersing you into this band of MC brothers. You get a sense of the raw gritty lifestyle with some steamy moments mixed into all the crazy action packed storyline. This was a fast paced storyline that cares all the way through the book well. All of these characters of this MC seem to have some loveable qualities that make you want to get to know them each a little bit more and see what their stories are. Definitely recommend this book if you like a action packed MC book with an emotional story mixed in there.
This was such a refreshing take on the MC genre, I completely devoured it. I’m impatiently waiting for the second book in the series to come out.
The main character Jordyn has grown up around MCs of one type or another, Brood shows her not all MCs are the same.
I feel in love with Broods son from the very beginning, following his development throughout the book was special.
You need to read this book! If you even doubt it for a second just read it you won’t be disappointed. As ever I try to write this without giving anything away
This is a good one. Read it from cover to cover quickly. The relationship between the H and his son is awesome. Very caring father, young boy with developmental delays. It’s written so well. The h is on the run and doesn’t want to bring her problems to this loving little family. She does try to run. Trouble catches up, as it often will. Once agreeing she won’t do that again (I laugh) they are able to focus on their romance and zex life. Which was sweet and steamy. Over all I do recommend this book will make the time pass very very quickly
Enjoyable MC read! I liked Brood & Jordyn, really loved the sense of family prevalent in the club, and enjoyed the flow of the story. This club is a little more violent than I usually enjoy reading, so there was some skipping around during the final battle scenes. And both Jordyn & Brood have painful, emotional background stories. I wanted to hug them! There's also a fair bit of steam.
I totally loved this mc book. A girl on the run breaks down in a nowhere town and finding a support she never knew she needed. Brood was as his name suggests, a brooding alpha. No nonsense attitude, going all out for his woman. The side characters of roman and show only added to the story. Can't wait for more.
I love this book. It's gritty, packed full of action, and the characters are easily likable.
Joy understands that not all relationships are easy, or need to end picture perfectly. Jordyn has her hills to climb and who knows what will happen to Cammy.....
Brood has his club and his son and he doesn't need anything else. Jordyn is on the run from her torturer. The man that has taken everything from her. Brood and Jordyn immediately connect. His protective instincts and growing feelings take over and she learns to trust a man but won't let him die for her. Love, sex, new beginnings and violence.
This story was incredible, exciting, and just plain fantastic!!!!. It is a very moving storyline 😍with awesome characters!!!. Joy in a phenomenal writer with a fantastic imagination.
Joy Blood has become my new favorite author. The attraction & respect between Brood & Jordyn made me wanting to keep reading. Great story, hot TLC & action. Life happens but you can choose to live.
This was a new series for me. I really liked the story. Brood is a bada$$ biker who has a young son. Jordyn is a young woman on the run from an abuser when her car breaks down in Brood's town. Things get dicey and exciting from there!
A cute and quick read to get anyone out of their reading slump. I wish the main female wasn’t so self sacrificing because it basically made her seem like she didn’t care about how what she did would truly effect people. Even if she was doing them to save people.
This book felt really quick. I feel like Jordyn and Brood barely made a connection before there was instalove. Like for a girl who was abused she trusted Brood really quick. Overall a good read though!
This story was great! It was painful at times but very realistic. I love this story and I can’t wait to read more from Joy Blood. The characters were well developed and the scenes were very descriptive! I would definitely recommend this book!!
Brood and Jor- gorgeous couple. Took awhile to get them there but so happy they got together and Brood helped her rid her ‘father’. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks for the recc goodreads!
