Now available in one volume, the first three fast-paced, suspense-packed legal thrillers in the Sasha McCandless series by USA TODAY Bestselling Author Melissa F. Miller!
Irreparable Harm (Book 1)
After eight long years, Sasha McCandless is about to make partner at a prestigious law firm. When a plane operated by her client slams into the side of a mountain, killing everyone aboard, Sasha gears up to defend the inevitable civil lawsuits. She soon realizes the crash was no accident: a developer has created an application that can control a commercial plane's onboard computer from a smartphone. Sasha joins forces with a federal air marshal, and they race to prevent another airline disaster. But when people close to the matter start turning up dead, Sasha must rely on both her legal skills and her Krav Maga training to stop the madman before he kills her.
Inadvertent Disclosure (Book 2)
Six months after an airplane crash altered the course of Sasha's professional and personal life, she's focused on building her solo law practice and tending her budding relationship with federal air marshal Leo Connelly, who helped her stop a madman. When she drives from Pittsburgh to rural Clear Brook County to argue a discovery motion, she finds a town bitterly divided over the issue of hydrofracking the Marcellus Shale. Outsiders from the oil and gas industry and environmental activists threaten to rip apart the community's fabric. Then the town's only judge is murdered, and Sasha can't just walk away. As she works to find the killer, she must race to save the town before it fractures beyond repair.
Irretrievably Broken (Book 3)
The venerable law firm of Prescott & Talbott is reeling from the murder of partner Ellen Mortenson -- purportedly at the hands of her estranged husband -- when a photograph of the dead woman arrives, her face Xed out and "ONE DOWN" scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused. Sasha doesn't practice criminal defense, so she's suspicious when her former firm asks her to represent Ellen's husband. Owing Prescott a favor, she takes the case and soon finds herself representing not one, but both, of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers. The long hours jeopardize her relationship with Leo Connelly when he needs her most. That's the least of Sasha's troubles, though, because what she doesn't know is that the real killer is waging a vendetta for a past case gone wrong. And there's one more lawyer on his list.

Formerly a complex commercial litigator, Melissa graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in medieval literature and creative writing poetry and earned her JD, cum laude, from the Duquesne University School of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
After fifteen years, Melissa traded the practice of law for the art of storytelling, drawing on her legal background and love of research to craft fast-paced, twisty books for readers who believe light drives out darkness, love is brave, and kind is strong. She writes strong, resilient characters who tackle serious (and sometimes dark) issues and themes with heart.

Melissa currently lives outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with her family and their rescues—a cat and a beagle. The cat’s in charge.
A thoroughly riveting book. Melissa Illey has a great talent for leading her readers by the nose, putting out little hints throughout and then seemingly destroying her own case history as regards her clients. I would recommend this and other Sasha NcCandless books in the series. Well written and extremely entertaining..
This box set introduces Sasha McCandless an up and coming lawyer in Pittsburg. The events start with her working on a Airline Crash litigation as part of a prestigious law firm which results in her refusing a partnership and resigning and starting her own law firm. The next event has her going to a small Pennsylvania town where she is litigating a case relating to a lease dispute. While here she is assigned to take a case to prevent an individual from being declared incompetent. This leads to the murder of a Judge and she becomes highly involved in solving the case. The 3rd event has her defending 2 husbands who have been accused of murdering their wifes. The wives were partners at the same law firm where Sasha worked before starting her own firm She is hired by that firm to defend them. With a lot of work, the real murderer is disclosed.
To find out what all happened, then you need to read this series which I highly recommend.
I enjoyed this series. Sasha is quite a character, a bit of a train wreck but a dynamite lawyer. She knows her stuff. She could use a road map for her personal life, though. Leo is good for her. I liked the humor and his realistic understanding of Sasha. I often forgot she was a tiny thing especially when she was fighting. She was constantly practicing her self-defense skills (krav maga), so she was ready for any situation she might find herself in. In this series she goes from working for a big law firm to opening her own business and taking on cases she hadn't planned on or has the time for. It kept me reading. I enjoyed the stories and the endings, especially book 3. It's a series worth reading.
All three of these books are really good! They have enough in common to be read as a series, but they are each complete on it's own. These are all complex mysteries and very hard to put down. The female attorney is a great character as she leads you through her characters and the way her life tangles around her cases! I certainly recommend this trio of stories!
I purchased a box set of the first 3 novels in this series just in case I really liked it. I was pleased I did that as I enjoyed them immensely. I read the three over the period of a week or so and enjoyed each and every one. I like the romance on the side, I liked that the subject covered different scenarios and continued to build on characters from previous stories. I liked the law aspect and I liked that the heroine is a strong female.
The Sasha McCandless series Books 1-3: Irreparable Harm, Inadvertent Disclosure, Irretrievably Broken. A great set of stories. Sasha McCandless is a tiny, smart, driven, attorney. In the first book she gets involved in an investigation of the plane crash of her clients plane. Nothing is as it seems & everything she learns takes her further down the rabbit hole. Which of the client's board of directors is guilty, which of the law firms partners. And what about the Air Marshall she is drawn to. In the second she had turned down a partnership offer & opened her own office. In a small town representing a client when the judge unexpectedly appointed her as counsel for an elderly man facing being put under guardianship. Well he's sarcastic & opinionated but entirely lucid so what's really going on. The answers are convoluted & surprising by turn.
In the third her old firm retains her to represent the spouse of a partner accused of her murder. She's not a criminal lawyer, so why her? And why are they paying for his defense at all? Twisty, interesting.
I passed over this book several times. The synopsis lead me to believe it was another "formula" thriller. BOY, WAS I WRONG. The lead character, Sasha, is quite a sleeper. Quiet, and deferential in the opening chapters, but every page is a petal. Leading to the core of her determination and iron will. I loved the first book in the series, and look forward to DEVOURING the rest.
These are the types of books I wished I liked more. They tick off a lot of boxes for me: local author; numerous locales and regional quirks are familiar to me; mystery with an ongoing relationship subplot.... Unfortunately, I just find myself unable to get into the author’s writing style. There’s a lot of narrative. I keep finding myself wanting more dialog, more character interaction, and less time inside Sasha’s head.
They did get more enjoyable with each installment, and it is tempting to read book 4. I’m just not sure I want to get further invested in a series of 16 novels and novellas when my gut reaction to them is, “that was ok.” They don’t keep me up all night, but I’m not exactly disappointed either.
That said, these books may be perfect for someone else. These aren’t riddled with the typos, errors, and inconsistencies that seem to plague many of the independent authors offering up free books that I tend to read. Ms. Miller is clearly smart, thoughtful, and organized, much like the attorneys she is writing about. If anything it is too much for me. The level of detail, especially about the practice of law, leaves me wanting to skip large passages. And I can’t help but feel like she’s writing these books for other lawyers. After all, we all give a book extra points when we have those moments it feels as if an author captured an event in our own lives with uncanny accuracy. I’m sure this book does just that for many lawyers - current and former - that will choose to give these books a try.
As for me, I’m stepping away from this series. Apparently I read another series by the same author a couple years ago. I vaguely recall having the same “more showing, less telling, please!” reaction to them. I think I’ll reread those to assuage my curiosity.
Intricate legal thrillers. Characters are well developed and interesting. Have always admired Krav Maga, was interested in how the character defends herself. MS
I don't take the time to give reviews normally, but, this series gives you everything you could ever want in a good book. At 70 years old and an avid reader, I like romance, mystery, humor, and a good challenge of "who done it". You will not not be able to stop reading.
Usually I only get the free kindle books even if it's a series. I am going to have to get this entire series. The author mixes in the legal side of our leading lady, Sasha who as a lawyer finds herself in mental, legal, and physical situations that at under 5' tall and a little spitfire has you cheering her on. This series has it all. The characters are so well developed that you feel like you know them personally.
Books 1 and 2 were good. Nothing very exceptional but a strong character and decent story - which is enough to carry a series. Book 3 was also good if not for giving up on the mystery quite early in. However, - - - SPOILER ALERT - - - in an attempt to have a 'twist' the end was botched. A person with an alibi supposedly does something. And there is no attempt to explain how the alibi was faked (which would have been difficult given what we k ow of the timeline and circumstances). Something about the whole twist just seemed so very unnecessary.
I purchased the 3book special each book was riveting! Holding my attention throughout it was good to read how Sasha was able to defend herself being so small. And how she followed her cases standing up for herself. Very enjoyable!
Fun to read. NOW REMEMBER it is NOT a historical novel, and in order to enjoy ANY detective story or legal thriller or spy novel or western one must willingly suspend some amount of disbelief about fist fights or pistol shots or else the story would be much too boring. So, it occurred to me, a 71 year old geezer who has been in all of MAYBE 6 physical fights in his life that poor Sasha fights more often than I change my underwear! And yet...I happily convince myself... it COULD happen... and the story moves on.
Importantly (to me anyway) there are breadcrumbs leading back to the no-goodnics. Epiphanies are logically backed by events (bredcrumbs), very few 'stretches of probability' such as... "word on the street is that the head of General Motors kicked his dog last Thursday" or some preposterous other 'word' that could not possibly be known to the underworld and yet somehow solves the protagonists dilemma . That is, the stories are plausible. The action appropriate to the tasks, the characters are believable and not so flat they are simply and obviously 'devices' to move the plot along. And there are lots of believble characters to know.
It is fun reading with plausible plots with complexity and excitement.
Oh yeah, did I say "I liked this book. I think you will like this book. This is a good book. If you read this book then you will like this book".
Thank you for making this 3 individual, complete stories! I'm seeing a new trend to create multiple books, from one story, then charge the reader for each part. I find that underhanded. You are awesome!
These helped to take my mind off of personal problems, which is a lot of the reason I read. Escapism.
I was evacuated, because of a forest fire and prayed my home would be saved, but felt guilty, because that would mean someone else's might not be.
Being evacuated is expensive, with a family and pets. You can't do things the affordable way, and cook at home. You aren't comfortable, so sleep is tough. We'd hoped it would be quick, but dragged 3 weeks.
Thankfully my house is fine, but I feel horrible for the many who lost everything.
Your stories weren't raunchy, like a lot of books out there, so they were a pleasure to read. I can't wait to be able to get all the rest, after I pay down my credit cards. Lol
This3 story box set by Melissa F. Miller, stars Sasha McCandless, a litigation attorney with the firm of Prescott & Talbot, who, despite her diminutive appearance, is a powerhouse -she's studied Krav Maga for a number of years. People also seem to underestimate her legal skills when they come up against her in court - but only once. These three stories are connected, but each could be read as standalone mysteries/thrillers, as Sasha solves some seemingly innocuous legal cases which become very complicated the more she delves into them. I really enjoyed all three stories and am looking forward to reading more of the adventures of Sasha and, hopefully, seeing more of Leo Connolly - a Federal Air Marshall who appeared during her first case (and was one of those who initially underestimate Sasha's self defense skills).
Melissa Miller has created interesting characters - a great combination of characters I really like and want to know more about and characters who are rotten people and provide the right kind of tension. Not too many of those "don't go into the basement by yourself in the dark when you know a brutal killer has been seen in your house!!" moments. Super plots and fascinating detail about the life of an attorney in a huge law firm and in a single -lawyer office. I love the extremely capable Sasha and the wonderfully well-rounded Leo. Want to learn Krav Maga but am probably too lazy so I'll just keep reading about Sasha 's exploits.
What fun to open a book and see that the first paragraph states that the plane is over Blacksburg, VA when I'm living in Lynchburg, VA. Then, we head to Pittsburgh, PA with the lawyer from Sewickley, PA where I was from as a child and young adult!! The entire area came clearly into my mind. The plot moved quickly and filled the pages with excitement.
Books 2 and 3 were equally exciting. Sasha McCandless is a fun, strong, determined lawyer who exceeds her normal daily schedule helping solve the mysteries that fill her daily work. Will need to continue the series for more adventures. Sure hope she finds her way to the love of her life though!!
I have read the three books in the series and have found an author who not only writes a story that held my attention but also made me feel like I wanted to keep reading her many other books. She keeps the perpetrator a mystery until near the ending better than many other writers and she has a style that I thourghly enjoy. I was surprised that for someone I had not heard of before, could make me a fan and want to keep reading other works she has written. I highly recommend to everyone who enjoys an easy writing style and believable characters to start with this series of books and I am quite sure they will also be looking to read more of her books.
This was a freebie or near freebie set I got and I let it set for a while. After clearing out my "more urgent" reading I started in on the the volume set. After about three or four chapters into book one I was hooked. Ms. Miller's writing style, character development, story lines and story telling abilities just grabbed me and the collection just pulled me in and dropped me here! This author knows how to write a riveting story. It's too bad the rating system only had five stars! Kudos!
I loved reading these stories and found them hard to put down. Would recommend for any one who likes a fast moving story with well developed characters. The reader must suspend logic to believe that a less than five foot woman under 100# could possibly overpower a much larger person using a form of martial arts, but that's part of the appeal of these stories. Impossible in real life but fun to read. I especially liked that there were no explicit sex scenes. The author did not rely on them to sell her story.
Series Contains Books 1, 2 & 3 of the Sasha McCandless Stories - Very Kick Wss
Read as barely 5' tall attorney at law fully trained in Krav Magra aka Israeli military martial arts. Sasha can kick ass in the court room or on the street. Note Bene: she is not a criminal defense attorney. Nor does she do wills and trusts. She can still find herself in a variety of very unique situations that are highly disturbing which makes fpr.great reading! No witchcraft, paranormal activity or outer space sci-fi here whatsoever. It is highly engaging and well sorted deep read.
A really entertaining new female crime solver series, at least new to me.
Sasha is a Corporate Attorney who somehow finds herself inadvertently involved in criminal cases usually involving murder. And though she goes kicking and screaming at least from a legalese point of view into these cases eventually she takes them head on providing more umpf to the than the authorities.
I would highly recommend this series and this packet of stories.
I have never read any of Melissa Miller's books, I'm hooked!! These two were amazing. I am so now going to get the next in this series. I will also look for other books by the author. I already told my daughter about the books and will be sharing it with her. The plots were so believable. The characters were great. I can't wait to read what happens between Sasha and Leo.
This series is really really good. I finished this book in a few hours, couldn't put it down at all. Sasha is amazing at handling cases and I was really thrilled to see Leo become her unofficial partner in solving these cases too. For the first time in a long while, I really want to purchase the entire series and can't wait to read the rest of the books! :)
