4.5 stars ~ An honest review from a pro Tarot reader for 17 years ~

TLDR: Affordable and easy for beginners, but don't limit yourself to this one guidebook. Get Essential Lenormand by Rana George too if you need expanded interpretations and more reading techniques.

I chose this set because it was an affordable and informative package to try this type of Cartomancy for the first time, especially with the included exercises. There’s a wealth of info that’s easy to understand.

Reading Lennies is simple and straightforward compared to Tarot — it’s like constructing a sentence vs painting a mural while incorporating the various structures of a building.

There are benefits to simple readings, especially if you need a quick, plain answer, but I don’t really feel the same mystique as with Tarot.

The deck is small and uncomplicated featuring pastels, thin card stock, and traditional insert/poker cards. Those with small hands or desiring a travel deck will enjoy the size.

The deck also renames 28 The Gentleman and 29 The Lady with gender-neutral titles, The Querent and The Partner.

The guidebook mentions author Alexandre Musruck regarding reversals: “The 36 cards have enough information and stories to tell — you don’t need another layer of 36 that would come with adding reversals.”

This is true with Lenormand, but a common misconception about Tarot reversals. Reading Tarot with only upright cards gives BOTH the “upright” and “reversed” meanings all at once — there aren't separate or “reversed-only” meanings because all 78 cards were designed to represent every aspect of life, therefore the "reversed" meanings are already included. The traditional way to determine "upright" and "reversed" meanings was to consider well- and ill-dignified Hermetic Elements like in Book T by MacGregor Mathers (Golden Dawn), but somewhere along the way, the physical orientation of the cards became the norm while reading Elemental interactions became lost to most. Reversing cards simply allows the modern reader an easier way to pinpoint the “Yin” or “Yang” aspect of a card without knowing Elemental interactions. Since Tarot and Lenormand are different systems, reversals are treated differently between them.

That being said, I found that using the insert/poker card meanings in this book for Lenny reversals can work. This’ll allow me to learn both Lenny and piquet (“stripped”) deck meanings at the same time.

Also, a shoutout to the author for attributing sources! While there isn't a bibliography, per say, Lyons includes quotes throughout from other Lenormand books, and suggests books and sites for further study.

If you’re looking to try Lenormand, I highly recommend this all-in-one set to get you started! If you're looking to jump right into a bigger, more comprehensive guidebook, get Essential Lenormand by Rana George and a deck with better cardstock!

Ok, so I didn't really understand what I was getting when I won this book and cards but it's super cute and fun! I've done 2 3 card fortunes for my mother and I and cannot wait to dive further into this world and learn more about it. Thanks for the introduction in a sweet and accessible manor.

This is probably the most affordable deck & guidebook Lenormand set in the market at the moment that contains a companion book with so much information on the subject. It is really a great starting kit for a beginner. However, although it is a very well-written and well-thought-out book, it is not a complete guide. Techniques like: knighting, mirroring, diagonals, and the Method of Distance are not included in this book.
However, it is a good thing that the author included a list of suggested reads and sources for further studying.
I would highly suggest this kit if you are looking for a cute simple deck and an easy-to-understand guidebook that covers the basics (and a bit more!) :)

Wasn't expecting to enjoy this little book so much. I read Rana George's (fantastic), Lisa Sutton Young's (great book), Alexandre Musruck's (quite to the point), and a few more, and learned a lot from each of them, but I have to say this little book is sweet and clear with some great combination suggestions, and on top of it, it comes with its own cute little deck attached to the inner cover. Even though it may not be everyone's fave artwork, the cards are uncluttered, easy to identify, the colours are bright and happy (even for the negative cards), and that makes it a better deck to use than many with elaborate but ambiguous artwork. I can unreservedly add it to the Lenormand reference collection.
