Presenting poses for anyone who spends way too much time waiting!
Waiting is a gift. Be glad when you’re stuck in traffic or put on hold. Be grateful when the waiting room is full. Give thanks to the date that never shows up on time. Why? Because now you can turn mindless waiting into moments of mindfulness with stretches and poses to build up your strength, poise, and flexibility.
From ardha chandrasana at the traffic lights to simhasana in a traffic jam, this book introduces you to yoga—in real-life situations. Judith Stoletzky aligns helpful tips and humorous advice with precise instructions. You don’t need a yoga studio, fancy yoga pants, or even a yoga mat to practice yoga. All you need is normal, everyday life and a little bad timing. After a while, you’ll develop an amazing attitude both inside and out!
Paired with Markus Abele’s photography, these 30+ yoga poses will give you something to do with all that extra time spent waiting around. Yoga While You Wait has the ideal pose for every pointless pause—from beginner to experienced and for every body and level of flexibility. You might even find yourself looking forward to the wait!
Eu fac sport extrem.
I'm frequently do tree pose while I brush my teeth, so I felt like this book was right up my alley. It gave me a lot of ideas for poses I can while I'm doing chores around the house, like half angle while cooking dinner or a malasana squat while working in the garden. A few poses felt a little gimicky for a cool photo, like savasana in a graveyard or a forward fold in a grocery story, but the photography was really beautiful. This probably isn't the best book for an absolute beginner, but as long as your familiar with a few basic poses I think you'll be able to follow along.
I feel like this made me more aware of how I can incorporate yoga into little moments throughout my day.
It's a fun and interesting book. Some reviews were hating on it, but it has a lot of great info, and injects humor. It shows you really can be in the present moment, stretch and take care of yourself anywhere you can find the little pauses between things in life, vs just time passing while waiting on things like the bus etc...incorporate yoga into little moments throughout the day.
Some of the poses / situations I can't see people trying in the locations they were pictured in. Example supported shoulder stand Salamba Sarvangasana in a laundromat with underwear (knickers) on full display.
Despite the silly tone of the book, the descriptions of the poses are actually well done. The book helps you find the humor in life. I think people who are truly yoga aficionados, enthusiasts, would get more out of the book than your average person would. Someone who really wants to go more in-depth like a die hard yogi who appreciate humor. I don't think the book is for an absolute beginner as an introduction. While the poses are explained in detail, some of the poses are for people with more experience, say an intermediate or advanced yogi's. As long as your familiar with a few basic poses I think you'll be able to follow along though.
I like the approach of getting someone who may be intimidated by yoga, more interested in it. A way to try simple mindful movements throughout the day. Perhaps for those with budding interesting, things can even evolve into something more challenging and rewarding. A way to pause and find the stillness within the dance.
The photos are composed and well done. They look believable and show the final pose being demonstrated/suggested.

When I saw this title, I wasn't initially sure if it meant literal yoga or mental stillness. Either way, since I struggle with waiting sometimes, I thought it could be useful.
This book is a delight. Each "waiting" scenario, whether stuck in traffic or at a bus stop or hoping for sunnier days, has a yoga pose and a title. The titles are often just as delightful as the poses.
My particular favorite, especially given how COVID has made us all more wary of being too close, is "waiting for the common cold" because the expression on the woman's face is so dry and long-suffering.
The way the photos are so real and genuine, professionally framed and composed yet still looking like believable family snapshots, is one of the things I love most about this book. Creative, delightful, and also instructive in how to get through the waiting times.
Truly a cute and easy read. This book uses humor to present some basic yoga poses that can be done when there is no yoga mat in sight. I like that they give the Sanskrit name and some of the benefits of each pose. The authors have found a way to introduce yoga to the newbie that has always feared they weren’t flexible enough to do what they assume is yoga. It is also a great reminder, for those of us that have practiced for years, that we can tap into that peaceful parasympathetic nervous system whenever the need arises.
I loved this book! It is smart and funny in a wry, quirky way. The photographs and situations are fabulously creative and the message is profound, as it suggests alternative ways to respond to life situations. The actual yoga asanas are well-explained. I highly recommend this book!
A fun look at yoga through the eyes of our daily lives with pauses for health and humor. I recommend this book as a gift or fun addition to your coffee table or bookshelf. Enjoy the opportunity to add yoga to those moments during which you are doing nothing but could be doing something.
I won this book through a Goodreads Giveaway. It was whimsical and amusing with fun photographs. The descriptions of the poses were actually well done despite the silly tone of the book.
Parcouru en français. Photographies rigolotes de postures de yoga dans des endroits incongrus. Poses expliquées. Un chouette ouvrage qui exploite un concept ingénieux sans se prendre au sérieux .
THANKS so much! Simon and Schuster and Judith Stoletzsky @simonandschuster @yogawhileyouwait @jstoletzky for my copy of Yoga While You Wait ~Finding Purpose in Every Pointless Pause. It's a simple, little guide for learning a new,fun way of incorporating easy yoga poses into the pauses in one's daily life that are inevitable. ( think standing in line at the bank, sitting in the waiting room at the dentist, sitting in your car in traffic etc. ) it's not a guide for the diehard yogi. It's just a way to get those who may be intimidated by yoga but want an easy approach to begin trying simple MINDFUL movements during their day. Then maybe the "Yoga While You Wait" method can evolve into something more challenging and rewarding. #gifted #bookreviewpost #yogawhileyouwait #mindfulness #easyyoga #selfhelpreads #bookrec #bookreviews #yogabook #practiceduringapause
