Mystery, Suspense, an edge-of-your-seat Thriller with characters you’ll fall in love with. An old-school, heart-pounding, coming-of-age Horror Series with 100s of 5-Star Reviews.
In this fourth installment of the Bane County Series, we pick up where Book Three left off:
The people of Silver Canyon were still reeling in the wake of a massive winter storm that descended on their small town… and the endless night of unbridled terror that accompanied it.
Bryce and Jackson, along with Sheriff Culley, were still picking up the pieces after the tragic event, and preparing themselves for new horrors that were sure to come.
Farther west, along the coast of northern California, a different threat continued to grow, becoming more deadly by the day. Only Travis and Luther knew the true nature of this unspeakable menace, and they struggled tirelessly to find a way to stop it.
To the east, in Atlanta, Dr. Shearon Santiago with the CDC was preparing her team to depart for Bane County in search of the origins of an emerging retrovirus. They'd soon learn that this new assignment would be the toughest of their careers.
Other people were traveling to Bane County as well. The YouTube video of a shadowy beast had gone viral. Thrill seekers from all across the country were heading to Silver Canyon in hopes of getting a glimpse of the strange creature.
With the winter blizzard finally receding, the stage was now set for a new kind of storm… a storm that would change the face of Bane County forever.

Whoo! Review time. God, could this series get any better? I have to admit when I got to the end and found out there's only one more book in the series I was so sad. Bryce and Jackson are friends of mine at this point. That's how amazing all these books are. They suck you in. They're written in a way that you feel and taste and hear and smell every interaction. But, as I'm gushing I was sidetracked. Let's talk about THIS book. We are finally seeing the effects of the worst case scenario: The werewolves have gotten out of their cave system and the trail of bodies has made its way out of Bane County completely. We fight by the side of familiar faces and hope for a cure when the CDC steps in to lend a hand.
Anywho. I'm going to go back and start at book one again to hold me over until the 5th book is released. And if you're reading this review: trust me, you want to do the same. Pick this series up. Do it. Thank me later.
What a fascinating take on the Werewolf genre I read books 3 and 4 twice well i just started my second read of the 4th book. The first started out with horror in mind not so much science and such with even a hint of the supernatural but as the series progressed so many genre's got mixed in and what a wild bag and the author actually does something very rare he made it all work. He makes Stephen King look like a 4th grade writer he's just that good. When reading the 3rd book for the second time there where things written in there that scared me to death. Without giving away spoilers if anyone who reads this review and has read the books especially the 3rd one if hearing tap tap tap on a window doesn't scare the shite out of you nothing will! I literally threw my tablet down and had to recatch my breath because the tension the author created in that scene was terrifying only a few books has ever done that too me. I highly suggest people spread the word on these book's. Read them yourselves and get the word out this author deserves a life of luxury and should already be a top seller. Good job to the author please write another one and another and another. Show the Hamilton's and King's of the world this is what scary stories really look like. One complaint I do have there's no audiobooks to go with these. Hope someday that will change would love to hear a good reader read these books on audio also one last thing would love to know more about these Werewolves and what there drive and perspective is. They are an ancient species in these books and highly intelligent what would there history be? I love imagination
This novel is another excellent installment, further developing the backstory and still having the exciting pace.
My only criticism would be that the frenetic pace and action has necessarily slowed down due to the need of plot development. This isn't a criticism that causes me to remove a star, but just a comment of how the series is changing (evolving).
I think my comment from my previous review is even more applicable - this series would be excellent material to modify for a movie trilogy, or a cable series/show. Great job Author Rice!
Loved it, just the right balance of good/bad guy deaths. I even liked that there were kids in the mix. Very tastefully described. Can’t wait to read what adventures our 2 favorite heroes get themselves into on the last & final book!!
5 days ago I reviewed Bane County the first book of the series. I have finished books 2-3 since, and just now completed Bane County 4 Hungry Moon! I must say I am so EXCITED and impatiently waiting for the release of Bane County 5! Cant wait to see how this story ends!
I have mostly enjoyed this series so far. I do however wish the werewolves were fed at least as often as the protagonists sit down to eat and drink. And for that matter, I wish the werewolves were given more of a starring role, instead of the occasional cameo appearance.
I absolutely loved this book, it was a great addition to the series. Loved the the new characters, and the growth of the current characters. J R Rice is an excellent author!
J R Rice continues in book four of this series in the same vein as book 3, it’s another enjoyable werewolf romp with Bryce & Jackson. Entertaining, funny and gory a good mix. What more could you ask for. If there is one criticism it’s the ending, or lack of it. These stories keep on going, just when you think it’s all over. A good thing for some as your guaranteed more of the same. There’s just the danger it could turn into another never ending story like ‘ The Walking Dead’. But for now they still hold my interest.
If you like horror that’s light and entertaining but has ample quantities of blood and gore then you could do worse than the Bane County books. Just don’t go there for your vacation!
I read a great deal of actual science (geology, biology, physics, environmental sciences, etc.) and science fiction. I love it when the fiction contains so much real science! The Bane County book series is one of great melding of the real with the imagined. I am reminded of Dune, Voyage of the Space Beatle, and the works of Arthur C Clarke. Thankfully, readers like myself can, on rare occasion, find books with so much real science to explain the the amazing story details. Truly, a great achievement!
I can't believe how this horror story keeps getting better and more macabre, but it does. How JR Rice keeps up the suspense and a track of all the wonderful characters, I just have no idea. There we're so many nail biting moments, I just couldn't out the book down...not even to eat my dinner, which was quite tricky. One chapter that saw innocent victims become werewolf food was particularly stomach churning and harrowing. I'm about to start the last book and although I can't wait to see how it is resolved, part of me is sad that my time in Bane county must come to an end, werewolves and all.
This is a great series of books. The characters are well developed, and JR. Has a way of throwing in little technical details that keep the story interesting. I Would recommend these book to anyone who loves horror. But especially to those who like werewolf horror.. i can't wait to read the next one.. Great job Mr. Rice.....
I rarely read books that have a continuing saga. Babe county is that rare exceptions. The characters are real and really funny despite the tending and trading of flesh. I highly recommend this series of you are a fan of exceptional characters and things that go bump in the night 🌙!!
If you think the last book was good, wait until you read this one, whatta an ending!!! More characters, gruesome deaths, tons of jokes and a turning point you didn’t expect. I can’t believe I have to wait a few months to read the next chapter of this Amazing saga. Werewolf’s will never be view the same el way...
Werewolf horror is my favorite genre and I have read most of the available books out there. I can say honestly that the Bane County series is at the top of my list of favorites. This has a refreshingly New concept on the typical storyline. The location and setting of Bane County as a realistic place is great and gets your imagination flowing as you create a visual of this geographical place. The historical narrative also catches you. The idea that there could be a place like this that has existed over time that has slipped through the clutches of civilization. The dark secrets that it holds and the threat that it possesses. I can't get enough of this. Thank you JR Rice
The Bane County series takes classic werewolf lore and mixes it with contemporary science along with political intrigue. This is the best of the series so far. If you love classic thrillers with some science and movie monsters thrown in....this series is for you! I can’t wait for book 5.
I've now read all four book one right after the other. I fell in love with the characters and couldn't put it down. I cant wait for the 5th book in the series. The author is one of the best scifi writers I've read.
I stayed up all night to read this one and it didn't disappoint. Once again we've got beyond tense situations and plot twists being thrown at us. There are horrendous decisions and lead-ins to future mayhem and carnage. And through it all our favorite cousins are getting stuff done! I cannot WAIT for the next one! BTW, do yourself a favor and read this series. I honestly don't know how I missed it.
The bane county books are all excellent!! I feel like the character development could not have been better. I feel like I live there and know everyone very well. I felt like I was part of the town. On saying this, it is devastating I have finished the 4th book! I will miss my "friends". I can't wait for the fifth book to come out. Thank you J.R.Rice for the great series!!
If your a fan of crypto or sci fi or just Lycans then this is the series to read. It is well written, keeps the reader immersed in the book. I’ve read every book and can’t wait for the next one! Each book is believable and exciting!
I love this series, I wish Hollywood gift would get off his dead ass, and make movies out of this in the other books I’ve read, instead of fast and furious 95. Start with book one and go to the sherries it will blow your mind. JR rice male or female, is awesome, author☠️🖤💀💋⚓️🎃
You did not go there with this 4th book. I will withhold judge till I read book 5. But then I am a Vet from the Vietnam era and you know how much I trust the military and the black side of things. Still a good read
This is the fourth book in the Bane County series. Highly recommended as are the preceedi g first three in the series. The series is a continuing saga. It's not your typical werewolf story. This is so much more! The author, JR RICE, has done so much actual research into the epidemiology of viruses and I had to keep reminding myself it's fiction. The main cast of characters remain throughout the series. The characters are just as lifelike and memorable as the story line. Each new edition is like a reunion with old friends!
