A professor of archaeology hurries to uncover a circle of stones before construction begins on the spot, until he begins having nightmares and finds himself catapulted into a menacing world where the edges of reality are not firm.
I could not finish this book. I tried, I really did, but I gave up halfway through. I couldn’t get a line on any thread of tension; there was no build up. The author just leapt into the action and ultimately it was flat flat flat. Nor could I care about the protagonist. Disappointing.
This book manages to take a subject I'm kind of interested in, and make it head-slammingly dull. I didn't like the protagonist. He wasn't that interesting to begin with, so when things started happening and he turned into a raging jerkface, that overwrote everything else I might have been told about his personality. And all the other adults in the book were interchangeable; after turning back twice to the page where everyone gets introduced, I just gave up and let it ride. It's not the worst thing I've read this year, but I'm glad it's over.
The fact that Connie stayed with Peter after he basically raped her was actually crazy. Everyone pretending like nothing happened. It was so unrealistic. Idc if he was under supernatural forces… everyone just casually pushed it aside?? What?? Bro stabbed someone and they kept on being buddies.. ok. Two stars for the cool concept of an American Stonehenge.
