She was a laughingstock.

A hippie. A tree-hugger. A granola, crunchy, millennial who worried about how her food was grown and what she put into her body and GMOs and . . .

Had a secret chocolate addiction.

Because even though she cared about all of those things, a girl had to live too. And Rebecca couldn’t live her life without 90% Cacao Super Dark Chocolate.

Addictions aside, it was her job to help keep the players on the San Francisco Gold healthy and she was damned good at it, so her hippie, granola background (and maybe also her PhD in Nutritional Sciences) had come in handy, at least to some degree.

Especially since the team had taken home the league’s top prize last season.

Unfortunately, not everyone thought her contributions were important.

In fact, some people—cough one Dr. Gabe Carter—thought her position with the team was unnecessary. He thought her diet was too restrictive, her meal plan too out there. He’d actually told Rebecca that her program hadn’t been an important factor in the Gold’s successful season.

But dammit, she knew she’d made a difference with the team, knew her work was important, and it didn’t matter that Gabe was gorgeous and a talented doctor, he still didn’t have any right to—

Kiss her.

No.

Kiss her or make her feel small.

Yes, that. The second one. He was a jerk. She didn’t like him or care about his opinions and she definitely wasn’t in love with him. Definitely hadn’t been in love with him the moment she’d laid eyes on him—

Sigh.

She definitely was.

And to make matters worse? Gabe knew.

4.5 *happy sigh* Stars!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this not quite enemies but probably more like antagonists who moved into friendship and sailed to romance journey! Rebecca and Gabe made me all kinds of happy and their story was heartfelt with just the right blend of angst and emotion. They were the perfect half of one to one another. As the story progressed from friendship to more and more, I had a smile on my face because they were just so darn well suited! They were endearing and their journey had me turning the pages way quicker than I wanted because now there’s no more words!!! *sad face*

Elise Faber continues to please me more and more with each book I pick up by her. She’s a multi-faceted author that I can enjoy no matter what type of story I’m in the mood for! #win

enemies to friends to lovers.
it takes four months for them to kiss (but it doesn't drag), and it takes that long because he knew she wasn't prepared, and that's so cute and thoughtful

Elise Faber has a game-winner with Checked (Gold Hockey #7). This is Dr. Gabe Carter and nutritionist Rebecca’s story. It is suitable for adult readers. It takes place around the same time as Breakout
(Gold Hockey #6).

Rebecca and Gabe both work the San Francisco Gold NHL team. Their characters have appeared in prior books. Rebecca suffers from anxiety and is introverted. Gabe is very focused and opinionated. The two did not see things eye to eye, causing conflict in the workplace. After they get to know each other, they discover that they have some things in common and begin to confide in one another.

Checked is a heartfelt and entertaining story. I love how good Rebecca and Gabe are together. They both grow as a result of knowing the other person and become stronger individuals. They are a charming couple. I enjoyed the hockey nutrition and medical aspect of the story. The epilogue made me anticipate Coop and Calle Stevens’ story next. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Rebecca is always looking for new and innovative ways to ensure that the hockey players have the best tools to remain healthy. She has created a healthy diet plan for the team but once again the man that she always finds herself at odds with is trying to belittle her efforts.

Gabe is the team doctor and doesn’t believe that her new diet plan will be effective or that she will be able to get the players on board but when he investigates it further, he begins to see the merits of the plan and her efforts.

A friendship develops between them and the more that Gabe learns about Rebecca and what she has overcome the deeper his feelings for her will become but will he be able to convince her that he loves her just the way she is?

I really enjoyed both these characters as Rebecca has a strength that will inspire you while Gabe is so patient and understanding.

Y'all its finally time for Gabe and Rebecca story! These two are hot messes in there own ways I was wondering how they would work together. Its fun seeing them both draw the other one out and each opens up differently. There friends are all for them dating and moving forward. When Rebecca has a back step and almost crashes he has to pull her outta it and prove that he truly wants her for her. I was really surprised after it all she still pushed him away. When she finally snaps on her sister its like her eyes finally open fully. I really liked the ending.

Yay finally a real epilogue, so sad that it makes me so happy. Gabe and Rebecca are a surprisingly great pair. Does Gabe start out behaving like a prepubescent boy pulling the girls he likes hair, yes he does but he more than redeems himself. Rebecca has crippling anxiety but probably the baggage around it weighs her down more than anything else. It was lovely to see this group of women find each other

Rebecca is the team nutritionist who has a goal of making her hockey team the best health wise. Gabe is the head trainer who has a crush on Rebecca. I like how they became friends and how Rebecca slow worked to change him to vegan. Gabe and Rebecca had a slow burn relationship that went from enemies-friends-to lovers. I need to read the backlist of this series.

Checked (Gold Hockey Book 7) by: Elise Faber

Faber throws readers off their game with humor and delivers heart to back it up. Checked is a fight to the finish that thrives from it's unpredictability. With two strong personalities, things tend to get hotter than a jalepeno on the fourth of July. Sexy and sassy make irresistible.

I loved the slow burn of this one. Considering they've both had bad luck in the love department, it was fitting that they took their time getting to know each other. I definitely could not get enough of these two.

A Happily Ever After, unexpected love and Hockey! It is for sure a hat trick for me.
This is a slow burn romance. The relationship develops over the course of several months. It is well written, so it does not feel like it is overly drawn out. The characters are well written with enough depth to keeps the readers interest. This is more than just their romance to are both warring against their own personal demons.
Team nutritionist Rebecca suffers from crippling anxiety. It takes a lot for her to step outside her normal box. However, Dr. Gabe Carter helps her do just that all while slowly falling in love with her. Not only does Rebecca haver her own demons but Gabe more so. Gabe's past story had a sad ending but now it's time to focus on his future and take the blinders off. These two balance each other. There is a charm about them that keeps the reader engaged.

There is something special about Gabe and Rebecca’s story. He was the foundation she didn't know she needed. She helped remove the scales of sadness from his eyes and helps him see the bright future in front of him. The hope and the potential of love. Their relationship and attraction helps bring a balance to their lives. Rebecca’s evolution in this book was extraordinary. I really enjoined both character’s development.
Checked is the love story we all need. The romance and characters will have you loving love and believing in HEA! This is solid a 4/5 read for me. There were a few drags in the story line but the characters keep you engaged.

I received a complimentary ARC - early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.

I am a newer fan of this author and I have only read one previous book in this series, but I was easily able to follow this story even without reading the other books in the series.

In this story we meet Rebecca, she is the teams nutritionist and we meet Dr. Gabe who is the teams doctor. Rebecca has decided the team needs to go Vegan to help them play hockey better and Gabe calls her out in a meeting about this issue.

So there is a little hate on at the start of this story. But its not a hate to love romance. Gabe actually after he looks into it finds that it is a great idea and he goes to Rebecca and wants to form a friendship and this story is actually more a friends to lovers story than anything else.

Before I go on I want to tell you, I have never read a story like this ever before. I have read hockey romances and even doctor romances but I have never read a story about a character that has so many issues but still tries to lead a normal life like Rebecca. Gabe was in awe of her in this story and so was I. I am very impressed with the author and how she wrote this very unique storyline.

Rebecca has anxiety. Not pop a pill anxiety but where she is anxious in any and all social situations. But she pushes herself and she has managed to make a wonderful life for herself . Enter Gabe who really likes her but also sees this and realizes that she needs friendship before anything else.

So I picked this up like April 9th and read probably till/on the 10th ... got to about 70%... 74? 75? in ?

And then I stalled. For days. Until today.
I listened to 2 audiobooks in between and read another book as well - The Unwanted Wife- again.

This book ... Rebecca- I already hated the description as treating her like a "woo woo hippie [idiot]" but whatever. Moved past that. Then her crippling anxiety.
It was a bit annoying, but I was trying to be sympathetic - I have anxiety too and Rebecca is at least trying to get treatment, has a therapist, lives life at least to some degree - great job, got her blog, a book deal, friends.
Not bad right?

Then her developing relationship with Gabe - which once he gets his head out of his ass he's ALL IN and he is willing to take things S L O W - "just friends" for 4 month ...

But he does go all in but like ... I just wasn't sympathetic to their break up/not breakup. It was like watching a slow moving trainwreck because YOU KNEW it was going to happen and be ridiculous and ugh.
And it was.

Thankfully it resolved quickly - by like 80-something percent, definitely 90% [the app was acting up which was annoying so I couldn't pinpoint it.]

Gabe and Rebecca really are perfect - they fit.

But I just wish it hadn't been so eyeroll. Especially with all that progress. I also hate unilateral decisions in a relationship.
I DID like how Rebecca "told off" her older sister - who was an asshole.

And then the sweet moment with Gabe at the end. <3

But still. Bleh.

Poor Rebecca has had a hell of a time trying to get her nutrition plan approved by the team doctor, Gabe. She isn't sure why - her plan is solid, the research backs it up, and everyone else seems to approve but him. Too bad for her that he's so freaking gorgeous that she almost can't stand it. Luckily, he's such an ass, and her anxieties make it impossible for her to hardly be near him, so he's really no trouble for her, with the one exception that he's standing in her way of making the team healthier. If only he'd tell her the real reason he has such a problem with her...

But lo and behold, Gabe apologizes and somehow the two end up becoming really good friends. Of course there's a serious attraction, but it will never be consummated. Right? Because Rebecca's anxieties are't just something frivolous, they're real, and not something that can easily (read, never) be cured, and Gabe would never want to be with someone so full of anxieties. Right? Wrong. But in order for them to be together for the long haul, she'll need to fully let him in and let him love her. The only question is, will she? Is she capable of it? Or is she just too messed up to be in a relationship with such a good man like Gabe?

This is a wonderful installment of the Gold Hockey series. I love how Gabe and Rebecca end up in a great friendship that turns into more. They're so good together, so sweet, and the sparks, whew! Hot! Although slow burn, this is definitely a sexy tale and Rebecca and Gabe are awesome. Cannot wait for more of the Gold Hockey world.

The Gold Hockey Series continues with the next Rebecca. Nutrition – Rebecca. She’s been struggling with sexy Dr Gabe for a long time, but isn’t it said that hatred is also a form of love … Rebecca has no self-confidence at all and is extremely shy, and she deals with anxieties. Everybody can probably understand this, if not in this extreme form. It was sooooo great that Gabe was so careful and supportive to Rebecca. This was the best therapy for her: find yourself, fight yourself and find your limits. Gabe is a wonderful character who does exactly the right thing for initially wrong reasons. As always, the writing style is fantastically clear and to the point.

I love this series.

Rebecca and Gabe had a tempestuous history, to put it mildly. Working for the same organisation Gabe routinely shot Rebecca's ideas down without just cause. As a nutritionist for the Gold hockey team although wholesome, her foods were stereotyped to be unflavoured and were generally frowned upon. Gabe could support her decisions and make things a lot smoother but chose instead to make her work more difficult than necessary.

When Rebecca encounters misfortune, Gabe happens to be able to provide a helping hand. Initially, Rebecca is skeptical of Gabe's offer of assistance. Are his intentions really just to offer a helping hand? From this one good dead can Rebecca and Gabe see that they are actually on the same side? And develop a friendship that could potentially lead to something more?

EXPERT

"Wine."
"You drink wine?"
"It's organic."
Gabe smirked. "Of course, it is."
She glared.
He laughed. "I'm teasing."
"You're not," she muttered. "But if you're not a jerk about it, I'll let you have a glass."
Hands rising in surrender, she said, "I'll be on my best behavior."
"Sure, you will," she grumbled but told hem where the glasses and bottle, along with the opener, were.

I love it when happily-ever-afters happen for people who never think they will get one. This is exactly what happens in Checked. Nutritionist Rebecca suffers from crippling anxiety. It takes a lot for her to step out of her normally safe box. However Dr. Gabe Carter heps her do just that all while slowly falling in love with her.

This is a slow burn romance set over four months. However the author does a great job of writing it so it doesn't feel so long and drawn out. These two each have their own personal ghosts, Gabe more than anything. Gabe's past story had a sad ending but now it's time to focus on his future and take the blinders off.

I adored these two. He was the strength that she didn't know she needed. She helped open his mind to new and interesting aspects. They were the yin to each others yang. I just loved watching Rebecca grow. She was just so amazing. Looking forward to the next book in this series as each book just seems to get better and better. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review. *

Hockey romances are my jam and Elise Faber’s books are my peanut butter. Talk about a win win combination! “Checked” her latest addition to the Gold Hockey Series features an interesting twist to the classic hockey romance trope.
This book focuses on Gabe, the team’s Head Trainer and Rebecca, the team’s Nutritionist. Both are beautifully damaged, misunderstood souls, navigating through life with no small amount of difficulty. Rebecca strikes a nerve in Gabe and his knee jerk reaction is to treat her poorly. Rebecca for her part suffers from anxiety. Coping strategies get her only so far and allow her to lead a somewhat normal life.
Things come to a head when they are forced to acknowledge their growing feelings for one another. First they make amends, then they become friends, then they become lovers. The journey towards their happily ever after isn’t always an easy, but it truly is a heart felt one. TBR this fantastic read and enjoy. (I read an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.)

Checked is Book 7 in the Gold Hockey series by Elise Faber . This is Team Nutritionist Rebecca and the teams Head Trainer Dr. Gabe Carter's story. The relationship develops over the course of several months and it's a slow burn romance. Rebecca suffers from a really
debilitating anxiety. Gabe has his own issues that he deals with. Gabe was a total PITA towards Rebecca in the beginning but things changed when Rebecca did/said something that made Gabe open his eyes and see how he was acting.
They started to spend time together and the feelings started to change and grow between them. But something is holding Rebecca back from going further. Will she open up and take that leap? Will she let Gabe in or will their enemies to friends to lovers romance just slowly end with a whimper or will she have faith and go all in? These are behind the scenes main characters in hockey team whose story is full of feels, love, passion, heartache, angst, twists, hope, laughter, bravery, and romance. You don't want to miss this story.

Rebecca has a Ph.D. in nutrition and is working at her dream job. However, she has crippling anxiety, has proposed a new a plant-based protein diet for the team members and has a huge crush on coworker, Gabe. Gabe is a medical doctor that is the head trainer for the Gold hockey team. He is an all-American meat and potatoes type of guy that butts heads with the “hippie” nutritionist for the team. Although his past is haunting him and they are constantly at each other’s throats, he can’t deny his attraction to Rebecca.

I truly enjoyed this story. It is the seventh novel in a series about the Gold hockey team. Reading the previous novels in the series is not necessary. The author mentions couples from the previous novels, but the reader is not confused, and understands the mentioned couples have their own novels. The relationship between Rebecca and Gabe starts off with a bang. The changes in Rebecca as the relationship develops is so sweet. The dialogue exchanges between all the characters was funny and entertaining. This novel was delicious to me. I enjoyed every minute of it.

As the nutritionist for the San Francisco Gold, Rebecca is in her dream job - but the team doctor has been a thorn in her side for years. He's shown a general lack of respect for her work, and her contribution to the team.

Gabe can admit that he's been especially hard on Rebecca - especially once he starts to get to know her, and sees first hand the crippling anxiety she suffers from. And once Dr. Carter decides its time to put the past behind him, to get to know Rebecca, her realizes what an all around jerk hes been, and how much his actions have hurt her. And once he knows just a little bit about her, he wants nothing more than to become everything to him.

Checked is a sweet and romantic enemies to friends to lovers story - a slow burn as Gabe tears down the walls, and helps Rebecca to see what an amazing woman she is, not in spite of her anxiety, but because of it. Gabe had a lot of redeeming to do - but man, he put in the time and attention to get his girl. This is a must read in the Gold Hockey series - go one click your copy today!

Gabe isn’t her enemy!

Rebecca has no problem making meal plans using only plant based proteins for the team but when head trainer Dr. Gabe Carter said no, things start going off the rails with her severe social anxiety because she didn’t like talking in front of people. Dr. Gabe Carter didn’t that the players would eat Rebecca’s meal plans but he agreed to try her plan.

Rebecca and Gabe didn’t like each other much in the beginning; she realized maybe there was more to him when he kissed her. Rebecca is someone that needs a partner that understands her and wants to love her as she is and Gabe becomes the person that she needs.

Checked is a book that could be read as a stand-alone but you would get more enjoyment reading all the series.

Short and sweet

Loved this story. Both characters Gave and Rebecca have suffered traumas in their own rights and have coped differently. He closed off and shit down when faced with the reminder of what he lost. And she just isolated herself from all hurt and possible loss. Loved the fact that despite her pretty severe anxiety she still was fierce and had ‘spice’ as Gabe likes to say and told him off when he was being an ass without considering her research. Once they called a truce and became friends they were adorable together. And balanced each other beautifully. Didn’t like the slight angst but it’s needed for the pull of the book but I hate that it was a forced pain that didn’t need to be suffered because she wasn’t ready to accept his love. But loved them together.

I enjoyed reading a book where the MCs work for an NHL team, yet are not hockey players.

During the scene where the women come over to Rebecca's apartment, I kept expecting to learn which women were lovers. It turn out they are all in f/m relationships, none in f/f. Maybe I've read too many (or just enough) m/m romances set in the worlk of ice hockey.

I was put off by a few things. At one point, Gabe refers to himself as a twa*-waffle. A waffle should never be stuck up one's twa*. Why did he refer to himself in terms of female genitalia?

Rebecca's sister is 18 years older than Rebecca. Rebecca's parents were together for 20 years. It sound like Rebecca's father left when Rebecca was 10. The math doesn't add up or I am missing something.

Mandy seems like a force of nature. I enjoyed watching her interact with Rebecca and Gabe, separately and together

Rebecca is trying not to let anxiety take over her and stop her from living her life.
Gabe is constantly clashing with Rebecca about her hippy vegan nutritional thoughts for their team of hockey players.
When Gabes frustrations see him declare that he likes Rebecca, and wants them to be friends the dynamics of their relationship changes and Rebecca is suddenly doing things her anxiety would never normally let her achieve, things as small and simple as going for a meal without fully investigating the menu and place she was going to.
I don’t know alot about anxiety and haven’t read any books that touched on this subject before so it was an insight for me and an interesting new thorn in a budding relationship.

This is the first of Elise Faber’s books I’d read, and, after finishing it, I went off to find more, it’s that good to read. To me, well-written characters make a good book, just as much as the story does, and Gabe and Rebecca are delightful. The way Rebecca puts Gabe in his place when he gives her her own research is, I think, my favorite scene from this book. Rebecca’s anxiety and her immensely courageous struggle against it make her one of the most relatable characters I’ve read, and Gabe’s empathy is respectful and endearing. This is not insta-love; it’s a nuanced and well-written exploration of their relationship and growing love. As I said, I’m heading off for more!

I received a free copy of this book and enjoyed it. This review was posted voluntarily.

I’ve become a huge fan of Elise Faber and love the Gold Hockey series. Gabe and Rebecca did not
Disappoint!
Gabe is one of the team trainers and has been a little snarky towards team nutritionist Rebecca and her plan to get the team on a vegan diet. But beneath his snide remarks we find that he is drawn to Rebecca, first by her looks and then by the fire deep within the shy and anxious woman.
The two spark an friendship that allows them to slowly get to know each other. This friendship also allows Gabe to get closer to Rebecca while she grows more comfortable with the relationship.
Anxiety rears it’s ugly head and the two have to decide if they can truly love despite their flaws.
This was another “Gold-en” read and I’m looking forward to the next couple!!

Checked is a feel good story and the two main characters, Gabe and Rebecca are genuine and endearing. They both work for the Gold hockey team as support staff; Gabe is the team doctor and Rebecca is the team dietitian.

Rebecca is smart and works hard, but unfortunately, she suffers from severe anxiety. I admire how hard she tries to battle her disability. Her dream has been to work with athletes and she has achieved it.

I loved the way Gabe treats Rebecca. He is always patient and kind and thoughtful with her. Gabe and Rebecca are two lonely souls who have been hurt in the past and it is entertaining watching them fall in love. I enjoyed this heartwarming story and all the entertaining characters.

Rebecca knows she's a lot of work, so getting into relationships - platonic or romantic - is not even on her To-Do List. Her job with the Gold hockey team is her dream, but workmate Gabe Carter presents way too many complications to her ordered existence.

Trying the friend angle, Gabe works his way into Rebecca's routine so he wouldn't spook her. But all too soon, he realises that his true feelings for her can't stay hidden forever. In his endeavour to do things right, will he scare her away?

I really enjoyed this book. It has the perfect mix of deep/heavy emotion and humor. It's a moving story, and one that's sure to keep you believing in love.
