At times the travel diary is a little boring but there are some hidden gems. Most of all it is interesting to read about China before it's great transformation. I wish there were more photos in the book.

Fairly dull text by Spender, enlivened by Hockney's art and photographs. Interesting as a record of China in the early 80s.

enjoyed reading about Spenders & Hockney's thoughts on each city and intereactions with artists and children. Written in 1982 before Tiannamen Square. Beautiful drawings.

The poet Stephen Spender and the artist David Hockney go to China. Amazing tales and beautifully illustrated.
