Esper and her ever-expanding group of freaks set out to confront one of the most powerful sorcerer families in the US. It turns out Toma’s brother is missing, someone out there is powerful enough to make an entire nest of vampires disappear—oh, and Toma’s family are a bunch of assholes. With all the political bull and the thinly veiled threats against Esper’s kind, it’s almost a relief to leave Toma’s family behind. Too bad the only help she has cleaning up the sorcerers’ mess is one small medium, one overly-emotional vampire, one busty werewolf, and one guy who doesn’t even have a body of his own.

Oh, and then there’s the weird familiar with boundary issues.

Just another day in the life of the world’s most awkward necromancer.

Author’s Note:

Fed up with the usual tropes in romance and reverse harem? I wanted characters that are more than the fainting female and alpha male cookie cutter stereotypes that saturate the genre. (There’s nothing wrong with it, if you like that sort of thing, but it just got old for me!) People come in all shapes, sizes, personalities, and gender/sexual orientations—so when I pick up a book and have trouble telling the difference between the characters…that’s a problem.

*The Reluctant Necromancer series is a sequence of novellas between 35,000-40,000 words in length. While the main plot arc in each book will be resolved, there may be mild cliffhangers/segue into the next book with new issues arising.

*This author’s characters are as flawed and damaged as real life—do not read if you are easily offended by talk of past trauma of any kind. This includes uncomfortable situations of any kind—sexual, physical, mental/emotional. (No explicit scenes of this nature, generally, but they will talk about what’s happened in the past and it may be distasteful if you are easily triggered). This book specifically references past abuse.

*Contains mature adult content, including but not limited to: graphic sex, adult language (that means swearing, folks) and fictional situations with some gore and or action/violence.

*This is a reverse harem urban fantasy, and the author firmly believes love is love, and as such includes themes of: polyamory (multiple lovers), MF, MMF, MM, FF, and MMMFF love.

Sometimes our greatest strengths come from our deepest challenges. I write magic and romance, starring a cast of creatures with feathers, fins, and teeth. My books include paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and fantasy romance--with the occasional steampunk or alien story thrown in just for kicks. My pan heart firmly believes love is love, so you'll see straight, LGBTQIA, monogamous, reverse harem, and poly relationships in my work. My favorite theme is overcoming our inner demons and the insecurities that hold us back.
I also advocate for self-development and mental health and dabble in non-fiction as time allows. I love the outdoors and still hope to be abducted by fae! (I may have more in common with my characters than I care to admit.)

I love this author, she’s one of the few that I’ll buy without reservations.

Quirky characters and lots of humor.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Our “murder”, nest, pack, harem, is such a treat!! I love our 6 characters that love each other, and their families - which we get to learn a lot more about in this one! Book 4 of 6 is action packed (we still have lots of character development and spice too)!

We face a formidable foe, the collector, and it’s all well done! So well written, and I liked the aggressive pace of this one. We still have very careful care and attention to our relationships (LOVE that with this author!!), but the action really ramps up here!

Necromance

I don’t think I can explain just how much I like this story line. Have a bunch of misfits turn out stronger than the normal people and to be able to rub it in their faces! I will definitely be keeping track of this story.

Unfortunately, my interest in this series is waning. Esper doesn't grab me as a compelling enough character (even aside from her constant mental put-downs of herself) and the larger world-building is being drawn out too slowly.

Might give the full series a second chance when it's complete.

Funny and annoying

It's a good story, don't get me wrong. When you are so wrapped up in a story that you get mad at the FMC and agree with her cat, it's a good book. It's a lot of fun to read. I will be sad when it's over..

A series with no boundaries!
I honestly just adore this series - you've got a bit of everything in regards to the paranormal flavour BUT all the rejected ones. I'm loving seeing E turn into this bad ass Necromancer and can't wait to find out what happens next!!

Enjoyed

Well I am kinda upset about the main character. She hasn’t helped her brother yet. But still a good read.

4/10. Too much gaping. All of them at one point standing around with their mouths open like slack jawed yokels

All the drama llamas in this book. So much happens with Jazz and Toma’s family and finding out more about Esper’s past. It’s a crazy mixed up world and she’s learning her place in it and how to stand up and be her own person
