Keyara Henderson’s life takes an unexpected turn when more than half of her vision deteriorates due to diabetes. With limited vision and assistance in the form of a walking stick, Keyara’s next step in adulthood isn’t the same as girls her age. Everything she once knew has been taken away from her, especially her independent spirit. In an effort to regain it, Keyara opts to attend Georgia Southern University, a prestigious university with a drive long enough to prevent her from having anyone to fall back on. Although he has reservations letting his daughter roam around a college campus with limited assistance, Keyara’s father relents under two one being that she must stay in an assisted living facility, and the other requiring her to employ a chauffeur. By chance, she’s paired with the handsome Marquez Richardson. Born to a superstar father, Marquez “Rich” Richardson has lived up to the hype surrounding his last name, using it to bend the rules and escape trouble. After his son was caught in another drag racing/drunk driving scandal, Marquez’s father has had enough of his son’s irresponsible ways. He revokes his driving privileges before the police can do so. To drill in the importance of safe driving, he piles on a lesson to pair with this acting as Keyara Henderson’s chauffeur. From the first day he begins walking her around, Marquez feels as if his social status is in jeopardy. The parties he once attended and the girls who would flock to him are put off by Keyara’s presence. Although this is a problem in the beginning Marquez warms up to the determined Keyara. The problem standing in his way, his girlfriend Cajua Taylor.

I have a lot of things to say about Connected To You and none of them are good. This book was horrible. It was so poorly written, I'm having a hard time believing it was written by an actual adult. My 17 year old niece could've done a better job. Not only that but, the entire book was just a huge grammatical error. From the first page to the last page, there was absolutely nothing grammatically correct about the writing. I wanted to like this book but, the errors were such a distraction. It was painfully obvious this book saw no parts of an editor. I almost DNF this book several times but, I fell down a rabbit hole and had to see how this storyline played out. Some of the characters actions were so unrealistic. Especially Keyara. She went from being a shy inexperienced 18 year old virgin to bussin' wide open like a porn star two hours after she lost her virginity. Her personality change was night and day. And, the amount of unprotected sex Keyara and Marquez were having was ridiculous. Everything about these characters were so farfetched, exaggerated, and over the top. I'm also not understanding why the author had two characters the same name. That just created confusion. Connected To You was not a good book at all. The writing was embarrassingly bad and the storyline just didn't come together very well. I'm honestly befuddled, baffled, and confused at all of the 5-star rating because, this is not a 5-star book. If this had been my first book by Endiya Carter, it most definitely would've been my last. Fortunately, her writing has gotten progressively better with each book she's put out since then so I will continue to support. But, this author should strongly consider pulling this book and rewriting it because, it definitely needs it.

I’m a HUGE fan of Endiya…HUGE. Prior to this read she could do no wrong in my eyes. I’ve read 10+ books in her catalog and she just gets it as an author. Her storylines are intriguing and draw you in and let’s face it, the spice be spicin’. With that said, this was hard to get through! I expected so much more and this was a huge let down. Im glad this was not an introduction to Endiya because I would have missed out on her talents. I’m used to reading stories that are a bit out of the box because after all it’s a book and sometimes authors create from their imagination but the story of Keyara and Marquez was far fetched and unrealistic at times.

She was a sheltered visually impaired 18 year old college freshman that was finally allowed a bit of freedom to attend college without being smothered by her father and was provided with a chaperone to help her navigate campus and her classes.

Her chaperone was the college senior and son of the schools president Marquez. He was a wreckless yet well sought after football player and was assigned to help Keyara as a punishment for being pulled over for speeding.

He went from hating her, tripping her and stepping on her glasses without remorse, allowing his friends to clown her and taking her to the basement sandwich spot all to avoid being seen with her. Then out of nowhere he suddenly sees something great in her and wants her romantically… how sway!? There was no build up to this sudden interest. And let’s not even get into her loosing her virginity and turning into a whole BDSM teen who loved anal beads and everything in between. Now I get it, you get a taste and start laying it low and spreading it wide but there’s no way that sheltered Keyara was THAT experienced THAT quickly.

I’ve read a few books where the female lead was visually impaired and it was written with more class. Most of the book was spent bullying Keyara and talking ish about her disability. I get the joking and name calling from the jealous ex but it could’ve been written in a way that didn’t completely demean her. Marquez was so full of himself and as a 22 year old senior had no business fooling with Keyara. She was too vulnerable, sheltered and naive and he took advantage of her, you can’t convince me otherwise.

The writing was also weird. I’m not sure if it’s the way the narrators conveyed the story but it had an amateur feel.

The last 5 chapters of the book somewhat saved the book. The book was too long to have had such a weak storyline and most of the book lacked substance. I can see Endiya’s growth as a writer so I won’t hold this against her.

So after reading the synopsis I thought this would be a cute little romance, however I didn’t get what I expected. 18 year old Keyara, who has low vision and considered legally blind is headed to college. 22 year old Marquez, the star quarterback and son of the the university’s president is selfish and can’t stay out of trouble. As a punishment, he’s paired with Keyara as her chauffeur and guide around campus. The story nor the chemistry between the two were believable. Marquez was very cocky and arrogant. Keyara was this inexperienced good girl who turned porn star with her very first experience. This was an audible listen and the narrators detracted from the story and the different pronunciation of the female character’s name between the two narrators was disturbing. This one was a miss for me.

I really enjoyed this story....I did think for 18 & 22 year old college students they had a lot of adult sex...LOL...they were extremely advanced (18 year old was suppose to be a virgin)....Nevertheless, I did enjoy the story line of a low vision person navigating her way through her college life independently...that was an awesome change with regard to a fresh storyline. Marquez was a total a-hole to her initially; but, the story soon developed....it kind of developed abruptly in my opinion...but, he did reveal that he was "feeling" her from the very beginning. I enjoyed the quick witted banter between the two...they each had very smart mouths....This was a good story with decent narration.

This is my first book by this author. I’m listening to it on audio and I wish I had not. The female narrator…I’m sorry…is HORRIBLE!!! She makes the characters sound bratty and it’s irritating. I pushed through but it was a struggle. I’ll try another book but will definitely physically read it.

chile..

talk about an unexpected story.

for some reason i envision keyara to look like an older version of lavender from matilda lol.

but lets get into it! overall this book was good! i could not stand marquez and his rude ass friends almost the entire book.. to me he was always ashamed of keyara in front of them which was dumb because who are they? in the end i dont think he deserved keyara but.. we love a hea right? lol.

keyara was a sweetheart. -a FREAK. but a sweetheart & my girl didnt play with that cane! i loved seeing her confidence despite her disability & how understanding she was. too understanding sometimes but i digress. they fell in love quick so im not surprised she took him back so fast.

cajua.. how tf do you pronounce this?! she shoulda got hit by the car lol.

overall i enjoyed this read & cant wait to discuss in my book club!

Tropes: bad boy/ good girl

TW/CW: Ableism, Bullying, Chronic illness
Miscarriage , Grief, Medical trauma
Misogyny, Panic attacks/disorders, Abortion

Representation: black romance, chronic illness rep, disability rep, visual impairment rep.

Thoughts: there are so many things wrong with this book… where do i even begin. lets start off with the horrendous amount of ableism in this book!!! that alone pissed me off. but the way this book was all over the damn place i still cant tell you how it all made sense. and its also the fact that this man was a liar at all times and preyed on this girl because she was young and dumb. this is one the big reason why i dont read new adult romanced (and i didnt know this was one until i had started reading it). this author had a great premise with this book and i was so intrigued but the execution was awful. this is one of the few times that i wish i wouldve read the reviews before buying.

3.5 stars? The plot was over the top, but it was entertaining and kept me reading. The shift from enemies to lovers was too quick/easy, and at the end of the story I wanted to see more groveling from Rich…less telling and more showing that he accepted accountability, was remorseful, and that he truly deserved Keyara. (I read on audio and would recommend.)

This book was different from the normal romance and I loved how Keyara’s eye condition was a different story to tell. I love her strength and her ability to not back down from those who saw her as weak no matter their status. Such a cute story.

Not my favorite Endiyah Carter book, it was okay. Not a fan of young FMCs in general (her age ends in ‘teen’). I enjoyed the beginning of the book when the FMC was standing on business about the MMC acting like a jerk toward her initially. But he charms her of course and they start dating. She quickly becomes very insecure (because they start dating before he breaks things off with a girl he's been sleeping with for years). Also be prepared for a surprise (but not really a surprise) at the end 🤦🏽‍♀️ Lawd. 💕

Nothing in this book makes sense. Why was everyone so overly mean to Keyara? And just trash in general?
Marquez did no work to prove to us and Keyara that he changed. There was also no indication prior to them hooking up that he thought she was attractive enough to pursue. This whole book was a stretch.

a rollercoaster ride!

Was this story a lil unrealistic? Yes! Do I read for reality? No!!

Therefore, I really enjoyed this book even tho they weren’t my favorite tropes. Any book that gets me turning the pages and not putting down until it’s complete, is always good in my eyes.

Keyara let him turn her OWT! Okay?!!! Baby girl, turned into freak nasty 🤣🤣🤣 I did like how she spoke up and stood up for herself. Despite her disabilities she didn’t wanna be pitied and stood on business about that!

Do I like Marquez? no! He was awful especially in the beginning. But that’s her man and she sticking beside him! I softened up to him towards the end. He really did a 180 on us.

The Richardson family took a great liking to Keyara, accepting her with open arms and treating her as one of their own. Their kindness and support were a refreshing contrast to the resistance she faced from her own family.

While I understood Keyara's parents' concerns, I couldn't help but feel that their overprotective approach only pushed her further away. Sometimes, the best way to show love is to trust and support your child's choices, even if you don't fully understand them.

Overall, everything worked out and I love how everything ended!

not written very well

Marquez is a careless, spoiled senior football player who doesn’t care about anybody but himself. Keyara is a freshman with diabetes that’s left her visually impaired, needing a guide to navigate her. As a consequence to an irresponsible decision, Marquez has been tasked with being Keyara’s guide. Keyara is fiestu and as independent as her disability allows.

The FMC has a disability and the book brings awareness to daily issues and insecurities of the disability.

Some parts just didn’t flow or weren’t believable. If Marquez was suspended from a game he would still have to be there. Keyara went from “I’m not ready for sex” to bussing it open in 2.5 seconds. Marquez also did NOTHING for her to lose her virginity to him. She also went from virgin to pornstar in a six hour time frame. No. Also, not a fan of him cheating. How is her snack time at 10:30 but shes sleep super early ? This relationship/friendship didn’t happen between the pages so it was hard to feel endeared to Marquez or stan their love for each other.

Writing was a bit immature and choppy and the dialogue was childish. I have read several of this authors books and her writing has gotten significantly better.

This story follows an 18 year old visually impaired young lady, Keyara Henderson that is navigating through her first year of college away from her hometown in Savannah, Georgia. She meets Marquez "Rich" Richardson by him being her chauffer. The pair did not hit it off initially because Rich only was chauffeuring her around because his father was the President of the school and made him do it because he's been getting into so much legal trouble. Rich had to keep a clear record if he was going to be considered as one of the first round picks in the football draft being that this was his senior year. I did like the story but there was a lot of parts that were a bit preposterous. It's like they went from hating each other to immediately loving each other. It didn't happen gradual which made it a bit unnatural. Also, the relationship with Rich and his ex girlfriend Cajua was a bit weird. There didn't seem to be anything there. Her character lacked development. I guess she was just there as the antagonist to cause conflict, however the problems she caused was a bit boring. Although, I can see where this author was going with the "enemies to lovers" trope, I feel like the story just wasn't the best in that sense.

I agree with a few of the reviews I’ve read about this book. I do believe the storyline was good but could’ve been better. Kiara went from being a smart freshman who couldn’t stand Marquez (understandably) to losing her virginity to him and being in a “relationship” with him. The 180 comes so quick and seems a tad unrealistic for someone with her wit. I would’ve liked to see the friendship develop first and then lead into a genuine relationship making the loss of her virginity more realistic and a bit sweeter. I have enjoyed them talking about her disability but the jokes are reality of how cruel kids really are (sadly). Kiara reminds me of a naive 15/16 yr old girl who just got her first boyfriend and starts making bad decisions regarding a boy. Also the type of sex so to say was lowkey off putting lol. These kids are having sex like they’re grown grown but are only babies playing house. I expected her to have a little bit more shame. Walking around freely with the passion marks with his parents there and then messing around in these ppl house. Idk lol maybe it’s just me and my upbringing. I could be thinking too deeply. I feel like the plot should’ve been for older characters. The storyline definitely could’ve been better. It was an alright book.

I tried to like this book, I really did. I loved the idea of a legally blind FMC. I also loved the enemies to lovers trope. But the execution of the storyline fell flat. She's a virgin. When she loses her virginity she just becomes a freak overnight. Wth? Then she sex him with no condom? "Cum in me daddy..." like seriously? The MMC is the President of the university's son. The president unleashes the mmc on the fmc to act as her servant/walker. He has a girlfriend who is psycho and jealous of the fmc. Even though the mmc is 22, he's free to have sex at his father's house in his pool? That just seemed mad disrespectful. Then they spend the night at the dad's house and she sleeps naked. Dad brings her clothes and a toothbrush? All of this seems farfetched to me.

This 18 yo and 22 yo having all types of big grown sex. The girlfriend blackmailing the mmc. Mmc records them having sex without telling the fmc. Too much dumb sh*t going on. Wasnt in the mood for this ridiculousness.

Disappointed!

This storyline was so far fetched. Everything was so exaggerated and over the top. I was so annoyed by two of the characters having the same name. It didn’t do anything to add to the plot. It just created confusion. Marquez’s demanding personality was meant to be sexy, but it was off putting for me. I had planned to give this book 2 starts, but the last 25% of the book almost redeemed it. This is not the first book that I read by this author, so I definitely had expectations for something better.

Ok so I didn’t hate this book but also didn’t love it. I didn’t care for the female narrator and the storyline started to get corny. Some of the things that happened I was like “wtf” 🥴. Keyana was ok but some of the stuff she would say was a bit ridiculous (but that could also be because she was 18). Overall it was just ok.

The story, for the most part, was very good. The pace was nice, the characters were developed, there was just enough heat. I also loved that this story centered around a young woman with a chronic illness and a disability. The story was written beautifully.

Finally a storyline I been asking for! Keyara is a young college student who lost her vision and being chauffeured around school by the star football player, Marquez. Keyara was a very fiesty character and she was my favorite throughout the book. I loved her independence as a disabled person and she didn’t let nobody stop her from achieving something or let them bully her. I’m happy Marquez got his act together and saw Keyara for who she was. He blew me throughout the book but he definitely learned his lesson. It had errors throughout the book but the story was amazing

I don’t know

This story had a great premise. The side characters were overbearing to no end and I understand that the FMC was disabled but it was just so annoying how everyone was trying to control her and have a say so on everything she did and the parents I can understand but her bestfriend was very annoying. Also the MMC was not my favorite. Overall story has a good premise but needed some more development.

This is one of the best books I’ve read. I loved that Key didn’t let her disability stop her from living a normal life. It took losing Key for Rich to grow up. I’m glad it all worked out for the best💯💯💯⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved the concept of this book just based off the synopsis alone. For those that don’t know me irl I have worked with a group of people with low to no vision for well over 7years at my current employers so I was all in on this reading.

Marquez “Rich” Richardson the handsome, popular football player with a bad boy streak. He has book bae written all over him. Keyara “Key” Henderson the feisty and independent yet sheltered young lady that is new to the school. Who happens to have low vision. You know that she is the one to root for throughout the reading, if for no other reason that she had a slick mouth.

This book had a lot of spicy which I appreciate as I am scorpion by nature. And the growth we see from Marquez was really dope. He was the one I was rooting for before the end of this read.

I did have the audible companions which may have been why I had some issues with dialogue. The narrators - specifically the female did not deliver a great performance to the point where I turned off the reading and just read the book. I still think the dialogue at points felt a bit immature for the characters but the performance I had going in my head helped to save this read for me.

It was unnecessarily confusing that two characters shared a name and there was a lot of repeat explanation of things depending on who we are talking to which was repetitive. For example; As a reader I already know how she lost her vision to have it said to multiple people from the same character felt weird. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I will say that it was a solid concept for a love story that was entertaining which why I am offering 3.5 stars ✨ for the story but the audible 2.5 stars ✨ just because of the female narrator.
I do have another read from the author so I plan on diving into that one soon.

Loved it!!

When this book first started, I haaaattteeed Marquez! I was so convinced that there was no way that I would like this guy especially after the way he was treating Keyara. But Keyara definitely could hold her own! Despite the bullying and rude antics from Marquez and his friends, she never let any of that get her down. She was so comfortable with her disability, that the nonsense that came her way never mattered! The way she would tell Marquez about himself had me cracking up and cheering her on. Marquez wasn’t used to a woman calling him out on his mess and instantly became intrigued by Keyara. She really made him take a look in the mirror and made him realize that despite all his popularity and status as #1 NFL draft candidate, that he is not truly a good person. They had so many bumps in the road and obstacles. Mainly because Marquez had to be okay with defending his relationship with her in the public eye and changing his irresponsible behaviors. The storyline and character development was amazing! Keyara was such a great female lead! She was tough, smart, witty, and had a huge heart. I loved this story! Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Could Not Put It Down!

When I say this book was good! It was GOODT!!!! This is my first time reading an AA romance where the heroine is blind. I didn't know what to expect when I started this story, but Keyara is my she-ro! This girl never downplayed her limitations, but she didn't let them stop her from living a fukk, vibrant life. She had such an inner light, that's what drew Marquez in. He took the long way around maturing to the level that he could fully appreciate a woman like her, but he really did love Keyara. And the passion between those two *fans self*, yes Lawd! I think it was probably for the best that the break happened. Because when they reconnected, it was because they both wanted it and were in a better place to be their best selves for each other. I loved both families, especially The Richardsons. This was my first book by Ms. Carter, but I am already a huge fan! Definitely 5 🌟Stars!
