Baby toes, moonlit seas, soft lullabies, and night breezes are all part of The Drowsy Hours, a collection of sixteen vivid nighttime poems, including "The Moon's the North Wind's Cooky," "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod," and "Lullaby." The velvet words of great poets Vachel Lindsay, T. S. Eliot, Elizabeth Coatsworth, and others are Just right for bedtime reading, and Peter Malone's stunning paintings are sure to fill any sleepyhead with sweet dreams.
This is a collection of soft, soothing poems that are good to read at bedtime. Our girls enjoyed the poems, although our youngest only wanted to hear one or two at a time. The collection includes some rhyming poems and some that don't rhyme and features some highly recognizable poets. The illustrations are wonderful, filled with images of wonder and fancy.
Format: Picture Book Interest Level: Early Elementary
This book consists of sixteen poems for bedtime. There are colorful pictures to go along with each poem. This is a calming book to read aloud to young children. The poems deal with a variety of late night topics.
I liked the variety of poems used in this book. There are poems written by several authors. This would be good exposure to different writing stlyes and the fact that not all poems have to rhyme. This would be good to use at the end of the day and to close with.
