The Baby-Sitters Club Graphic Novels #8

Logan Likes Mary Anne!: A Graphic Novel

Rate this book
It's the first day of a new school year, and while Mary Anne doesn't know what to expect from the eighth grade, she's looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. One thing she definitely doesn't expect is to meet Logan Bruno, who just moved to Stoneybrook!

Logan has a dreamy southern accent, he's awfully cute... and he might be interested in joining the BSC. But the baby-sitters aren't sure if Logan would make a good club member, so they send him on a job with Mary Anne as a test. Logan and Mary Anne hit it off, but Mary Anne isn't sure of where their friendship could go. Life in the Baby-sitters Club has never been this complicated -- or this fun!

The Baby-sitters club is about to start a new year at the school. They have all had a fun but busy summer and they are ready to tackle new challenges. Kristy comes up with a new idea to get more business but can business be too much business? It turns out yes it can be as our six baby-sitters struggle with filling up requests and keeping up with their school work and personal lives. Until they are joined by two new recruits who recently moved to the town and the local school.

This was another fun addition to The Baby-sitters club series with gorgeous, colorful, and uplifting illustrations. I liked how Mary Anne is becoming more confident but it felt a little rushed in my honest opinion. I also didn't see much chemistry between Logan and Mary Anne. It was good but not my favorite in the series.

is it normal that seeing tigger made me cry?

this is one of my all-time favorite bsc books, and the adaptation was pretty faithful. the main change was that this book saw the introduction of jessi, which was great! no blase and harmful plotline of racist neighbors, just good ol’ fashioned jessi and mal bonding over horse books and such (and foreshadowing charlotte and becca’s bff-ship to come).

This graphic novel deals with young romance in which one of the partners is really shy. For those who are shy, this can be very relatable.

Gale Galligan wraps up her tour of duty on the Baby-Sitters Club graphic novel adaptations just as she is hitting her stride. Shy Mary Anne gets all excited and anxious as new boy in school Logan Bruno starts paying attention to her. A warm and fuzzy little story about dating in eighth grade.

I was kind of rapt to discover the Baby-Sitters Club books in graphic novel form as I’ve only ever come across the chapter books. It’s a fun and quick way to read about your favourite Babysitters. Excellent for preteens. The art work in Logan Likes Mary Anne! is stunning.

4/5 stars: I really liked it!!

Back when I was in sixth grade, The Baby-Sitters Club was one of my favorite series. I especially loved the graphic novels because I could actually see my favorite characters come to life! I kept up with most of them, but I always remembered this one as my favorite. 🥰

Now that I’m older than the characters (they’re in eighth grade and I’m well into high school), I still really enjoyed Logan and Mary Anne’s relationship — even if they were a bit young.

I’ve always loved how, when Mary Anne chooses to love someone — whether it’s her best friends or later, Logan — she starts to open up and grow more confident.

And Logan?? Logan SET THE BAR for my younger self. He was so caring and understanding, and always put Mary Anne’s feelings first. Total green flag.

Their relationship in this book is still one of my favorite book-romances ever (yes, I know it’s a kids’ book — shh, they’re adorable). This is honestly one of the only books in the series that I’ve read more than once!

Coming back to the series after forgetting most of what happened in the others was a little weird at first, but the graphic novel did a great job of catching the reader up.

Oh, and one last note: this artist is BY FAR my favorite so far in the series. Gale Galligan’s style is the perfect mix of cute and realistic — and Logan was just… **swoons**.

I love this book so much!! 🤩🤩

Logan Likes Mary Anne was a graphic novel about Mary Anne and her journey to break out of her shell. On that journey, she meets Logan who helps her with her shyness.

I enjoyed the previous Baby-Sitters Club books more than this one. This one felt inauthentic to me because Mary Anne is known to be a timid person, but all of a sudden she is breaking out of her shell and meeting new people and getting a boyfriend in the 8th grade. I'm not saying any of that is terrible, but it just doesn't seem like something Mary Anne would do. This book felt like a serious deviation from Mary Anne’s character and a huge transition that I don't believe would have happened as quickly as it happened in this short graphic novel. Besides that, I still enjoyed the illustrations in this book and Mary Anne’s new cat, Tigger.
I give this a 3

Oh gosh, this one was so cute! I forgot about these ones until Netflix decided to do the series. These are so awesome, though they do kind of lack diversity in some ways. The series DEFINITELY helped with this one.

This book had so many funny parts, that I swear that this book is one of my new favorites.

I mean, you think that some of these middle grade books would get boring at a point in time, but I think I could read these forever.

Anyways my injured rooster is back so I need to go see how bad he is. Pray for me please :)

AGE RECOMMENDATION: EVERYONE!!!!!!!

It's okay. Follows the plot line of the original book pretty good, only problem was that original book wasn't that good to start with. (No offense) I mean, not the worst, could definitely be better. Like the art style, though! Uhhhhhhhhh don't know what else to say........

Conclusion:
meh book, great art!

Mary Anne is my least favorite BSC member, and this one was mainly about her. I get being shy, but running out on the dance and her own birthday party just seemed over the top annoying and childish. She’s lucky the rest of the BSC are such good friends to her despite this. 🤷‍♀️

I started reading the Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels when I was 9. Since then, I have been an avid reader of this series. I was so excited when I heard that a new Baby-Sitters Club book was coming out, especially after watching the Netflix adaptation. Unfortunately, the eighth book in the series, ¨Logan Likes Mary-Anne", was not up to the high standards I had for this series.

I felt like this book had a shallow plot compared to the other books in the series, which had more interesting plots with riveting side-stories that contributed to the development of the main character. For example, the fourth book in the series, "Claudia and Mean Janine", revolved around Claudia having family troubles (main plot) while the club was struggling to run a summer day-camp (side-story). These two different situations provided Claudia an opportunity to develop more depth to her character. In "Logan Likes Mary-Anne", the main plot was about Mary-Anne liking a boy named Logan. Without context, this sounds like a setup for a decent book. That being said, there were no other side-stories that would support Mary-Anne's character development. As you can imagine, I was shocked when I finished the book and realized "that was it". It was literally a book about a girl liking a boy and finding out he likes her back. I was just expecting a more gripping plot or at least some kind of emotional development with Mary-Anne other than her liking someone and him liking her back.

I would recommend this book to people aged 7-10 who like quick, light hearted reads.

I thought I liked the written version of Babysitters Club, but my goodness gracious the comic gave me a serious case of the heart eyes! The artwork was so endearing with little facial expressions and funny poses that transcend the words. It wholly captures the essence of this series and done in a very loving way. I even saw a Steven Universe cameo as a student in the crowd. I want to read all the comics I can in the future from my library whenever possible. Galligan's art style was lovely and very easy on the eyes.

Logan Likes Mary Anne! turned me to mush. I personally relate to Mary Anne a lot, to the point where I bought a vintage doll of her off Mercari for my book wrap ups on IG. It was easy to picture myself in her shoes with shyness, disdain for the spotlight, and kittycat kween. Logan and Mary Anne's burgeoning relationship was very sweet. I loved his Southern charm and the excellent choice for the artist to bring more diversity into the series by making him a POC. I loved every bit of this comic, perhaps more than I would have with just the source material. I was wary of this comics through their abridgement but it definitely gave me the honeyglow. If you've never read BSC, I recommend these comics as a jumping off point before you stick with the full novels. They're cute, short, and a wonderful representation of the series. Now I need to find my own Logan to complete my Mary Anne personality type.

A nice addition to this series. Mary Ann is starting 8th grade and develops a crush on Logan Bruno, a boy who just moved to town. Mary Ann is shy and often unsure of herself, but Logan is a great guy who likes her as well. And guess what? He's also a babysitter!

The artwork was attractive and colorful. The story was sweet. Fans of this series and the original Babysitters Club books will love this one.

Fun revisiting these

While I've read adult books my entire life, this series has always had a special place in my heart. It's been really nice to see the stories I'm familiar with brought back to life for a whole new generation of children. The artwork is beautiful and the storylines don't feel dated, even though they haven't changed in the last 30 or so years.

Out of all the BSC members, Mary Anne has had some of the best character growth. And every step of her growth is strengthened by the support of her dad. I’m glad that he gives her the support she needs to shine.

There’s a character arc in here for Mary Anne’s dad, too. As an adult it’s easy to see how hard he must have worked to slow down his helicopter parenting. And he’s a better parent to Mary Anne because of it, and has a better relationship with her too!

I also like that Mary Anne’s friends know when they’ve pushed her too far and apologize rather than turning on Mary Anne and blaming her for their own mistakes. These books seem to be a great role model for friendships, families, and romantic relationships.

This was charming! I've enjoyed all of the BSC graphic novels I've read so far, and was looking forward to this one in particular, as this was one of my favorite books in the series when I was a kid. The way these adaptations have re-written Mallory and Jessi's entry into the BSC is an interesting choice, much less dramatic than in the original stories. The re-write for why Logan doesn't join as a full member was a little goofy, but whatever. It worked. Mary Anne's character growth and the budding romance between her and Logan was just adorable. Can't wait for more of the series to be adapted.
