Too often, women hold each other back, bad mouthing and making unflattering comparisons. Social media give extra opportunities for negative comment.
Are we trapped in our own battles, or entertained by the wars of other women, to the detriment of our own freedom and well-being? What would happen, asks Helen Roberts, if women ceased to compete and compare? What if we settled our conflicts and resolved instead to champion one another? To celebrate each other's victories?
Helen explores the complexities of female relationships in workplaces, families and friendship circles, using contemporary, historical, personal and biblical examples. She investigates Scripture to see how, through the work of the Holy Spirit, we can cease the all-too-frequent 'she wars'. She helps us recognize our own destructive tendencies and establish healthy habits which will enable women and their relationships to thrive. This will help us live more confidently as the daughters the Father intends us to be, free from envy or comparison.
Loved this view of comprising especially through the lens of Christ you become closer to yourself and Him, it always seems to come at the right time too!
I was not really sure how to feel about this book. Literally I would be listening to some really good advice and then two seconds later it would be a long long ramble about bible verses and what felt like a church sermon. Now do not get me wrong, I do not have anything wrong with church, I just did not expect that in this book and it took away from the strong message that I felt was already in the book. Overall I enjoyed the book but was annoyed overall from the layout, wouldn't not recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Every woman should and needs to read this book. The toxic relationships between women in the workplace and outside of it contributes to a lot of the frustration many of us feel, especially at work. I personally have experienced this and been miserable at work. The author's examination of what it would be like for women if we complimented versus competed with each other is extremely relevant. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.
Excellent book that really encouraged me to seek God in all trials of life especially as a woman. The author exposed her own past struggles and feelings which was insightful as I also struggle with many of the same things. I loved the way the author looked at worldly struggles through women in the bible including their comparison struggles and also seeing them overcoming it through God's help. These biblical women were able to choose to encourage each other rather than being resentful.
The Comparison Trap is a must read! I loved this book the way Helen shows the relationships between woman in the work place. I work in an office full of woman and it touched some sour spots and made me see things in s a different light.
I REALLY struggled to finish this book. While the content could have been great, it was just poorly written. There were many unrelated rants thrown together rather than developed, cohesive thoughts. I sadly do not recommend this book.
