Another excellent installment in this series

This is book 5 in a series of fantasy stories aimed at children & families. It explores Irish mythology primarily, but adds gradually to it with Celtic, Gaelic, Welsh, & other mythologies from the British Isles & from Germany.
The story revolves around a large Irish family duringnm the potato famine in the mid 19th century. The family members all seem to have some sort of supernatural abilities. The kids go on various adventures throughout the series. Each time,, tjey discover new strengths & abilities & learn how to fight enemies usingneach others' strengths & covering for each other's weaknesses. They aren't always in the same place all together, but they're often paired up differently in different books.
This one kind of ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but it is a great chance to have the kids write their own story of what they think will happen next, & the family can compare endingsnwhen the next book is released.
I can't recommend this series too highly. It is good, clean materiel but there are important points made about each of the characters & how they handle situations. The books provide for the engagement of the imagination, as a resource for creative play where the kids make up their own adventures, as a way to discuss why the children think the characters had to go through certain things, as an antidote to thinking that life must always be easy & if it isn't, that someone should rescue you from difficulties, as a way to inspire art (drawing what the kids think the different species in the story look like, for example), possibly even as a way to inspire finding or creating music that might go with the scenes in the book.
This is, I believe, a series destined to be beside "The Chronicles of Narnia" for the scope of the story & the fantasy universe it circumscribes.
