Do you know a small child who will not eat their veggies? This book may help - all the veggies get together so they can party! Late at night (when everyone has gone to sleep) the party in the patch is rocking! The art is wonderful - reminds me of cartoons I use to watch as a child. Fun book that might help that picky little eater!
The things I most liked about this book was all the funny extra stuff, like how the horses were named after the Beatles. Also the labels were funny in the front and back covers. The actual story was kind of cheesy.
So THAT'S what all the noise is coming from my backyard at night!
I wanted to love this, but all I can do is like it okay. The rhyming words often miss--"headstands" does NOT rhyme with "Can-Can." Stuff like that. Having the "Red Hot Chile Peppers" as a band is a nice,if obvious touch.
The "sparkly surprise" is kind of a downer--the book has a center page spread with silver strips on it, that are shiny, not sparkly. I'm just glad it's not the sort of special effect that gets ruined after the book is circulated to a few toddlers....
There's a lot to enjoy here: I love the repeated "chorus" rhymes, and the celebration of so many kinds of veggies, the silvery rainstorm (the pages are infused with shiny elements). The text sounds like the lyrics to a song--I was actually surprised when I learned there isn't an accompanying song. I don't understand the artistic choice of having some of the words blotted out; it didn't seem to be for a particular purpose.
After the farmer goes inside for the evening and all of the animals are asleep, the vegetables ease out of the earth, find multiple concert stages from somewhere and form bands to perform for the night.
This book is dumb. Children will not understand the references to 90's bands such as the Red Hot Chile Peppers or the Smashing Pumpkins. And how is this what happens when the moon is shining bright, but it was just storming?
A rhyming story about vegetables that rock and roll when the farmer and farm animals go to bed. A similar concept as "Par-tay! Dance of the Veggies" but a little more well-executed.
Enjoyed. Would have given 4 stars but there seemed to be typos/repeated words which had been corrected in the copy we borrowed from the library. Not sure if this was intentional by the authors.
The crowd pleasers are potatoes- potato chips, anyone? The Chili Peppers come in smoking hot- smoking like a gun. This book is a rhyming good time. I leave the book envisioning a carrot congo line.
Not as good as Kitchen Disco, but better than Bathroom Boogie. I'd definitely use it for some motion activities (okay, DANCE PARTY) in a vegetable/fruits & veg storytime. The illustrations are excellent for just such a thing, bright and bold and clearly delineated and well-suited for sharing with a group.
