The Tiny Chef: and da mishing weshipee blook

Rate this book
The Tiny Chef, a small herbivore with an enormous heart, goes on a quest to find his missing recipe book in this irresistible debut picture book from the creators of @TheTinyChefShow.

Our debut picture book adventure finds the Tiny Chef at home in his kitchen on a beautiful day, but not all is well inside the Chef's stump. He's misplaced his favorite recipe book--the one he uses to cook all of his best dishes, like his famous stew, which he always makes on the first day of fall, and that day is here! What is the Chef to do! He practically tears apart his house looking for it. He gets so frustrated he throws a tantrum. But then he does what we all have to do sometimes when we're upset. He counts to ten. He goes for a nice long walk. And that's when inspiration strikes! A little rosemary, some mushrooms, and the Chef might have a brand-new recipe after all. And that's when his recipe book finally appears. Right where he left it--now isn't that weird?

Do you know The Tiny Chef? I actually don't, but I hear he has many fans. This is an adorably illustrated book about a tiny chef whose recipe book is missing. I love the illustrations and I think children will be captivated by how they use small things (like bottle caps, buttons, and spice tins) to create an adorable miniature world for The Tiny Chef. Whether they've seen the show or not, I think preschoolers through young elementary schoolers will be entranced.

The tiny chef is, unfortunately, missing his recipe book. He’s looked high and low, with no luck. But the show must go on. And in the end, tiny chef is reminded that the best recipes come from the heart. The recipe to Blegaful Shew can be found in the back of the book and I must say it sounds DELISH!

This is the kind of book I'd have been obsessed with as a child. It's so beautifully photographed and the text is lyrical and sweet.

What kind of monsters gave this book anything less than a 5 star rating?! The Tiny Chef goes on an adventure, important lessons are learned, and every page is a delight. Eleventy billion star review.

I don't know what led me to pick up this book but it's cute. Tiny chef lives in the bottom of a tree stump and I loved the inside of his house. His pans are made out of bottle caps and it looks-like thimbles and his chairs are spools of thread. The house is quite quaint and homey but right now, it's a mess! Because it's the first day of fall, Tiny chef is getting ready to prepare a special dish to eat and right now, he can't find the recipe book that has the recipe in it. Tiny Chef is looking everywhere! He's getting quite upset as he needs that book, it has all his favorite recipes. Realizing that he's not getting anywhere in his searching, he decides that he needs to do something else for a minute and that's when, Tiny Chef makes a big discovery.

I enjoyed following Tiny Chef through this process and the ending made me laugh, as I think we all can relate to Tiny Chef and what Tiny Chef learned. The illustrations were enjoyable and entertaining and weren't too busy. I normally don't care for these types of illustrated books but I liked how the illustrations were faded out in the back as I thought they helped to concentrate the story more and provided just enough detail. A great read and highly recommended.

this is just too too precious ... i follow The Tiny Chef on instagram ...not sure how it call began ...meaning i don't know where i first saw the chef? but i am so glad i saw the ad to see this book ... yes, i did purchase it myself (the kindle version and the audio version too. i mean who doesn't love Rupal's voice ... so calming and pleasing to the ears ...and these words are too perfect to listen to ... i think both adult and kids of all ages with enjoy. i appreciate that i have both version to check them both out ... might work really well if you have a hard cover and are able to listen while you read? that would be a great gift for some one. hint hint.) all the details will make you smile. i would love for these to be a painting ...that would be fun too. so cheerful. colorful and FUN!! must read. glad i found it as a suggestion ... my heart and eyes are so so happy. i wish you could give it more than a 5 star ... deserves it for sure.

I love books that have unique illustrations. This one uses miniatures! So cute. This would be really fun for a read-aloud about food or cooking. My only nitpick is that sometimes it is hard to understand the Tiny Chef's accented words. They probably become more understandable the more you read them out- loud but the initial reading gave me a bit of a headache.

I have never heard of the Tiny Chef (apparently he's famous?) but the little needle-felted guy and miniatures used to make the illustrations are adorable. I think the baby talk will confuse some kids.

Some very creative people brought their talents together to create a thoroughly entertaining book--packed with an important message for both children and adults alike! This story focuses around a tiny frog who is a chef--known as Tiny Chef. He lives in a cozy home created from the bottom section of a tree stump. When we first see Tiny Chef he is frantically looking around his home for his special recipe book (some children might notice that it is buried under some items on his counter!). Tiny Chef searches the entire house and becomes increasingly frustrated, so he decides to take a walk outside to clear his head. While walking through his garden, he comes upon some beautiful fresh herbs and vegetables. He cuts some of these to take back to his kitchen. He chops, dices, and sautees all these wonderful ingredients together and makes a delicious stew. Just as he is grabbing a lid to put on the pot, he discovers his missing recipe book. This does not matter to Tiny Chef because he was able to make a tasty stew using his own creativity.

An added bonus to the story is the rhyming text and silly words. Tiny Chef speaks in frog language and this comes out as “My weshipee blook hash glon mishing” (My recipe book has gone missing) and “I fannot meleeve dish mashally hafgumed” (I cannot believe this actually happened). Just think how funny this book would sound being read aloud by an enthusiastic reader! For children that enjoy fairy houses, they would love all the little things that Tiny Chef does to make his house a home. His tree stump is equipped with curtains, a picket fence, pots and pans, kitchen stools and all kinds of wonderful little bits of furniture made from everyday objects--such as pans made from bottle caps.

The pictures that accompany this story are hilarious. They are created with real props and a cute little felt frog that gets manipulated into all kinds of positions to fit the story. Even his little black eyes make subtle changes to reflect his moods. The group that collaborated on this book are animators, writers, directors, and all have experience in film making--including Isle of Dogs, Coraline, and Frankenweenie.

Oh, my heart.❤️‍🩹 I found out about this precious Tiny Chef just last night because Nickelodeon has cancelled his little show, and its creators released a heartbreaking video to announce the news. I could not help but immediately fall in love with Tiny Chef, and I really hope the show will be renewed, maybe on a different network, because this character is most charming and adorable. I definitely want to watch it now, though I am faaaar from being a preschooler. How can I not love him?

Anyway, I wanted to see if the Tiny Chef has a cookbook, because it would make perfect sense, and I wanted to learn all about his professional antics - maybe borrow a recipe or two. Instead, I found this, which is not a cookbook, but a lovely children's picture book about not letting inconveniences get in your way, moving forward, staying inspired, and doing your best. Lovely, sweet, very colourful and endearing.

I'm rooting for you, Tiny Chef! Please teach me your ways!🥹

Based on the adorable web series, The Tiny Chef and da Mishing Weshipee Blook has the same homey and engaging feel as the videos. The rhyming text is lovely, but as with the web series, the visuals are the star with their incredible tiny details and expressive little chef. The chef’s perseverance in spite of the lost recipe book will show young readers how to make the best out of a bad situation. The wonderful text combined with the stunning illustrations makes this a winning selection for young readers. Due to the intricate details, this book is best shared one-on-one so that the child can look closely at the book, but the text is also suited for a read aloud to children ages 3-6.

A delightful story and a beautiful book! This will appeal to new and seasoned readers with its rhyming lyrical approach and toddlers who can find wonderful items to talk about on these beautiful pages. But most importantly, it will appeal to any of us that could benefit from a reminder to stop, take a breath, find a different solution and we too can be the finder of lost things- we might find something we didn’t know was missing!

The storyline was not my favorite (and honestly, I think it needed to be more.) But I want to highlight the illustrations for a moment.

When books use different mediums to convey their message, their story, I am always intrigued. For this one, miniatures were used. Think "Dinner for Schmucks" and Steve Carrell's character. Every element is actual--like thimbles and thread spools and sprigs of rosemary. It is delightful and whimsical which is what I think the authors were going for.

LOVED this book SO much!! It’s the perfect companion to the entire Tiny Chef background story and the spirit behind his entire cult following! Nothing makes me happier than seeing this little guy, the good message for my kids to hear, and even getting his Blegaful Shew recipe to make on our own!!! :)

Pretty dang fun, if you are a fan of the Tiny Chef! If you're not--well, you may not be into this one. But for many kids, I think there is a lot here that is going to be fascinating--just checking out all the details of the photo-illustrations here is a joy.

Thanks to Penguin Young Readers for the review copy.

I have followed the TinyChef on Instagram for well over a year (or more) and was SO excited to get the book!
Beautifully illustrated this story takes us along with TC’s searching a coping mechanisms when his treasured recipe book goes missing. As you might expect from a chef, there is some cooking involved!
Many households I love will receive some TC love over the holidays.

I think I would have been more into this book if I'd heard of the tiny Chef. It seems like something that is more popular with adults than kids, but has kid appeal. The unique needle-felted chef with realistic tiny staging was pretty cool to look at and I loved the message of learning to improvise.

I love miniature things. The Littles and the Rescuers Down Under who used matchboxes for beds and thimbles for bowls were always my favorites. This story reminds me of those. The chef has bottle cap pans and teeny tiny goggles that are amazing. This is a good book. Both the story and the gorgeous illustrations make it fun. (cooking, miniature)

I love the Tiny Chef. Watching him always makes me smile. Listening to this cute little story as an audiobook read by Chef and Ru Paul was fun and the message—like everything about the Tiny Chef—was sweet and genuine.

Very cute! This is my first introduction to the tiny chef...it seems I've missed something. Is there more stuff about him? Adorable scenes of this little green guy looking for his recipe book and learning that not every good meal has to come from a book.

Super cool concept. It started as a series of cute videos on Instagram. But a lot of folks have latched on to it as a way to introduce kids to veganism.
