Jasper Honor. Duty. Loyalty. Three ideals every Marine lives by, and Jasper Watkins is no different. Only he’s lost his edge. He’s failed in his duty to keep someone safe, not once, but twice, and he doesn’t know why. He blames himself and feels he’s lost the respect of the people who matter to him. To get his head on straight, he goes to ground in a little nowhere town where he won’t be found. Only fate throws a wrench in his plans in the form of a beautiful blonde who loves Christmas, kittens, and sassing him. He soon finds himself caught up in her secrets—secrets that may get them both killed. Sloane Wrong place wrong time. If she’d just stayed in the wedding tent, she never would have seen men dumping body parts, and she’d be safe and sound in her Miami apartment putting up Christmas decorations. Instead, she finds herself hiding at her cousin’s farm, bunking with a complete stranger who thinks he’s all that. And he is. Just don’t tell him. The more time she spends with her unwanted housemate, the more she starts to unravel the mystery that is Jasper Watkins. She finds herself falling fast and hard for a man who can break her heart, but he also has the ability to save her not only from the cartel, but from herself. Christmas is a time to bring people together, and if the two of them get out of each other’s way, they might just find their own Christmas miracle.***Author's Note***Here is the reading order of the Me NotThe Sinner's TouchThe Healing TouchKade (KSI 1)Viktor (KSI 2)Forever Your TouchMason (KSI 3)Jasper (KSI 4)Max (KSI 5)Gabe (KSI 6)Sheridan (KSI 7)
So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.
Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama on you. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.
Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my family and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol.
I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.
Sloane has witnessed something that has the potential to endanger her life.
Jasper has been working for KSI Investigations and has made a couple of (what he sees as) serious mistakes.
Unbeknownst to both of them, their mutual friend has offered his farm as a getaway for them both. So they meet under unusual conditions.
With all the turmoil that’s going on, will Jasper be able to keep Sloane safe from the cartel who are hunting her down? Will Jasper work through his own demons?
I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Romance is not my favourite genre but I don’t mind reading one from time to time. I recommend this book as a light and enjoyable read.
Another great installment in the Kincaid family saga. Although Jasper is not a Kincaid by birth, he is part of their larger 'family by choice'. Anyone who has read a book in this series knows that once the Kincaid clan claims someone as their family, they just are. Well edited.
Jasper is struggling with what he perceives as failures. He feels like he let Kade and Angel down, not once but twice. So, he figures if he gets away from everything for a while, maybe he can understand where he went wrong and fix it. In the airport, he literally runs into Sloane. She's on the run from a local cartel, having witnessed a body disposal. Unbeknownst to them, they are connected by Sloane's cousin Jarrod. He and Jasper know each other from the Marines. Both are headed to Jarrod's farm to hide from the world.
Sloane has had her share of tragedy, and is slowly able to help Jasper process his own demons. In so doing, Jasper realizes he is angry with Connor Kincaid because he survived a mission that Jasper's brother, Henry, did not. It's misplaced, but grieving is a hard thing to process. Meanwhile, the cartel has traced Sloane to her hideaway. She and Jasper go on the run to New York, hoping that once they reach KSI they will be safe. The cartel follows, and chaos ensues. Will Jasper and Sloane survive to have a future together?
I liked this next step in the Kincaid family story. There are appearances and mentions of most of the family. In addition, we get tidbits into Connor's past and maybe a clue about his future. There are some serious demons there! Looking forward to much more with this family - those by blood and by choice. Enjoy!
I have truly enjoyed this series, and I am (not so) patiently waiting for Conner's upcoming story! Lol! This was a fantastic story that I am so glad was written, especially after not much was said about Jasper after the trouble he had in the previous books. I'm thrilled that he was able to find his forever love, though it was a hilarious and bumpy ride. I will highly suggest the following reading order: The Manwhore Series, Kincaid Security & Investigations series (both which have boxed sets available!), and finally this awesome book. I made the mistake of reading Kincaid Security series first, not knowing that the Manwhore series was about the same characters, as well as their own stories in finding their forever love's. It's not absolutely necessary to read each series, but I will say that after reading these out of order, I know that I would have really benefited from starting with the beginning. You will get so much more understanding of each character, their connections to one another, and the aspects between them all by reading the stories in the correct order. Not to mention, each of these books are absolutely amazing, and you certainly won't be disappointed! (There's lots and lots of steamy, sexy, and truly drool worthy moments with each of these sexy bad boys!! & the women are truly phenomenal as well) I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author!
I really hope to see Conner's books very soon!! (hint-hint ;) !!)
Meet Jasper, a Marine who has dedicated his life to protecting others and keeping them safe. Lately, he's lost his edge and takes a bit of a personal trip to the middle of nowhere in North Dakota. On his way out there, he runs into Sloane, a woman who is on the run from some very bad men. By a twist of fate, them running into each other is just the beginning. I don't typically read this genre of books, but I appreciate Ms. Baker's writing style in her other books/series. I was not disappointed. It wasn't overly sappy romantic. Jasper and Sloane definitely knew how to push each other's buttons. There was also some good action sequences. The setting of North Dakota on a farm in winter during the holidays was captured pretty well (I spent two winters there). I was a bit lost when it came to the Kincaid family and security company, but I believe this is because it is the fourth in the series and I had not read the rest of the books. Regardless, if you're a fan of stories with a good balance of action, suspense, and romance, I recommend picking up this one.
3.25 for this romantic suspense book about a former war hero finding love and protecting her from the Cartel. As is typical with this plot, the hero, Jasper, is dealing with adjusting to civilian life, though the author does put a different spin on it. Sloan and Jasper meet at the airport and turns out they are headed the same direction though maybe a little to coincidental. There is a spark between them but refreshingly, they don’t end up in bed together immediately. The plot starts out rather tame with sweet and domestic scenes between Jasper and Sloan. They slowly open up to each other. Sloan helps Jasper face his past and he protects her, while showing all men aren’t like her abusive last boyfriend. Then the plots turn extremely violent and more brutal than I expected or liked. Hence, the 3 instead of 4 Stars. Since this is the first book I read in this Series, I was confused about the dynamics of the Kincaid brothers, but that Connor is down right scary. Not sure if I plan to read anymore in the Series, as the the revenge was over the top and lawless.
Jasper, by Apryl Baker is an absolute gem of a book that masterfully weaves romance, suspense, and unforgettable characters into an enthralling story. From the very first page, I was captivated by the vivid world Baker created and the complex, relatable characters that leapt off the page.
The romance is beautifully written, full of chemistry and emotional depth, making you root for the characters as they navigate their challenges. But what truly sets this book apart is the thrilling suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Baker has an incredible ability to craft twists and turns that leave you breathless and eager to uncover the next secret.
Whether you're a fan of heart-pounding suspense or swoon-worthy romance, Jasper delivers on every front. It's a story that stays with you long after you finish, and I can't recommend it highly enough! This is a must-read for anyone who loves a perfect blend of love and intrigue.
This is part of the KSI series but can be read as a stand alone and honestly, it was my frist venture into this series. I am so in love and I am rushing to go back and catch the other books in the series. Jasper needs a break. He has failed on two misions for the company and he can't seem to get his head right. He is clinging to anger and guilty and frustrations and he just can't focus. Sloane is running from something she has seen, something horrible, something that might be coming for her. Can they help each other or will they just keep getting in their own way? These characters are delightful. This story is filled with emotion, laughter, tears, joy, it's all there. The story progressses naturaly and while it's a fast read, I never once felt rushed. There are twists and turns and well, a whole bunch of calamity. I loved every moment and I can't wait to read more and learn about the supporting cast. So good!
Jasper is a former Marine but now works for Kincaid Security and Investigations. He’s having trouble because he believes he failed to protect a woman, twice. He needs to get his head on straight so he takes a leaves of absence and heads to North Dakota. His buddy has a farm so he’ll go to take care of the animals and relax. Sloane is a photographer and while photographing a wedding she witnesses people disposing of body parts. She runs and goes to her cousin’s farm what she doesn’t know is she’ll have a roommate. Sloane had a bad breakup and doesn’t trust easily but Jasper can tell something is wrong and he’s determined to find out what it is. Forced proximity. It took me awhile to get into this book. It was just me probably but once the chase was on, I couldn’t put it down. Christmas loving woman. A man who has to forgive himself.
I liked the Jasper & Sloan characters in this book. Sloan worked for a TV show. One day she saw something she wish she never seen. Days later witnesses who seen it were murdered and she was the only one left . She left town with her camera & some clothing to get out of town to her brothers cabin . When she got there one of his friends also was there-Jasper was his name. Jasper was once in the military as her brother was currently , It was in his cabin they stayed in figuring no one would find them. But they did ,these people were worst then the Mobsters they belonged in the cartel. I don't want to tell to much of the story. I loved it and stayed awake at night to finish it. I will surely read more of her books if their as good as this one.
Ahhh! Another fantastic story! Jasper needed a break, he was coming apart after failing to protect Angel twice. That combined with his past led him to get away. He took off for his buddy’s farm in North Dakota. He had no idea his future was waiting for him. Sloane got herself in trouble by accident. A photographer, she was working a wedding and accidentally saw something she should t and now the cartel was after her. She had no family left besides her cousin and he was overseas for a year so after getting his permission, she took off to escape to his farm in North Dakota. It’s there she met her protection, her future and her soul. Another fantastic book in this series. I cannot get enough of the Kincaid brothers and their extended family. This stuff is soooo good!
Honestly I didn't think I'd love this book! It wasn't a Kincaid brother and it took place not at KSI in the beginning so I was hesitant. I should not have doubted this author to give us an amazing story! You get all the mystery, murder and retribution as the other books, you get a sexy alpha ex military bad A, you get a strong female lead and more characters added to this crazy family some by blood some by choice! Excellent book! My heart hurt for Jasper & Sloane was just the girl to help him heal! My character, Conner has yet to get his book and I can't wait!! Also I need more Mateo! That little boy deserves nothing but puppies, kittens and rainbows!! I see a spin off of all the kids as adults once Apryl has finished their books!✌
A VERY EXCITING AND INTRIGUING BOOK! BUY THIS BOOK NOW!😍
A story that sweeps the reader away from the beginning to the end. Each character comes to life, as these people become more real. It has murder mystery. The author draws you in throughout the story, page after page! This is a great written story! I Recommend this author, this book to everyone that loves a superb book! 😍 BUY THIS BOOK NOW!😍
I wasn't sure what to expect of this but was pleasantly surprised. Sloane has seen something that puts her in danger and Jasper is hiding away licking his own wounds.
I really liked Jasper, he seemed fun and playful and Sloane was a bit of a contradiction.
I thought the action was gripping but I felt that some of the actions were unrealistic and that's why it's not 5 stars. But recommended. I want Connors story.
Loved this book! A delicious amount of teasing, flirting, and romance balanced with "run for your life" danger. Photographer Sloan is in serious danger. Former marine Jasper, now an operative of KSI, is taking a leave following a few traumatic cases and grief surrounding his older brother death during a high classified mission. What throws these strangers together? Jarrod, Sloan's cousin, and Jasper's long-time marine buddy.
I’m such a fan of this series. This was my last book to read…yes, I read them all out of order! It didn’t matter though. Each book included all the other characters so it was like a family reunion with every one. Jasper was one of my favorites. He had such a kind soul inside a hardened body. Sloane was so very perfect for him. Plenty of action, suspense and romance in this book. Read the series; you’ll love these great stories!
Apryl has done it again. This is another great book in the Kincaid Security Series. Jasper has issues he needs to face, instead of hard farm work he gets a spunky woman running from trouble. This is what they both need, together they face their ghosts to be strong for the other. This is a perfect Christmas gift, don’t pass this one by.
This is the first Kincaid Security book I have read. I will definitely be reading the rest now. I absolutely hate when a romance book beats a dead horse and drags the "tension" out, this one did not do that. There was enough romance thrown in around all of the other stuff going on to make it present but not over the top.
What I loved: 1. Banter 2. Flirting 3. Humor 4. H is not a jerkface 5. The h is not stupid or a push over 6. The sugar and food ‘addiction’ 7. The kittens 8. The grocery store runs 8. Jasper 9. The icing incident 10. Christmas.... 11.No over kill on the sexual tension eating up the pages. This topic had a good balance.
This is probably my favorite book of this series so far.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sloane and Jasper. Their story started a little differently than the others and therefore there was a little less action in this book. I think it worked well though because we got to know Jasper and Sloane better.
Oh wow!! I love Jasper and Sloane! the kittens were such a sweet touch. I felt like I k as the characters. I'm loving all these guys. I can't wait to get Conners book. I feel like his is going to make me cry. I lobe how he's so protective of everyone. The ending to this book was great! Love the Santa suit!!
I just loved this book. Jasper has been one of my favorites from the start. I loved how our girl was perfect for him. It was also fun to see Mateo interact with her. That kid, he tugs my heart so hard. Looking forward to more books in this series. However I certain hope we get Connors book soon.
Jasper is an exciting novel. Loved the pace, the characters, the kittens, the cover, and the plot. Apryl Baker is a new author for me. Can’t wait to read more of her books. As creative as Ms. Baker is - my rating would have been higher if “cute” wasn’t used a dozen or more times in the book.
I love This series and this book does not disappoint. The continuity from previous books and the storylines are second to none. I love the strength of the female character, showcasing both her strengths and weaknesses . I highly recommend this book
Really enjoyed reading. Loved how two people who had no idea that they were going to the same place meet up and end up together in the end. Can't wait until I can read the next book. Highly recommend reading.
I thought Connor's story might be next and I was so very excited but it was Jasper's and it was a good story I'm glad I read it but I'm still very much looking forward to Connor story
This book has a lot of danger, action, suspense and a little romance thrown in keeps you turning the pages until the very end hats off to this author looking forward to reading more books from her
Wow this was a good read for sure I enjoyed it immensely! All the KSI books are great. Going to read all of them. Hope you enjoy them was much was I have!
I loved this story! I loved how Apryl Baker writes her characters as strong, loyal and sexy, always taking care of those that can’t take care of themselves. I love how characters continue to show up in all of this series. I look forward to reading more of Apryl’s stories.
