The Beasts of Big Easy #1

How to Woo a Wyvern

Rate this book
Welcome to Beastly. Neutral shifter territory and home of four dragon shifters looking for love. Only they don’t know it yet.

Everything was fine until she walked in.
She smells…different. Not quite human, not quite beast.
I can’t figure it out and it’s making my dragon rise to the surface.
It wants to claim her.
And the gods help me, but so do I.

I’m hunted. Scared. Running for my life.
But I won’t back down from the threat that seeks to destroy me.
I’ve found neutral ground and, with it, a man I can’t stop thinking about.
He smells … strange. Like blue skies and the sea.
My beast can’t decide if she wants to eat him or claim him.
I know what I want to do.
But I can’t bring him into this.
If I do, it might destroy us both.

For fans of Terry Bolryder and T.S. Joyce comes a new series about shifters and the women who love them. Welcome to Beastly, a place where stronger women and sweeter shifters find their happily ever afters!

Molly has been on the run practically her whole life. She's the last of her kind and her enemies keep closing in on her. Her last hope is at the only neutral territory for supernaturals, a bar called Beastly, run by four dragon brothers. Beings almost as powerful as herself that would be worthy allies to fight by her side when the time came.

But one look at Theo and Molly knows that bringing her troubles to Theo and his brothers doorstep, wont be as easy as she'd thought. Especially when Theo becomes convinced that she's his true mate. Mating is forever and when she's preparing for the fight of her life - literally- romantic complications are the last thing she needs.

This was the intro book to a new series about dragon brothers and finding their fated mates. A big deal, since a dragon hasn't mated for longer than they can even remember. Theo and Molly's story was a cute insta-love story with a likable hero and intersting heroine. I loved the bit of backstory we got for Molly's shapeshifter kind and the author's unique spin on dragon matings. The story also had a little action, a little suspense and a lot of comedic moments. The title did throw me off a bit since a wyvern is a dragon like creature and Molly's beast isn't described as a dragon (maybe I missed something?) And Theo is definitely the one doing the wooing here, lol! If you like sweet, completely devoted heroes, Theo is your man!

The story started off a bit slow but once Theo and Molly team up, the story picks up again and ended with a very cute epilogue for the MCs. The other brothers will be interesting for sure, especially Scott and Blaire! Hoping there will be a little more built up and romance for the other couples, insta-love is great but a little more romance never hurt :)

Let's start with thing that annoyed me to no end and is mostly at fault for rating. Dear author, i and i imagine the rest of your readers would truly appreciate if you could REMEMBER THE NAMES OF YOUR OWN GODDAMNED CHARACTERS! Somewhere towards the end Maggie (an important character) became Blaire! Is it really so hard to remember the name you used for most of the book?
Now,that off my chest, i can admit that it was the most memorable thing about this book. The story is half cooked and way too rushed. I don't know if it was editing or author didn't bother to expand on her own story and characters, but reader gets a light brush of events, important parts of story(what exactly is Brotherhood, why it is so successful, why Dark Council ignores it, who is Arī and why he is obsessed with Molly-what was his end goal, etc. etc.) , and very rapid love story. There are no satisfying answers given to plot author created and ending is just barely a one. Guess, readers are supposed to fill in all the plot holes and missing information themselves. And to top it off, writing is just satisfactory.

As for recommendation. Do you want to read a book that you will forget in a day? Do you expect a well developed story or you will be satisfied with crumbles of information? If it is just something to fill your spare time with and you don't really care what you read, then, be my guest, knock yourself out. This is not a story that will hold you up late at night, but there are way worse ways to fill your time up. I don't recommend it, but I will not warn you against possible brain rot you may develop getting through it. It is not THAT bad.

Theo Melancon, a dragon, was one of the owners of a New Orleans bar called Beastly, the only “neutral territory” for shifters in the southeast United States. They welcomed shifters of all kinds - dragons, wolves, bears, cats, and the occasional skinwalker. There were other creatures, too, that couldn’t be identified. Those made them nervous, but no one was hassled and so far it was working. One of his other partners, a fire dragon named Cal, was sometimes able to sense future occurrences – preceded by the words, “I got a feeling about tonight” -- and alerted Theo that someone “life-changing” to one of them would be entering the bar.

Molly walked into the bar, right on time according to Cal’s calculations. Most shifters had heard of the four dragon owners of this neutral territory, and she was hoping to ask for their help. She was safe here. She felt the gaze and began to walk toward the most handsome man she had ever seen. This was one of those moments when you knew your life was about to change forever. She ordered a drink and could not believe that the man slammed it down with a furious look on his face! He stormed away as she shrugged and mentally looked for the next powerful source of magic. As she was about to go to him, the bartender was already on his way, slammed the man against the wall, and she watched as the man began to laugh hysterically. What was wrong with these guys? She almost wanted to run back outside, but the danger of the hunter, who felt her kind was too dangerous to live, kept her right where she was.

Molly was a rare them Hamrammr, a type of shapeshifter. But she was neither bound by the moon’s cycle nor confined to only one shape. She could become anyone or anything – including a killing machine in a Berserker rage -- and was not bound by any "rules". And the hunters who murdered her parents were now after her. Would the dragons help her? And how would she react when she discovered Theo was her mate?

The enormous attention to detail in this book really makes it come “alive” to the reader. The descriptions are precise and invoke the senses so the reader truly does feel like he is right there in the middle of the action. The excitement ramps up quickly, and the mating pull has a big impact. Grab your copy and enjoy finding out about a shifter you may not be familiar with. What other capabilities does she possess?

Wow. I seem to be in the minority in being less-than-impressed with this book. 😒

First of all, what is the 'wyvern' in the title supposed to refer to, 'cause Theo's a dragon and Molly's a Berserker — well, Hamrammr, whatever. Second of all, there were way too many characters being thrown at me for the first 20% of the book that it was hard to keep track of who was who, not to mention who was talking at any given time. Third, nothing really happened for about 75-80% of the book, leaving me bored for a good chunk of it, and then suddenly everything happened all at once towards the end, leaving the story rushing towards a sloppy resolution. And fourth of all, while I can appreciate the author giving her own spin on dragon lore, her rules for them made no sense. They can cloak themselves, whether in human or dragon form, and yet they have to take excursions to Ireland just to let their dragons roam free without humans seeing them. TF?! Also, they can only reproduce in dragon form, so what's the point in them even having a secondary human form? Even then, they can't reproduce without being mate-bonded to someone. Though, speaking of the mate-bond, it's an interesting take on the fated-mates trope, but it seemed awfully plot-convenient that the mating bond would allow Theo to sense and even track Molly...except when she's knocked unconscious, apparently.

If I do decide to continue with this series, it'll be out of pure curiosity to see what shakes out between Scott and Blair, as those two seem to have potential (character- and couple-wise).

Overall Verdict: 1 Hamrammr out of 10

There are 4 dragons that own a bar called Beastly it’s mainly for shifters they were all welcome Theo is one of those owners he was told by Cal who could sometimes see the future told Theo that the next person that came through the door was going to be in Theo’s life and just as Cal said the words Molly walks through the door. Molly is a something else the last of her kind she is there because she needs help from the dragons because the people that killed her parents were after her. That’s all I’m going to give you guys it’s an action packed story full of danger, suspense, passion and so much more to keep you entertained and turning the pages and I loved it. I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

An action packed novel that just screams at you to pick me up! I loved it. Romance and action all tied together with some drama and some funny banter. With a butt kicking female lead and an easy going, but still very sweet alpha male lead. Couldn't ask for a better book in my opinion.
Theo's been alone for so long with his three non-blood brothers it's ridiculous. They started up a business in New Orleans. So when a silver hair woman walks in through the door. The can't help himself to get all growly. He knows that's his mate and will do anything for her... just as soon as he gets over the shock of what the gods have given him...and the trouble she is in..

Well written story full of action, drama, danger, humour and romance

This was such a fun read and I have to say I burst out laughing quite a few times. Wanted to cry quite a few times as well. The pain is deep, the love is strong and the bad guys seem invincible. All put together, with a variety of supernatural peeps, magic, potions and determination, this was an exciting reading ride that kept me guessing right 'til the very end. I love when this happens! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this series opener and really look forward to the next book in the series.

Bad ass magical heroines & their sexy dragon mates..

This book will absolutely captivate you & throw you into a world with so many paranormal beings your head will spin! The author is wonderful & builds the characters and the world in such a descriptive way it was almost as if I could see it! It didn’t have much sexy times like the books I normally download but I couldn’t be happier than what I got in this book! I’m on to the next & will be following this wonderful author that had me hanging on her every written word! 10/10 DO recommend!

It has action, adventure, and it’s sweet. And it will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end. Highly recommend this book.

Loved the story, 4 dragons own a bar, they’ve been exiled from their homeland, no dragons have found mates in hundreds of years, than Theo finds his mate, the last of her kind who has been on the run from The Brotherhood for 200 years.

Loved it, except when Maggie changed into Blaire, I’m assuming the author wanted to change the name, as the next book as Blaire as the h, but honestly, it made me go huh, as it was literally one page to the next, where’s the editor?

This was ok, not my favorite. It's just lacking a little oomph, something to make me want to continue the series. Theo and Molly were cute...the rest of the cast of characters were ok but forgettable. And as far as the story, I feel like it came in flashes. A secret brotherhood who wants to take over everything and then gods all of a sudden just showing back up to save the dragon race...it all just didn't come together for me.

Great

This book captured my attention and I needed to see where what was going to happen next. Iived the relationship between Molly and Theo. I want more. I wanted to understand who Ari was and how he had survived for so long. I also loved the set up for Scott and Blaire's story and am looking forward to read it to find out what else happens.

I love dragons

I would read any book about dragons so I was a bit disappointed when there was so little description of these guys in Dragon form or of their dragons being part of the story!

Just wow!

Molly and Theo's story isn't all cleared roads ahead, and that fact makes it that much better. Their story contains suspense, romance, and danger making this book a must read.

Non-stop action and romance.

Theo and his three brothers, Tanner, Scott and Cal, own a bar in New Orleans that caters to paranormals. The four are dragons, but Cal is a bit "off". He is able to get visions and they all trust them. Molly has been running from Hunters for 200 years. Ari, the head of the Hunter team, killed Molly's mom and dad and won't stop til he gets her. This is one really good book. Dragons find mates, Gods have returned, kidnapping, destruction and even some deaths. Theo is hilarious talking to Molly in her beast form! With everything they are going through it's great to see the levity in downtime. I am super excited to get to Scott and Blair's story next, but Cal's will be constantly on my mind. I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout and the thoughts and opinions are mine alone. I loved it so much I had to get a copy for my own library.

Very interesting

Loved the characters and the humor was subtle but lightened up the book. The story itself was very action packed and just when you thought you had it figured something else happens. Very good.
