I woke up in an unknown forest. It seems like this place is a fantasy world where strange-looking beast run rampant. And just like in a game, I seem to be able to check mine and my enemies ability. Let’s hunt monsters and gather titles in order on level up and evolve into a higher dragon! And I heard a mysterious voice in my head, “Let’s aim to be the strongest!”

If you've dealt with So I'm a Spider, So What? you will find absolutely nothing new here. The main character has the exact same responses to his new situation that Kumoko has; there's the same Divine Voice providing the exact same kind of skippable stat dumps (though this DV has a bit more of a sense of humor); the same evolution trees; the same fraught and tentative initial contact with humans in the fantasy world. In fact, it's worse because there's no hint that the main character had any life whatsoever before he reincarnated, so there's no mystery or suspense to his situation, just a bunch of battles and leveling up. Yawn. I read this about halfway through and skimmed the rest.
If you care at all for this kind of isekai, read the spider's adventures instead. The art's better here than in the spider's manga--the battles are easier to follow, and the humanoid figures are more appealing--but that doesn't compensate for its getting no response out of me but boredom and cynicism... or even a mild fear that So I'm a Spider might also be somebody else's ideas with the numbers filed off.
It's incredibly rare to find an isekai that has been done -right-. While it is true that this isekai uses a classic "JRPG" fashion to the whole matter, it's actually played within the story itself. (won't say more to avoid spoilers) The protagonist is always facing issues not only on the combat standpoint, but on survival and social standpoint as well: the odds tend to be stacked against him.
So, all in all, it deserves a full vote on my end: my only complaint is that I don't get enough english translations for the web novel, nor for the english manga!
As I'm writing this review, I have read the 8th manga and the last quarter of the fourth light novel
This is a good series! I was a little on the fence with the whole game mechanic magic system, but honestly this is one I'd make an exception for, cause the way they have it set up it's kind of interesting how and why things are happening. Like it seems like it's more than just a gimmick to be relatable
I've come across several dragon series where the dragon is kind of pathetic, so it's nice to have a thing where he gets to be badass.
This was interesting! I'm shocked by the lack of fan service, not that I'm complaining, that's just usually what these "reincarnated as.." books center around, a lot of fan service.
A lot of the choices had me on my toes, they were made in different ways than I was expecting so that was cool! Kept me interested to see how things will turn out.
dnf after volume 3 huge stat info dumps that seem unnecessary and irrelevant, and the dialogue wasn't interesting either... most of it was monologues which were really skipable. honestly I was skimming through it
I think this is trying to be a cross between "So I'm a Spider, So What?" and "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime," but it doesn't manage to be as good as either one alone.
I'm actually a little disappointed in this book. I don't want to say they go the easy way out with their world building but the book does take the easy way out. It's another video game isekai, which is really weird because I feel like the premise along is strong enough to stand up for itself rather than having to rely on that trope. Like all MMO video games at the start though, the book does get a little grindy and repetitive which while the artwork was nice and the designs of creatures were cool, it does become very repetitive by the last chapter.
