Dr. Seuss was my first love. When my mom left me in the children’s section of the library I’d find Horton and the Cat. My mom hated the good doctor and refused to checkout his books. He was my secret, guilty pleasure. Eventually, I read about Narnia, Oz and Green Gables.
When my mom grew too sick to visit the library, a friend brought her a stash of romances which she kept in a big box beside her bed. Weekly, this good friend replenished the box. My mom didn’t know I read her books; it was like the Seuss affair, only sexier. Reading became my escape from a horrific and scary situation. Immersed in a story, I didn’t have to think about the life and death drama taking place on the other side of my bedroom wall. Books were my hallucinogenic drug of choice. In college, I studied literature and fell in love with Elliot, Willa and too many others to mention. (This had no similarity to my dating life.)
I’m no longer a child living with a grieving father and a dying mother, nor am I the co-ed in search of something or someone real, nonfictional. I’m an adult blessed with an abundance of love. I love my Heavenly Father and His son, my husband and family, my dog, my friends, my neighbors, my writing group, the birds outside my window.
Because I’m a writer, I also love my characters. I adore their pluck, courage and mettle. I admire the way they face and overcome hardships. But, as in any romance, I sometimes I get angry with them and think that they are too stupid to live. At those times, I have to remind myself that they live only in my imagination, unless I share. Writing for me is all about sharing--giving back to the world that has so generously shared with me-- because I learned a long time ago that the world is full of life and death dramas. Sometimes we need a story to help us escape.
And we need as much love as we can find. That’s why I write romance.

A pleasant novella that features a good dad; YAY!

Ethan is a recent widower with an 11 year old daughter. Zoe has never been married but has had a key role in raising her niece. He’s an artist. She’s a baker. They live in the same apartment building in a small town where their lives cross regularly and feelings grow as much as 88 pages will allow.

Altho’ Christmas is prominent in the title, this isn’t an holiday story. A singular event happens near the big day but holiday marketing sells books.

Religious and inspirational aspects are very light. There’s one scripture verse noted that I found fairly obtuse in its application. Ethan never discussed the providence of God’s supply with his daughter nor her actions. SMH…

A safe read with no foul language or sexual content but there’s nothing compelling either. Well, there’s a recipe for Lavender Cookies w/Lemon Zest and the book is currently available for free on Amazon📚

(3.5 stars) - a wry twist on God helps those who help themselves, lol

The book is sweet but with a rather melancholic feel to it. The characters are well developed, though Zoe took some time to warm up to. It's pace is a tad sedate at times. The time jumps made the plot flow feel choppy.

I liked it ok, overall, not sorry that I read it, but it's not her best.

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses

Zoe is a baker owner and hard worker who sometimes forgets to stop and have fun. She spends a good part of her time helping to raise her niece, Laurel. Ethan is a widower and dad to Hannah, an artist who's currently teaching at a private school until he can afford to purchase or open a gallery and do his art full time. Zoe likes Ethan, and he likes that she likes him for him and not just for who he is as an artist. Zoe has a box of gold coins, each coin with a story when it was added to the box. And then the box and coins go missing. Zoe and Ethan hit a snag in their relationship, and all I can say is that I love meddling mommas for knocking sense into their adult children when they're busy being obtuse. This is such a sweet story, and I loved seeing Zoe and Ethan's journey to their happy ending. I read this story as part of a Christmas anthology. Kristy Tate is a new-to-me author, one that I'll look for in the future.

When Zoe lost her golden coins she heartbroken, all generations has add a golden coin and now it would be her, but they are gone. Ethan’s daughter finds some golden coins and thinks it’s a sign of God for her father to buy the gallery he always has wanted. But maybe it’s not the value of them but what positive vibes they can bring.
This is a fun story about family, friends and what has the most value in life.

I am not sure if this is a romance or a cozy mystery. An enjoyable read that will keep you turning the pages until the last pages. The coins add a further dimension to a unique mystery - where have they gone? Ethan and Hannah are a sweet father and daughter combination. Come and enjoy the Christmas season with this Christmas story.

I received an ARC copy of this book. However, this is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review.

Sweet, clean romance. This is a quick read for when you just have a couple hours or less to read by the fire. I liked the main characters but I didn't like that Ethan didn't work harder to find the owner of the coins. He knew they belonged to someone even if it was divine intervention that put them in front of Hannah. Seems like that would have been an important lesson to teach his daughter. Instead, he just stumbled on where they came from. That is my only real complaint though.

This was a very sweet romance. Zoe & Ethan work well together. Hannah is a typical preteen girl with the sweet and the drama! It was a quick read and well worth the time to read it. Would like to read longer stories by Ms. Tate.

The story was original and entertaining.
The romance was well paced.
The characters are really well done. All had some growing to do, but only the main couple's growth is seen.
The coins were the vehicle for the story, but their loss and recovery weren't the focus of this sweet romance.

this is the first time ready a Kristy Tate story and I loved it. She packed a lot of details and character-loving scenes to capture my attention. I was sad for it to be done. I will be looking forward to reading more from Kristy.

Short story

This a short book but enjoyable ,maybe because of that. The characters are well written and the story line keeps your interest as it move along. The gold coin play an interesting place throughout the book.

A good concept, but needed to be developed better. Too many pieces missing in the story. Would have liked the romance to be developed a both better too? A bit superficial, but has potential.

I enjoyed this Christmas romance because the characters were very charming. Zoe and Ethan weren't looking for romance but I liked how their relationship developed.

She is an organized, punctual bakery owner. He is a messy artist. The niece she gave up her career to help raise is friends with the daughter he is raising alone as a widower. Despite living in the same building, they have never really gotten to know each other.

I didn't really see the friction between them that was suggested in the opening chapter, rather it read more like two people who met for the first time. That said, their relationship progressed naturally, and the tweens bridging that awkward gap between childhood and growing up too fast when everything seems monumental seemed to be portrayed authentically.

It was a quick enjoyable read that focused more on the relationship between Zoe and Ethan and their journeys to find where they belong than on the crime.

It is listed as book 4 in the Canterbury series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone.
