Rachel Lewin never intended to need a man. Not for his money, not for his clout, not for his...well, OK, maybe for that! She's used to taking care of herself. But when she becomes collateral damage in a small town scandal that costs her her job, her reputation, and her credit, circumstances eventually convince her that a sugar daddy would come in handy.
Colter Meyers, just happens to stop for coffee and WiFi on his drive back home when the enigmatic brunette catches his eye. He doesn't mean to spy, but he can't help noticing that she's filling out an online profile to find a sugar daddy. Colter never thought of himself as the type, but something about her story— or maybe her curves— convinces him he's the one to get her back on her feet. After all, as a multi-millionaire philanthropist, he certainly has the resources.
Will their fairy tale romance be a true rags to riches story? Or will Rachel mistake Colter's intentions and let her need for independence ruin her chance at happily ever after?
This is another cute little love story from Rocklyn Ryder, coming in around 25,000 words long. It features a down on her luck heroine who's used to being in control of her life and a hot as fire millionaire philanthropist hero who's not used to independent women. Naturally— there's a happy ever after. No cheating, no heart-breaking drama, and no cliff hanger ending.
While I don't think the heat level on this one is likely to melt your Kindle, you might want to hold it with an oven mitt.
Rocklyn prefers her romance reads to be short, cute, and dirty; low drama and a little over-the-top: extra points for growly, alpha heroes with beards.
Originally from the farms and ranches of Central California, Rocklyn grew up in the lap of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Those small towns will always be home, but Rocklyn was born to roam.
These days she spends her days exploring America's back roads in her camper trailer, writing steamy happily-ever-afters while looking for internet.
Follow Rocklyn here, on Amazon, find her on social media, or drop by the website (rocklynwrites dot net) and keep in touch when you join the (mostly) weekly newsletter and never miss updates on what's in the works-- and what's working and not in a life full of adventure and shenanigans.
*** And what do I read? Total smut, the kind with over-the-top chemistry that gets characters to lose their minds and their clothes as soon as possible-- they can work out the kinks on the way to happily ever after later!
I was privileged enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book from the author for a voluntary and honest review. Well this book wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't good. The plot had potential but ...weak character development, a less than compelling heroine and erratic spurts and lulls in the story line. I'll admit there's enough going on in this read to keep you mildly interested, but there's nothing special, unique or earth-shattering going on. It felt like the author was trying to put together a puzzle and forced certain pieces into places where they didn't belong. Not her best work.
I loved this one. It's sugar baby but with a little different twist. The Heroine is 35 and looking for a hand up and not a hand out. I love the maturity level in the story. A very Happily Ever After.
This story is safe from any kind of abuse, no cheating and no ow/om drama. A great story with a bit of steam.
She just needs a helping hand to get back her independence
Rachel is a young woman who had done it on her own instead of relying on others. She had gotten her business degree, was the office manager for a chiropractor, bought her own home, had a good credit score and had good friends. All that changed within a short period of time when her boss was outed for having an affair with an underage patient. When she tried to get another job no one would hire her because the rumors were that she had to have known about what her boss was doing. She burned through her possessions selling them at yard sales to pay the mortgage but soon she lost the house. She then ended up on a friends couch in Reno but that only lasted a couple of months before the husband thought it was enough. Even though she had gotten a job she could not get an apartment because of her credit score and then lost the job. So she has ended up in a small gas station town outside of Reno in a cheap hotel. Finally hitting below bottom when she is buying dollar store knock off Nyquil with the change in her purse but cannot afford a box of tissues. Things could not get much worse except to end up homeless. Thinking that there might be a way to just get a helping hand a few days later she creates a profile on Sugarmesweet hoping to find a man that she can enter into a no-sex arrangement with. At the same time Rachel is on her laptop at the local cafe Colter has stopped for a coffee break on his way from Reno to Vegas, where he lives. He becomes interested in what Rachel is doing and seeing what she wants, not to be taken care of but just a helping hand to stand on her fee again, along with being attracted to her, he drives out of the town with a plan. About a month later he is back in town to have lunch with Rachel and discuss what they both want to see if they can come to an arrangement. He already tried to her down to Vegas for a weekend to be wined, dined, showed, spa'd and then hopefully bedded but she was not having it. So he already likes her independence and that this is an "interview" for a business arrangement. Before they even finish the pot stickers he is out the door and she is coming with him back to Vegas. Colter comes from a very rich family and he runs a non profit. He gets her a job there and moves her into his penthouse apartment, takes her shopping and then has her accompany him to his work events. She is starting to get her feet under her and he is starting to like this arrangement and her more than he was supposed to. They are both attracted to each other and one night after too much dancing and wine, with both of them tipsy Rachel makes a move that will really change their arrangement. Colter is all in as he has developed feelings for Rachel and she for him. But Rachel is still fiercely independent and wants to support herself so that she is reliant on a man. But that causes a big problem and she is going to have to figure out what she wants the most - Colter and everything he is willing to share with her or to do it all alone.
I really loved Colter and his altruism towards Rachel. He saw that she did not belong stuck in that small forgotten town and wanted to help her get out without wanting anything in return, well maybe just a little something. Rachel was a bit harder to like at times because of her focus on getting back to the point where she was able to do it all on her own. She has to get back there again in order to realize that that may not be what she really wants and needs after all. This story was a bit of a harder read but it was really worth it.
I was given an ARC of this book to read for my honest review. The opinions all all my own.
Rachel Lewin had it all; a college degree, a good job, a house, and a dog, until her boss was caught having an affair with an underage patient and the small minds in her small town, assumed she had covered it up and she could not find another job. Instead of moving to a bigger city, (which makes no sense to me) she stayed there until she lost everything and finds herself at rock bottom, living in a run-down hotel and sick. She decides that she needs a temporary sugar daddy, not a permanent arrangement, but someone to rescue her and help her get back on her feet. While she is sitting at a coffee shop, on her laptop, filling out her profile, in walks Colter Meyer, millionaire philanthropist, who notices what she is doing, reads what she has been through and decides to rescue her. He eventually tracks down her profile and offers to become her temporary "sugar daddy". Moving her into his huge Vegas apartment, they build a comfortable friendship, he finds her a challenging position at his foundation and brings her as his date to many of his business events. Their relationship stays platonic, until one evening when they both have had a bit too much to drink and their chemistry ignites. Colter thinks that they are taking their relationship to the next level and is ready to propose, when Rachel makes assumptions (projecting, maybe) about his actions, has a snit and disappears. If this is how she behaved before she hit rock bottom, then maybe it was karma. I don't like Rachel very much, but Colter does and will do anything to get her back. Colter is a real sweetheart, beautiful inside and out.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my unbiased and voluntary review
This one left me scratching my head a little bit. I adored our hero. Colt is one of those perfect specimens that manages to be both sweet and alpha; he’s down-to-earth and ridiculously well off. I started out liking Rachel well enough. I could easily empathize with her ending up in trouble because of all her good intentions to “handle it herself”. (Been there, done that. Didn’t want the T-shirt but ended up with it anyway.) It was when everything went sideways on them that I stopped liking her very much. I felt like all of a sudden she became judgmental and blamed Colt for things that weren’t his fault. I was very glad to see them finally talk it out and come to an understanding about everything that had gone wrong. I adored the ending, though. It was perfect for this slightly unconventional pair. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Loved Rachael and Colter's story. Rachael is a woman who finds herself in a hard place after her former boss is discovered having an affair with an underage girl. "How could Rachel not know?" is all everyone says in regards to Rachael. This doesn't help her when it comes to finding another job. So she moves away and soon finds herself in need of help. She decides she needs a sugar daddy and only to help her out. Colter happens to see Rachael on the computer filling out an application for a sugar daddy and decides he can help her. Not to mention he finds her very attractive. This was a sweet story and I loved how everything worked out for them. Both end up falling for one another There is a little drama on the way to their HEA. All in all this was a great story.
Although we're talking about Sugar babies here, the author adds depth to her stories with more mature characters that have had life knock them down. When all hope is gone these women turn to the sugar baby website. This time we have Colt and Rachel. Colt is one of those men that are just to good to be true. He's in the right place at the right time when he sees Rachel who is definitely down on her luck. When he sneaks a peak at the site she's on it gives him an idea. Now that's as far as I go with my narrative. What I will say is that I started off feeling bad and really liking Rachel ....then well that changed. In the long run, the story and Colt won my heart and Yes, Rachel even weaved her way back into my really liking her again. Give these books a chance. It's a different take on the sugar baby agenda. I can say I'll be back for more.
Rachel's character starts out pathetic and unlikable (imo) and gradually grows on you like a barnacle. Lol. Rachel's response to Colt seemed ungrateful to me. She looked back on it as him holding her back !!! WTH?? Her being down on her luck did NOT endear her to me. Many people are in the same situation and manage to work their way out and up. She was looking for the free and easy way out and she found it-Colt!!! She was destitute and he helped her. Not liking her stupidity. She acted too rash and didn't give Colt a chance to adjust to all the changes !! I loved when Rachel got jealous of Dionne. Lol. Thankfully they both finally learned to communicate to a hea. The ending is the BEST part of the whole story! Overlook Rachel's ignorance and rashness to a good storyline.
This was yet another great book in Rocklyn Ryder's new series A Taste of Sugar. I'm loving this new series of hers just like her modern match-maker series.
Rachel is at the bottom of the barrel and decides to try to find a sugar daddy. She's on the website filling it out at a coffee shop where Colter is at. He's so drawn to her that later on he goes to the website to check her out and see if he can get in touch with her. I love the connection between Colter and Rachel and how they decide not to fight the attraction between them. Of course there's a misunderstanding and that has to be worked through but it's a great quick read that will leave you pleased.
I can't wait for the next one in the series and other Rocklyn Ryder books.
I enjoyed this story. It was a quick, fun read. I enjoyed the characters. I have enjoyed the play on the sugar baby status and I really enjoyed the way that Rachel handled it. She was looking for a hand up, a way to get back on her feet and she stayed true to that, which I really liked. I liked Colter as well. He was drawn to Rachel and he saw beyond her current situation. He did want to give her that hand up and then he though she deserved better and he wanted to give it to her. They had to come to an understanding and I liked the way that Rachel held her ground there. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
**I received this ARC in exchange for a honest voluntary review** While I'm loving this twist on the sugar baby/ sugar daddy trope, which normally would make my skin crawl, this wasn't a complete story! There's no flow connection & the story comes in blobs of info. For example, after Colt takes Rachel away from her predicament, it jumps forward to when the two have already fallen into a routine. Way too big a leap. This book came off as being incomplete & totally forced. No REAL drama (just miscommunication), no character development & no real/ full romance feel. This had the potential to be great but it's only an outline.
Voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of Ankle Deep In Sugar by Rocklyn Ryder.
While I’m a serious fan of Ms. Ryder, I’m not crazy about this book. It has nothing to do with her writing style or ability, I’m just not liking Rachel. Colter, I love!! That being said, y’all may love everything about Rachel and Colter’s story, so don’t necessarily take my word for it. Read it for yourself.
Fantastic I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. I really enjoyed reading “Ankle Deep in Sugar” by Rocklyn Ryder. If you are looking for a good book to read you want to read this. It has an enjoyable, well written, intriguing story and the great, interesting characters kept me glued to this book. I loved their story. Their interaction and chemistry was engaging, I was engrossed, I couldn’t put it down. Yet another fantastic book from Rocklyn Ryder.
3.5 stars I loved the storyline. I loved Colter he just wanted to help Rachel, he is a fixer, a good caring man. Rachel was down on her luck and want a hand up to get back on her feet. I had a hard time liking Rachel's character she was such a user, I understood she didn't want to rely on a man but it seemed like she didn't mind taking. I like the Sugar Baby trope, but this one didn't do it for me. I have read several of Rocklyn Ryder's books and really enjoy her writing.
I enjoyed reading Colter and Rachel's story. They are both down to Earth people even though their circumstances are completely different from each other. Rachel has had a bad year and is barely hanging in there when Colter notices what she's working on on her computer. A sugar daddy? He doesnt even know where to begin with that, but there's just something about her that he wanted to see more of. Such a good story.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book Oh I just love this new series. Two people , one rich and the other down in her luck.... Colter and Rachel When Rachel needs help, can she give in and not be so independent and can genuine Colter let Rachel keep her independence. Loved their chemistry and banter and after a few misunderstandings, they soon understand what they want and need. Great story.
°Non virgin MCs °Switching POVs °Insta lust °Heroine is 35, hero is in his late 30's °Celibate heroine °Neither slept with anyone else after meeting °Unlikeable ungrateful childish heroine °Both faithful during separation °No real OW drama - it was a misunderstanding °No cheating °Heroine pushed the hero away °Intimate scenes only between hero and heroine °No epilogue/HFN
Colter and Rachel's story would not let me go! Rachel has hit rock bottom for a while now. Her life got turned upside down because of her previous bosses indiscretions. Colter sees her in a coffee shop signing up to be a sugar baby and he has to meet her!
This couple broke my heart for a while there, I seriously wanted to smack them both. But thankfully Rocklyn always gives us a happily ever after.
Colter and Rachel have a fast paced romance, but that's what happens when you are a first time sugar daddy and sugar baby in a romance novel. Colter is such an awesome guy, with an awesome job and a sincere personality. Rachel ? She's kind of stubborn and defensive from being so independent her whole life. This was a fun read and I finished it in a day.
ARC review For honest review. Rachel is completely down on her luck when she signs up to become a sugar baby on sugarmesweet.com, but while she was signing up colter Meyers sees what's she is going and being cofounder and President of meyers armstrong foundation in law Vegas Nevada he wants to make her his. Awesome story
Rachel is not your typical heroine She is need need of some changes in her life and decides to somehow do something about her circumstance. Then in comes Colter. They have good chemistry and help each other realize they both needed a change. I voluntarily read and reviewed the ARC.
If you like a book told in story format as much as dialogue, then this one is for you. I felt disconnected from the characters. It may just be my preference because the author does have talent. It had an interesting plot and there was parts of it that I enjoyed. Again, I feel that this is a talented author.
While I liked Rachel’s need for independence, I found her reactions to some of Colter’s behaviours a bit head scratching. No wonder Colter didn’t know where he went wrong! Loved that they were an older couple (30’s). I especially loved the ending where Rachel makes the first move. A great story to while away a rainy afternoon. I received a copy from the author. This is my unbiased review.
Colt and Rachel meet in unconventional circumstances and their relationship continues this way. The storyline intrigued me and the characters were well developed and Rachel has her own issues to deal with. I enjoyed the book.
Such a sweet cute story with a lil bit of spice thrown in from Rocklyn. These stories are different from her match maker series these character's are a lil bit older and I love that fact, but they all have the same thing in common they all end with their happily ever after. I'd so definitely recommend.
If you love sugar daddies then this is the book to read. The first book was great, but this time, Rachel and Colter will burn your book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I really like Rocklyn Ryder’s books. Unfortunately, this just missed the mark for me. I wasn’t into the main characters or the situation. I did skim and the ending was cute. This won’t be on my re-read list.
