After reading the Dolphin Bay series I was thrilled to read a new Pelican Cove book. The story line itself was good but the characters & their dialog seemed off. That is one of the things that bothered me about the Dolphin Bay books & it seems to have trickled into this series. On the plus side the vocabulary the author used is wonderful!
I liked the concept of the Magnolia's going on a cruise to celebrate Betty Sue's 86th birthday. I understand why Betty Sue was a suspect and placed on room arrest, so to speak. I also understand Jenny getting involved to solve the mystery. What I didn't like was the lack of realism regarding situations and certain people. Why is Jenny so buddy-buddy with her ex? Why does the Captain turn the investigation over to Jenny completely? Why aren't the security team trying to solve the case? Why do they abandon the trip and turn around early? I don't believe this is realistic of cruise lines or captains. It seems to me that the small fortune each of the 4,000 passengers on board have paid would force the cruise lines to finish the trip. Otherwise I would expect 4,000 people pursuing legal action! And why the heck would everyone, including Betty Sue who was denied access to the ship for the majority of the time, say best trip ever, etc. at the end? I am shaking my head especially at that one! The cruise lines should be offering refunds or a complementary cruise with upgrades. I know this is fiction, but...
The book is well written, easy to follow, and has an intricate and interesting plot. Just not my favorite.😉
Jenny and the Magnolias are on a nine day Caribbean cruise to celebrate Betty Sue's 86th birthday. Unfortunately she gets into a high stakes porker game and the man she is sitting next to is murdered. Now Betty Sue is a suspect. How can this be? Jenny gets permission from the Captain to investigate. The Magnolias pitch in and help. Even Jenny's ex-husband who happens to be on this same cruise lends a hand. They are making no headway when a second person is killed. Then a third person. Who will be next? Will Jenny find the right clue? The ship is ordered to turn around and go back to Miami. Now the pressure is really on as the Captain wants this solved. Come along on this ride and find out how Jenny does with this case. Well thought out plot, characters are fleshed out and story is well written. I voluntarily received a free copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Jenny and the girls from Pelican Cove are embarking on the trip of a lifetime to celebrate Betty Sue's 86th birthday. Betty Sue attends a high stake poker game and ends up being a suspect in a murder . As more deaths occur and Betty Sue remains confined to her cabin Jenny and "the magnolias" try to clear Betty Sue's name. I love the friendship between these different women although I often find their dialog confusing. The descriptions of the ship and food were well written but at times didn't flow with the story creating a choppy narrative. The mystery itself is interesting if not a little unrealistic that Jenny would be allowed to snoop as she did. I did like that Jenny is leaving her past behind- did't like the cliffhanger. All in all a fun, quick entertaining cozy.
Another great adventure for the Magnolias! I love the idea of a small group of women who are all different ages come together to form a close-knit friendship. There’s always a good reason why they decide to investigate another crime. And this book is no exception. Even on a cruise, they feel compelled to help one of their group’s situation, when they are accused of a murder. If you like clean mysteries with strong women protagonists, then you’ll love this book. It probably can be read if you haven’t read the other books in the series, but I would suggest that you start with the first book. You’ll get to know all the ladies, their personalities and why they are so close. Can’t wait for the next one!
The Magnolias decide to celebrate Betty Sue’s 86th birthday by taking a nine-day cruise. Their plans run awry as the cruise is just getting underway. Will Jenny and the Magnolias be able to salvage any of their plans? Jenny soon discovers it is indeed a small world when she realizes someone from her past is aboard. Someone with the connections she needs to help Betty Sue out of her predicament.
I have read all the books in this series to date. Although each story can each be read as a stand-alone; reading in order is recommended to avoid spoilers. This is a well-written, entertaining, clean, and easy read by a master storyteller.
Jenny and the girls are on a cruise to celebrate Betty's 86's birthday, but also to get away from Pelican Cove for a 'girls vacation'. Things are going well until two things happen: One, Betty is a suspect in a person's death due to her being at the high stakes poker game with him. Two: Jenny's ex-husband is also on the cruise. He said his trophy wife was there, but no one ever sees her! Can Jenny prove that Betty is innocent of killing a stranger? You will need to read the book to find the answers. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I’ve missed this series but this book was a great way to get back to the characters. The storyline was good and the characters while familiar, were in a different setting.
The Magnolias go on a cruise to celebrate the 86th birthday of the oldest member of their group. The celebrating was cut short by a suspicious death and when a second and then third person die Jenny is called on to investigate and catch the killer.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily am providing a review.
The girls have booked a cruise for Betty Sues' birthday. Things go wrong within hours of sailing, and Jenny is tapped to solve the murder which quickly became multiple murders. Her ex husband is on board and she has to decide if she wants to be friends for their sons sake. Not one of my very favorite books in this series as Jenny quite often comes across as angry and judgemental, but still a good story.
A fun read as Jenny and the Magnolias take a cruise to celebrate Betty Sue’s 86th birthday! And a wild cruise it is!! Betty Sue decides to participate in a private poker game and one of the players is murdered. As she and the other poker players are confined to their quarters, Jenny and Molly investigate and Heather falls in love. Can they solve the murder and rescue Betty Sue?
This is the first book I read from this author. I like mysteries, and I like cruises and adventures. I enjoyed reading about the girls' trip at sea to celebrate the birthday. Reminded me of when I took a similar cruise myself to celebrate a milestone and I enjoyed the journey with other women. I like the author's writing style. Clean, easy read and all about my favorite topics: food, travel and adventures with fellow friends. I will try another book from this author.
A group of friends take a Caribbean cruise to celebrate a birthday. Not long into the cruise the birthday "girl" is a murder suspect. Her friend takes it upon herself to investigate . A web of deceit woven around crew and passengers. I received this enjoyable book as an ARC and am leaving an honest review of the read.
I enjoyed this book in the Pelican Cove cozy mystery series but it's the only 1 I've given 4 stars to other than the usual 5, and only because I found some of the plot a bit far fetched. However, it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book and I still finished it. Out of all the books, this I feel was the weakest.
I really enjoyed the story. It was uplifting to see Jenny moving on but the ending was another cliffhanger. As it takes months to see another book that is unfair.
Friends on a celebratory birthday cruise soon find themselves in the midst of a murder investigation. The writing is fresh and skillful. The plot is tight and multi-layered, and the characters are well drawn and believable. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
I have been binge reading this series. They are great books! Leena Clover is writes wonderful mysteries but this was My favorite. Start at book 1 and jump on the Pelican Cove saga.
A cruise of a lifetime, what can go wrong! Take three murders, an 86 year old in cabin lockdown, lots of suspects. Add in a sleuth, an ex-husband, and a doting captain. What do you have? A great quick read!
Very disappointed. The plot was skimpy with little depth to characters beyond the amount of food devoured and booze drank. Dialog was choppy and the ending a disaster. Don't think I will bother with a second book.
This is the latest in the series, and did not disappoint. The plot was well thought out, and kept me engaged in The story. I will anxiously await the next installment
I love this series!I have become very attached to the characters. I'm hooked on these stories. Can't wait for the next book. Please don't end the series.
AM working my way through all the Pelican Cove mysteries. I h ave enjoyed each one thoroughly. Setting and crime unique to each tale but love the continuity of the memorable quirky cast of characters
Thought this to be a bit far fetched and more like a 'Murder She Wrote' story. However, it did set the scene for the next book. I suppose there are only so many murders that can happen in Pelican Cove.
This writer is good at keeping you guessing. I can usually figure out who did it by half way through a book. Not so here. She is great with her character development and plot line. I highly recommend her books.
I like these murder mysteries fun to read and kept my interest! I read 2 of the books so far and will read more! I would highly recommend these books to anyone who likes a good Mystery!
I love this series and this book is another fun story with the Magnolia gang. I commenting be the most compelling adventure since book 1. Couldn't put it down!
Oh, oh, oh...another entertaining read with the Magnolias! Filled with great food descriptions, frolic and mystery, but the ending, oh my! Have to jump into the next one in the series!
