BOOM.That's the sound from the football field when Knox Lynch takes down the offense. He’s big and strong, the best defensive end in the league. Tough. Scary. Dumb. At least, that’s all that most people seem to see of him. Except…BOOM.That’s also the sound Daisy McKenzie’s heart makes when it beats hard against her ribs when she’s anxious and worried. She’s doing great now—she’s moved beyond her past and is focused on her future, taking steps to lead her to independence and happiness, like getting her degree and working as an art conservator. Yes, she’s doing great. Except…BOOM.That’s the sound of two lives colliding when Daisy and Knox meet. And the sound of both of their hearts, when they start to beat for each other.

About time I read the first of the Woodsmen books 🥺 after reading almost all of them not in order.

And I’ve tried to tell you all many times how much I love how the author portrays people with “special” minds, this time the anxiety was so well done and the H was something else. I just loved them so much, they were so dear ♥️

2,5 ❤️🤔⭐️s

Although this story was sweet and heartwarming, the romance started developing towards the first half of the book!!!
The plot strayed onto other topics, weakening the romantic aspect of the story.
While it started and developed really slow, the ending was very short and prompt.

Tatum, the friend, was exhausting. I cannot believe she is the heroine in the next book. Poor choices. She has a date or was it sex with Hank??? Hank has a common law wife. You will learn more about him in later books. Ugh and gross. Tatum constantly lies about who she is and where she came from to get attention. Attention seeker, that is two good words to describe her. Tatum has random sex. She just chases men. She needs to speak to a professional.
At one point in the story, Tatum uses her father’s password to look at the football team’s personal information. She uses her father’s card to get inside the stadium. Why is she not arrested!?!? There is nothing cute about her behavior. Maybe Daisy needs a friend who is outrageous to get out of her comfort zone, but I am not sure Tatum is the right choice.

There was so much about Tatum that it took away from Daisy and Knox’s story. I do not care about Tatum. She reminds me of a little rich girl with rich girl problems. If this was my first book that I read in the series, I would not pick up the other books.

One star taken off some there was too much Tatum.

This is just a Sweet book and a pleasure to read.

I was happy to hear that Daisy has her own book. I really liked her character in Stroke by Stroke and wanted her to get a happy ending (or at least hear more about her character).

Daisy is an odd duck (pun always intended). Knox is an odd duck as well. Their relationship is slightly awkward and stilted and weird in much of the book, but it is heartwarming at the same time.

I loved Knox and had a lot of empathy for his struggles and the fact that he just wanted to stay quiet most of the time to avoid saying the wrong thing. He was slightly relationship challenged, but Daisy was also stumbling through the relationship so it was understandable.

I liked the secondary characters in the book as well (even the crazy ones) and enjoyed the "treasure" hunt secondary storyline in the book.

All in all, this just an all around great HEA and I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys romance.

This was such a sweet and happy book. I'm not going to do a long review, but it's such a great story about how sometimes if you push yourself outside your comfort zone, you may find something that will make you happy.

Daisy and Knox were both very introverted, for different reasons, but each of them made the other want to change. They were both a bit odd, but worked well together. Their relationship was a bit stilted and slightly awkward, but it really worked for them. I loved how their story developed and how they both evolved as people throughout their story. I also thought the secondary characters were great, as loud and weird as they were.

This was a great book to read in between heavy dark gritty books which leave you feeling all twisted. I needed something sweet, with hope and love and The Big Hit was perfect as it had all those things and more. I will be going back and reading more of this author's work in the future.

So it appears I'm a treasure hunter and have come across this hidden gem.

I really loved this book, gives me vibes of Wall of Winnipeg, ie: huge, gruff, misunderstood mountain of a sports man. I love misunderstood heroes, the ones which people fear, except our heroine, who discovers he's a gentle giant with a hot as hell side.

I loved the way the hero and heroine connected, how their relationship went from friendship to more, I read a lot of romances which are now insta-love, but it's novels like this that I love, I crave the build up, the connection, the chemistry that isn't just rip your clothes off / now I love you. (Although, there is hot, steamy scenes, so you're not missing out on that!!

It's currently on Kindle Unlimited, so what are you waiting for?!

I loved this story.

It was nice to see how the relationship between Daisy and Knox blossomed naturally. Together they radiate so much tenderness and love.

Yes. There were their ups and downs and estrangement, but it was wonderful that two such different people with so many issues could break through those fears and dive head first into a relationship that was challenging for both of them.

And we also enjoyed the bonus that was Tatum's hilarious craziness. This girl promises adventure after adventure in her book. I look forward to reading it soon.

I loved this book. It honestly would’ve been 5 if I didn’t have to skim the beginning and some of the scenes with too much Tatum.

I loved the anxiety representation. The grumbly and silent Knox & all the ways daisy and him grew to know and love each other.

There were more sex scenes in this than her other books I’ve read and it went so perfectly. It was toooooooo good!!

Honestly this is a fav of mine 🥹🥹 I thoroughly enjoyed this. I got butterflies & felt what they felt.

Such a good healthy romance story.
Exactly what I like about sports romance!
I laughed with the characters and I was always excited to get back to reading it. I would definitely recommend.

Also, I loved the well done anxiety representation.

I loved Knox. Daisy sure worked hard to overcome her anxiety and panic attacks. I had them and they were portrayed corrected. You feel like you're having a heart attack even though you've never had one before but they're triggered some how ....there is therapy and for me, prayer.

Tatum ?? What happens to her?? She made Daisy look normal. But fun with her text groups and trying to get her dad's attention.

I thought the art project was going one way and then it got sinister, then it quickly went a whole different way in a few short pages. You really have to pay attention the last 10% of the book.

I thought the book could of had a better pace as it finished super fast but with a great epilogue.

You get an extra star for setting in northern Michigan which could not possibly financially swing a football team but fictionally was FUN. I'm living "sunrise side" northeast lower Michigan.

A timid librarian meets a famous football player...sounds like the worst kind of cliché there is, but this book actually has a slightly different mood and approach from what you would expect.
The main character is still a timid, inexperienced, quiet, and has anxiety and panic attacks. The love interest is still hunky, pretty, surly, and over-protective.
There is also a character of Tatum who gave me anxiety all the time, enough to want to just skip all interactions with her. Yes, she is very transparent in her brokenness and craving for someone to love her and need her, but she is just this chaos that never goes anywhere.
Every character is an unsocial weirdo, in one way or another, and has a wagon of issues with thick roots. It's their slow and tentative interactions (except for Tatum) that make this book not as much of a cliché as one would've expect. Even though for the first half of the book I just wanted to pick up and shake every character so they would stop hiding in their little worlds and start interacting with each other like they actually see each other.
What makes this book a little different are the little sweet moments where people finally start connecting, and standing up for what they feel and want.
When Knox starts talking, I want give this book 5 stars.
But Tatum and the portrayal of women from text books almost made me put down 3 stars. I changed it back and forth a couple of times, so I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about this.

The Big Hit is a stand-alone contemporary sports romance novel by Jamie Bennett in the the Woodsmen Universe.

It took reading this book to make me realize I’d already read Tatum and Camdyn’s books previously. I’m so overjoyed to have found found Tatum starring in another book, especially alongside Daisy. It opened up her character in a completely different way, and I helped me get a tiny dosing of her creative and erratic perky personality.

Daisy and Knox are honestly so similar. With their fear/dislike for public events or even having attention focused on them. When Knox pulled out his own list of date topics I about melted into heartwarming goo right there. I absolutely adored his nickname for our MC, bunny because of how fast her heart runs when she’s in his arms. Simply precious.

I think Bennett did a wonderful job combing Tatum’s certain brand of kookiness, with the blossoming of love for Daisy and Knox, as well as the intriguing happenings with the Italian painting her and Domenico spent the entire book covered in dust for.

Every further addition I find myself in within the Woodsmen Universe pulls me further into its orbit. I simply can’t seem to help enjoying these characters and this ‘Family’ so immensely.

Ever since I saw a list of the book order for the Woodsmen series, I decided to start reading them from the beginning. According to the list, this would be book #1.

This is not my favorite of the series but I still really REALLY enjoyed it. I think the only reason that this isn't a 5 is that the secondary character outshone the main character(s). While Daisy and Knox were a sweet couple, it was Daisy's friend Tatum who completely stole the show. It was like reading Vonnegut/Joseph Heller while watching Monty Python. Completely crazy and hilarious. It was also well balanced because Tatum by herself would have been way too much but she was in there just enough to keep the story going.

I did love that Daisy loved to read romance books. Often with shape shifters. Sometimes aliens.

I started to worry in a way that I knew wasn't productive, especially late at night. I got out my tablet to read and to let my mind shut off everything but the world built by the words, the story of true love and happily ever afters. And men who shape-shifted into bears.

2.5 rounded to a 3.

If there was less Tatum and more build up/meetings/scenes/whatever between Knox and daisy this would have been 5 stars. Oh and maybe a scene where we see Knox’s rage a bit more than just the reporter part.

This had so many parts to love for me - slow burn, big MMC, shy FMC, they meet in the library, he is not a manwhore, they are both awkward, it’s sports (a genre I am starting to like a lot). So so much to love. So much potential.

But Tatum was annoying, yes I see that she was used to help the plot move due to daisy being shy but Tatums introduction and everything about her was just horrible. There could have been so many different ways to achieve what was needed.

And there just wasn’t enough interaction between Knox and Daisy to really fall in love with this book. Literally scrap half of Tatum’s book time and fill it with the couple and it would have been so much better. I found myself wanting to skim read when the main couple wasn’t on the page.

Still enjoyed it but could have been so much better in my opinion.

The happiest ending

When I read stroke by stroke I was so hoping for Dais Daisy's story. I'm so happy she got her happy ending.
Jamie Bennet is becoming one of my favourite authors. I can't get enough of her books.
I fell in love with Knox the moment he was introduced in the book. I have a thing for broody silent types.❤️
It's amazing how engaging each book is, I can't put my phone down for this one either. And none of the story or characters felt repetitive. I'm trying really hard to not binge read the books, it's getting really hard to hold back now.
And Tatum! Omg, there wasn't a scene with her included in it that I didn't laugh my ass off! I'm so so glad she gets her own book. I'm downloading that right now! See? Can't help but binge read....😭 I'll be so disappointed when I won't have any books left to read.

Overall, great story.

Lovely story about a heroine who has overcome being raised by and caring for a mother with extreme agoraphobia as well as learning to cope with her own anxiety and is now living her own life, working and going to college (late, she is 26). She meets a kooky, troubled girl who becomes her best friend and a quiet, huge professional football player who is trying to finish up his college degree secretly. I have really come to love this author's books - they always suck me in and I fall in love with the characters. There isn't much in the way of steam or excitement, but I had a hard time putting it down and finished it in one day. Really looking forward to continuing my way through this author's backlist.

This amazing story is about Daisy , Dylan's sister ( from the book stroke by stroke).
She is 26 but has lived mostly very secluded with her mother. ( The book stroke by stroke is giving a very good background on her).
She meets Knox an impressive football player.
Their story is nice and we'll written. And also funny, thanks to Tatum the best friend of Daisy who is a young and wild student.
I have read the book on Tatum also afterwards ( the comeback route).
The three books are funny, very enjoyable since the characters are quite original and ackward in a nice way.
The characters are well described with much more depths than in most of romance book

cute, easy read

i think i picked up this book a year ago but thought daisy’s and tatum’s friendship too irritating to continue. i’m glad i ended up resuming where i left off because as the story progressed, it made me realize that someone like tatum was perhaps the exact thing daisy needed to get out of her shell.

in terms of knox and daisy’s romance, i thought it was cute and easy. they had an easy romance that is. there wasn’t much conflict between them so i don’t think they’re going to be everyone’s cup of tea. but honestly? i didn’t mind them at all. sometimes we need something light.

The story of Knox and Daisy. I am reading these books out of order, but I now realise that every heroine is dealing with their own mental illness challenge which is quite a challenge for me as I prefer stronger heroines in general. They all feel a bit needy! But I appreciate what the author is trying to do.

Daisy had social anxiety, particularly in new, crowded situations.

Knox was a beefcake of a football player who wasn’t good with people. Together they were actually pretty similar so it was quite a sweet parings.

It was a slow read with an art subplot which petered out a bit at the end.

Overall it was an ok read. On to the next!

gobbled it up

so I kind of food myself a disservice with this book..
I started it, but first chapter in I wasn't feeling it and skipped on to another book.
and then I started one that featured Tatum!
I knew I had to go back and read her backstory as a sidekick to Daisy in this book.
Well she sure is a wild one, and Daisy is totally the opposite and very very sane.
it was super sweet and by the end I really appreciated it but.. Think I'm ready for a couple who don't have tragic backstories!
I swear there's more normalcy and families just doing their best than the author likes to showcase...
anyhoo.. great book.

The Big Hit is a cute slow burn romance between two quiet and awkward people. Knox and Daisy both had such tough childhoods causing them to be introverted and often times lacking confidence in their social interactions. Their romance was sweet. I particularly loved how protective Knox was of Daisy. Daisy's friend Tatum seemed like a character hyped up on speed. She was exhausting to read, but did serve her purpose as the extrovert in their friendship. The mystery surrounding the missing artwork was a nice addition to the book's story.

I liked this book. It served as a change of pace from the darker books I enjoy. I could see myself reading more from this author.

A good read. The heroine's anxiety and other issues got on my nerves but she was actively working to be better.

The heroine's best friend is so awful and I CANNOT BELIEVE she gets her own book. I will not read it. She acts like an immature baby, drinking until she blacks out, stealing her father's car and crashing into the neighbor's stuff with it, stalking other football players, flunking out of college even though her dad pays for everything.

The love story was ok—sweet. It probably would get a 3, maybe 3.5 stars because it was sweet.

What really pushed this story to 4 stars for me was the FMC’s BF Tatum. Jamie Bennett has a knack for writing quirky characters, and, thankfully, you get a healthy dose of Tatum through the whole story. She so annoying, and odd, and charming, and surprisingly sweet. I think this book is worth reading for Tatum.

Hilarious at times and heartwarmomg

My first book from this author. I enjoyed it so very much. The characters were fun, realistic and I connected with them. I love books that can bring awareness and acceptance and support to mental health without making it a joke. Thanks for a beautiful romance.

I had a really hard time with all these weird people. Honestly, Tatum was the strangest person ever! And don't get me started on the main couple. It took me half the book to get into the story. It was like a very strange accident you just couldn't walk away from but after about 50% I kind of accepted the strangeness and got into the book. The end was quite cute so I give it 3.5 stars

FMC is a former agoraphobic and still quite anxious. MMC is a football player and assumed to be unintelligent by others. He's not a virgin IIRC. There are several scenes where he's very protective of her though, and he's definitely large & gentle. This is a slow burn. If you enjoy this one, Defending the Rush has a few similar elements too, though the MMC is not so quiet and he is not a virgin.
