If you devoured the MORTAL INSTRUMENTS series, then you'll adore this award-winning, action-packed, romance-touched, coming-of-age adventure of love, sacrifice, and destiny.

I find my self in a position truly upsetting for me.. Not finishing an ARC.. I'm so sorry but I have been trying to read this for months and I could only do a few pages at a time. I kept going back but each page just discouraged me more. This is very much a case of
My problem is that this is too YA for me. I tend to avoid YA unless the blurb really grabs me and this one certainly did. I just couldn't get into it once I started. The heroine was just too special. Special eyes and scars and dreams and boys and sisters. Just a bit too much on everything. And that's not a bad thing. And it was definitely building up to something great. But for me, it was a bit too much.. I would have preferred less specialness in the beginning that would evolve in to greatness.
Different people have different tastes, so please if the blurb interests you, do give it a try. Just because it didn't work to this jaded reader doesn't mean it wont for you.
Sorry..

When I came to post this review I noticed how many awards this book has been a finalist for during this year and I have to say I’m surprised it didn’t actually win most of them! It is a well crafted tale, which starts with bullying, a fatal crash and dreams becoming just too real and, too often, more nightmarish in nature. It is a paranormal mystery that unfolds through the pictures the author paints with her skilled word craft into the imagination of the reader.
As the story progresses, the heroine’s skills and abilities are uncovered, revealed and develop but the dark forces are moving ever closer in their quest to prevent her from restoring the balance and becoming…..
A powerful start to an enthralling new series with a strong female (and her sister) striving to uncover secrets to enable them to win in the battle against evil forces. The story is filled with mystery, suspense and intrigue as powerful forces battle for supremacy. There are so many twists and turns en route that the reader is kept guessing and adding sub plots to misdirect and add to the mystique of this fantastic fantasy which I have no hesitation in highly recommending to any young adult or mature reader who enjoys superbly crafted fantasy adventures.
Thanks to the author, publisher and YA Book Bound Tours, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.

Both her mom and Ryland start to act weird around her. Anala knows that their keeping secrets... but what? With no one to run to Anala grows tired of benign the shadows and not knowing what's happening to her.
Dark shadows will stop at nothing to crush Ana from restoring the world and... becoming.
This book is so unique!! The entire plot was out of this world and I loved it so much! Debra Kristi creates a modern world for you with secrets and shadows. The writing style was absolutely fantastic, as well as the humor. I feel like the characters were well developed, but since it's the first book in the series I feel like they could evolve and develop more. At the beginning of the book I felt quite confused because the main protagonist Anala is trying to figure out what's happening to her. And it almost feels like your going through the same emotions and confusion as she is. That aspect of the book made me want to read more because I needed to know what was going to happen to Anala. I needed to know what she was becoming.
There were many plot twists in this book, and right when I was sure something was going to happen.. something different happened instead, and it was so addicting! I really love the amount of action, and splash of darkness that Debra Kristi puts in the story. I feel like I can truly relate to Anala's character! She's super loving and caring, smart and talented, and she's so confident when it comes to her martial arts training. But most of all throughout the book I saw courage in Ana's character as well as determination!
Ryland is like the big brother I always wanted! He's constantly at Anala's side protecting her through her battles in high school as well as actual battles and fights! Through most of the novel I honestly thought that Ryand and Anala we're going to be an item.. But when Jaden comes into her life, my perspective changed drastically! Man I love how Jaden's character seems like he truly cares, loves, and is connected with Anala. I hope that they go far in their relationship.
In the end Anala fights many battles and loses the ones she loves.. Fighting for her family she's determined to restore her world Hiddenkel and planet Earth. Ana's new powers are just the beginning of what she's really capable of.
I'm really excited about the 2nd book Awakening in The Balance Bringer series to come out! I have to know what happens next!
I loved how the author managed to, from one moment to the next, surprise us with an Ana more determined. Making the characters more intense and creating breathtaking fight interactions. Something that annoyed me deeply in Ana was her emotional indecision, now she is magnetically attracted to Dohlan (her love interest in dreamland) or now she is intensely in love with Jaden, her love interest on earth and in Hiddenkel. What I do not understand is why she was so undecided regarding her feelings, as she was fully aware that Dohlan is mean as a snake and that just wanted to pull her to Hiddenkel and that Jaden was who had been destined for her, many many years ago.
"Becoming" was an amazing book, I loved reading it, the story was great and with the right amount of mystery, that unfortunately didn't capture me from the beginning, but after the book got good and I continued reading it till the end, and I'm not disappointed of my choice. It's a page turner and I hope to read the next book in the series.
This book has been my companion for some time now. It stayed with me through holiday madness, two rounds of the flu, and kept me entertained while rocking my baby to sleep. I kind of miss it now that it's not in my purse, night stand, or next to my morning coffee. It's always fun reading a friend's work, because the book becomes a little more personal.
Ana's journey is a mysterious one. After all, she's BECOMING something. What exactly? Not even she knows at first...
It kind of drives me crazy when I'm kept in the dark about things. So it was a little torturous to follow along with Ana...who happens to be, you guessed it, IN THE DARK about a lot of things. It kept me reading, that's for sure. Plus, Debra Kristi has a way with words. I actually dog-eared a few pages with beautifully written sentences.
If you're looking for a full-fledged fantasy with some sexy-eyed love interests. This one is for you!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book at no cost from the author in exchange for an honest review
Wow I read this story in one sitting, I was on the tip of my seat, eager to know what will happen with Anala. Two years earlier she was in an accident where she blames herself of her boyfriends death. At school, almost everybody is avoiding her and she go the interest of the school bully. But then strange things start to happen.
When she wakes up from a dream, she discovers that what happened in the dream, happened to her in real life. As she start to question who she is, she doesn't get any answers from her mother or her best friend Ryland as she discovers they seems to have a special bond together. Then there is Dohlan that breaths evil even though he makes her forget and the mystery boy Jaden from her dreams that takes her breath away.
The story builds to a crescendo as Ana finds is defending her self against unseen enemies. But soon she gets chased by shadows that are determined to destroy her. And there is her aunt Dreya the most powerful evil that can destroy Ana. The more she digs in to the secrets, the more she unravels. And when with the death of her sister Crysta , everything spins out of control. As she is chased by shadows it reminded me of a book 'The dark is rising' and when you think something terrible is going to happen, the story twists into an unlikely outcome.
I loved the story from the beginning, where the reader is fed a few pieces of the puzzle, who is she, why does she have those dreams that feel so real. Does she want to be this person and take on this responsibility? If you want a good mystery and an action packed story, this is the one. Love the mix of reality and fantasy woven into a fantastic story that craves more... what happens next... will she go back to Hiddenkel?
I don't usually read books like this, but something about it intrigued me and I'm glad I decided to give it a chance. The story was so interesting, I had to keep reading.
Between her family, her friends, and the evil forces that keep coming, Ana is constantly in shocking situations. Her world is turned upside down and it's so much fun to watch.
The author has me hooked and I can't wait to read the next one.
I stopped at 33%, mainly because nothing was really making sense. Maybe if I kept with a bit longer, things would have become clear - but I just couldn't get there. Anala, our FMC, has reactions that make little sense, as do the people around her. That, along with the general lack of description and stilted writing left me bothered. Does it get better? Leave me a comment, I may revisit it in the future.
This is just awesome! A well written story, action-packed, romance-touched, coming-of-age adventure that will grab you and not let you go! Great gripping storyline with great characters as we join Ana on her mysterious journey in this YA read! Emotional? Yes! Twists and turns? Oh yes! A great fantastical paranormal read? You betcha! Can’t wait to read book 2!
This story is so awesome and so mysterious. I love everything that's been introduced so far and can't wait to find out more. It's such a tease how we are only given bits and pieces along the way. With everything that happens and just the story and all the twists just... WOW... Mind Blown!!! I don't want to give even the tiniest bit away and spoil any of the awesomeness for anyone because you deserve to be as awed as I was reading this. Debra did such a great job I really can't believe I read something so awesome!!!
Becoming was an amazing ride. I feel like the term "rollercoaster" can be overused but it is befitting of this book. I enjoyed every second, every word. The author, Debra Kristi, really puts you into the book. It isn't a one-dimensional, flat reading experience by any means! You are pulled into the book from the very first page. The action is right there for you to dive right into. The protagonist, Ana, is a girl that girls and women of all ages will love and cheer for. She is an extremely likable character. I found myself very invested in her story and the outcome. There's no way you couldn't care about what happens to her. The work the author put into(all of) her character is extremely evident throughout the book. They are real people. I especially loved Ana's sister Crystia! She had so much spunk and humor. Ana's best friend Ry(Ryland) was a great character that I enjoyed reading about as well. His personality just jumped out of the book. It was too big to be contained and I loved that. I loved how protective he was of Ana and Crystia. I loved the girls' mother as well. Usually parents in YA books aren't very three dimensional- they're just flimsy side characters but not their mother. She was everything a mother should be- caring, loving, affectionate, protective, funny, a great listener, always there for her daughters, intuitive- so many things shone through her personality. Even the mean girl, Skylar was three-dimensional and very well developed. It wasn't flat or cliche. You love to hate her but come to realize there is a method to her madness, so to speak. And then you feel bad. But I don't want to give too much away. Just suffice it to say that the characters in Becoming are awesome! The character growth that you get to witness is so well done. Ana is a great character to begin with but it really is a coming of age and she shows growth and maturity throughout the book. As I'm sure she will continue in the books to come. The plotline is amazing as well! It can be somewhat confusing at times at first but it's supposed to be. That's part of the genius! It's the author's way of putting you inside Ana's head and helping you understand what she is experiencing and feeling, as a result of it. It's like climbing inside the book and experiencing it yourself. You get to feel everything Ana does. There was not a single slow part in the book. It was very well paced to keep me interested and invested on what is going on. To the point that I couldn't put it down. I just had to know what happens next. The mystery aspect was very well executed. You are never given too much or too little to keep you interested and understand what's going on. You are able to make your own predictions but not to the point that it's predictable. Some of the predictions I made were close but never exactly right and I actually like that. I find that it makes for a Michele enjoyable reading experience. A happy medium. The world building was done very well for you to understand and enjoy being a part of it as you are reading. It was original and fun to read about. Again, I don't want to give too much away but it is a very unique and interesting take on this particular type of YA Fantasy! When I finished I immediately wanted more! Right away but not because it ended on a cliffhanger, like some books, but because the world and characters the author has created are intriguing. I want to learn more about them and this new world. Its just that great! I would definitely recommend Becoming to EVERYONE! It is one of the best books I have had the pleasure of reading this year! *I was provided with a copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review*
Our heroine in this story is Anala, or Ana. For a long time she dreams of a place called Hiddenkel where she gets to spend time with some people she’s grown to care about. In this dream world of hers she gets to spend time with her older sister Kaia. Of course, as far as she knows this sister never really existed anywhere other than her dreams. The only sister she knows is her sister Crystia. Her dream world of Hiddenkel is also where she gets to meet the alluring Dohlan, she feels a pull to him she can’t explain. Things quickly start to change and Ana begins to wonder just how much of her dreams are fantasy and how much is real. Her best friend Ryland seems to know more than he’s letting on and her mother won’t offer her any answers either. When things and people from her dreams start showing up in her real life and she starts to develop strange abilities she realizes she has to find answers and quick… Because not everything or everyone from her dreams is good and dark shadows seem to be coming after her during the day.
This book was completely different from most of the books I read but I’m glad I gave it a chance. It’s hard to talk too much about the details of the story without giving anything away so I’m going to try to stay away from that. At the start of the story we find Ana confused with a lot of things… her dreams and the secrets she feels are being kept from her by the people closest to her. To be honest, for longer than I’m used to I was also VERY confused! However, as the story went on and things became clearer for Ana they also became clearer for me. It became a major way of connecting to the main character. I found myself saying things like “What!? How could they have not told us that before now?!!” Major revelations to Ana became major revelations to Ana and me. I can honestly say that this is one of the only books I’ve read in a while that surprised me and kept me guessing from start to finish.
I read a lot of different genres of books but tend to stick with contemporary novels. Becoming: The Balance Bringer is more fantasy than I’m used to. It felt like part contemporary and part other time and other worldly. It really made me feel like the places Ana traveled to in her dreams were real. The longer I read the more I wanted to know about the fantasy world called Hiddenkel. The last part of the book explodes with action and revelations and left me wanting more. My imagination is already running wild thinking of all the possible scenarios Ana will soon find herself in. All in all a fun read, especially for lovers of fantasy.

Ana has always had dreams, very realistic dreams. Her life is not going the way she would like and now it seems her dreams are coming to life. The guy she has know all her life Jaden is here. In person. Now she doesn't know what's real or a dream. Someone has some splaining to do, only everyone who seems to know the truth about her is keeping a tight lip. Around every corner there seems to be danger looming until an unfortunate turn of events leads to the truth, the truth about who she really is.
Now on her way "home" she fights all sorts of battles to get there all the while being stalked by Dohlan the other guy in her dreams. One who she knows is a danger but cannot fight the power he has over her. Hopefully when she gets home she can fulfill her destiny and not fall into his overwhelming power, after all this is his home also. Yikes! Poor Ana she has two dream guys but only one will win! I love Debra Kristi's writing, she has exotic taste. Her writing has a life all it's own and doesn't form into the typical "love story" most fall into. I love the fast paced ride she always gives me.
I really liked Ana, her personality was meek and sweet with a slight edge of defiance. She was going to find out who she was at all cost because she knew she was different just didn't know how so. The more she learns the more she grows and when all the pieces to the puzzle start falling into place, she slowly grabs ahold of her destiny and allows her friend Ry and her dream guy Jaden escort her home. With all the twisty and turvey obstacles she faces she learns a little more about herself. She starts Becoming into herself and it was fun to watch or read :)
I liked Ana and Jaden's budding relationship, it was sweet and he obviously cared about her. If only Dohlan would leave her alone and stop confusing her, he might have a chance. I hope so but so much was left unsaid and can't wait for the next book in the series.
Becoming: The Balance Bringer is another amazing book by the talented Debra Kristi!
The Balance Bringer is about a young girl, Ana, who lives a completely normal life. She goes to highschool, she gets bullied, she kind of likes a boy, she is really close with her sister, and she had bad dreams. Who would have known that these dreams would some how connect her to her heritage and begin showing her pieces of who she is and where she belongs!
Ana begins to realize that her life is not what it seems. Her mother and her friend Ry have been lying to her, her whole life. Ana and her sisters were born for something greater than themselves.
"There is always only one. The other two die in order for the one to fulfill her destiny"
Ana and her sisters do not belong in this world. Ana has to watch as her life changes and people die. She struggles with her destiny and who she needs to become. Her mother an immortal warrior and her father a fae, Ana is destined for greatness.
"Maybe I'll wake up in the morning and find this was all a bad dream." "None of this is a dream, you know. You're really here, and so am I." "Did he just read my thoughts?"
After reading Debra's Moorigad Dragon Collection, I was extremely excited to read Becoming! Debra's writing style is so creative and unique. She is always able to grab me and keep me until the very last page. My mind is once again blown away, by the awesome world Debra Kristi brought me in to! The characters were awesome and so easy to relate to at times. I can not wait for the next book in this series!
I would like to thank the author for sending me a review copy of her book.
At first, I was confused at the story build- up but I can’t seem to stop reading it but as I keep on reading, I get to feel the interest and I can’t stop.
I love this unique fantasy book. Magic, dark forces, a world within your dreams, warriors, goodness count me in!
I love how the imagination of the author keeps the story moving. I love every bit of it. Every detail fits perfectly and it provides you the information needed. It kept my emotions intact and I love how every scene is going on.
Hearing that this book has a sequel, I would love to read more of it.
At first I was a little disappointed in the starting of the book kept me kind of lost . But about halfway through the book it caught my attention and got interesting . It keeps you on the edge of your seat I'm looking forward to reading the second book.
I received this book free in exchange for my honest review. A great story that the author has taken her time in telling and it's refreshing! A journey of growth both for the main character and those around her. A wonderful start to an amazing fantasy tale of good vrs evil !!
Wow. What an awesome journey this was. I almost didn’t read this as I have so many arcs to read. But I am so glad I did. It was a voyage of discovery, the like of which I haven’t felt for some time. The truth has been kept from Ana for 18 years and it’s an inspiration how she copes with all the changes. This is a mystical and magical story not to be missed. I loved it so.
Want to see what this wild adventure has brought them to. What is this place, how does Ana fit there? Is it Jaden or Dohlan? Wonderful, fast paced story that will leave you anxiously waiting for the next book.
All Ana has known from her peers growing up are jeers, cruel pranks and spite....we open at a dance where once more Ana is the subject of cruelty. For once in her life a young man (Jeremy) saw the real her and invited her to said dance. After whisking her out of the nightmarish incident, her evening takes an even darker turn. Who would've thought a tree could cause so much pain...but indeed it does as it's the cause of death to the one person to show her kindness. Distracted momentarily, Jeremy and Ana collide with a massive tree.....upon waking to Ry (a guy she knows from school) trying to get her out of the wreckage...she refuses to believe nothing can be done for Jeremy, but it's too late for her savior and friend. Always the outsider thanks to her unique eyes and odd facial birthmark in the shape of a starfish. Goodness knows she's NEVER felt normal either....at night she's plagued with dreams on another sister (Kaia) in a strange world. Her evenings spent training and talking with Kaia....so up in waking she's exhausted and confusd. Can these people, events and things she sees be real? Or are they all a figment of her imagination? Her best friend Ry is like family since becoming her rescuer the night of the tree accident. He's a constant presence at her house with her beloved sister Crystia and their mother. As the days go by though, Ana is convinced there's far more to these dreams than just mere dreamscape. Ry and her mum seem to be extremely familiar for a peer of hers with her mother....and they seem to be keeping confidences. Crystia shares that she too has these dreams of their "sister" and as the days go by they sometimes see the same things. Add that together with why Ryan and her mother seem to be pushing her in martial arts training and other techniques....she's suddenly much faster in the pool, and can stay underwater far longer than is normal....she's healing super fast....what the heck is going on??? And who do the mysterious green eyes belong to from her faceless stranger that seems to be appearing more frequently in her odd dreams. Ana is CONVINCED that something is definitely going on. Either that or she's totally losing her mind. Take the ride with Ana as she slowly unravels the secrets and mysteries....how she becomes stronger within and begins to come into her own. Will she discover her heritage, and learn what she's truly up against? This book.lays the brilliant groundwork for this series! I for one cant wait to see what's next....and what kind of blood courses through Ana you wonder...is it fae, immortal, supernatural....or is she just a normal growth issues and an active imagination? All shall be revealed as we take the journey of the Balance Bringer. Note:one unexpected side effect from reading this amazing book is it DEFINITELY makes me more grateful for family. Remember to let your loved ones know ow NOW what they mean to you.
Lots of unique ideas and cool elements. There's fun settings; the author does a good job with her descriptions of a scene that really paint an awesome picture in my mind. There's interesting characters as well, and I enjoyed the magical elements. The writing doesn't quite flow well at times. In the beginning, main character, Ana, has experienced a loss, is having weird dreams that seem too real, and is experiencing weird things in real life, so it's understandable that she's feeling like she might be a bit crazy and things are discombobulated. I attributed the weird flow of the story as Ana's state of mind being challenged because she's dealing with some unbelievable things. There is some really weird stuff going on in her life, so it makes sense that random shifts of scene would happen in Ana's life; there's magical things causing strife in Ana's life. I don't know if that was the author's intent or if the writing just doesn't flow, but that's the way I took it. Ana is a strong character in many moments, but she's also kind of maudlin, so I didn't quite connect with her. She's been kept in the dark about a lot of things she should've been told; she's been done a real disservice, so she hasn't had the opportunity to really come into her own. She's woefully ill prepared and coddled at times. The problems in her life could've really improved with some honesty from those in her life. There's some majorly dangerous things going on in Ana's life, which made for some entertaining action. What missed with me in this story was the romance aspect; I actually don't really think there's much romance in this. The connection just wasn't there for me with anyone. Dohlan is obviously untrustworthy, and Ana is just a moron with him. Jaden and the Skylar thing was just stuipid. His excuse was just so lame, and the whole situation was just junk; it felt like he's playing games with Ana. Also, I hated how Ana handled Skylar, or rather didn't handle her; she'd just always cower away. Ana does get a bit more confident as the story goes on, but I still wanted more from her. Overall, I found the story a very entertaining read with a premise that has me wanting to continue the story with the next book. There's still a lot of things that need to be discovered and explained, and a lot of places for the characters to grow and improve. So, I'm excited to see where the story goes!
I have mixed feelings about this one, to be honest. It didn't start out very promising, but since I was really interested in the premise and the world, I pushed through, and I flew through the second half. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
I have mixed feelings about the main character. On one hand, I had a really hard time connecting with her. I'm not entirely sure why, but I think it's about the way she acted. But I still enjoyed reading about her. She was interesting, she was quirky, and she was such a badass. I couldn't relate to her, but I was still very interested to see how things would turn out for her.
The romance was... I'm not even sure what word to use here. It was... different. At the beginning, it seems like there will be three love interests (a... love square?) which made the main character seem really boy crazy. But it gets better with time, and it becomes clear that we aren't talking about a whole bunch of love interests. (Also something really icky that is super spoilery, but thankfully that's just very brief.)
The plot was good. It started out a bit slow, and it felt like it took a while to really start, but I think that has more to do with the world-building than the actual plot. But overall, the plot was great, and it's very promising for the upcoming books in the series.
The world-building could've definitely been better. It took a very long time before we (the reader) learned anything real about the world, which annoyed me a bit. For the most part of the book, it was mostly lies and very vague statements that could mean anything. It wasn't until after halfway through that I actually learned anything about the world, and then everything came at once. I would've liked the information to have been spread out more evenly through the book, but the world is very interesting and it wasn't until around 40% through that it started bothering me.
Overall, it was a definitely enjoyable read, but more importantly, it's an interesting beginning to a series that will make it impossible to quit after reading the first book. So now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go read the second book.
After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story. It’s an amazing start to the series and written from the perspective of Ana, a teenage girl who has been bullied relentlessly by the most popular girl in school and has been traumatized by her boyfriend’s death two years earlier.
Ana has been having these dreams lately, but now they are starting to enter her waking life. She is hunted by shadows, and strange abilities start to develop. She also knows her mother and best friend are keeping secrets from her…secrets directly related to these anomalies.
An excellent coming of age book, well written, with action packed scenes, adventure, and a touch of romance. We have a very diverse and well-developed cast of characters, Ana in particular, but also Ry when everything comes to light.
All romantic interaction is clean and contains no adult content, however, there are some instances of strong language, and there is a scene involving a funeral of a loved one, which might be a trigger for some, but for me, set the emotional pace of the scene, and amplified the emotions during the rest of the story.
Definitely a must-read for anyone who likes coming-of-age fantasy. I’m looking forward to seeing how Ana’s journey continues in the rest of the series!
It is eons later than in the first book. We are now to read the story of Ana and Jaden. Ana lives in the moral world. It is her mother, sister, and her. When she is 16, she is at a school dance and her date and her head home after once again suffering humiliation at the hands of her nemesis. They crash into a tree and he dies. Two years later, Ana is still having weird dreams but always the same people appear in them. She sees battles, a sister, Dreya, her mom, Crista, Dohlan, and other lands. They make absolutely no sense to her. Her mother is keeping secrets and it is frustrating her to no end. Ryland appeared after the accident two years previous. He has been training her to fight in multiple ways. Weird things keep happening to her. She has the ability to heal fast, hold her breath underwater for long periods, and is faster than others. Wow! With lots of threads, fantasy, dreams, secrets and reality, Debra Kristi weaves a fantastic story about 18 year old Ana who can't understand the powers she seems to exhibit and feels her mother knows more than she's telling her. Steeped in grief for her boyfriend's death she climbs within herself going about things day to day while things keep changing and she feels something dark is after her and she is so confused about the changes and her powers and she goes within her dream world of Hiddenkel - but is it a dream world. What is real, why is so much happening she can't understand. I love the descriptions as the author creates and incredible movie of the mind. We see her confusion between Jaden and Dohlan. With so many twists and turns and some humor, this books keeps you reading right to the end without putting it down. Will Ana find herself, control her newly found powers and save Hiddenkel, her family and the universe without destroying everything she loves? I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
From the get go this book gets its claws in deep. I found it so hard to put this book down.
The story revolves around the balance bringer coming into her own.... Becoming. Since turning eighteen Anala has been coming into her powers but she is totally oblivious to this as who she is meant to be has been kept from her her whole life, she just thinks she is going crazy. Anala has a connection to Jaden yet has a compelling need for another, Dohlan (an incubus) both appear in her dreams. She suffers losses and faces many trials in order to return home...... Will she make it!
The characters each have their own strengths and weaknesses but compliment each other's needs. The story is fast paced with many different scenes that you can easily picture in your mind from how the author describes them.
An amazing read you will not regret picking up. My only disappointment is having to wait for the next book but I have already pre ordered it.
Ana has a red birthmark on her face in the shape of a star and has always been the target of bullies at school. Skylar and her group of wannabees are the biggest thorns in her side. While at the Winter Formal dance at school, somehow the punch bowl just happens to be overturned onto Ana so she looks similar to Carrie in the Stephen King novel. Jeremy returns from the bathroom and takes Ana away from the dance. On the way home, their car ends up crashing headfirst into a huge tree. Jeremy is killed but Ana survives and now she feels guilty. Ry shows up and carries Ana away from the wreckage. Two years later, Jayden, the green-eyed boy from her dreams, turns up. The magic Ana has keeps showing up in small ways when her emotions are in play. Now, around every corner it seems, there are dark shadows chasing her, wanting to kill Ana. This Cinderella retelling is fun to read, contains action, some romantic feelings, and ends in a cliffhanger. Highly recommended.
Our heroine is discovering that she has powers and those powers have consequences if she doesn't get them under control. Of course, that is easier said than done.
This is book one of the series, so a fine place to start.
This is an urban fantasy story with a young adult bent to it. The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed setting that seems more dream than reality, at least at the beginning. The characters are also well done. They start off very green and then manage to grow throughout the series. They still have a ways to go, but then that is the gist of the story. Overall, I enjoyed the introduction to a new world and look forward to seeing where it leads.
Highly recommended.

ONE EXCEPTIONAL READ!!! Wow! I loved the way this tale played out. Hands down its one fantastic read that captures your attention from the start. This bad boy right here has more drama than a sane person could handle, good thing I'm not sane. The characters were intriguing, complex and realistic. Following the characters along mesmerized as their personalities transformed and blended. Twists, turns and unpredictable surprises around every corner that will leave you reeling. A whirlwind of emotions that could bring you to your knees one second or lift you to the heavens in the next. Debra did an excellent job bringing this read together beautifully. Phenomenal job Debra, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
