This book had a lot of great information for the beginning podcaster, and a lot of it is common sense that you'll need. The chapters are well-defined and if you follow along and take notes of highlight, you should have no trouble creating a winning podcast. I've been podcasting for over six years, and I found some cool ideas in this, too, which I will use.
This was a disappointing book which never really became properly helpful. Firstly, the structure is odd. It seems to start with the assumption that you want to start a podcast but have no idea what it would be about. this seems bizarre to me as sure the idea for content would come first. It is not until Chapter 5 that the author discusses what tech might be required. She also suggests that spending hundreds of dollars per episode to have a professional audio editor prepare it is normal. She therefore gives negligible information on this vital aspect. Ironically, a writing editor would have been useful on the book. While the writing is generally fine, there are some odd errors that an editor should have caught, such as 'convalesce' when she meant 'coalesce.'
There is categorically incorrect information about Google Drive. Google does not own everything you store in GDrive. That's nonsense.
This is perhaps useful if you know nothing about podcasting already but if you have even the most basic understanding, there will be nothing useful here. I don't think there's anything that can't be found for free on the internet.
Relying on over a decade of radio and podcasting experience, Amanda brings a savvy, smart, and sophisticated approach to content creation, distribution, and marketing within the world of podcasting. In a field that seems completely saturated and impenetrable, Amanda breaks down the end-to-end process in a personable way that fosters creativity and imagination. By going through each phase of podcast production, Amanda illustrates that, with the right idea, anyone can successfully launch a podcast. Podcasting has the benefit of not adhering to the same stringent regulations as other forms of media, and Amanda takes this concept to explore the endless possibilities that podcasting can bring to you and your audience. From the conceptual to the technical, Amanda’s insight into the podcasting world shows just how accessible producing a podcast can be. And that is important when writing about a medium that can explore the richness and complexity of human lives with minimal to no restrictions. Amanda’s book is both a well-informed roadmap and a confidence booster for those looking to create the next big thing in podcasting.
Podcasts are here to stay and they are becoming ever more popular. If you, like me, are wondering if you have what it takes to start a podcast then this book is the perfect place to start. It provides you with an overview of all the basics: from types of podcasts, equipment needed, preparation for recordings, interview preparation, preparing material, to related matters of monetizing the podcast, handling social media, audience building etc. In other words, everything you need to get started and build something of lasting value to you and your audience.
This is a great book for anyone who wants to learn the basics of PodCasting or wants to improve the knowledge they already have on this subject. The book covers the A, B, and Cs of this subject. The information can be acted upon. The book also provides a reference that one could return to whenever questions arise. I like books that provide actionable steps and later serve as a reference. This makes this book a good buy.
Thanks to Armand Rosamilia for the recommendation. I didn't know much of anything about Podcasting, but thought it might be something I'd like to pursue. Now, I know a lot of more, in theory lol, haven't put anything into practice yet. I liked the simplicity of the book, everything made sense step by step from idea to release. I appreciated the concrete examples and suggestions of websites, equipment, and software. Wish me luck!
This books packs a ton into a fairly small package. It covers everything from software to knowing your why, with plenty of detailed guidance on a variety of other topics. Best yet, the author is deeply experienced in podcasting, so she knows what she’s talking about. I highly recommend this great book on starting a podcast.
First full disclosure: I received a pre-publication copy of this book from the author with a request for an honest review.
This book pretty much covers the bases on podcasting, including quite a few points I hadn't read elsewhere before and resources I didn't know about. A good reference before you start.
If you’re thinking about doing a podcast, you should read this book. It’s filled with thorough and very important information for people who want to have a successful podcast.
Very thorough in her knowledge of podcasting. Opened my eyes to many great resources, and although definitely daunting, it's a challenge I'll definitely be undergoing in the near future!
Super informative. My friends gifted it to me and it is a fairly easy read. It covers everything from the ground up to get you started. Glad I got it as a present and hope to put it to good use in 2021. It doesn't cover getting over your fear of making it though.
Useful as a basic step-by-step guide but the fact that she suggests getting someone to do the producing for you indicates it's not one for DIY podcasters.
