To travel hopefully is better than to arrive...

When Maisie Frobisher arrives in Bombay she is looking forward to a life of parties and sightseeing. Fate, though, has other plans.

At first Maisie thinks that her biggest problem will be adjusting to the restrictions of life in Bombay while Inspector Hamilton gets on with his job. But when an information leak sparks conflict, it becomes clear that the theft of a document on board ship is part of something much bigger. And when Maisie receives a bizarre message from ‘Leopard’ via the personals column of the local newspaper, she has no choice but to get involved.

Someone doesn’t want her to, though. Soon Maisie finds herself the subject of a whispering campaign, and ostracised by society - but that becomes the least of her worries as danger looms.

Can Maisie and Inspector Hamilton unmask the mole? Who is the mysterious Leopard? And when they meet him, will they come back alive?

Off The Map is the second book in the Maisie Frobisher Mysteries series, set in the mid-1890s.

I grew up in south London, did an English degree, and then took forever to start writing. The stories started to grow longer...and then the murders began!

I tend to write Victorian mysteries of a not-too-scary nature. I've somehow managed to have 3 separate Sherlock Holmes-themed series (why make things easy?). I also co-wrote the Caster & Fleet mystery series with Paula Harmon, and my Maisie Frobisher Mysteries series is a spinoff from that.

I write a modern cozy mystery series, Pippa Parker Mysteries, and my newest series, The Magical Bookshop, is a cozy mystery series with a touch of fantasy and magic.

Visit my website for book info, links to stories, and my blog, in which I ramble on about all sorts of things. Hope to see you soon.

This Book is Marvelous!

Kept me interested the entire book. Not a slow chapter in the lot. If you like a fairly fast paced book (and who doesn't?) This entire series is for you.

Not one of my favourite books. I had trouble getting in to the book finding the first chapters rather slow. I have to say that this could be because I had not read the first Maisie Frobisher book. However, I continued reading and found the characters quite interesting and amusing. Wouldn't you just like to slap Mrs. Smythe !! Her attitude stinks. An entertaining look into the role and behaviour of the english lady in India in Victorian times. Maisie Frobisher and Inspector Hamilton put their lives on the line trying to discover who is passing information to the wrong people and discover not everything is as it appears. I was a bit disappointed that Mrs Carter did not divulge any more background information but maybe that's for the next book.

Not an action packed story but a good read nevertheless.

Maisie must come to terms with her life in Bombay. She has a message from Leopard in the Personals, she is being shunned by the females of society, and she must embark on a dangerous mission. Maisie is adventurous, however, she is considering leaving. I enjoyed this novel as much as All At Sea, and am looking forward to the next novel in this series.

Excellent!

Second entry in series is delightful! Maisie and her maid navigate the social dilemma of Bombay while Inspector Hamilton starts his new undercover assignment! Social mores of the times, different cultures living together but apart, and continuing effects of episode on the ship provide confusion, laughter, aggravation and a terrific as adventure.

Great read.

I like her characters and the way they interact with each other. Especially the unspoken communication and reactions. It is artfully done drawing you into the story. The description of the settings as well isn’t overly done but just enough to give you a glimpse into that world. Thank you for an entertaining story.

Another Cracking Victorian Mystery

Continuing the escapades of Maisie and the Inspector. Following on from the previous story we find ourselves in India on the trail of the elusive 'Leopard'. Brilliantly written and some great historical details.

It was ok but not as good as the first book in the series. Still a clean, easy read.

Great series

This is the second book that I have read in the series. The character development is good. The plots are believable. I look forward to reading book three.

Mai sie is mostly enjoying her adventures as a woman of means sufficient to give her liberty and time - until a whisper campaign and some shenanigans an alleged spy carries out bring her new world into an uproar- a far less fun time.

Maisie must put her mind and skills to work - and hopefully preserve enough of her reputation to allow her to follow her heart

This was a good read! I haven't read anything else by this author but I will be adding her to my TBR list. This took us back in time to the late 1800's India. India seems exotic now. I can only imagine how it seemed then. It was an interesting look at the times and how the social mores kept people separated. The mystery was good and I loved the characters. Maisie is adorable and extremely adventurous considering she was young, single and travelling alone to foreign places. Very entertaining.
