Jed and Dakota couldn’t be more different.

One’s an overly cautious, nerdy workaholic who just can’t seem to loosen up. The other’s a hot, tattooed bar owner who doesn’t take anything very seriously.

An undeniable attraction flares between them when they get stuck in a cozy cabin right before the holidays. All too soon though, the storm passes and they’re back out in the real world. There are a million reasons why this should be nothing more than a weekend fling, including the fact that Jed’s life is in San Francisco and Dakota’s is in the Sierras. Plus, Jed’s demanding career doesn’t exactly allow time for a social life.

But when something feels so right, can either man just walk away?

Or will two total opposites figure out how to make it work, despite all the obstacles in their path?

This light-hearted holiday romance is set in the world of Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever Series. While long-time readers will recognize some familiar faces, this novella can be read as a stand-alone.

Comfort and Joy is book #16.6 in the Firsts and Forever series by Alexa Land. This is my first book by this author and it can most definitely be read as a stand alone. I saw a full length book by Alexa that caught my attention but decided to jump in with this novella first and I’m so glad I did!

Dakota North lives in his cabin up in the mountains near Lake Tahoe. He owns a small bar in a little town nearby. His life is solitary but that’s what he wants. He has the customers at the bar for company. But on one particular night near Christmas on his way home from work he spied a car stuck in the mud on the side of the road. And for some reason the driver was jumping around outside without any clothes on in the freezing temperatures! Little did Dakota realize how much his life was about to change.

Arctic Snow Machine from Le Maitre | Le Maitre USA

Jedidiah (Jed) Jorgensen lives in San Francisco and works for a corporation where he spends almost all his time trying to impress his boss and secure his future. Because that is all that matters to him, having a secure future. Even if he is too exhausted when he gets home to his tiny apartment at night to have any social life. Jed is on his way to spend Christmas with his brother up in the mountains at a resort but it’s pouring down rain, he his horribly lost, and now he’s stuck. What are the chances anyone will come along and find him? But then there they were, headlights, his rescuer.

15 Funniest Pictures of Wet Cats | LoveToKnow

Dakota has to bring Jed back to his cabin to ride out the storm. The chemistry, the instant attraction between these two is so strong neither can ignore it. But the longer they are stuck together, a whole new Jed begins to appear, a Jed who laughs, jokes, a Jed who doesn’t have insomnia. And Dakota realizes that he was lonelier than he realized. That he was enjoying having Jed with him. Even though he knew that their time together had an expiration date.

This was such a sweet, fun, sexy little holiday story. There really wasn’t anything I didn’t like about it. There were some laugh out loud moments, plenty of sigh worthy moments and some steamy ones. I loved the transformation that Jed went through. These two were just so cute together. I enjoyed this so much and definitely look forward to exploring more of this author’s work!

An adorably sweet holiday story. I love the forced proximity, stuck in a snowstorm trope and this one didn't disappoint. Jed and Dakota are complete opposites that work so well together. I loved every moment with them and more often than not had a smile on my face.

Although part of the Firsts and Forever series it would work well as a standalone, although there are cameo appearances from plenty of the extended Dombruso+ family. Another wonderful story from Alexa Land!

I found this to be a super sweet and adorable (and a little bit steamy) holiday novella! Dakota and Jed meet when Jed’s SUV breaks down on the side of the road and Dakota rescues him.

This forced proximity, M/M story was exactly what I needed. It was full of charming goodness and gave me plenty of smiles and giggles.

This is a novella from the Firsts & Forever series, which I have not read. That series doesn’t need to be read first for this one to be enjoyed.

In keeping with the flow of the First and Forever series, we get a fun, sexy, deeply thought filled M/M romance ! So, get comfy and relax, to feel the love in this tale.
First we have Jed, nerdy workaholic, headed to the ski resort for Christmas with the big and wild, extended Dombrusco family, including Nana. In the horrible rain he lands in a muddy ditch, in his underwear, flags down a traveler.
Dakota is a local bar owner, muscled, tattooed, bearded and helpful. With more vehicle damage, they both walk to Dakota's cabin. They are making the best of it, eating, talking, and are cozy and warm. Later, with a tipsy Jed, he tells Dakota "he's done stuff," but basically he's a virgin.

Dakota and Jed sleep together, just sleep, and will proceed slowly, with Dakota insistence. Our guys get along so well, for being opposites, and are falling for each other. Then, in comes family, lively as ever, fun and caring, where Dakota fits right in.

The men even figure out snow for Christmas for the kids and all !

Our men take their baby steps into sexy times, with frotting, BJs and cuddles until later on. Each is hesitant, because really, how can they work out living apart.

I have loved this whole wonderful series. It's funny, serious, exciting and heartwarming, with lots of sexy men.

This is a Christmas delight !
ENJOY !

What a cringe fest. This book is almost as bad as Kissing in the Snow in regards to bad writing, no real characterisations, and super cringey dialogue in the way that makes you constantly yell in your head, “no one would actually talk like this!” Also, there is a ton of direct speech not embedded in any accompanying phrases that set the mood for the conversation or give you any clues as to how the characters think or feel about, or react to the things that are being said. Just line after line after line of direct speech slapped onto the page. Because of the bad dialogue the characters feel immature and unrealistic. So does the plot, but I could have forgiven that if the writing were decent.

Perfect Christmas love story

Jed is a bit of a workaholic and needs to have some serious fun. He meets the perfect man to take him on the journey to find the fun that he’s missing.
Dakota is sweet but a lonely guy.
Jed and Dakota really connect.

Will Jed give up his workaholic ways?
You find out plus Nana is in the story along with several other members of her extended family that you know and love.

This is the perfect Christmas romance with humor and love. Especially the Cessna delivery! *Giggles!*

This was super sweet and so adorable. Nothing angsty here just a feel good holiday story. I don't think it's imperative that you read the Firsts and Forever series with this one - I think it would be okay as a standalone - but just a heads up, there are some characters from the series that show up.

Very cute, quick read. While it's part of a series, it's one of those books that you can certainly read as a standalone.
There was a definite case of insta-lust/love with Jed and Dakota, but not over the top or unrealistic. I think sometimes two people just click and that was the case for these two. Jed and Dakota are complete opposites, but they're just what the other one needed. I thought they were really sweet together.

2.5 stars - This book felt so rushed. I don’t mind insta-love stories, but these guys had only known each other for roughly 3 days before they were making major life changes for each other. I didn’t feel like there was any time to get to know Dakota.

The story just fell kinda flat for me.

I probably would have given this more if I was familiar with the series. You don't NEED to read the other books but it's probably more enjoyable as there is lots of interacting with other characters.

Workaholic Jed is heading out from San Francisco to spend Christmas with his brother and some filthy rich family who kind of adopted the two of them (see, get more if read other books). When he gets lost and ends up in the ditch in an ice-storm he is rescued by Dakota who runs a dive bar in a small town and has a cabin. They are complete opposites, with Jed working for a sense of security (he - and his older brother- were banished from their family when they came out) and figures making sure he has a job earning money is the way to go. Dakota is more of a "are you happy" kind of guy. They spend some stranded time together and decide to have some fun (Jed also a virgin) and when they are finally rescued, offer to let Dakota stay that the hotel with them because his truck broke down trying to help Jed out of the ditch.

Jed finds it hard not to try and "fix" things for Dakota and ends up recruiting this rich family to come to the bar a few nights for theme nights but knows long distance won't work, and Dakota's not prepared to be an afterthought.

So it was cute and there are lots of kids and other members. A bit of more money than brains happening with the extended family but if you have read the other books you'll probably love this, but it was okay. Sweet and cute but didn't really LOVE it.

Sometimes I think hey, I should try my hand at writing. I’m full of stories so it’d be easy, right? Well, I’ve never written anything past some creative writing stuff in college and I’m sure anything I did would be unpolished and obviously in need of major editing. While reading this story I kept thinking, this would be like a first effort from me. Conversations that don’t feel natural, insane situations that sound clever but just draw me out of the story, and a kind of lumbering inevitability to the whole thing. As always, I’m the outlier amongst reviews. But hey, it was free, so there’s that.

Christmas feels Firsts and Forever style

This was such a fun, sweet, romantic novella. I enjoyed both the new couple and getting to see some old favorites from the series (including a certain themed lockpick set - I laughed out loud when that showed up). Alexa’s books always leave me with a smile on my face, and this was no exception.

“The world needs people who carry umbrellas, just as much as it needs the ones who dance in the rain.”

I really need to learn to read synopsis before I read books! Jed is on his way to a lodge to see his brother and his “adopted” family for Christmas and gets stuck uphill on a mountain. Dakota tries to pull his truck out of the muck and mud, and can’t. Dakota invites Jed to stay with him until the weather clears and sparks fly. Once the weather clears, they get to the lodge where Jed’s brother is, sparks fly even more. But with very different personalities and lifestyles, this could never be more than a fling.

I will be very honest, MM romance is not really my thing. However, there were definitely parts of this novella that I did enjoy. There was so cute, flirty banter that Land wrote very well. I think the Jed and Dakota as characters were written well. For this novella to only be about 100 pages, I felt both characters had depth. We learn a lot about each of them to really understand who they are and what drives them as a person.

This book is mostly lighthearted. There are a few intimate scenes where I would have preferred closed door – but that’s personal preference. I’m not saying they were written bad, but the MM explicit writing just isn’t for me personally. Please don’t take this preference to read into who I am, I still believe everyone should be able to love who they want, read want they want, be who they want etc..

Whack 'em in the crotch again, Nana Dombruso!

This is a great book! It's a quick read at 99 Kindle app-pages long. Quirky, funny, adorable, raucous, feisty, heartwarming, minimal angst, well-described imagery, well-paced, mild steam--are all adjectives that fit this tale. I highly recommend this Christmas tale!

Jed Jorgensen's Christmas getaway is sliding off track before it even begins. Help arrives in the form of Dakota North (just check his ID), when Jed's SUV slides off the snowy mountain road.

Both men get snowed and iced in while at Dakota's mountain cabin. With no internet or cell phone service, there's not much Jed can do about all the office work he'd planned to do (look out for "Operation Condom Drop") Until it's Jed's brother Jessie to the rescue!

Jessie's husband Kai, their children, and three generations of the Dombruso family means chaos, good times, excitement, and hijinks are guaranteed.

Great visit home!

Ah I forgot how much I missed the First and Forever world, it was like coming back home again after being away too long. Jed and Dakota were adorable together. I loved the way they met and got to know each other so well over the course of a few days. The dialogue was great and felt very real. I adored getting a glimpse at some of the familiar family members again...Dante has always been my favorite and he was a nice addition to this book. I really wished it was a little bit longer though, it felt a tiny bit rushed at the end to get to their HEA and I would gave loved to have had a few more chapters with this great couple!

The Prefect Series

If you have never read a book in this series, stop right now. But the first book and enjoy the ride. You will laugh. You will cry. Saying "Nana" to another fan will have you both falling in the floor laughing. Reading some of Mama's antics while in a public waiting room will cause others to ask what's so funny and you won't be able to explain things like a giant i inflatable penis in the front yard of a mansion. Read the series in order.

This novella was sweet. It was a simple love story with "the family" just in the background . Dakota and Jeb were sexy and adorable. Sweet read that made me smile 😃.

I've not long ago read a story very similar to this, man driving to some location, gets lost, caught in bad weather, goes off the road and gets stuck, is rescued by a gorgeous hunky man who lives in a log cabin. All so similar but I still loved it, this setup pleases me, it's heartwarming and gives off a soft warm squishy feeling. A delightfully cute story of Dakota and Jed and their instant attraction but with totally opposite and clashing lives and outlooks, a funny read, a sweet read, with a splash of angst but a lovely HEA.

Sweet romance.

A sweet seasonal tale, which I really enjoyed. Although this is part of the Firsts and Forever series, I found it refreshing that it wasn't inundated with Nana's shenanigans, which I was beginning to find tiresome. Both MCS are sweethearts, and perfect for one another. It just takes them a little while to sort out how they can be together. Loved catching up with some of the characters from previous books. If you enjoy the series, this is a must read.

Perfect holiday read

What I love about Alexa Land's books is the central core value of family. This book has captured the pure joy of the holiday spirit: Goodwill towards strangers, a family that is rowdy, hilariois, tight knit, and fiercely loyal. Ms Land also writes characters who love hard, fall quickly, and find their HEA. This book is a warm cup of cocoa, a soft blanket, and a lovely story wrapped in a shiny bow.

Better than a Hallmark movie

I absolutely love the world Alexa Land has created and this novella is a great standalone, introduction to the characters from her Firsts and Forever series, or as a visit to some of your favorite characters from previous books. It really put me in the spirit for the holidays. Jed and Dakota are absolute perfection!

Super cute forced proximity Christmas novella. Jed and Dakota’s chemistry is instantaneous and their meeting is cute! I love how Dakota helps Jed see himself differently and figure out what’s most important in his life. The cast of secondary characters is also so entertaining!! Definitely enjoyed this one!

I couldn’t help myself. I normally wait until around the holidays to read the holiday romances, but I allowed myself a short book in the heat of August. This was really cute!!! I enjoyed it a lot.....I haven’t read any of the other stories in this series, but I could guess who some of the books were about. Fun, happy ending, cute...all the positives!

This was quite cute, but a little too pat. I think this was also connected to a larger series, and the bleed over from that world kind of muddied the waters a bit. But I genuinely enjoyed their meet cute and very convincing snowed-in situation. This one might have been better if no one else ever showed up, lol.

I can't tell you how many I've started this week and did not finish! This one has been in my TBR list for awhile, so I decided to read it. And I'm so glad I did! I fell in love with Jed and Dakota right from the start. Omg, they were total opposites but they were perfect together!! Such a feel good book, loved it!!😍

Jed's Story

The time line through me at first, until I realized it's not part of the series but gives you an update on Jed's life. I'm glad he has a good place in Jessie's life and with the rest of the gang. It's almost like an Epilogue's epilogue.
