Originally published as Murder in Maplewood, this highly rated mystery thriller has been re-launched as the first standalone title in the Silent series.

When a mountain tourist is reported missing, Maplewood Sheriff Keegan Flanagan realizes he was the last to see her alive.

Soon enough, a bloated female body floats to the top of one of Maplewood's residential lakes, further implicating mountain locals. Keegan is now suspended from the case, but Bo is desperate to make sense of the mystery before she and Keegan find themselves even more entangled in what is fast becoming the mountain's darkest scandal to date.

But, the deeper they dig, the more connections they have to the missing woman... and the dead body.

Townies and tourists are pitted against each other in this fast-paced mystery thriller. Can Bo and Keegan catch the killer before they're arrested for murder?

3.5 stars rounded up.

The book starts off right before the fourth of July with a recluse fisherman snagging a dead body instead of fish. It skips back to a couple of days before and then catches up to the present and the investigation. There are a lot of possible suspects with various motives, and the guilty party wasn't who I thought it was.

I found the storyline interesting as I couldn't figure out who the murderer was. I like that the chapters switch from Bo and Keegan's points of view. I also liked Bo and Keegan's blossoming relationship. I offered to read an ARC of this for the author, but do prefer her clean romance series with several of these same characters.

If this book was a movie it would be PG-13 for language. There's quite a bit of cursing from one particular character, but it did fit that character's personality. There are no F-bombs which is a definite reason for me to stop reading. There are a couple of scenes of a couple in bed, they're dressed and it's stated that nothing happened. It does fit in with the story and not just thrown in there.

Another great book by S.E. Bromke with mystery and intrigue. Bo returns to Maplewood and decides to get with her high school crush, Keegan and finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation .

A real page-turner! This book was so good that I stayed up past 3 am so that I could finish it. The descriptions of both the characters and their surroundings allowed you to see the story in your mind. There were a number of suspects but with all the twists and turns it was not possible to definitively figure out the murderer until it was revealed.

This was my first book from this author but it won't be my last.

Bo has returned to the sleepy mountain town where she was raised, to help her sister run her bed and breakfast business during the busy summer season. She hates the tourists and how it changes the town, but has to put a smiley face on to help out her sister. As she arrives at work one day, an odd threesome of two young woman and a dorky looking young man are checking in. She questions what the relationship between them is, but ignores her observations. Her sister is having family and friends around for a get together and some who Bo doesn’t know. She is too busy helping to get everything ready to worry about anything else.

After the barbecue, they all traipse down to the local watering hole, with Bo re-connecting with her young crush, now Maplewood Sheriff, Keegan. The husband of one couple seems to be more interested in other women in the bar than his actual wife and a strange and extremely drunk female who staggers in from her car and starts to talk to some of the group. Bo thinks she was one of the guests at the B&B, so Keegan ends up bringing her back with them, leaving her in Bo’s room and end up getting a bit romantic themselves on the back porch! Next morning the woman’s car is still at the bar, but she is no longer in Bo’s room!

A bloated body has been found in the local lake and assumptions are that this woman is the tourist found in the lake. Keegan and Jo believe they were the last to see her and report this to the police. Other guests at the B&B are also soon brought into the mix and believed to be suspects. Keegan is put on leave and is unable to be involved with the official case of the body in the lake. Add to this a missing person case they are notified of and there are lots of questions to be asked. Locals from the mountain town are being held as the main suspects, due to the location of the isolated lake, not exactly on the tourist track.

Bo and Keegan decide they have to try and clear their names and get her sister’s B&B re-opened, before her business is hit too hard by a forced closure. Bo works for the small town paper, mostly writing poof pieces, as well as helping her sister, but sees this as a chance to do a proper investigative piece and move upwards with her career. The town hasn’t had a murder for decades and the sinister secrets being kept in the dark by someone, are harming more than they know. A scandal is looming and it seems to be getting closer to home than they want.

The deeper Bo and Keegan dig, the closer to themselves and those about them, it leads. The missing woman and the body in the lake are linked in some way and Bo will soon find out to her own danger, pushing the investigation to the extreme and has to hope that Keegan will realise what has happened and save her, before she becomes another victim. A clash between townies and tourists, bringing up the tensions brought by huge influxes of people to small towns, is something only those who live somewhere where this happens, will truly understand. A great tale of small town life, odd characters, those fixated on others, some who prefer to cheat at every chance and some romance amongst murder.

Bo, a reporter who also helped at her sister’s Inn was back in Maplewood located in the mountain’s of Arizona. She loved the cool summers, the hiking, fishing, family time but all that was about to be disturbed when a person from the Inn goes missing and a body is floating upside down in a lake. Thanks to a rekindling of a romance Bo Delaney and the town sheriff, Keegan Flanagan face to unravel the mystery.

This is a thrilling mystery filled with twist, turns and surprises. The characters are amazing, well defined and interesting. The narrative gives enough detail to envision the small town and serves to enhance the characters. The complex storylines is filled with suspense, mystery, romance and diligence. I think the strength of the book comes from the characters and the obstacles they go through to solve the mystery and make their mountainside home safe again. The emotional drama leads to a sense of empathy for those involved. It is a great thriller and I enjoyed the writing style of the author. Give it a read.

Being familiar with the Maplewood series, I can say that this one achieved its goal of striking a much different tone than its predecessors. Although romance is a trait in this story, it largely takes a seat in favor of the suspense and mystery at its core.

Some simple things that make it easy for me to enjoy the book are very short chapter lengths (thus easy to read in small increments at a time) and easily identifiable characters, of which there are many. Most importantly, it has all the twists and turns you expect from a mystery story. I honestly thought I had the killer pinned several different times in this story, only to be thwarted a few pages later.

I truly enjoyed reading this story, and hope S.E. Bromke will write more mysteries for me to get hooked on!

This is my first read by the author and I didn’t know what to expect. I love mysteries and thrillers that keep you on your toes. The book had each of these. It was nice to have an ending that surprised you and wrapped everything together. The characters are well developed, likeable and true to life. But there was something missing for me. The story line was good but it dragged in parts and it was a book that I could put down not one that I didn’t want to stop reading. The story line about a small town with a few bodies coming up dead and the sheriffs being removed from the case does get your attention. Keegan and Bo go around sleuthing and find out who is the cause of the missing and dead people. I wasn’t totally thrilled with the book but I will read another one by the author.

Moving back to Maplewood has not been easy for Bo and things are about to get worse when a body is discovered in Hogtown Lake by old timer Logan Zick. Teaming up with Keegan to investigate the mystery gives Bo the chance to develop their relationship but also gets him suspended from the police force. A story of mystery, intrigue, character assassinations and deeply held grudges which, after the first few chapters, grabs you and carries you along to the final showdown. An interesting and enjoyable book and well worth a read.

As Keegan, the town sheriff, is asked to step away from a murder investigation, and Bo, his reporter girlfriend and her family and friends are entangled in it, both will work together to find the serial killer in this fast-paced novel. Silent Mountain will finally give up its secrets when in a highly volatile ending. Good read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

There's a lot of mystery, danger and excitement in this story story. Why are people dissapearing in this tourist town in the mountains of Montana? While trying to solve this mystery, Bo and Keegan slowly begin to renew feelings from the past. There's romance in the air. I loved everything about the this book except some trashy language by an old recluse who wanted to be left alone.
